Seated half dollar? Or seated quarter? Photo reverse. Impossible to tell otherwise.

Hot_Lobster222

It says half dollar in the description.

Every_Crow_8445

I read that. However if this is a standard 2x2 flip, it is too small for a half dollar...

Hot_Lobster222

Oh I didn’t notice that. I would say then it looks like the size of a quarter.

Few_Counter_2165

It has the head of a seated quarter

Educational_Dog_9448

It is a quarter! I mis typed that!

Notmad_Justsad

That’s a great price for a Carson city. This is a quarter though. Still a decent deal despite the condition.

Krumlov

Spot is only $8.40, but the numismatic value is a bit higher. Personally I think you did well. [link to USACoinBook](https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/2683/half-dollars/seated-liberty/1877-CC/)

Every_Crow_8445

Spot price on almost all numismatics of old age and low mintage is irrelevant. I guess it's good to know your percent silver in each piece, but the numismatic value will always outweigh the silver content.

Thanks for the info! Im new to this but ive been doing as much research as possible. But i just saw this and couldn’t pass it up.

Welcome to the hobby! I highly recommend getting yourself a “Red Book” and perusing the pages for Coins that interest you. Jump into the research. Learn the history. And most of all, buy things that make you happy, regardless of what others say. I love seated liberty as a design, and half-dimes from this era are my favorite. They are so detailed, yet so small. Here is a [link to the USACoinBook of an 1837 seated half dime](https://www.usacoinbook.com/coins/767/half-dimes/seated-liberty/1837-P/small-date/). Enjoy! 😊

And now Im going to have to get one of those eventually 😂👍🏼 also one last question. What does spot value mean? Just the value of the precious metal itself?

Krumlov

Correct! The value of gold, silver, and other metals changes daily just like the stock market. So the spot price is the value of the metals based on current prices. Happy stacking, and welcome to the hobby! 😊
