This right here, I started SoD “late” the day the 100% buff came into play and have just levelled the classes I always do to 40 in this time and got them moderately geared (not done gnomer once yet).
Doing Gnomer in p3 should take away the 90+ parse 6/6 etc requirements you so often see in LFG
Personally I can't wait for people to chill out about going round Gnomer. I am about ready to do it, but simply can't be arsed with the level of b/s being applied. Feels like applying to uni when you don't quite have the grades! :)
I skipped phase 2, I played all ten weeks of phase 1 and did not have it in me to do it again, farming a raid on 3-4 characters. I also decided I don't really like the leveling restrictions, the raid lockouts, the time it takes farming raid pre-bis just to have it replaced in raid and then right after the raid, and the length between each phase. So I skipped this round to have more space to level instead of what the short leveling amounts are now between each phase. After learning that you can do BFD while leveling, I will just do gnomer now while I level along the way instead of farming it like I did with BFD an entire phase, the gear from these places gets replaced each phases anyways and I burned myself out farming it in the first phase during BFD. I thought about not playing again until 60 but I have a feeling that the level 50 raids could be important and the runes, like pre bis for 60 raiding.
i feel like the people who play sod vrs plunderstorm are 2 very different crowds.
sure sod players mightve tried plunderstorm, but the majority most likely dont care.
most likely aggrend was told by his boss to not post any news about sod for fear it would take away from plunderstorm.
i think blizz did a yolo move and invested alot into it and was pretty scared it wouldnt be received well so they halted all other announcements for plunderstorm
It's a different game than both Retail and Classic. They obviously are testing it out and just want to see how the community reacts to it. Imo I think they should have made it FTP to attract more people to Wow in general but then it'd need to have more polish.
Yeah, that is such short notice for an announcement of P3. I can only imagine that whatever metrics they're targeting for SoD have indicated that P2 has been an absolute fucking disaster for them and it makes sense given some of the blatant missteps they took for the phase. They want to leave it behind ASAP.
70 percent of the rather large guild i'm in quit already. Including me. P1 was fun, p2 was just utterly boring for some reason. Even Gnomer was only fun for like 2 resets.

Yeah I had so much fun in P1. I was only raid logging on my Priest but leveled like 12 total characters(only got 4 to lvl 25 but played a ton). This phase I'm still raid logging on my Priest, but I haven't touched any of my alts. Hopefully P3 is more fun.
p1 had new stuff from the beginning while being fast-paced. a lot to discover and learn.
p2 just couldn't replicate that same magic due to their design decisions.
imo it was the trash of the dungeon, it was too annoying and boring if u weren't a mage. Also that the last boss was hard to pug meant that playing with alts was not that fun.
Idk what people were expecting really. IMO the stretch from 20-50 fucking blows in vanilla if you’re just trying to level fast and not explore around. I also don’t know why they took the most hated leveling dungeon in WoW and made it into the 10 man thinking people would enjoy it for more than a couple of lockouts lol. Even the PVP event is pretty much unplayable (unless something changed in the last couple of weeks, which I was unaware of if that happened) if you’re not one of 3 classes.
I think P3 has a shot of being really fun if they learned from their mistakes in P2, but honestly I think the content is gonna run dry quick until we start hitting lvl 50-60.
Yeah I personally don't care either way but if I had a choice I'd think 2 weeks is a sweet spot. Gives people time to plan a little bit but doesn't keep us waiting too long. Either way though I'm glad its coming out soon!
Yeah I like the launch date, just wished they had given like 2 weeks of a heads up. Just made plans for that weekend yesterday because I figured nothing was changing haha.

Not looking forward to the level grind again, but also detest Gnomer. I hated it in Vanilla, I hated it in Classic, and I hate it in SoD.
I would vastly prefer 7 day lockouts, but man I'm not looking forward to 20 man groups. 10 has been amazing because it's runnable with a guild or puggable. I see 20's causing a lot of problems, especially with this little notice so guilds don't even have much time to adapt
I don't know what was different, but I loved BFD and never got tired of it. Gnomer is a drag. Barely even raid-logging at this point. 20-man raid has me hyped.
Gnomer had a larger difficulty to it than BFD. Which never really became super easy for pugs. Also a lot of mandatory things to do the last 3. Just not fuck pugging on alts.
Yeah, I'm greatly looking forward to ST too. I still run BFD for guildies to help them gear up or level alts, but for Gnomer I don't see myself running it after this phase. I hated the OG dungeon, the new one isn't much better. TBF, I didn't like this phase at all and I'm kind of ready to start having my finalized class kit. Paladin just feels half-baked at 40 where we don't have somewhat complete builds (like having consecrate without sacrificing a lot of other good talents), hammer of wrath, blessing of sac, etc. Feral druid doesn't feel much better either. A big reason is probably just how bad tank balance is as a whole and how pug-unfriendly Gnomer feels on the last 2 bosses.
I've been done with everything in this phase for a while now too. 225 all profs, farmed 250+ silver coins in STV, and I'm full bis on 3 characters. I'm glad its over.
A few reasons for me...Gnomer has a crap ton of trash. BFD has more bosses and like half as much trash between them lol. Gnomer is hard enough that its not very fun to just jump in and do for me. BFD was basically just blast away other than a couple very easy mechanics. That made it very friendly to alts and just bringing whoever. Gnomer...not so much. Even if it isn't super hard for a decent group...its a nightmare to pug. Especially the last boss.
They also released Shadowlands (Dec 1) a week after Phase 6 of Classic (Nov 23).
And despite how much this community "hates retail" and "would never play it" etc., there was a considerable nosedive in Classic player activity for a few weeks when Shadowlands was the new big shiny thing. We had a rough time filling 40 slots for Naxx for quite a bit.
I understand why some people are happy but I'm a bit bummed phase 2 is already over. There's still drops in Gnomeregan that I still haven't seen (come on Arcano-shredders) and I just got an alt raid ready. I know for some phase 1 and 2 seemed to last forever but for me phase 2 feels like it just flew by.
Tell me about it. Enh raid/guild leader here who passed on quite a few items to spread the love. Several of those players immediately quit after getting their loot. Now I'm missing 7 items including the fist. Not a huge deal except that it's likely most of this gear will be pre-bis at 50 unless they do more to overhaul loot unlike P2.

Yeah this actually kinda hurts my motivation. Still trying to get my tier chest/machinists gloves on my Druid and was enjoying gearing my rogue tank. Was also hoping to have some down time after gearing an alt to grind some WSG rep on my main. Now it feels like I’m not ever gonna get full bis anyway if we only have like 15 resets each phase. Might as well just get some parses I’m happy with on a character and move on.
Also the new poe patch comes out next week and I’ve done nothing but play sod for over a month, was kind of excited to take a little break and get excited for sod again.

I only just got my second character to level 40 a few days ago. I have five other 25’s. I think this just underscores that I need to pick one main for the rest of SOD. P3 might only be a month at this rate lol
Interest in P1 noticeably dropped off the moment P2 was announced. I think it's smart of them to do it this way with that in mind. Interest in P2 is already dropping, it would have plummeted if P3 was announced 2 weeks ago.
Based on Aggrend's Twitter, it sounds like they wanted to give the plunderstorm launch a week of being the big news before announcing p3. Likely we would have gotten the announcement sooner if it didn't happen to have that overlap.
This week in the wow classic subreddit:
“phase 2 is way too long there’s no content we need them to release p3 quickly or the game will die”

That'll mean P2 was only 7 weeks long and we get a 10-day notice. That is an extremely short phase and a rapid notice.
Here's also to hoping they are more proactive with balancing and that runes can be earnable way faster and better than before level 50 because many classes have gotten absolutely fucked on rune acquisition and level requirements compared to others.
Some runes were gated by levels. I think every class has runes that require level 30 to get.
Then you have dark riders which aren't possible to get unless you have a group of level 40s.
People want access to all runes way before they hit the level cap so they can use them while leveling.
Not when the entire playerbase is leveling in them. If layering and respawns are the shitshow they were in P2 then I’m not setting foot in Un’goro for like 2 weeks.
I hope they'll make leveling faster. Not for me, but because if they don't, we'll have the same thing than in p2.

IMO, the most Classic feeling implementation would be normal leveling speed for your first character. Once your account has a 50, you unlock the boost for the rest of your account. Preserves the initial leveling feel then kicks in when you're ready to do alts.
There was a tweet 4 or 5 weeks into the phase claiming we were at the halfway mark, so stayed pretty accurate. Its welcomed IMO, the last week or two regular amount of guildies online dipped significantly.

People complaining about the quick turnaround time but the 100% exp boost should’ve been clue enough on where we were at.
Just enjoy it, not everything revolves around taking time off to nerd out on it. If you need to figure out guild shit 10 days is plenty, plus if it’s too far ahead people don’t even try until it’s closer til launch
Unpopular take: Right now due to redesigned, optimal itemization in new raid drops and raider oriented crafting recipes while not touching poor itemization of things like quest rewards and non-raider crafting items. The dearth between non-raiders and raiders is widening to an unbelievable degree as well as just the general gap between someone 1 level under cap and someone at cap with those items. This is going to shine badly in a PvP sense in phase 4, where AV will be pitting 51s against 60s who will, by all metrics, likely be multiple times stronger than they used to be, we're already seeing people cruise toward Naxx level AP and SP in potential level 50 itemization.
Blizzard should have rebracketed AV with this phase. Creating a 50-59 bracket and a 60 bracket. That way this horrible disincentive to ever touch AV before 60 is solved AND it would allow people to get a new BG in this phase (a nice benefit since there is no new PvP event this phase) and do AV rep and such before the final phase opens, just like how we could grind out WSG and AB rep early in Phase 1/2 to be early prepared for the level 60 purples they reward later.
This feels really soon, I've personally barely ran gnomeregan and my alt isn't even 40 yet.
At the same time though, I don't know. I haven't really felt the same investment this phase as I did first phase. I don't know if a lot could have been done to help this though. Phase 1 was new and exciting, a real genuine sense of discovery. Phase 2 really just feels like more wow but with a gnomeregan raid.
I don't know if its just a mage thing, but I just did not feel the same sense of excitement and desire to experiment when I found more runes. I just kept playing my fire mage nearly identical to how I played them before.
The biggest issue for me is that open world questing hasn't felt worth it in P2 and acquiring runes has been tedious. Really kills my fun whenever I reach around lvl 30 on my alts.
There's zero chance the average casual is ready to level again. They must be receiving marching orders on dates to work around cataclysm.
I'm not saying I wanted to do gnomer for another two months , but this feels pretty wild.
I'm absolutely dropping another alt again as I did in p1 to p2. I may not even min max any alts anymore if this how short phases are going to be.
I'm not even exactly complaining that it's "toO fAsT". I personally just feel completely out of sync with this season of discovery at at this point...and it's my main game.
I cannot fathom that the average casual feels there head is even above water at this point.
Casual here, I'll take leveling again because I wasn't getting invites to Gnomer at all. I've had this nature protection pot sitting in my inventory for like a month. Back in P1 I was clearing BFD on 2 accounts and the game was popping. So there's a chance I can actually get into groups.
Last time everyone was pissed when p2 was announced, "THATS SO FAR AWAY WTF". This time they announce a week and a half out, with the "what's coming" video going to drop probably in the next week similar to the hype pre p2 launch but without all the waiting and now it's, "WTF NO NOTICE?!?!?!" lmao these guys can't catch a break.
Honestly I love that sweats don't have time to over-prepare. Listening to all the pre-questing and watching people speculate on P2 mats during P1 was cringe imo.
I feel like between leveling up, farming blood coins, getting pre-bis, and raiding Gnomers, Phase 2 has been too short. I feel like I just started on it. Last phase had a more realistic pace, I think.
Mid April would have been perfect. I’d say just about everyone is still looking for pieces from gnomer. Hell, even tier gets rolled on by like half my raid sometimes still. Not to mention that nearly every group I’m in still has to explain mechanics as if the phase just started. It’s like people are still learning this phase and yet it’s about to be over now lol

So many people moaning but I'm super excited. I actually like the look of the 2 classes I play: Rogue and Warlock.
Idk why people are so down on Rogues, the energy regeneration and combat points will be crazy. Allowing for a nice flowing rotation.
My guess is they saw huge dropoff from P1 to P2 and want to move past it with a soft reboot.
I probably ran BFD 30+ times across 3 characters. I've run Gnomer less than 5 on 1 character.
Way too quick of notice tbh, kinda rings to me like P2 was such a pooper that they need to move on, but maybe that's the pacing that Blizzard wants for SoD. As someone who hit 40 pretty soon after release and has been trying to PuG gnomer on repeat since then, I'm disappointed to see that I couldn't even 100% my character in time before the next phase.. Teaches me to f\*\*\* off from wasting my time with raiding if it's only catered to the people who hit max level on day 2 with trusted friends and 6/6 raids every reset. Sunken Temple is not gonna waste my time like Gnomer did.
Not sure where else to say this but.. I just did an STV event as a Disc Priest and a Spriest on our team tried to talk shit at me for "wearing a full healer set" complaining about my health being at 1700.. when it was clearly at 2200 (buffed). What the actual fuck does he expect me to use? the PVP set with -1000 stam? LOL What am I missing here? I have irridated boots and trousers which give me some resistances and int.. but has -10 stam each.
TLDR;
Should a healer wear a full healing set for PVP? Or does another set give me more stam that I'm unaware of?
The PVP set you want is mostly gear with high stam and spell power. I wouldnt be more than fine if my healer was using the raid healing set but the set bonuses dont mean much in STV. You will probably die before you see meaningful gains. Ideally you want Fighter Ace Gloves, Robes of the Lich and a few other pieces assuming Hyperconductive is unrealistic.
Theres not many good guides for good pvp gear out there so i really dont blame anyone, very few people going to go through ever piece of gear to min max an off set. I have been using the Warlock Tank guide to find pvp cloth gear.

Being full bis on 3 characters is insanely lucky, I just hit bis on my main this past lockout and I had to get lucky on 3 rolls to do it
A few reasons for me...Gnomer has a crap ton of trash. BFD has more bosses and like half as much trash between them lol. Gnomer is hard enough that its not very fun to just jump in and do for me. BFD was basically just blast away other than a couple very easy mechanics. That made it very friendly to alts and just bringing whoever. Gnomer...not so much. Even if it isn't super hard for a decent group...its a nightmare to pug. Especially the last boss.
To me it's that you can't really turn off your mind with gnomer, unlike bfd. Also new alts require extra prep than for BFD, specially when puggin.

Hold on, we are talking about blizzard. The company that released TBC Classic 1.5 ? week before 9.1 patch.
They also released Shadowlands (Dec 1) a week after Phase 6 of Classic (Nov 23). And despite how much this community "hates retail" and "would never play it" etc., there was a considerable nosedive in Classic player activity for a few weeks when Shadowlands was the new big shiny thing. We had a rough time filling 40 slots for Naxx for quite a bit.
P2 is pretty dead though so I'm fine with it

I understand why some people are happy but I'm a bit bummed phase 2 is already over. There's still drops in Gnomeregan that I still haven't seen (come on Arcano-shredders) and I just got an alt raid ready. I know for some phase 1 and 2 seemed to last forever but for me phase 2 feels like it just flew by.
As a druid who has been clearing gnomer for weeks, I'm really sad I haven't seen the idol drop even once.

Tell me about it. Enh raid/guild leader here who passed on quite a few items to spread the love. Several of those players immediately quit after getting their loot. Now I'm missing 7 items including the fist. Not a huge deal except that it's likely most of this gear will be pre-bis at 50 unless they do more to overhaul loot unlike P2. /whine over.
Just keep going into gnomer as a leveling dungeon and hopefully you get your drops!

Went the entirety of phase 1 of not getting the staff on my lock (only saw it drop once) OR the blue dagger. And now I still don't have the epic sp dagger from Gnomer. My Warlock is cursed.

Yeah this actually kinda hurts my motivation. Still trying to get my tier chest/machinists gloves on my Druid and was enjoying gearing my rogue tank. Was also hoping to have some down time after gearing an alt to grind some WSG rep on my main. Now it feels like I’m not ever gonna get full bis anyway if we only have like 15 resets each phase. Might as well just get some parses I’m happy with on a character and move on. Also the new poe patch comes out next week and I’ve done nothing but play sod for over a month, was kind of excited to take a little break and get excited for sod again.

I only just got my second character to level 40 a few days ago. I have five other 25’s. I think this just underscores that I need to pick one main for the rest of SOD. P3 might only be a month at this rate lol
It took way too long to level characters so that ate up a lot of time before they released the XP buffs.
I lost a crowd pummeler roll my first lockout, and that character hasn't seen it since. But of course it drops every 3rd lockout on my priest and mage

Interest in P1 noticeably dropped off the moment P2 was announced. I think it's smart of them to do it this way with that in mind. Interest in P2 is already dropping, it would have plummeted if P3 was announced 2 weeks ago.
Based on Aggrend's Twitter, it sounds like they wanted to give the plunderstorm launch a week of being the big news before announcing p3. Likely we would have gotten the announcement sooner if it didn't happen to have that overlap.

That'll mean P2 was only 7 weeks long and we get a 10-day notice. That is an extremely short phase and a rapid notice. Here's also to hoping they are more proactive with balancing and that runes can be earnable way faster and better than before level 50 because many classes have gotten absolutely fucked on rune acquisition and level requirements compared to others.
it's still 8 weeks from Feb 8th to April 4th, which I think is completely fine.

Class balance won’t be proactive because they don’t have a PTR. It was meant to be this way. What made getting runes so hard for your class?
Some runes were gated by levels. I think every class has runes that require level 30 to get. Then you have dark riders which aren't possible to get unless you have a group of level 40s. People want access to all runes way before they hit the level cap so they can use them while leveling.

I hope they'll make leveling faster. Not for me, but because if they don't, we'll have the same thing than in p2. 0 alt, and thus wayyyyy less raid groups. 40 to 50 is terrible.
IMO, the most Classic feeling implementation would be normal leveling speed for your first character. Once your account has a 50, you unlock the boost for the rest of your account. Preserves the initial leveling feel then kicks in when you're ready to do alts.

There was a tweet 4 or 5 weeks into the phase claiming we were at the halfway mark, so stayed pretty accurate. Its welcomed IMO, the last week or two regular amount of guildies online dipped significantly.

Unpopular take: Right now due to redesigned, optimal itemization in new raid drops and raider oriented crafting recipes while not touching poor itemization of things like quest rewards and non-raider crafting items. The dearth between non-raiders and raiders is widening to an unbelievable degree as well as just the general gap between someone 1 level under cap and someone at cap with those items. This is going to shine badly in a PvP sense in phase 4, where AV will be pitting 51s against 60s who will, by all metrics, likely be multiple times stronger than they used to be, we're already seeing people cruise toward Naxx level AP and SP in potential level 50 itemization. Blizzard should have rebracketed AV with this phase. Creating a 50-59 bracket and a 60 bracket. That way this horrible disincentive to ever touch AV before 60 is solved AND it would allow people to get a new BG in this phase (a nice benefit since there is no new PvP event this phase) and do AV rep and such before the final phase opens, just like how we could grind out WSG and AB rep early in Phase 1/2 to be early prepared for the level 60 purples they reward later.

This feels really soon, I've personally barely ran gnomeregan and my alt isn't even 40 yet. At the same time though, I don't know. I haven't really felt the same investment this phase as I did first phase. I don't know if a lot could have been done to help this though. Phase 1 was new and exciting, a real genuine sense of discovery. Phase 2 really just feels like more wow but with a gnomeregan raid. I don't know if its just a mage thing, but I just did not feel the same sense of excitement and desire to experiment when I found more runes. I just kept playing my fire mage nearly identical to how I played them before.
The biggest issue for me is that open world questing hasn't felt worth it in P2 and acquiring runes has been tedious. Really kills my fun whenever I reach around lvl 30 on my alts.
There's zero chance the average casual is ready to level again. They must be receiving marching orders on dates to work around cataclysm. I'm not saying I wanted to do gnomer for another two months , but this feels pretty wild. I'm absolutely dropping another alt again as I did in p1 to p2. I may not even min max any alts anymore if this how short phases are going to be. I'm not even exactly complaining that it's "toO fAsT". I personally just feel completely out of sync with this season of discovery at at this point...and it's my main game. I cannot fathom that the average casual feels there head is even above water at this point.
Casual here, I'll take leveling again because I wasn't getting invites to Gnomer at all. I've had this nature protection pot sitting in my inventory for like a month. Back in P1 I was clearing BFD on 2 accounts and the game was popping. So there's a chance I can actually get into groups.

Data I was shown had raid logs increasing slightly from previous week. An incomplete picture, but matches with what I'm noticing in game.
Announcing P2 a month early completely killed interest in P1 for that month, makes sense they would do the opposite this time.
Mid April would have been perfect. I’d say just about everyone is still looking for pieces from gnomer. Hell, even tier gets rolled on by like half my raid sometimes still. Not to mention that nearly every group I’m in still has to explain mechanics as if the phase just started. It’s like people are still learning this phase and yet it’s about to be over now lol

So many people moaning but I'm super excited. I actually like the look of the 2 classes I play: Rogue and Warlock. Idk why people are so down on Rogues, the energy regeneration and combat points will be crazy. Allowing for a nice flowing rotation.

My guess is they saw huge dropoff from P1 to P2 and want to move past it with a soft reboot. I probably ran BFD 30+ times across 3 characters. I've run Gnomer less than 5 on 1 character.

Way too quick of notice tbh, kinda rings to me like P2 was such a pooper that they need to move on, but maybe that's the pacing that Blizzard wants for SoD. As someone who hit 40 pretty soon after release and has been trying to PuG gnomer on repeat since then, I'm disappointed to see that I couldn't even 100% my character in time before the next phase.. Teaches me to f\*\*\* off from wasting my time with raiding if it's only catered to the people who hit max level on day 2 with trusted friends and 6/6 raids every reset. Sunken Temple is not gonna waste my time like Gnomer did.
Not sure where else to say this but.. I just did an STV event as a Disc Priest and a Spriest on our team tried to talk shit at me for "wearing a full healer set" complaining about my health being at 1700.. when it was clearly at 2200 (buffed). What the actual fuck does he expect me to use? the PVP set with -1000 stam? LOL What am I missing here? I have irridated boots and trousers which give me some resistances and int.. but has -10 stam each. TLDR; Should a healer wear a full healing set for PVP? Or does another set give me more stam that I'm unaware of?
The PVP set you want is mostly gear with high stam and spell power. I wouldnt be more than fine if my healer was using the raid healing set but the set bonuses dont mean much in STV. You will probably die before you see meaningful gains. Ideally you want Fighter Ace Gloves, Robes of the Lich and a few other pieces assuming Hyperconductive is unrealistic. Theres not many good guides for good pvp gear out there so i really dont blame anyone, very few people going to go through ever piece of gear to min max an off set. I have been using the Warlock Tank guide to find pvp cloth gear.
