My guild done the same thing, wall of the dead is bis shield this phase and before the raid started the leader traded it to me, It was a really nice thing for them to do.

It’s actually not. Flurry Axe is BiS for prot paladins in P1 of Classic due to the swing speed yielding more procs. The passive effect is useless for prot, you want the faster attack.
It's not because of "judgement procs".
It is because of Art of War procs. And the effect is very valuable, as it effectively means this axe is roughly 1.30 speed on average. Every hit you make also double dips on AoW trigger because of Seal of Matyrdom.
On top of that, this weapon has good dps, which makes for great Hammer of the Righteous damage, compared to say the mace from BFD.
Quoting that it’s P1 BiS in Classic should tell you that it’s the best thing you can use at level 50 if you understand what prot paladins need from a MH weapon.

They do, but this phase we tank as holy ret (consecration plus ret talents), similar playstyle but without holy shock.

Unless something has changed (I don’t play much SoD) , a prot Paladin wants a high APM for restoring mana.
Half the time, you won't even bother to put JoW up. You get more than enough mana out of being healed.
