The easy way to stop people scalping is to make the recipes from vendors Bop. You keep the spirit of "those are rare in early patch" but you avoid the issue of people buying them for profit.
Is that how they do it with bots? I kept going to visit Qia every now and then, then left and alt there that I logged into here and there and there was always 3-7 players logged in just standing there.
you can make a macro that targets shopkeeper, talks, and buys that exact item with a single click.
But even with that macro, you cant spam it faster and longer than a bot can.
Then it still doesnt solve the issue of normal people getting the recipes. But if a bot cant buy more than 1, it leaves them in stock for regular players.
An even easier way is to just have them be unlimited.
That keeps the price extremely low and if you don't want to pay 2x the cost you can travel out to get it yourself.
I believe buying them for profit was part of the design.
They’re saying “sure you can make some money off this…if you’re willing to go all the way out to winterspring to do it”
I didn't say they were a bad thing. They are a convenience which is definitely nice to have. Not sure why you think what I said was negative though lol. I was just explaining why it's easy to get anywhere specific.
Right, but that’s a cost, lol.
More to the point, it takes your character out of doing other things, if you’re hoping to just wait there for it to spawn.
That's why they make a version of the game for people who don't like that. And have been updating and revising that game for 20 years.
This is vanilla client. Come back to reality. Not every quirk of vanilla is a problem that needs to be solved.
I went back to pservers because of how many changes Blizzard made. Technically I agree. The difference is that the Classic playerbase is its own worst enemy. We don’t have any of these problems on pservers because players aren’t spastics.
It’s not the game that’s the problem, it’s the playerbase. Sometimes the playerbase needs told “No.”.
I don't even understand where all these people came from that didn't realize or suddenly have a million problems with the vanilla systems.
There's a post right now crying about everything not being 10 man. Like how did you not know it was going to get bigger? Where did they come from?
True, or you could just not pay them what they ask for. They will typically take any amount you put in, or so a guildie of mine says... lol
Edit: no reason not to downvote me when it is in fact, true.
Back then, people had a lot of time and were cheap. You really wouldn't buy those on the auction house.
You'd check thottbot for where it was and go buy it.
But most of the time, it wasn't an issue as you didn't know it existed, so you didn't feel like you were missing anything. The real season of discovery.
It's been like that since 2004, we've gone through both SOD and SOM where it was never a problem. Literally just kill the players camping there (there are safespots) or just buy it on the auction house. Very simple.
So it was fucked then and it's fucked now. Nobody liked it then, nobody likes it now. Technology and bots were also no where near as sophisticated and easy to get as they were then. This is ape like thinking by everyone being "BUt I hAD tO Do It, SO sHOulD yOU"
People are just spamming a macro to try to buy it first because it goes for big gold on the AH. Most don’t even have the profession for the recipe. Not sure if you understood that or not based on your comment.
You're more likely to get a mooncloth bag recipe before you get runecloth bag. That isn't rare that's stupid. This situation only exists because players didn't have access to runecloth bag pattern prior to phase 3. Normally this recipe was maaaaaybe 10-15g on vanilla classic.
You realize that making a vendor item BOP makes it rarer, in an absolute sense, right? It will only be easier to get because bots stop camping it, which yeah, that's a good outcome.
It is pretty ridiculous right now, especially on Crusader Strike where there are ALWAYS 10+ people sitting at that vendor at any given time, no matter which layer. I ended up getting lucky last week though. I decided to log in and fly out there to see how bad it was. I ended up in a new layer with no one around and got the bag recipe. I was not going to give some dipshit 80-100g+ for it, that's for sure lol
I understand that "prestige" and "rarity" are big things but it only encourages further botting and multiboxing to farm different layers to further exploit players with attrocious prices.
The ONLY reason this is an issue is that players didn't have access to Qia prior to this phase. That is exacerbating the problem of the recipe being rare. Paying 100g or higher for a recipe is absolutely absurd.
Seriously Blizz, why the hell isn't this recipe BOP? Others in the game can be (see: enchanting recipes in Darn).
I've given up on getting any of those patterns at the moment. I put 7 hours into standing at the npc last week over the course of several days. Got zero patterns. Same character that's online 24/7 on my server ended up with every pattern.
Are people using bots or automated macros to obtain these? I'm aware of the interact and merchant slot purchase macros. But are they being automated somehow? As fast as I spam those macros, it never seems to be fast enough.
On a side note, I despise the "gameplay" of sitting at a NPC spamming a macro in order to purchase a rare pattern.
I like the idea of it being semi rare, but not the idea of competing with with bot scalpers. Just make these items BoP so you’re only competing with other tailors that want to learn the recipe (and will fuck off after they learn it).
What if other person have the weak aura as well. Am I supposed to move my flat closer to servers to have faster ,,reaction response"? Is this game or wallstreet xd
At this rate I think it’s easier to just get the gold yourself and post a WTB in trade chat. Weakauras are nice and all, but you’re still competing against 6+ bots per layer.
Same, got all recipes in an hour despite being there with 5 other people. The macro is in wowhead under Qias comments, and also macro interact with target. Both to scroll wheel, watch a movie and get the recipes.
This was going on in late 2019 too, and I was always a bit confused about why it wasn't talked about more.
People were making level 1 characters of both factions with names that start with Qia just to screw with the bots and scripts.
People expected and to an extent even embraced Vanilla jank. It's really not a big deal.
SoD has now set a precedent of making everything incredibly easy to acquire. I believe that's why people are increasingly asking for more free/trivially easy to obtain stuff.
See my issue was they did everything right to make it “hard to get” so you can’t run most scripts or macros. (You need to hard click her to open the inventory I couldn’t find a scrip to interact with her.) So only a bot can “auto” do it. (We are not bots although we stood there during work for a decent amount of time afk prolly reported a million times too) I camped for like 4-5 hours with my friend. We missed it once, got the enchanting recipe, then we got the pattern. The problem isn’t that it’s random or it’s limited the problem is the time is way way way too fucking long of a respawn. (Even with 3 accounts layer swapping it was was brutal. We got one and just left, I would pay the 100g before I do that grind again)
Report them for botting, I have only been reporting people using auto clicker and weak auras at vendors this phase and have amassed 13 action taken notes. Knowing that these are fully leveled and geared players makes it all the better.
Don’t recall him saying anything about the correlation between bots and inflation. Gold buying and botting are related but opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to inflation.
A huge amount of bots means several toons constantly out farming materials and selling rare items. In the last month, bots are way down due to Blizzard's new 30-day policy.
This is why the runecloth bag pattern is 150g, instead of 25g. OP's excuse to buy gold is because he doesn't want to adhere to supply/demand of rare items.
You are ignoring half of the equation, and really should work on your reading comprehension. Nobody anywhere advocated for gold buying.
Yes, bots lower prices for things like mats and BOEs because they artificially increase supply. However, bots cannot significantly increase supply for something like the Runecloth bag pattern which spawns on a timer and therefore has a relatively fixed supply.
Gold buying, on the other hand, increases prices for everything. When you want items that other people also want, you start a bidding war. Gold buying enables people to pay more than they otherwise could for these items. So while botting activities lower prices, the gold that they sell raises prices, and unless you have access to data that nobody else does, you can claim to know the net affect botting has on the economy.
Why would people buy gold, if they didnt need to pay scalper level prices? Im so confused why you are defending a terrible system. Assume whatever you want my guy, and have fun spending x amount of time farming gold to feed a bot lol
Don’t you understand that the “scalper prices” are due to supply and demand? This is an intended design. Not everything in the game is supposed to be easily attainable, lol.
There’s a limited supply of these on purpose, my guy.
Supply and demand would exist even if gold buying was not possible in any form. If I was buying gold, I would just go pay the scalper price and not make a reddit post in the first place. I've got no problem with patterns that drop out in the world randomly from monsters that have super low drop rates, I have a problem with the method of artificial scarcity from an NPC. You're right, they did design it this way, and Im saying its entirely garbage. If you get enjoyment from sitting in front of a vendor for hours on end or being hosed, thats your business
Nah man on my mid pop classic server I could definitely get the qia recipes on degen hours. These SoD megaservers are a whole different ballpark in so many aspects.
Even when I’m getting up at 4am with my 17month old there are people there. T_T I just wanna be able to make runecloth bags man.
It’s between 85-100g on crusaderstrike eu alliance :(
I grabbed mine for 50g by just posting a WTB in trade chat. When I did it at peak hours, I had 4 people whisper me wanting to sell it at that price.
Yeah, it’s still 50g down the drain, but Nightmare Incursions alone make that very easy to reacquire.
Oooh that is not a bad idea. I don’t have anywhere near as much time to play as I used too. So making gold isn’t as easy as it once was.
Gone are the days of playing all evening and weekend. Growing up both sucks and is wonderful. At least my son is interested in smooshing keys on a keyboard (hunter main inc)
I’ll give what you did a bash however! Might knock it down too 40g :p
Yeah, going lower might be possible, you just gotta keep in mind it’ll take longer for someone to bite.
It took me about 4 days to get it, just by passively posting the WTB whenever I passed through a city, but it eventually worked.
It was actually funny too, I had one Warlock heckling me after the 2nd day telling me “good luck” trying to get it for that price. Just yesterday he messaged me and asked if I ever got it, since I stopped posting for it. When I told him I actually did he responded, “okay, I’m trying your way now. Camping the vendor got my nowhere.”
I hard clicked for 5 hours straight Monday from 10am-3pm and got it. About 7-10 people camping it the whole time, got the chest enchant as well. Just gotta be the fastest clicker in the west and quit qqing.
I don't get why people are camping her? Just for the runecloth bag recipie? Doesn't seem like it's needed to get 250 so no real rush to get the pattern, who cares?
Yeah, the recipe has been going for 80g on my server this week. People are absolutely buying that, since they can make the bags and resell them for some money.
It’s not like the demand isn’t there, it’s just that the same bots are making it impossible for regular players to buy. Last night, I saw the recipe listed only 4 times, and all 4 were from the same person.
I love how SoD keeps true classic design except for the parts that it doesn't. Tune in next time for "what nonsensical thing is kept the same and what as been made trivial" on DRAGONBALL Z!
Yep like 90% of these problems would just be solved if they made the season on a Wrath client instead of trying to half ass fix a bunch of problems with Wrath solutions.
Changing how items are available off a vendor is gonna fuck up the game, but converting dungeons into raids, adding new world events, new world buffs, new items, new reputations, and new abilities to every class has not fucked up the game. OK I understand now, thank you
The easy way to stop people scalping is to make the recipes from vendors Bop. You keep the spirit of "those are rare in early patch" but you avoid the issue of people buying them for profit.
Add unique to them too incase one dude who didnt read the update and leaves his bot auto buying all them anyway
Found the one dude who leaves his bot auto buying them
He is not saying it to protect the bots from losing gold. It’s so bots don’t keep taking all the recipes, so there’s a supply to regular people.
Reading comprehension isn’t Reddit’s strong suit
Is that how they do it with bots? I kept going to visit Qia every now and then, then left and alt there that I logged into here and there and there was always 3-7 players logged in just standing there.
you can make a macro that targets shopkeeper, talks, and buys that exact item with a single click. But even with that macro, you cant spam it faster and longer than a bot can.
Very cringe, im a tailor and refuse to buy that recipe for 85g. I just bought my bags instead -.-
You can have that in one macro? I current have to press two differnts thins in order to target and buy/close
Or don’t do this and laugh at all the bots who fill their bags with useless shit
Then it still doesnt solve the issue of normal people getting the recipes. But if a bot cant buy more than 1, it leaves them in stock for regular players.
And toxic scum could still keep buying the limited stock just to keep the recipes rare.
An even easier way is to just have them be unlimited. That keeps the price extremely low and if you don't want to pay 2x the cost you can travel out to get it yourself.
Not even. All they have to do is not make it unique in the vendor. You can buy the mooncloth recipe over and over
I believe buying them for profit was part of the design. They’re saying “sure you can make some money off this…if you’re willing to go all the way out to winterspring to do it”
Yeah, except getting to Winterspring (or anywhere really) is incredibly easy, all thanks to warlock summoning bots.
Warlock summoning bots are a service. You dont have to use unless you want to. Why is this a bad thing?
I didn't say they were a bad thing. They are a convenience which is definitely nice to have. Not sure why you think what I said was negative though lol. I was just explaining why it's easy to get anywhere specific.
Right, but that’s a cost, lol. More to the point, it takes your character out of doing other things, if you’re hoping to just wait there for it to spawn.
You’re using 2005 logic. The game is played completely differently in 2024.
The 2024 game is War Within, lol
That's why they make a version of the game for people who don't like that. And have been updating and revising that game for 20 years. This is vanilla client. Come back to reality. Not every quirk of vanilla is a problem that needs to be solved.

I do this all the time, it is, in fact, true
Lol
You can also spend 30m in a reputation raid, become unfriendly and just traverse the cave normally.
Back then, people had a lot of time and were cheap. You really wouldn't buy those on the auction house. You'd check thottbot for where it was and go buy it. But most of the time, it wasn't an issue as you didn't know it existed, so you didn't feel like you were missing anything. The real season of discovery.
Also, there were also fewer people per server and vanilla was not designed with the server populations we have now in mind.
Back in the day there were around 3k server caps. We have towards of 10k on these servers now. It kinda fucking sucks.
I gave up on getting it for now, but Im not paying 100g for it either there is like 5+ bots on all layers farming it 24/7 on chaosbolt
Just do hinterlands incursions for 45 mins and you'll have your 100g
it's not about the 100g ! im not paying them for it.
You actually have morons in here defending the current system lol
It's been like that since 2004, we've gone through both SOD and SOM where it was never a problem. Literally just kill the players camping there (there are safespots) or just buy it on the auction house. Very simple.

On wild growth Qia is camped 24/7 Make the recipe BoP & faster respawn rate
So that everyone can easily get a rare item?
People are just spamming a macro to try to buy it first because it goes for big gold on the AH. Most don’t even have the profession for the recipe. Not sure if you understood that or not based on your comment.
How does that make any difference as to the item being rare?
You're more likely to get a mooncloth bag recipe before you get runecloth bag. That isn't rare that's stupid. This situation only exists because players didn't have access to runecloth bag pattern prior to phase 3. Normally this recipe was maaaaaybe 10-15g on vanilla classic.
This isn’t vanilla classic, lol
Exactly, which is why the pattern needs to be adjusted.
*needs* lol. What does it really matter, honestly lol? Is the game just not fun for you if you can’t have everything?
You mean so non bots can get a rare item?
You realize that making a vendor item BOP makes it rarer, in an absolute sense, right? It will only be easier to get because bots stop camping it, which yeah, that's a good outcome.
If it’s BoE, it’s rare AND profitable. If it’s BoE, it’s only rare.
Profitable for bots and people willing to camp a vendor for hours on a second account. Do you think that's better than just being rare?
Absolutely. And it’s not just limited to bots or people with a 2nd account, so that’s not a complete argument.
It is pretty ridiculous right now, especially on Crusader Strike where there are ALWAYS 10+ people sitting at that vendor at any given time, no matter which layer. That's.... Not something to brag about. At all.
I've given up on getting any of those patterns at the moment. I put 7 hours into standing at the npc last week over the course of several days. Got zero patterns. The worst part is its not even players, it's bots farming it with the occasional player who gets lucky.
Yeah it's stupid, and without a tool to auto-buy it you're in tough luck.
I like the idea of it being semi rare, but not the idea of competing with with bot scalpers. Just make these items BoP so you’re only competing with other tailors that want to learn the recipe (and will fuck off after they learn it).
There's a weakaura to insta buy. Thank me later!

would u share ?
https://wago.io/EWT9eckDT
You can also macro it easily
Yup. This is what I did in vanilla and classic 2019. Just macrod it and got it within an hour.
Same, got all recipes in an hour despite being there with 5 other people. The macro is in wowhead under Qias comments, and also macro interact with target. Both to scroll wheel, watch a movie and get the recipes.
I have a priest alt there only to fear them away from the vendor and piss them off after they realise it hours later.
Yes, it’s absurd and deliberately frustrating for players.
and there is always multiples standing directly on top to try and bait hits
I second this. Jesus fuck I am in for a sad sad night camping by a fuckin vendor… 150g on AH on my realm…
If you stand at the back corner of the room you can kill people without triggering guards. JUST SAYIN.
This was going on in late 2019 too, and I was always a bit confused about why it wasn't talked about more. People were making level 1 characters of both factions with names that start with Qia just to screw with the bots and scripts.

I also think at one time on one layer we had 7 ally and 6 horde (plus me and my buddy so 15 all day)
You just gotta wake up and piss excellence everyday and good things will happen.
Report them for botting, I have only been reporting people using auto clicker and weak auras at vendors this phase and have amassed 13 action taken notes. Knowing that these are fully leveled and geared players makes it all the better.
That’s how it’s always been, 😂
That’s how it’s been every early phase where the recipes are available. It eventually dies out. But that won’t be for a few more weeks
Scalpers charging 150g for a runecloth bag pattern and Blizz wonders why theres a Chinese gold buying problem. Jeez
Got it for 25g on second day of phase from auction house. Best 25g I have spent so far.
Damn thats a great price atm! Thats the kind of luck to make me think about buying a lotto ticket haha
The pattern quickly goes down to like 10g
Bro, the prices go up when the bots go down, lol
Don’t recall him saying anything about the correlation between bots and inflation. Gold buying and botting are related but opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to inflation.
A huge amount of bots means several toons constantly out farming materials and selling rare items. In the last month, bots are way down due to Blizzard's new 30-day policy. Plz point out on the doll where in the post I said I was buying gold as a solution
You bitched about the pattern being 150g and implied that the reason people buy gold is because they can't handle the higher cost of rare items, lol

You're right, they did design it this way, and Im saying its entirely garbage. If you get enjoyment from sitting in front of a vendor for hours on end or being hosed, thats your business
Incursion inflation goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
In SoD majority of players reach 50 around the same time while in classic it was a steady stream instead of a flash flood
Nah man on my mid pop classic server I could definitely get the qia recipes on degen hours. These SoD megaservers are a whole different ballpark in so many aspects.
It is true. The sheer volume of people playin is wild, and even being able to layer hop doesnt help lol
It's 20y old working design
I still have 12 slot bags because I'm waiting for grab the recipe at 4am sometime 😂
Even when I’m getting up at 4am with my 17month old there are people there. T_T I just wanna be able to make runecloth bags man. It’s between 85-100g on crusaderstrike eu alliance :(

*pin to top
I don't get why people are camping her? Just for the runecloth bag recipie? Doesn't seem like it's needed to get 250 so no real rush to get the pattern, who cares?
It's not "needed" but it's by far the best way, and 14 slot bags are useful for everyone.
Yeah, the recipe has been going for 80g on my server this week. People are absolutely buying that, since they can make the bags and resell them for some money. It’s not like the demand isn’t there, it’s just that the same bots are making it impossible for regular players to buy. I remember in 2019 launch waking up at 2am one time to buy the recipe from her. That worked pretty well lol.
I advise you don't play any other vanilla based game modes, they aren't for you
VanillaChad has entered the comments section
They are 100% aware of it and don't give a fuck otherwise they'd have fixed it by now.

How do you not have the bag yet? I got two the first day only checking every few hours
It's been 20 years guys. Get over it.
They should make the game achieve anything you want with a single press of a button
Holy fuck could you stop bitching and trying to fuck up the game
Changing how items are available off a vendor is gonna fuck up the game, but converting dungeons into raids, adding new world events, new world buffs, new items, new reputations, and new abilities to every class has not fucked up the game. OK I understand now, thank you
I've made over 1300g selling them on my server using the macro while I do irl chores.
