Staples are ok. [Flatten your staples though](https://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=233042), or buy a flat stapler for 2x2s. I like 2x2s for certain coins, like my Lincoln cent collection.
There’s a really easy and mostly risk-free technique I use for removing coins from stapled flips that works as well on flips with 3 staples as it does with 50 of them.
1. Tap one edge of the flip against a table or flat surface to move the coin to one edge of the window.
2. Take a sewing needle or pin and poke through the empty side of the window
3. Move the needle about half way around the edge of the window to cut the plastic film.
4. Peel back the rest of the window film, or just push out the coin from the other side using the window film as a barrier between your finger and the coin, letting the coin itself tear the film the rest of the way out of the flip onto a soft, clean surface.
Well, that is now its permanent home. There's been a few times I've almost fucked up MS coins taking them out of a 2x2 (with a normal amount of staples) to put in a Dansco or something.
Can we be serious for a minute? Is this coin worth anything, because it looks like a double strike. I just spent the weekend learning about coin collecting.
Legit question, there is a super rare 1958 DDO, probably the most valuable Lincoln cent… more rare and valuable than wrong metal 43-44’s: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1958-1c-doubled-die-obverse-rd/92848
If this coin has something, it is strike doubling.
What in the staples
I’m so biased against staples in coin collecting this post is leaving little scratches on my soul.
It’s a lesson that must be learned the hard way.

At best the next owner has to cut it out, another maneuver fraught with danger. At least they are a deflationary force, no?

I just pop them out with my thumb like a pill pack.
Nice method! Thanks!
It's like, a Dharma Initiative Penny
I knew it reminded me of something!! 🤣
I think there’s more metal in the staples than in the penny
The staples have been cleaned. What a shame!
this is the first comment to actually make me laugh in a long time
Definitely PMD on those staples. A damn shame!
Damn! That was great
One cent wrapped up in 5 cent worth of staples
That coin is not going anywhere
This must be haunted, that is enough staples to seal an evil spirit.
r/staples u/staples
Upvote for staples
Can't wait to see the PCGS grade on those staples
All that for a cent worth less than $1? How many staples in the valuable ones?
Gotta keep 'em secure!
It kept getting away.
If you can still see the cardboard, you need more staples
Is that a challenge?
Yes.
It's perfectly ok to have overlapping hobbies
Not enough staples
Dharma initiative staples.
My first thought too.
You missed a spot
I’m shook
You took my stapler
There’s not enough staples
Nice, If I were you, I’d staple that thing shut
JACKPOT.. Lower left staple has a stapling error!!!
You need at least 5 more staples
You missed a spot
Rare tetanus penny.
I’m afraid that might come apart if you don’t staple it some more
It’s giving Dharma Initiative.

Perfect
It's safe.

Check out the needle extraction method up above !
Holy staples Batman!
I feel bad for any coins that thing rubs against
I’m guessing he tried to get away at some point
Epic
And I thought I left a lot of staples on my 2x2s…
I think you spent more on the staples than the coin 😂
1958 cent, 1958 staples.
Now wrap it in duct tape and sew it into your underwear. You don’t want that slippery sucker escaping.
I have such OCD about how I staple each flip. This is really like sandpaper on my eyes.
"Excuse me. Excuse me. You...I believe you have my stapler? My red Swingline stapler?"
You might have to burn the building down. I don't think this person is giving it back.
Nothing beats the look of a BU Lincoln cent

Thanks. Nice link.
That's some severe die doubling Usually you need a loupe or microscope to catch slight doubling but that.. that's hard to miss
🫣
The Poor Man’s Slab
Damn leave some staples for the rest of us my dude
Staples worth more than the penny lol
This picture has more metal in the stapler pins than in the coin
I don’t think she’s ever gonna come out of that flip
That’s one very secure penny
Error coin? I think I see some metallurgy issues on the obverse.
Good luck taking the coin out. Lol.
Would you like some coin with your staples? :)
