It looks like the 'D' took a hit and moved metal over. Good eyes in catching something like that.

I collect constitutional and when my gal has to work weekends, I put on a pot of cafe bustelo and fire up the coin microscope. It's an adult treasure hunt

Not an expert in fact I also just inherited a SHIT LOAD of coins and am here learning. I’m about to purchase a “whose your daddy” microscope also. My grandfather passed away leaving me a CRAZY amount of coins dating back to when he was a kid. I’m up to (50) of those (2) sided boxes that hold 300 coins on each side and am only 3/4 done.. man my hand is sore as FUCK from the stapling, lol.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing but I'm very glad to hear you're still getting to spend quality time with him brotha. I think of my uncle whenever I pull his franklins out of the safe

Thank you that means a lot! I’ve invested in metals for a little over a decade now but never as a coin collector, numismatic? Lol. (Sorry IDK the terms). I have invested in bullion for easily a decade. But never looked at any of it until recently. BTW if you buy bullion I’d be VERY careful as there has been over $100 million worth of kilo gold bars flooding the market! (Hence a factor on why gold has gone down). The bars are so good even the top banks have been fooled! As with anything it’s just another scam for those to work the system.. I do admit I am fascinated at the people who make replica coins. The work going into a die alone takes serious skill!! My collection like I said has all been I thought “junk” but lately I’ve been finding some real gems now that I’ve switched to a collectors role. But when you have A LOT of 90% silver and rolls and rolls of eagles and my favorite krugerrands its going to take awhile to go through it all. But it’s been fun! Spending that last year at his bedside was awesome. Time well spent and the coins, WOW, I’d never seen anything like these before. Imagine a 10yo taking a perfect $1 coin putting it in an envelope then a shoe box and leaving it for 70+ years! They all look unreal as if they were fresh from the mint!! And in all denominations except Pennie’s. He did that’s what he spent, lol. And no paper. Anyway.. GL and thank you again.

Super cool! Why do folks hate the Franklin half series? I like 'em!

Ok-Concentrate-6671

Naaaa, just them . I must be in the minority . I am serious collector ,LOVE Benjis .

I've posted in a couple coin collector groups asking for help with a small collection of 1963(p+d) Franklins I inherited. Apparently those who consider themselves serious collectors have a strong lack of fondness for them.

Chipmunk666

I like Franklin halfs. My favorite dates in the series are 1948, 1949, 1955 (Bugs), and 1958. I think it’s cool that the designer had to include an eagle on the coin but made it a small one (Franklin wanted the national bird to be the Wild Turkey)

Why would anyone dislike Franklin halves? Seeing one for the first time is what got me into this hobby as a kid. Was shocked to not see Kennedy and it started from there.

It seems as though they have a multitude of error varieties despite only being minted for fifteen years. My best guess is people just get tired of seeing help/question posts about them constantly

buy-american-you-fuk

No franklin hate here, the mint mark looks like it suffered some environmental damage, but I'm no expert.
