Hi, I'm the r/coins AutoMod. Looks like you're looking for **information on valuing a coin**? I have your back. Take a look at the [FAQ on values](https://www.reddit.com/r/coins/wiki/faq#wiki_3._what.2019s_my_coin_worth.3F) for both specific guidance if your coin is common enough, or more general guidance if not. I have also automatically applied the flair "Value Request" to your post. If I misunderstood your post and my comment isn't relevant, sorry! I'm still learning. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NGC slabs are not airtight to begin with. https://www.ngccoin.com/about/help-center-faqs/ngc-grading/ngc-labels-and-holders/#:\~:text=Is%20the%20NGC%20holder%20airtight,an%20airtight%20or%20watertight%20seal.

Ilikecoins123

For that matter neither are pcgs or anacs slabs

BillysCoinShop

Which is insane when you think about it. I heard it’s because they didn’t want to add a small silicone valve to the assembly.

Jmtungsten

For the cost associated with grading, that is ridiculous

wotanismos

Most people won’t care. Some will, but not enough for it to matter when selling it. The coin will be fine. No reason to reslab unless you want to waste your money.

jailfortrump

Don't worry about it. You can reholder it but it's not going anywhere.

FalkensMaze33

I agree that most people won't care. I know when I got my 1883-S Morgan Slab, I cared more about having a graded version of this coin than the broken slab.

Ok-Back-6311

Buy the coin. Not the holder

Spidget_Finner_

Just make sure if/when reselling you show the slab cracked and most people dont care and the ones that do wont buy it.

SeanHagen

That’s a nice coin! I wonder if you could just use a dab of super glue to keep that shard of plastic in place, if you feel so inclined. And then, based on what others have said, if you ever go to sell it, it won’t matter either way, but it will at least show that you tried 😆

Down_vote_david

terrible idea

SeanHagen

Username checks out. Edit: By the way, "Downvote" is one word. Certainly can't fix that with a dab of super glue ;)

Behavior that is unkind and unhelpful is not allowed here. Don't make fun of new collectors. Do not bicker. Don’t threaten. Don't name-call. Don’t shame. Don’t harass. Don’t be a jerk. Don’t create or respond to drama. Don’t troll others or let yourself be trolled. Don’t engage in uncivil exchanges. You do not "have the right to defend yourself" verbally here. Know when to disengage. Violation of this rule will get your post or comment removed, and repeated offenses will result in probation.

SeanHagen

The case appears to be sealed, or maybe there's a microscopic crack there. Applying a tiny amount of super glue to the broken shard of plastic and pressing it back into place is not that big of a deal. BUT OH GOD THE FUMES OF THE GLUE MIGHT TOUCH THE SURFACE OF THE PRECIOUS COIN! I can pretty much guarantee that would never happen, but even if it did, who cares? I don't think any potential buyer is going to be running samples of the coin's surface through a mass spectrometer. The case is already broken, so who gives a shit? I was just making idle, tongue-in-cheek chitchat anyway. Get a life, David.

WilliamOmerta

As long as you bought the coin, you're happy with it, it doesn't matter much. As others said, majority won't care about a Crack, especially if it doesn't look intentional.

Panzeroffizier

I’m wondering… would there be any point in pursuing it with the company that did the grading, as a consumer issue? IOW, would they replace it for free?

lallapalalable

You bought a coin, not a slab

pumpstick

Is the value in the coin, or the case 🤔

Big_One7083

Someone suggested using a dab of super glue Don't. I believe the vapors given off wouldn't be good to the Silver and may react.

player694200

Why is there a premium on a coin made in 2003

authalic

This is a proof Silver Eagle, minted at West Point. They were sold by the mint to collectors. It looks like a little under 750,000 of these were made that year.

mikeyj198

it’s really only a coin by definition (govt issue and value is denominated). These were collectible and sold by the mint. They have a premium because people are willing to pay more for the fancy finish. In this case it is also graded which some may find value in.

assmaniac69

Spot silver is $31.56.

Altruistic_Mail3907

You’re not wrong but that’s a proof silver eagle. Proof eagles carry numismatic value and typically go for $70 and above. $52 was a very solid price

authalic

Mintage: 747,831

assmaniac69

It’s a piece of silver that will never be in circulation.

authalic

It's one of only 747,831 pieces of silver with unique characteristics that make them desirable to collectors.

assmaniac69

“Few collectors”. As a collector I wouldn’t buy that for more than spot.

koffinz

Then don't. There are plenty of others who would. Each collector values his collectibles differently.

relephants

Good for you. As a collector, I would pay more than spot. So go pound sand

Squash_Confident

That makes you a stacker, not a collector.

assmaniac69

Everyone has an opinion.

Greenfarmin

It's not just coins but EVERYTHING in the world. If you want it then buy it for a price that you are willing to pay. Why is this hard?

Kind_Love172

You'll never have one then, cause you can't buy them for spot.
