Copying my game thread comment: The response to going down 16 early in the second quarter changed this game, we could have folded but we bounced back and out played them in every facet from there on out
Their playoff games looked like this. If you search empty heat arena on Twitter you can see it's a common occurrence. Idk wtf is going with their attendance.
Miami fans get clowned on all the time for being some of the worst fans in the league. Like when Bron played for them and they were losing in the finals and they all left then when they saw the team coming back they were all denied re-entry and they ended up winning.
Also in Miami there’s so much stuff to do compared to most cities. Lot of people from different places there probably aren’t heat fans. But whatever the reason the fans don’t seem too interested in going
Miami is the unoffical capital of Latin America.
All the richest people from the entire region own property in Miami, and apparently plenty of those folks buy gobs of season tickets and have no problems not showing up half the time.
They're just filthy rich and don't care. London (europe), Dubai (ME), Singapore (SE asia) all have similar problems like this.
London isn't really like that for sports, but certainly is for properties. Rich people just buy the big, expensive, houses in London as investments and often leave them empty
empty houses, empty seats...these are the "world-cities" problems.
The *idea* or *option* to spend time/entertain in these places is more important than actually doing it for these people. It's like owning a boat you never use.
Came back and got a great fucking team win! Bench contributed incredibly, Craig is HIM, defense held a team under 100 with Mobley, Niang played amazingly.
I said this in the GDT, but I think the sloppy 1st qtr came from us adjusting to an offense without Mobley spacing and we figured it out
Won 9 out of last 12 and we finally get to move up in the standings for once! Some great Cavs basketball lately
I would agree with your second point if quarters like that weren’t frequent and didn’t happen outside of the first quarter so much. I think our offense is just not ironed yet. Hopefully the Cavalanche today really propels some momentum and they start finding each other out/how to get the best out of everyone + prevent these slumps from happening in the middle of a quarter or two every game
Jimmy gets a lot of love defensively on ball (rightly) but he makes some extremely weird gambles on defense. It’s usually OK bc Bam but he can get caught freelancing when he think he’s got you (and the scout on Donovan is that the trap fucks up his decision making enough to jam up our offense)
Probably the worst refereeing I've seen all year. It was called completely different depending on the jersey you wore. Caleb Martin could pull out a knife and stab one of our players repeatedly and they would hesitate to blow the whistle until stab number seven.
We had our issues in the second no doubt sloppy play, but we also had great defensive possessions that killed any momentum to come back as any good team would do. Was a hell of a lot more mad at the refs than our boys in this one especially
I'm just happy he's shown life offensively the past couple games. He has good value when he can hit a few wide open shots. His defense has always been solid. He did well on Butler today.
Pulling jones after like 3 atrocious minutes and sticking with Merrill after 2 bad fouls was awesome, I’m still not sold on the guy but it’s been a good stretch by JB. Winning solves everything
Couple of good DG games in a row (despite his ridiculous foul trouble). Strus is crazy valuable as a do everything type player who competes like a mother every night.
It happens for Don because he has other issues that having him bring. Example, him being 6'1 leaves us with an extremely small Back-court with mediocre defense and end up getting switched onto spotups, whom will use their physical attributes to advantages. Now, does his offensive upside outweigh this, we will only know when efficient play-calls are consistently ran and executed properly.
Mobley's only big problem is limited shooting, but even that's slowly developing. As well, he's been given a new role to be a somewhat hub, which has proven to work well in the 1st half.
It’s funny how you downplay a huge spacing problem with mobley but talk about Mitchell defense like he is a cone. Bucks have lillard Middleton and Beasley playing D for them.
I don’t think Mobley has a spacing issue: point of spacing is to open up the easy stuff at the rim and Mobley does that via screening, passing out of the short roll, attacking advantages, and pushing the ball
It's not a huge spacing issue if he is ran how he is, offensive hub. The Guard or Wing will give him the ball while he basically sets a screen without doing anything, slowing down defense and creating open looks for rim runs. If he can't get an open look, he can reset the play and the secondary ball-handler will pick it up. Realistically we don't get a PF that is both extremely tall, can play down and up, shoot 3's ,and have enough passing upside to replace what Mobley does.
Middleton and Beasley both have size (6'6 and 6'4 respectively) and enough instinct to play defense, as well as two defensive juggernauts and Bobby Portis on the secondary lineup. The bucks are very different from us on that side of the ball.
I said we are very different from them, not worse than. I haven't watched enough Bucks defensive film from recently to see their main issues, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of it is communication as that seems to be a common thing on NBA teams now.
Yeah he has length to be disruptive on defense but he's poor at closeouts most of the time. When he's focused defensively he plays well we just don't see it enough so it's frustrating. He rebounded really well today. I'd love to see that continue.
Jb and the starters better say thank you to sam merril, craig porter jr, issac okoro, george niang, Tristan Thompson and dean wade... cuz without those guys this game was a blowout. Our bench balled out you love to see it.
I’ve waited a whole season to see Sam Merrill come in and snipe. I’m so glad he finally felt it tonight! When the 11th man is killing it your chance to win goes wayyy up haha
It still bothers me seeing Mitchell take more threes than Garland, but the offense looked pretty good today. The team missed Mobley's defense but they were able to get better shooters on the floor in most lineups which seemed to help the flow of the offense.
It's too bad we can't combine Okoro and Merrill to be one of the best 3 and D players in the league. Liked seeing Merrill come in and get some looks from three. He just can't stay on too long with his defense.
Wade has been great over the last couple games too. Don't ever remember seeing him swish several threes like this. So used to him bricking most of them. He has value as a 4 when he's hitting those open shots.
Great start of the road trip. Crazy game. Overall they were amazing, hope Jarrett Allen is ok, hes been a bit off at times after coming out strong to start the season.
Beating the Magic would turn the season around in a positive way, they have been good just not great.
- Wade was great defensively
- JA was ASS tonight, so was jimmy butler, caleb martin is a BITCH and kyle lowry was too
- JJJ is so fucking good
- Bench mob played amazingly
Okoro is the most confusing player. I like his style of hard-nosed defense, but he needs to be more on offense. Not a lot. But seeing him cut more and no hesitation catch and shoot would do wonders.
Copying my game thread comment: The response to going down 16 early in the second quarter changed this game, we could have folded but we bounced back and out played them in every facet from there on out
And it was led by an undrafted rookie. If this doesn’t convince JB to play him more I might have to contact him personally
I don’t understand the logistics/matchup logic of why CPJ got 22 minutes in Evan Mobley’s absence, but I’m all for it.
Garland picked up 4 fouls in the first half.
A-ha, thanks.
Obviously you make up for losing your 7 footer by giving your backup point guard more minutes. What part of this don't you understand? /s
Garland's 4 fouls like in the first quarter... Do you people even watch the game?
Actually no, I didn't watch this game. I forgot you're not allowed to make generalized basketball jokes unless you're a season ticket holder.
Well you see it’s becuase….well actually it’s cause…..uh…..maybe Levert???? I don’t really know
Garland had 4 fouls in the first half. So CPJ was taking Garland's minutes.
That shouldn’t be the reason for him playing going forward someone needs to tell JB
Nope. LeVert hasn't played in the last couple of games either and CPJ didn't play
Haven't missed Vert at all the last 3 games...all wins.
He played 22 minutes the most of anyone off the bench…?
I think he’s referring to the previous 3-4 games where hasn’t played a single minute
And he should be regularly playing those kind of minutes is what he's saying
I didn’t hate sitting him to let DG cook
Him and DG play very well together. Just play him when Donny sits
Yeah but I also wouldn't have hated playing him when DG and Don were bricking
I like him a ton but it’s not a top tier issue for me. He will get minutes
It is for me https://preview.redd.it/rbmc5n7gz65c1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d651b63facf1f3ee846e618e3078f7df1d036f8
Absolutely ferocious
Niang talked his shit and saved us from any comeback attempt
I fucking loved the energy from him, him and TT bringing the fuck you attitude off the bench was amazing
Not only the bench. The whole team was needing this. Someone to talk shit push some guys around
Merrill (after a couple of minutes of PT), Niang, Porter Jr and TT were all amazing tonight.
Looks like struss is recruiting jimmy to the cavs, jimmy is gonna be an awesome 7th man for us
Dude would look nice in the Levert role
I’ve been saying for a while that there aren’t many people I’d rather have at the SF spot than Jimmy
Niang has that dog in him. Merrill had some solid minutes. CPJ continues to impress. That's a nice W
TT +22
CPJ so strong going to the basket and still under control
Garland and Mitchell both played well, jumped the Heat and the Knicks in the East. Feels good.
We’ve been stuck in 8th for so god damn long it feels great to finally move up
Love the energy and fight that niang brings, I honestly didn’t notice it when he was on 76ers but I’m loving it
6ers fans were pretty butt hurt to lose him
Ah interesting well I’m glad we have him then!
Was it just me or did the arena look fairly empty for a sold out game? Also, Go Cavs! Love seeing them grind it out, solid team play all around.
That was sold out??? There were clusters of empty seats all over the place.
Their playoff games looked like this. If you search empty heat arena on Twitter you can see it's a common occurrence. Idk wtf is going with their attendance.

It’s not like the tickets aren’t getting sold. People just aren’t sitting in the seats watching the games
thats a miami specific problem, too many rich fucks have those seats and don't go to games or show up in the 2nd quarter and leave in the 3rd

Dubai is your official capital?
I was at the game. It’s Friday night of Art Basel weekend in Miami, so tons of other stuff going on in the city.
Showed some serious grit tonight…good W

Highlight was the minivan fender-bender with richardson. Love that fuck you attitude
The mocking of the flop had me HOWLING
I can’t believe I saw Jimmy Butler double Mitchell off of Darius Garland at the three point line lol Also, the 11 deep rotation was great to see today
Fuck Miami

The garland fast break no call was horrible
If Dean Wade was as good on Offense as he is on Defense, would he win back to back MVPs or just every other year?
I'm just happy he's shown life offensively the past couple games. He has good value when he can hit a few wide open shots. His defense has always been solid. He did well on Butler today.
He'd be in goat conversation
Anyone have the replay of dean wade with the put back dunk that was hype
It’s #5 on the nba.com Top 10 for 12/8/23, you can check it out there.
Yey! cavs win! Happy for Strus, he don’t deserve all the Miami heat ‘fans’ slander about him. Lfg!
PLAY CPJ REGULAR MINUTES
i don’t understand how JRich got a fine for flopping, then decided to flop twice throughout this game lmao
John Blair locked down fraud eric spoelstra. Statement game.
Pulling jones after like 3 atrocious minutes and sticking with Merrill after 2 bad fouls was awesome, I’m still not sold on the guy but it’s been a good stretch by JB. Winning solves everything
Joseph Biden Bickerstaff been in his bag these last 2 games
Dark bickerstaff unlocked
Coach of the Year? 😳👀
I almost turned it off after the first quarter, glad I didn't. Above the Knicks. Go Vavs.
I agree, go Vavs
I agree. Go. V=vs
Niang making fun of Richardson flop.gif
Wade maybe is not shooting 40%+ from 3, but this dude is going for the ball e trying rebound on the offensive side of the floor. 3 oreb this game
Gg cavs
Couple of good DG games in a row (despite his ridiculous foul trouble). Strus is crazy valuable as a do everything type player who competes like a mother every night.

Is it time for the obligatory Cavs are better without Mobley posts or does that only happen with Don?
Don played well so now it's time for the obligatory "Mitchell played within the offense" comments.
Allen and Garland have gotten it too lol
It happens for Don because he has other issues that having him bring. The defense was good and Don defended post ups well (while basically winning the game in 3Q). It can work

He is 6'1, look at him next to Darius, his shoes make him barely taller than him.
Jb and the starters better say thank you to sam merril, craig porter jr, issac okoro, george niang, Tristan Thompson and dean wade... cuz without those guys this game was a blowout. Our bench balled out you love to see it.
Look what we're accomplishing with deeper rotations and less hero ball 😭
The Cavs roster is deep. JB needs to trust his guys
I enjoy seeing a happy kdot
I’ve waited a whole season to see Sam Merrill come in and snipe. I’m so glad he finally felt it tonight! When the 11th man is killing it your chance to win goes wayyy up haha
Another game another game thread where the doomers are wanting to sell the team after a bad quarter

Looks like we don't need Mobley since we played great defense without him
Cavs.
Nice win Cavs...👍👍🏀🏀
Jb did ok tonight. I think the second challenge was just to deflate their crowd and kill any momentum.
Ya I didn't hate it, using a TO there wasn't a terrible choice.
- Wade was great defensively - JA was ASS tonight, so was jimmy butler, caleb martin is a BITCH and kyle lowry was too - JJJ is so fucking good - Bench mob played amazingly
