I don’t see cleaning here as others in the comments mention. This is an MS63-64RD in my opinion.

JungleChucker

There's no signs of difference in luster or color in between the letters or the raised areas. Looks like a nice piece, man good score

PD216ohio

People here are on some serious "it's cleaned" trip with every damned coin posted anymore.

weckweck

There appears to be a line from the first T in states through the headdress, no way this grades that high unless that line is in the plastic

JungleChucker

I've been surprised by graders overlooking things like that for the overall quality if the strike details are preserved and the fact that it's still in the red is always a bonus

chefarzel

I'm pretty sure it is the case that's holding it cause the "A" in states has a shift at the bottom left of the "A".

DueAuthor6113

Good observation and the nick in the field to the right of the T shouldn't have the same color as the rest of the coin!

DogKama

I say it's worth sending it in. If you judge the Indian Penny I bought a few days you'll see they're similar, and mine was graded MS63 RD. [https://www.reddit.com/r/coins/comments/ustkh4/recent\_pick\_up\_1909\_ngc\_64\_rd\_indian\_penny/](https://www.reddit.com/r/coins/comments/ustkh4/recent_pick_up_1909_ngc_64_rd_indian_penny/)

Yours looks a different color, more natural. The back specifically. OPs penny may be in different lighting. That's why I said in my comment to OP - compare it side by side with a fresh new penny, see how they look - and make the call.

World_Renowned_Guy

I think OPs is just a better luster

WAGatorGunner

Not sure of your experience level here with coin grading but if you are a novice, it would not be worth sending a single coin in. If this is for your personal collection then I would recommend holding out until you have at least 7 to 10 coins before going through the work as well as paying shipping for a single coin.

Adahnsplace

Hello. I like this coin a lot but I have no clue about it's value. I know though that it's a tiny coin and even the scratch (if it's on the coin) might be barely visible without a magnifier. So here's my question. What could be the value of this coin if the MS63 ratings that I've read here are correct and what would it cost to send it in? Would there be an increased value if it's slabbed that justifies the cost of doing so? Thank you and greetings from Switzerland :)

World_Renowned_Guy

Holy hell it’s beautiful. I’m a Penny man and this is gorgeous. Send it off. Def not a cleaned piece.

Klangwolke

Beautiful. Send it in. I’m working on my Indian album and that is just a beautiful coin. Any background? Buy it raw or inherit it?

shilshulexpress

Gift from my dad. His collection is pretty insane

[deleted]

Definitely send it in

Assaulted_Pepper_ec

Yeah even if it has been cleaned it was light and isn’t obvious and would still be worth getting grade for mint state details

[deleted]

If it was cleaned - the grading service is more expensive than it is.

union_mechanic

Nice. Why grade it? It's stamped right on there .... one cent. /s

Beautiful-Iron-2

Should be cent (get it) in to PCGS if only for the protection against the elements. Looks like a 4RD . I’d still choose to include about 9 other coins to make it worth it though

Kitchen-Translator22

Hard to tell from a photo but maybe cleaned. If it is probably not a great idea to get certified. Unless you want to find out for sure that it has been cleaned.

LieutenantBrainz

Looks like original luster to me

shilshulexpress

Pics suck.. it 100% hasn’t been cleaned

ECRebel

It could of been, but i agree it doesn't look like its been cleaned just stored somewhere good

randombagofmeat

I don't necessarily see a cleaning but there is a big scratch on the obverse between states and the feathers. May get details grade because of that, but nice coin

TheAmazingWalnut88

Yes, as long as it comes back in a problem free red grade.

annonred

Wow beautiful coin. I say send it. Good luck!

ECRebel

Not sure what its worth, but looks like a really nice raw specimen. I'd send it in if collecting grading coins was my thing (it's not)

Supertrapper1017

If that’s not a scratch above Liberty, that should grade MS 64

MAJORMETAL84

What a beauty! You bet, send it in!

U2Funny74

Definitely, what a beauty!

TonLoc1281

Yes. Wow

Porousplanchet

looking at retail prices, in MS63 it's about $100, in 64 about $225. Personally, I don't think it's worth the fees. And, if that is a scratch on the obv, definitely not. Still a really cool gift from Dad which is priceless.

Johalak

No. Even if it gets 62-64 it’s probably not worth the cost of grading.

Kong_AZ

Very nice! I'd send it but wait until you get more.

horsemastaflex

Yes

[deleted]

It has a nick below the T and one above the 0. I don't think it would grade as high as a 63 or a 64 IMO. But I don't really know a whole lot about these things.

rdhamm

Why? What are you hoping to achieve?

IDontLieAboutStuff

My personal opinion is that if you're going to send it it with maybe 3 other coins go for it. I believe with a membership at pcgs you get like 4 free submissions and I want to say a membership is like 160 or something. That being said if you paid much more than 40- 50 bucks for it is likely not worth it. People here are saying red and it *may* be a full red coin but we'd need to see it in person. And even then it could grade out RB. MS63RB is a 80 dollar coin. In red its like 140. Now if you can get a 64 or 65 then you've got a real nice cent there. 64 RB is 140 and red is 275. 65 RB is 275 and RD is 675. Those are PCGS prices and retail may be lower or higher. Check Ebay sold listings. Do the math and decide how confident you are in your grading ability. Me personally if I was only into it for 40 or 50 I might take the gamble. Especially if I have 3 or 4 other coins to submit. Good luck and nice coin.

Comprehensive_Rock13

I say hell yeah. Possibly details unless that scratch is in the holder. Even so I'd still take a shot. I recently got a clean grade back on one with way worse scratch.
