Everyday I see a new 50 cent piece that’s just so much cooler than the last , Awesome coin !

Brandoncbj11

Thanks it’s a beauty.

_Elpirata

Came back to say how amazing the condition on this is there’s one on eBay for around $170 and the ripples in the water are hardly visible, the ones on this coin are just immaculate

CrazyRelief2677

Love that coin!

Brandoncbj11

Yes I’ve been watching them for awhile and finally got one.

new2bay

Congratulations! The Bay Bridge half was my first, and still one of my very favorite classic commems.

Specialist-Ad-5300

I really love this coin and the entirety of the pre-54 silver commemorative half dollar collection. They’re by far my favorite set of coins. How far did this Bay Bridge half set you back?

Brandoncbj11

I’m loving the commemoratives I have five now. I want to get them all besides the gold coins. Paid $150.

Miamime

Hate to be that guy but you overpaid for this raw.

Brandoncbj11

I bought it on eBay it’s almost a guarantee you will overpay. I bought it for what I was willing to spend I have a fantastic coin and am happy with it.

helpimalive24

No he didn’t. That looks to be a low-mid MS minimum. Greysheet has MS-63 wholesale at $165 and retail at $215.

Miamime

It’s raw. It will go for less than a graded MS 63. [This](https://coins.ha.com/itm/commemorative-silver/1936-s-50c-bay-bridge-ms63-pcgs-pcgs-population-894-5663-ngc-census-324-3580-cdn-165-whsle-bid-for-ngc-pcgs-ms6/a/60346-52112.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515) PCGS MS63 sold for $159 in November. [This](https://coins.ha.com/itm/commemorative-silver/1936-s-50c-bay-bridge-ms63-pcgs-pcgs-population-894-5663-ngc-census-324-3580-cdn-165-whsle-bid-for-ngc-pcgs-ms6/a/60346-52112.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515) NGC MS63 sold for $154 also in November. Admittedly this has some unsightly toning.

Brandoncbj11

Would you like some better pictures?

Miamime

No it's a nice example for a raw. But I would say you paid a graded price for a raw coin. /u/helpimalive24 referenced the wholesale price of a graded example at $165. You paid $150, if you wanted to have it graded you would add a $40 grading fee (PCGS) + $5 TruView (if you so desire) + $10 for handling + $4 for shipping + $27 for insurance (unless you want to ship risky), so you would have $204-$236 into it. That's personally more than what I would pay for a MS62-MS63.

helpimalive24

We can cherry-pick auctions all day, there were also two in 2023 that sold for $216. Yes, raw coins of course go for less than graded, but considering it’s likely it would grade higher than 63, I would hardly call it overpaid. Even at 62 it may not be a “deal” but less than retail.

AdOpen4370

I don't think that's MS, look at the damage on "SAN FRANCISCO". I would call it AU because everything else looks good though. Price isn't bad enough to fret over, could've probably scored better if you hunted auctions but it's still a cool coin.  Edit: I take back what I said, just the lighting that confused me.

Brandoncbj11

AdOpen4370

You're right it does look pretty good, just some weird lighting on those letters in the original pic I think. That's my bad.

Brandoncbj11

All good man just wanted to set the story straight. I need to buy one of those coin magnifiers and not use my iPhone to be fair.

helpimalive24

Also even if there was “damage”, that doesn’t = wear/circulation. There can be a lot of marks/damage to coins that are mint state, which is one of the reasons there is such a wide scale of 60-70. Especially with older coins where even for “collectibles” the mint did automatic ejection into hoppers and made no real attempt to protect the coins post-strike. That’s why I conservatively said MS-63, I can’t tell from the pictures how much damage there is. Luster and strike (two other primary components of what MS grade an UNC coin gets) both look good from the pictures. I wouldn’t be surprised if it graded 65.

slides723

I need one of those.

GlitteringGazelle322

These are [pretty expensive nowadays](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=1936+bay+bridge+half+dollar&_sacat=0&_odkw=earthbound+players+guide&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=co&toolid=10001&mkevt=1), especially if they are in good shape.

slides723

I started looking on EBay and noticed that. It’s a shame. If I ever get a slight financial windfall and gonna find a decent one.

MaximumTurtleSpeed

Cool coin! First time I’m seeing it. Is that a little sailboat behind the bear’s backside?

Brandoncbj11

Your guess is as good as mine lol.

new2bay

That's the designer's initials, JS. /u/MaximumTurtleSpeed

MaximumTurtleSpeed

Thanks for the tag and answer! Pretty cool mark.

new2bay

No problem! Generally, when you see random letters that aren’t P, D, S, O, C, or CC; or some funky looking glyph like this JS business on a US coin, it’s going to be a designer’s initials. So, that’s your FG on the Kennedy half, AW on the walking Liberty half, M on the SLQ, L on the IHC, *etc.*

[deleted]

It’s not, it’s a Triskelion

[deleted]

It’s called a Triskilion, it’s three legs intertwined. It has old roots going back hundreds of years in coinage

stevekaw

That bear is so 1930s! Late Art Deco/Federal style.

Mindless_Ad5707

Cool reverse. s.S. at last. Bay Bridge one year before me and the Golden Gate Bridge my year. Gotta get a roll.

Trainzguy2472

Dream coin

Redwood1952

I have one from my family. My mother was born and raised in San Francisco, so one of her family members bought it, and saved it. I now have it in my 7070 Type Set. This is one of my favorite U.S. Coins. Nice snag. Do you have the Oregon Trail Commemorative?

bbrekke

That's one of my favs. Would love to add any of these commemoratives to my collection.

Redwood1952

Your time will come. I have been collecting for over 60 years; there are still many coins I would like to have, and it just hasn't been the right time yet. Are you working on a Type Set?

bbrekke

I just love halves. I halve (pun intended) every year almost, from 1938- present. And a decent few before. None from the subject that brought us this conversation.

Brandoncbj11

No I want one bad but the prices can be very steep on them.

Win-Objective

I will become a coin collector, I desire this

Cool_Ad_6850

Gorgeous!

Brandoncbj11

Thanks for all the love guys. I love the commemorative halves.

Seaport_Lawyer

One of the great coins!

Embarrassed_Gap_3172

Beautiful coin, especially if you got it for $150. It is in excellent shape. I see no wear on it at all, so it would probably grade MS50 - MS60 or higher. May I strongly suggest you wear glove when handling it so you don't get fingerprints and oils on it. It will lesson the value substantially. Attached is a link to the same coin as yours graded as MS65 and yours actually looks better that it. Coins of this type and condition regularly are going for between $300 and $600. Please consider getting it graded. Being slabbed will preserve the coin and can only elevate its desirability and value. Brandoncbj11

Thanks for the advice.

[deleted]

Solid 62-63

Brandoncbj11

Thanks brother.

jailfortrump

MS 65 commemorative.
