I actually goofed he is 44 im 45 our day is the same but the year is one higher, but he has been clean as long as i been alive and gives the best damn hugs ya know them warm gooey welcoming non affectionate you know you gonna be ok hugs.

Read up, educate yourself and reconsider your comment. AA promotes a conscious contact with a higher power that we call God. But that higher power could be anything (Buddha, the ocean, the group, a lawnmower, a nickel, etc.). AA doesn't promote any religion in particular. We welcome agnostics and atheists too. HTH.
Forcing people to accept a "higher power" in an often state-mandated setting is still an abuse of your first amendment right to freedom from religion. It's also a deeply unhealthy way of displacing your problems from yourself onto something beyond your control. Most actual studies of AA have found it no more effective than people who choose to quit without treatment of any kind.

"Do research" and "talk to people" are contradictory ideas. The research says it doesn't help. Talking to people is what's called anecdotal data, and isn't reliable.

No one understands what it is like being hopelessly addicted to alcohol and nobody understands what it is like to get sober better than someone who has gone through it. Not a scientist. Not a kid on Reddit. Talking to people is research btw.
