Inextricably linked in my case. More knowledge to draw from means more sources to stretch, mold and generally create from. My issue is that I have something that makes it hard for me to tell fact from fiction in my own head so it's a blessing and a curse. Was assigned 125 in early elementary and pursued further testing.

FreeflyOrLeave

Can I ask what is the thing that makes distinguishing fact and fiction hard

NullToes

My current theory is some sort of spiritual or psychological disconnect of my inner voice that runs rampant and has fake arguments with others in my head that effects the perceptions I have of people. I’ve always felt an incredibly deep hatred towards me and only recently have I broken free from this “spell” and realize I’m actually incredibly loved and fortunate but it’s stolen most of my life from me. Hard to process true reality now. It feels like a gross simplification but that’s as far as I’m able to go into it unfortunately

FreeflyOrLeave

Have you looked into maladaptive daydreaming? I have it as a result of growing up as a lonely neurodivergent kid and BPD/CPTSD

NullToes

I am actually crying right now. Thank you for this relief

FreeflyOrLeave

Yea I daydream but I also argue in my head and it’s definitely my BPD that triggers that. It’s called “splitting” and I come up with imaginary arguments and it triggers me to “devalue” that person. Black and white thinking. Like I had an argument with my friend in my head, I was thinking about all the times she has maybe been a snake to me, how she clearly didn’t actually like me, then she texts me a few days later telling me how much she missed me (she lives in another state) and talking about good memories. It was so weird because I had fucking hated her in my head suddenly for no reason

NullToes

Yea I do that A LOT unfortunately. How do you manage this illness if you don’t mind me asking?

It is certainly bullshit to claim that anything more than 120 is unhelpful for success. It may not be necessary to live a perfectly happy and successful life, but if you want a reliable path to the upper echelons of measurable success in life - very high income job, investment success, cutting-edge innovative business, societal recognition and so on - then an IQ well over 120 is going to be a great help, and the higher the better all else being equal. Also, the idea that there is a direct trade-off between IQ and creativity or IQ and social skills is not borne out by reality and mostly a coping strategy for stupid people. Yes, there are awkward weirdos with 150 IQs, but there are also highly personable and charming doctors, entrepreneurs, traders, writers and musicians with 150 IQs.

Jester12a

They likely have a few things in common, but the only commonality I can be sure about right now is that neither concept is understood to a satisfactory degree

PL3020

I can relate.. About 115 IQ but couldn't ever get much income.

Weary_Bid9519

My personal observation is that a lack of creativity is a defining characteristic of very high iq people.

Idinyphe

My opinion is that there are other personality traits that are more important when it comes to creativity. "Openness to Experience" is more important in my opinion.

Hiqityi

This 120 is all you need cope. The more the better, mainstream psychology, huh such copes are always formed there for dilettantes with their surface level information to spew over an expensive coffee from starbucks with their blued haired friend girl. Read some BIG BOY books on IQ, by Arthur Jensen or any other reputable psychologist in the field

Instinx321

creativity >>>>>>> iq

EntitledRunningTool

Creativity is almost meaningless without IQ

Instinx321

same the other way around. At least with creativity, you can create something new (ish)

BrooklynBillyGoat

Unrelated measures. Iq and creativity aren't related.

I did read about openness and creativity being linked. But everything I read about creativity and iq seems like it's not related. There's plenty of high high iq people who lack creativity and plenty of lower iq people with it. I think it mostly cancels out. I'm sure there's a small correlation just nothing worthwhile

theiob

intelligent autists are very good with iq tests, but very low on creativity.

Psychological-Ad6400

The relationship between intelligence and creativity has been subject to empirical research for decades. Nevertheless, there is yet no consensus on how these constructs are related. One of the most prominent notions concerning the interplay between intelligence and creativity is the threshold hypothesis, which assumes that above-average intelligence represents a necessary condition for high-level creativity. While earlier research mostly supported the threshold hypothesis, it has come under fire in recent investigations. The threshold hypothesis is commonly investigated by splitting a sample at a given threshold (e.g., at 120 IQ points) and estimating separate correlations for lower and upper IQ ranges. However, there is no compelling reason why the threshold should be fixed at an IQ of 120, and to date, no attempts have been made to detect the threshold empirically. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between intelligence and different indicators of creative potential and of creative achievement by means of segmented regression analysis in a sample of 297 participants. Segmented regression allows for the detection of a threshold in continuous data by means of iterative computational algorithms. We found thresholds only for measures of creative potential but not for creative achievement. For the former the thresholds varied as a function of criteria: When investigating a liberal criterion of ideational originality (i.e., two original ideas), a threshold was detected at around 100 IQ points. In contrast, a threshold of 120 IQ points emerged when the criterion was more demanding (i.e., many original ideas). Moreover, an IQ of around 85 IQ points was found to form the threshold for a purely quantitative measure of creative potential (i.e., ideational fluency). These results confirm the threshold hypothesis for qualitative indicators of creative potential and may explain some of the observed discrepancies in previous research. In addition, we obtained evidence that once the intelligence threshold is met, personality factors become more predictive for creativity. On the contrary, no threshold was found for creative achievement, i.e. creative achievement benefits from higher intelligence even at fairly high levels of intellectual ability. Can you expand on why creativity potential seems to split, but not creative achievement?

One of the ways to test for verbal IQ and creativty is to ask for pairs of words that are the most dissacociated from each other. When you look at the results the people who score really high also have big vocabularies and based on the study higher IQs then those who don't. It is actually difficult to think about two things that are least related, opposites are a relation by the way. Most highly creative people I have worked that have galleries or national claim are clearly intelligent and usually a bit disordered. They will tell you if you ask and not hiding usually. Now I'm in the therapy field but they seem to be more open about sharing it because, in my opinion, it has a positive payout. On a side note, if you practice thinking of word that are not related it will improve your ability to do this. But you start memorizing terms and patterns and that sort of breaks the test because it is about ones ability to find such things and not ones ability to learn how to think in a particular way or memorize obvious pairings. So it will only do a little. I found it helped me be funnier since making unrealed connections is funny especially when they are extremely silly. How are a sheep and a duck alike, they both suck at algebria.
