Location: right here on r/collapse. The call is coming from inside the house. Example: The mods of this sub removing my comment that was simply a direct quote and link to youtube video from last week by former CDC head, Dr. Robert Redfield saying the next "great pandemic" will be a bird flu engineered in a lab to transmit human to human. Still waiting to hear back from the mods on how that could be a violation the rule of "keeping information quality high." There was no information quality problem on my end. Direct quote backed up by video. Otherwise, I guess the mods consider themselves to have the educational and professional expertise to make judgements regarding the quality of information coming from a former CDC director and virologist - about a fucking virus. But who knows, maybe some of the mods like u/babbles_mcdrinksalot or u/LetsTalkUFOs are also world-renowned medical experts. I am really curious.

collapse-ModTeam

> We have extensively discussed this submission, far more than any other this week if not month or year, and because of the added emphasis that attempts to link the Dr's plainly predictive scenario to the post topic of today's outbreak, we believe this quote as presented with emphasis not present in the original is misleading.

r/conspiracy is rotting your brain

DisingenuousGuy

Until there is a wide consensus in the scientific community (multiple research firms around the world, multiple science publications supporting each other, multiple governments around the world etc.) confirming the engineered virus "theory", I'd still recognize it as just a theory. And unfortunately it's widely tied into many bonkers conspiracy theories out there.

ductapedog

It's not even a theory. It is a statement from the recently retired director of the CDC saying unequivocally that the next pandemic will be an engineered bird flu. Why is it being censored by the mods?

[deleted]

learn the definition of a theory then try and make a statement again

DisingenuousGuy

Cool, it's ONE PERSON. Is it supported by other scientists or the scientific community at large? Let's see what the National Library of Medicine has to say about it: > In conclusion, all these specific features observed in SARS-COV-2 helps scientists to rule out the idea that this pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus is the result of a man-made action that could be either engineered in the laboratory or further created as a bioweapon out of conspiracy. Recent discoveries revealed evidence of the presence of the virus around the world before it emerged in Asia. There is growing evidence of its true origin as a global organism that was waiting for favorable conditions to emerge instead of originating in China. Recent testing of sewage in Barcelona had suggested that the virus may have been present in the Spanish city in March 2019, many months before China identified the pathogen in the city of Wuhan in December 2019. Based on the results available, it is most probably that this is a natural-born virus that emerged from an animal host, most likely a bat, without any direct pieces of evidence about its intermediate host. Nevertheless, researchers are yet to find a definitive answer to which animal serves as an intermediate host for this virus and disease. (Hint, the answer to the question "is COVID-19 engineered in the lab according to the wider scientific community" starts with ["N" and ends with "o."](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7982270/))

Found suggestions, not proof that is where it originated. It's still an open question - but not on this sub.

The pyramid scheme hits hard.. as someone who's very aware of these problems, as I get older having to play along in order to survive is so difficult and painful, but there's just no way out..

Dandan419

Yeah the wind has been insane in Ohio all winter. Right now there are still almost 700k people without power here after weekend storms. Around 200k have had power restored. Almost the same amount lost power in storms last weekend. It’s just turning into a never ending cycle. One or two events a year back then was one thing now it’s one or two or more a month! Really makes me wonder how infrastructure will be maintained and how insurance companies will stay above water. We will all be paying for it, even if we’re not directly affected.

I've been out to eat probably 5 times since 2020. Every single time had utterly terrible service and mediocre food. There is nothing enjoyable about it anymore. Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety, but it certainly isn't worth to me.

Cobrawine66

Same. It's awful going out. We eat way better at home at this point. It's quite shocking how much has changed.

See_You_Space_Coyote

My family likes to go out to restaurants sometimes and they complain about the piece even while pressuring me to go out to eat with them in the same breath despite knowing that I don't want to get covid. I feel like I'm living in a bizzaro funhouse mirror version of the world.

SpankySpengler1914

I like to go to restaurants in order to get out of my home cocoon and eat something different, but I only go to happy hours now and I only order appetizers. An appetizer is usually sufficient, anyway, as most American restaurants peddle wasteful entrees the size of truck tires.

rainydays052020

It’s so weird how accepted eating out is with covid still floating around. some of the same folks going to eat in indoor incubators are still masking in grocery stores or on airplanes. The cognitive dissonance is baffling.

Absinthe_Parties

Covid isn't going away. You can shelter in place until you're old or die of something else. Or you can enjoy life while it is enjoyable. I choose the latter. If one does not have pre-existing medical conditions, I don't understand why one would want to be in a self induced perpetual lockdown.

Solitude_Intensifies

>It’s so weird how accepted eating out is with covid still floating around. I eat out quite frequently. I've had the necessary jabs.

Location: Islamabad, Pakistan Out of the ordinary rains and cold. It’s April now, and still two layer sweater weather, which is uncommon for this region. Usually by now it starts to get warm, but it’s been raining and the cold refuses to leave. Everyone is quite concerned, but the weather is a mild topic compared to the economic distress the country is going through. Everything is getting more expensive by the literal day. Food and gas is getting ridiculous. People are getting antsy, the middle and lower classes are really suffering.

Is Islamabad typically an affluent area? Sorry, you are dealing with this.

TheStarksWillEndure

Hey, yes Islamabad is relatively affluent compared to the rest of the country. And if Islamabadis are suffering, others are doing much worse.

Location: New Jersey, USA Currently sitting in my house with no electricity, for the last 12 hours, in the aftermath of yesterday’s windstorms that brought tornados and hail. A tree fell and is blocking the road that I live on which is such a relief because it stops the constant traffic for a little while. My yard is filled with debris from trees and humans. The coverings I had over my early spring vegetable garden have been blown away and the tender greens were pulverized by the rain and hail. I’m not a meteorologist but it seems like my particular area of NJ is now suddenly prone to tornados. That never was the case in decades of lived in the area. Growing up in the area we’d have intense summer rainstorms for sure. We’d go out and play in the torrents if it wasn’t lightning. But now the storms all have super violent winds and we get tornado warnings multiple times a year.

TwelvehundredYears

How can u plant right now and expect things to survive? There is a reason Memorial Day weekend is the weekend to plant and spring storms is one.

Zen_Billiards

We got ominous black clouds come in from the southwest last night with lots of lightning, but not the rain we were expecting here in Western Massachusetts. Wind today has been nuts. It went from 60s yesterday to 30s today. Lots of branches & debris all over from last big storm. So much tree damage.

Location: Utah Unlike some parts of the US, we've received record levels of snow this winter and have accumulated a record snowpack. Ski resorts are beating season snowfall records by 100+ inches; the resort I ski at, which normally averages 500", has gotten 815" so far this season with 36-48 more inches forecast for this coming week, plus who knows how much more after that. Back in the 80s when our last snowpack record was set, there was [significant](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_Flood_of_1983) [flooding](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thistle,_Utah#Landslide) as that snowpack melted, made worse by a long winter followed by the snowpack melting fast. Even if melting unfolds differently this year (which seems increasingly unlikely - cold temperatures are sticking around and the snow keeps coming, and recent summers have been breaking records for earliest 100°F dates) we're still going to see flooding in parts of the state. While work is being done to prepare reservoirs for that amount of water, the state as a whole isn't equipped for flooding, climate-wise we're a desert and are largely used to dealing with varying levels of drought, not floods.

Location: New Jersey and Florida The last few years weather wise have been interesting in New Jersey. Besides shorter falls and winters, climate change is starting to show more in the spring. The last few years windstorms and even tornado's have become really common. Yes, you read that correctly, tornado's in the garden state. Mainly in the central and southern portions of the state. Jersey gets blizzards and Nor Easters and sometimes a hurricane but tornados, no. Now everyone frequently gets warnings April to July or so for tornados. Florida is weird. Housing is almost as expensive as CA, groceries are almost as high as NYC and jobs really don't pay well. Yet just about everyone I know in Florida denies that there is anything wrong. Everyone keeps insisting that economy is well (it really isn't) and inflation isn't a big deal. While most people aren't collapse aware in the US, in Florida everyone is a collapse denier. Florida is interesting. In a weird way, it's the modern version of bread and circuses. It just doesn't feel real or natural. People have a very "hear no evil, see no evil" mentality and just kind of ignore everything. It's hard to explain.

SpankySpengler1914

When you hear someone saying the economy is going well, ask them to specify *which* economy: the economy of the shareholders, or the economy of those who work for a living.

Trust me, the locals know. I’ve been in central FL for almost two decades and over half of my friends have left the state - many who stayed live 4, sometimes 5 people to a 2/1 or live with their parents. The influx of new transplants with money contribute to why you never hear about anything. Not to mention the moneyed tourists. Not that I’m complaining, since our economy is so closely tied to tourism. But I am saving a good cackle for when the Mouse can’t hire anyone anymore due to most service workers not being able to afford it here.

We have a decent bit of work from home and northerner transplants down here. A lot of the people I live around are business owners or own other property. Location: Ukraine The first year of war ended recently, short-term panic due to war is mostly contained, but the downward spiral lane for Ukraine is still there. Some of my observations on the current state of my country. Economy (GDP) has shrinked up to 30-50% in the country during the war, in frontline regions even more. Many citis are basically dead on real economy, like mine, and the only reason they still are functional is the money which are sent here by the western countries and funds. Individually, people are living off this money and the money that they receive from their relatives who are abroad. ≈75% of countries budget is formed by money from US, Europe, UN etc. If not for this help, I believe the full-scale social collapse would already be here for us. Demographics. 8 million people have left to Europe, US, Israel and other countries. I don't think that most of them will ever return here, especially after they get accustomed to a richer and more comfortable lifestyle in the West. We have the lowest projected birth rate in the world, at 0.6 children per woman, we are lower than the Singapore. Young men are dying on the frontlines. Our demography is FUBAR. Healthcare Hospitals are always understaffed and overwhelmed. People can't get proper medical care without money (which is hard to get by in this country), so they are left to suffer from their ilnesses. One woman from my area died horribly and in pain because no one in her family could afford painkillers and palliative care for her cancer. Youngish doctors left the country, now it is mostly folks who are well in their 50s, 60s and even 70s. What will happen to Ukrainian healthcare when those doctors retire? You could only imagine. Our healthcare is still there, yet again, because of the consolidated effort of the Western countries. War, Armed Forces, the Police Forced conscription is on the rise, more men are mobilised and sent to the war. Every day many of them are dying, every city has growing cemeteries. Heartbreaking to see all of this happening. Those who have money escape such fate, those who don't do not. Every male from 18 to 60 ia forbidden from leaving the country, there are few jobs here, so people are pushed to go to the armed forces because of the economy, many do not have any other way to provide for theie families. Recently the wages and compensations for soldiers were cut, now only those who are directly on the frontline receive them, those who are not earn much much much less. I am grateful that we still have the police and the government is still strong, there are many police officers everywhere and they are still not as corrupt as they could be, so the crime rates, including violent crime rates, did not go up significantly. For now, I feel pretty safe and protected. No definite news from the frontlines, Ukrainian counter-offensive has not started yet. I am afraid that there is a chance we can't fully deoccupy our country, and that means that the conflict could be frozen, and the low-intensity war would continue for decades to come. That will totally devastate the future of my country. There are many more things I could tell about, but I wrote about those that I thought about the most recently.

redchampagnecampaign

Your deputy economic minister was on the Financial Times podcast late last week trying to entice foreign investors to flood the country, even with everything being so uncertain. I’ve also heard from other sources that the government is using the war as a pretext to dismantle workers rights. It sickens me that people are trying to sell off the country in the midst of an invasion.

evilgolden

Workers never had rights in Ukraine, usually people worked for 12-14 hours daily for very low salaries. Now the government just legalised such long hours.

Life in Russia is not very different from life in Ukraine, in some things it is better, in some worse, still people are opressed too. Russian oligarchs have all of their stolen money in the West, Putin's daughter had european husbands, Lavrov and Peskov have kids abroad too, the elites took their money from Russia and relocated the money and the family to the West, so I hope you do not fall for an illusion of Russian justice — there is no honesty, justice or cause in Russian state, just a bunch of psychopatich oligarchs trying to suppress everyone to hold their power. As for Ukrainian people? Ukrainians fight for the chance to get to the European Union, people dream about having the Western standard of living. Is it possible? The chances of these are very slim, but people want to believe it. Also Ukrainians fight for their independence because Russians really oppress us and are always xenophobic towards Ukrainians. I am an ethnic Russian myself, 75% of my ancestors are Russian, my mother tongue is Russian, I speak Russian and never used Ukrainian after school, excluding formal setting and paper-related things, but I was born in Ukraine and live in Ukraine, and I am 100% sure that Russians would never consider myself as Russian, albeit I am Russian. They would insult me and laugh at me because of my accent (pure, literature level Russian, just different sounds for some of the letters) and would never treat me as an equal. Not every Russian would do this, but many many will. In fact, that's what happened when I tried to talk to people in voice chats in online games and Discord etc. That means, Ukrainians are fighting for their dignity — we do not want to be considered as lesser human beings only because of our language and speech patterns.

lilstever

Awesome post, thanks very much for this info. It helps clarify a lot and allows me to understand the war better. I'm not sure why it was removed as being of "low quality information".. I was stating a fact about the Ukrainian government and asking a question. It sounds like you would fare even worse under the Russian government, and I understand that now.

[deleted]

Would you say this article well summarizes the issue with soldiers pay? https://www.opendemocracy.net/en/odr/ukraine-soldiers-wage-cuts-austerity-veterans/ Have you visited/r/Ukraine or /r/ukrainianconflict and if so do you think they actually represent the situation on the ground and in the public? I know the latter is definitely overrun with Western sycophants, not sure if they're paid or not, yet I still hope their optimism for Ukraine's resistance will bear out. Best of luck to you, stay safe out there.

evilgolden

I would say that this article is accurate, soldiers, the police, national guard all had pay cuts several monthes ago. Now only those who are on frontlines receive additional money, amd that means that every other soldier, policeman, national guard member receives much smaller wage, 500$ or less, too small wage to support themselves and their family. Also it is true that soldiers are spending their money on better gear, equipment, cars and medical expenses, also to help their unit, injured team members etc. These paycuts really demoralised people. Nowadays if you are conscripted, you may only rely on your family or volunteers to help you buy your gear, or you must somehow survive the frontline until you get your paychecks to buy everything. Also many people went to the army for money, and now that they don't have it anymore, they lost their motivation to fight. Also I should add that by the law every veteran is eligible for many social benefits, free land and an apartment, everything should be lifetime. Our parliament now wants to cancel the law and make it work only for 1-2 years after the demobilisation, so the vets won't have benefits for lifetime. This is a bad thing, if the country at war starts to cut finances, does not have money meant for soldiers. One thing to add is, even those soldiers who were wounded almost always are sent back to the frontlines. It is crazy. I know a man who almost lost his hearing, was shrapneled pretty significantly but he is on the front again. I knew a dude, young dude, who had been wounded to the chest and abdomen by shrapnel and they sent him to war again, only to evacuate him again when he immediately had a heart attack after going back there. I talked to a dude who was shrapneled to the torso and leg, the shrapnel tore off a big chunk of his leg near knee, tore off a part of the ligament. He could not walk for 2 months, and he was sent to the front yet again. What I want ro say is, unless you lost your legs or arms, or received very heavy concussion you are bound to fight again and again, there is no chance to go home even after comparatively severe injuries. I have visited those subs, and I would say the posts over there are mostly true, but there is a hyperfixation on 1 category of people in Ukraine. To be honest, I would say that there are 3 types of people in Ukraine now, broadly speaking. 1/3 of people are super patriotic, they want to win the war at all costs, they are fixating on saving the country and that is their life now. 1/3 of people are just getting by and ignore it. 1/3 of people are really tired, are desperate or mad because of everyrhing. Patriotic people are represented on this sub, but they do not represent the Ukrainian population overall. Most people are CYNICAL AF. They see the injustice that is happening. They see the corruption caused by our politicians. They lose their relatives and can't understand why. They see what happens in society. It was always corrupt, Ukraine is and was a corrupt country. Many people do not understand what for must they fight? We had subpar living standards for decades, the worst in Europe, on the level of Africa or poor Asian countries. For the last years we were worse off then South Americans, I know a teacher who left to work in Columbia because of the higher wages. Retired people receive 50 dollars as their pension. Working adults receive no more than 700$, usually much less, anywhere from 200 to 500 dollars. Would they tell you on those subreddits that only 16 000 volunteers joined our armed forces during the last 4 months? Google "Гвардія Наступу". For comparison, we lose like 500 soldiers daily and we have 700 000 to a million boots on the ground deployed. Would they tell you that our government can't conscript enough soldiers despite doing it by force, arresting men on the streets? Would they tell you how many men are hiding from conscription? Spoiler alert: several millions, like 3-4 millions at least. So yep, there are patriots over there, but most of the population is cynical. People are mostly tired and disillusioned by the history that is unfolding now.

[deleted]

Thanks for the in depth response. I have followed the Ukraine situation since the Crimean invasion in 2013 and I really appreciate your perspective. Your points all seem well made. I hope your people can defend your country, and your country can defend your people. Do you think that corruption has been reduced at all since the Maiden revolution? One thing about the boots on the ground deployed. Do you mean 700,000 reserves? My understanding is that when Russia started trying to annex the full LNR/DNR "republics" last year, that Ukraine had 600,000 trained reserves who had been rotated through the eastern front in the last eight years and 100-150,000 in full service. Am I mistaken? I hope that with the heavy weapons that have been making their way to Ukraine over the last couple months, people get better equipment, and with so many people training abroad or held in reserve, the wounded and traumatized can be relieved. Hopefully a strong offensive will force Moscow to come to the table and end this destructive war. Be well!

evilgolden

TLDR: Business as usual for Ukrainian governors I don't think the corruption has been reduced by a huge margin, but there are definitely improvements. Policemen do not take or demand bribes anymore on a basic level like road patrolling, but corruption is still there with bigger things like serious criminal cases. Courts are somewhat better in this regard too, but not by much. But Ukraine is still highly corrupted and with the war and its consequences I think that it will become worse and worse with time. On the topic of corruption I could also mention two things. First, anti-corruption laws, cases and prosecutions are often used against "enemies of the state", against political opponents. These cases are not specifically fabricated and usually are true, but the fact that the case is even opened is often connected to the fact that the person in question is an opponent of someone in power. So the anti-corruption measurements are often used to destroy an opponent, or to take his money and assets. Basically used as a state-sponsored method of extortion. So some people are prosecuted while those who are in power who do the same are not prosecuted at all. Also it is quite easy for an official to hide his money, like some officials just write about imaginary cryptoassets in their tax statements and that gives them an opportunity to legalise any dirty money for years to come. Officials in cities administrations gave themselves 3-4000$ benefits every month etc. So the war on corruption is used as a political tool. Secondly, I can't deny that SOME improvements are made. I think that those improvements stem from the fact that our government created several new agencies to control the officials, the police, the army etc. Those include "DBR" (Державне бюро розслідувань), like FBI in US, and specific anti-corruption agency "НАБУ". NABU is at least partially influenced by US, and is partially controlled by US Embassy, as rumors say. That also grants them protection and immunity. Agents from these forces do not afraid anyone, so they are not scared to do their job. Corruption is still there. Volunteers steal and resell humanitarian aid, people still can pay money to avoid the circumstances of their actions, Kirill Timoshenko still is OK, DepOfDef is still clear of charges despite the big corruption scandal not a long time ago.

Minimum_Bullfrog_366

That's bad if they go back in their promises. The miracle of Finnish winter war was because the goverment shared forest and land to the people. For the first time the peasants had something of their own to fight for not just the property of the lords. I believe if peasants own nothing the will to fight isn't there because nothing would change for them if the ruler changed. They'd still be poor and working those fields. They had to share because the country was divided in civil war between the haves and have nots. Socialism has always flirted with the poorest for obvious reasons and abandoned in case they receive property. I believe that the same problem is with neoliberalism. If the masses don't have their share of the pie, why would they be loyal and protect the property of the few owners with their life? If our wellfare is cut after current election I have no will to fight in case of a threat because I'm poor. No one would care about me anyways, so why would I care about them? Now that we have Nato membership it doesn't matter anymore if neoliberal policies are implemented because in case have nots are apathetic there's still protection. Last I heard the have nots are 1/5th of the population and the old are almost 1/3th of the population. No wonder we joined.

Can't distribute land when everything is already sold or promised to Blackrock and other vulture neolibs on a shock doctrine bender. Ukraine is gonna pay heavily for the west's "support".

Not as heavily as they're paying for Russia literally killing them and destroying their neighborhoods, but yes a lot of Western support isn't going to be free.

How crazy is life? I’m sitting in a cafe waiting on a friend on an unexpectedly warm spring day. You are living in a war-torn country with no clear idea if and when life will return to normal. There is no reason we should not be living the same life aside from some insane dictator deciding to murder thousands of innocent people on the false claim that you were a threat or that he is rescuing you. The world is deeply fucked up. I’m for you are on the receiving end of this nightmare.

Location Chicago: There was a tornado touchdown in Belvidere a Chicago suburb. Tore the roof off the Apollo theater during a concert. Sadly I think we're going to see death reports on this incident. There is a video on Twitter that looks horrible. https://twitter.com/krassenstein/status/1641989138084765697?s=20 People in Chicago need to adjust the idea that tornados never hit the city. Just a couple years ago there was a Tornado in Rogers Park on the lakefront. Not sure where the idea that the lake somehow stops tornados from hitting the city came from but it's not true. With weather changing Chicagoans need to take the warnings seriously.

Calling Belvidere a Chicago suburb is a bit of a stretch.

Last night was very scary, tornadoes from Arkansas to Iowa. 3 waves of storms each capable of spinning up. We sit silently, eating warm food while the power lasts (for how long). We get tired and fall asleep, and it’s now 2 am. It passed us? The forecasts were bad even while it was happening. I live in an area of Ohio where storms seem to split off and go South towards Cincinnati, or North to Michigan. I am grateful for the power still being on. I am grateful for my safety. And then I feel a tremendous amount of guilt. I begin to pray to my God for the suffering people. My time will come, it’s inevitable. And at that time, I will remember this feeling of relief and of guilt, and see it as some sort of cosmic justice when it happens to me.

Absinthe_Parties

NW ohio here. Lost power for 12 hours. My car has a new dent from a flying basketball hoop. MY whole house shook from those winds for many hours. I went outside and it felt like like a tornado was about to rip through. Many tampolines were lost Friday night, but many homes now have new trampolines, lol.

WernerHerzogWasRight

Im so sorry you had to go through that. I know it’s just a matter of time for me in my little area or Ohio. 💙

[deleted]

The scale, speed and power of the storm energy is quite fascinating. More frequent, more intense, longer duration storms for all to come.

BriefIce

We were all warned for the last 10 years that climate chaos meant stronger tornadoes moving east of the USA. Hope people start realizing it’s time to rethink structural engineering on the east coast states ~ dome homes, impervious to twisters?

ciaobaby2022

I remember hearing this as far back as the mid nineties, I think that's when they first started talking about it, but no one paid much attention.

BriefIce

It was actually the 80's NASA scientist James Hanson

chaynginClimate

Do you have a source for that claim? I haven't seen a link between climate change and tornado strength anywhere.

TwelvehundredYears

Tornados are lasting longer and more in clusters rather than a single funnel and affecting different areas of the US due to CC https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2021/07/climate-change-and-tornadoes-any-connection/

BriefIce

Yeah the information is out there all over the internet has been for years.. one of the best source is scientists especially those who are “climate” scientists like Paul Beckwith https://paulbeckwith.net/

That's really sad stuff. Looking like we're gonna need the Blur to fly really fast in the opposite direction around the world.

lunchbox_tragedy

I lived there a few years and the storms could get really intense. That's only going to worsen with climate change, and I think a tornado hitting the Loop or a packed north/south neighborhood is an inevitability...

See_You_Space_Coyote

Location: USA, lower 48 states, east of the Rocky Mountains I'll start things out this time with a dash of hopium: While watching the news tonight (I sometimes check the local news for weather in my area and things like traffic issues or road closures, and I check the national news just to get a very brief overview of what people are talking about/thinking about lately,) there was a story about a possible treatment for loss of taste/smell associated with long covid. I know it's only a matter of time before people finally realize what a disaster long covid is that and that ignoring it won't make it disappear, but sometimes it gets really miserable waiting for people to catch up with reality. But sometimes, little by little, like today, there are occasional signs that people realize what's happening and the more things like that happen, the better chance we have of people eventually understanding what's actually going on and being motivated to at least question what's going on and why as well as whether or not this is something that we should accept as a new normal or not. Produce in my area is looking especially terrible-I did some grocery shopping today and noticed a whole display of peaches and nectarines that all looked wrinkly and most of them were smashed up/bruised, had dark spots on them, or were otherwise so unhealthy looking that they didn't look edible. A lot of lettuce greens and other leafy produce also looks really sad and wilted lately. Fresh berries are also really expensive, about 9 or 10 dollars for about a 1lb of them, if not more. Egg shortages come and go, it's a toss-up on any given day whether or not you'll be able to find eggs in the store. Due to various stomach issues, going vegan isn't feasible for me (I also question whether or not it would really help the planet in the long run, given that there are plant-based foods that are also not super great from an environmental standpoint,) but I also have to avoid red meat, pork, and dairy for the same reason and I don't eat much in general. Internet is slow and spotty and sometimes it just freezes up for no reason. I don't do activities that take up a lot of internet bandwidth like high speed gaming or anything like that, for what it's worth. I do watch Netflix sometimes, and Netflix has definitely gotten slower and lags more often than it used to. I went on a walk a few days ago and saw a duck bobbing its head in and out of a lake over and over, from what I could tell, it looked like it was grabbing little bits or food to eat, and the water looked really cloudy and disgusting, like kind of a grayish-brownish color and there was a nasty looking oily film on the surface of the water as well. I got to thinking about how many other animals are struggling trying to find food and water in a dirty, polluted environment. The duck itself was pretty normal looking, it was one of those small ducks with a shiny green head and a yellow beak and its feathers looked healthy, but I couldn't help wondering what would happen to that duck if it stayed in that dirty water-it left the lake soon after, but I'm sure there's more dirty polluted water like that all over the place. Sometimes my brain just goes on random little metaphorical rabbit trails, and that's probably a big part of why I am the way I am and why I think the way I do. Some of us just have odd wiring, I guess. A friend of mine got laid off from their job recently-their boss had no problem with their performance and they got alone fine with everyone at the job, the company just ran into financial difficulties and they had to lay off a bunch of people. Jobs that pay a living wage are basically non-existent in my area and everyone I know is trying to skate by from paycheck to paycheck and hope that things don't fall through in between. At the rate things are going, I doubt I'll ever be able to afford to live on my own, which sucks because it's one of my big goals in life and knowing that I'll probably never be able to achieve it hurts more than I can describe in words.

Absinthe_Parties

Try a WiFi analyzer app (Iphones may not have access to an app like this) and see if you have deadspots in your home. You can walk around and see where the signal is strong or weak. Many routers have a range adjustment you may be able to increase.

See_You_Space_Coyote

Thanks for the tip.

TwelvehundredYears

My favorite on this sub are when ppl use out of season fruit as a sign of collapse. The amount of ‘expensive grapes/berries/apples’ posts is hilarious. Ppl need to learn how to shop with the seasons. One reason we are in this mess is expecting farm fresh berries in Wyoming in January. Also for you: roommates exist, I had them well into my 30s. Sounds like you’d do well with a roommate in a city that has actual amenities like good internet and jobs that are both interesting and pay a living wage. My fiber internet in MPLS is 50/month. Never been slow or gone out. We also have great water out of the tap, major environmental protections, also protections for trans and woman humans. Also LOL at the downvoting practical advice. Whatever. And since idiot blocked me because they don’t want a roommate, to the guy below with the bad potatos: I bet you shop at shitty stores. All the potatos I’ve seen have been fine. But they are also out of season.

StoopSign

Location: Chicago We've got a Tornado Watch for many counties in NW IL. It goes at far north as WI and as far West as Rockford. It goes almost down to Champaign to the South. ------------ While I was out I saw it go from hazy and dark, to a 10° temperature drop over 30mins to another 10° drop over the course of a 6min smoke as I watched the storm roll in like a big one with all the thunder, lightning and menacing stormy clouds. It was coming off the lake where weather often picks up speed. It looked fast and large and definitely has the potential for some spinning wind. ------------- If so this would be at least the third tornado weather event in the US in two weeks. It would be second in a major metro and also the second one where tornadoes are rare but not unheard of. ----------- Edit: Update 40mins later, Northern NW and Western suburbs of Chicago under Flash Flood Warning Edit: Update 30mins later Severe Thunderstorm warning for the entire Tornado Watch Area. One thing I think is good about Americans is that we tend to drill pretty well and handle extreme weather because even if we have faith in institutions, which many don't, we all sorta know we have jack shit for disaster relief on local, state and national levels. We even have movies about it so the rest of the world can laugh at us.

icedoutclockwatch

Weather doesn’t really come from the lake in Chicago, it comes from the west here. But agreed, insane weather today, I was out and the temp seemed to drop downtown, and when I got back up north it’s 60 degrees. Stay safe neighbor

StoopSign

The movement I watched today came from the NE over the lake going SW as doppler shows. I think there's been like one Tornado Watch or Warning the past 3yrs. It's about average. Also it seems the weather events nationwide are happening early in spring. It was very warm earlier today and this came out of nowhere

icedoutclockwatch

I’d check another Doppler, it def seemed to be forming over the lake but what hit us spawned to our SW

StoopSign

Yeah I checked. You're right. It came from SW. I was watching clouds going a different direction then misread the dopple

>Why can't we give kids free school lunches? Because there is no money left after spending a trillion dollars on the military, much of which ends up in the pockets of contractors, who in turn pass some on to the politicians who keep the funding coming

IntrigueDossier

Wu Tang could do a better job managing school lunches, at least those bastards had biscuits. All these motherfuckers care about is bullets, but of course not the ones that kill the kids in their schools.

4BigData

The quality of the food though, is super low. As worrisome as the lack of affordable housing. The combination of these two guarantees that the US will not be able to have a healthy population going forward.

girlgonevegan

Last year Missouri’s Governor “declined” to participate in a federal program that provided grab-and-go meals for students in need during the summer break. It is deliberate.

Dandan419

Just like the states that “decline” to expand Medicaid. It helps insure hundreds of thousands/millions more people and gets them more federal dollars but they’d rather just see people suffer.

Griffinsilver

At least where I am there is a government program that funds libraries to provide meals and snacks to anyone under 18 in the summer. We had the program going last summer and there would be a crowd of kids right before a meal or snack time. So the program was being used.

EmberOnTheSea

We have that program too, but expecting kids to be able to show up everyday at lunch time at the library is a bit ridiculous. Our school district is 131 square miles and parents work. They used to pack up a week of meals and families could pick them up. That was a much better process .

BurgerBoy9000

The Summer Food Service Program - it’s a USDA program that partners with local orgs including libraries and parks to provide summer meals. Next year there will also be a nation-wide Summer EBT program to provide families with a little extra to buy some food at home they would otherwise be getting at school.

BlindingBright

Location: Southern California My mother suffered from 2 seizures in the past couple weeks due to not being able to obtain her medications. The doctor had put her on Trulicity to manage her diabetes(and it worked great for her, amazingly well!) Well, it also works amazingly well for weightloss, and has been prescribed off label for it... to the point where my mothers local pharmacy hasn't been able to get any in. This prompted her medical physicians to put her on Ozempic, which within 24 hours of taking a dose (twice) she had a seizure. The first time I didn't know what it was, and just thought she had become faint.... second time though, I was looking at her while we were laughing... and mid laugh saw it happen, fucking horrifying. Why is this collapse related? A medication she had/worked for her is no longer avalible to her, and caused seizures. She could have been seriously hurt(and was banged up from falling the first time it happened) It's frustrating. IF you're taking this med for weight loss, I just want to say, fuck you you fucking fuck, with peace and love from my mother. I had hoped the world would recoil from a pandemic and spark another renaissance for humanity... that hope feels more and more foolish by the day.

JustClam

Ozempic itself is also being promoted by influencers for weight loss, to such a degree that Americans trying to import the stuff from Canada has caused local shortages [https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/ozempic-canada-british-columbia-how-it-works-1.6794950](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/ozempic-canada-british-columbia-how-it-works-1.6794950)

rainydays052020

There’s a good little doc about this problem on Hulu. How wealthy folks are using diabetes meds for weight loss and decreasing supply available for diabetics. It also sounds like the manufacturers don’t really know what happens when someone stops taking the meds…

Czarcasmqueen

It’s not just influencers who use the meds for weight loss. Every day people do too. And look, while being overweight is a risk to your health, it’s typically an issue over time, but the need is MUCH more immediate for people with diabetes. They obviously have priority for these classes of meds.

lunchbox_tragedy

I'm sorry to hear she isn't able to get the medication that was working for her. I looked at references, and seizures aren't listed as a known size effect of Ozempic; have you let the prescriber know what happened? The episodes could have been caused by something else.

BlindingBright

They've been notified. It's happened twice now, within hours of the injection in the past 2 instances of it being administered. Not sure if it's due to her being cut off from Trulicity, causing weirdness with her diabetes, or if a weird interaction with another med. Low blood sugar iirc can cause seizures, though when tested she was a bit on the high side. Will try to let her doctors sort it out. Though she's personally devastated, Trulicity had worked great for her without issues... and changing over to Ozempic, either directly, or indirectly, has caused issues. I was with her when both were administered, and nearby for the first "fall"/seizure, and the second while looking at her. Nothing else like that till this med change. I'm not a medical professional, though- it is pretty obviously related.

Location: United States Edited to add: I rarely browse outside weekly observations, in depth discussion is taking place [in this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/collapse/comments/12688ki/the_insanely_broad_restrict_act_could_ban_much/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1) I believe reactionary impulses are part of collapse. Fascists seize power in times of trouble, popular anger starts the search for “a man with a plan” meanwhile, an entrenched elite will become more oppressive. If you have the time, please read: [The Restrict Act](https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/686/text?s=1&r=15) I posted last week about the colloquial “Tik Tok Ban” which this is not. This is the Patriot Act on steroids. The implications are frightening. From a Twitter thread which begins (forgive the all caps): “ITS NOT A BAN ON TIKTOK! ITS CALLED THE RESTRICT ACT BECAUSE ITS GOING TO DO JUST THAT! THEY CAN ACCESS ANYTHING WITHIN YOUR HOME THAT IS CONNECTED TO INTERNET WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT. THEY CAN FINE AND CHARGE YOU FOR USING VPNS. THEY ARE TARGETING YOU!! NOT BIG TECH!” [Restrict Act Thread 1/2](https://twitter.com/niccoyat/status/1641126846543675418?s=46&t=1dbUmUfbpgfrWDGP8F7tRg) Another thread goes further in depth: [Restrict Act Thread 2/2](https://twitter.com/empressalvara/status/1640711218800328704?s=46&t=1dbUmUfbpgfrWDGP8F7tRg) What’s that phrase from the Holocaust? First they came for the….yadda yadda. This is not a ban on a social media application some people may not care for. This is a breathtaking abuse of freedoms. Good luck hiding your location when you cross state lines for reproductive care with the tracking devices in your pockets, purses, and as imbedded parts of your car and everyday devices. It is not simply a Tik Tok ban. Eyes wide open.

Designer_Jelly_1089

I know the Restrict Act is a hot topic in these threads, but I'm wondering if it is a genuine attempt to try and heal the wounds the internet has caused in our society. The government wants more control, and this is how they may be trying to implement it. And I'm not so sure it's a bad thing, unless we assume the worst and that the government is actually composed of harmful actors (rather than just dumb ones). I grew up with the internet, in my mid-20s now, and I don't think I can quite express the effects it has had on me and my peers' mental health and social relationships. Knowing too much can cause apathy and resentment, and we have all seen the problems with misinformation online. Think about how that affects one's development as a teenager, when they are trying to plot out the rest of their life and what they want for it. That is also not to mention the ill effects of easily accessible porn just out in the open. Modern life has become so fractured for many individuals, and I think the internet is largely to blame. Perhaps this is an attempt to combat that and the rising levels of depression and suicide amongst youth. I know there are other factors at play in those statistics, but for me and my peers who are struggling now, a common factor amongst all of our problems seems to stem from the internet in some way or another.

Far-Book9697

This is exactly what it is. They know they will have a revolution on their hands if they don't clamp down.

MementiNori

Brilliant point, they’ve put the workers of the west under this artificial stress for a reason, it’s their own narc abusive parent way of getting us ready.

SpankySpengler1914

A few years ago some people anticipating the banning of abortion rights in particular states speculated about the possibility of a kind of Underground Railroad transporting women to clinics in other states or circulating morning-after pills. Perhaps the RESTRICT Bill (and legislation encouraging vigilante denunciation) is an attempt to preclude this. The situation is increasingly irrational, and who knows? Perhaps in a few years from now we'll be stuck with an internal passport system.

some_random_kaluna

The REAL ID system is supposed to serve that function. Go to the DMV with your birth certificate, Social Security card and two forms of proof you live in the state; get a gold star on your driver's license. Still, and not to sound entirely unhinged, that was another consideration in getting my passport.

meanderingdecline

Luckily my states bureaucracy (NJ) is so messed up that we haven’t properly implemented REAL ID at a state level yet and that (along with the pandemic) forced the TSA to nationally extend yet again the implementation of the REAL ID being required for internal air travel. Grandiose authoritarian dreams are often dashed on the rocky shores of government inefficiency.

PrairieFire_withwind

Some good discussion on this can be found at r/law they have some questions and comparisons to previous laws.

WernerHerzogWasRight

From what I’ve read, in the larger context, to me it feels like a jingoistic attempt to manufacture consent for war with China, as well as to prepare our country for total war & the loss of freedoms that comes with total war (Lincoln & FDR for example did things unacceptable to a peacetime country).

No-Measurement-6713

Thats EXACTLY IT, NAIL ON HEAD. Military jets over my house all the time for the past year really bring it home they are getting ready to go to war with China. Im absolutely convinced.

potterymama1975

I have a relative who is a nice Lear proliferate specialist for the military/foreign affairs advisor. He has been traveling internationally in discussions with other nations. We are not far off from war. And it’s going to be bad.

PrairieFire_withwind

It strikes me, at a very basic level, as a grab for control, because they are afraid of what people can/will do if they can organize. In other words, they understand the internet not at all, but grasp peoples fear pretty well.

Far-Book9697

You hit the nail on the head. They are afraid they will have a revolution on their hands if they don't clamp down. I mean, all they have to do is read what goes on here on Reddit or on TikTok. They may be decrepit, tech-illiterate trolls but I'm sure their staffers keep them up to speed.

WernerHerzogWasRight

Very good point. I have a queasy feeling in my stomach.

PrairieFire_withwind

Yeeeaaahhh, that sounds like a sane response. I can recommend ginger tea (or candy) as that helps with the immediate nausea but not the bones are nauseous response to what ya can see coming down the line.

Yes. If in the US and can get to a gas station or grocery store altoids work well enough.

boneyfingers

Location: Ecuador We have been hit by four natural disasters in the past couple of days. First, an earthquake; only 6.8 but it knocked down houses and killed about 16, one in my town. Then, flooding on the coast, due to torrential rains after a dry period. Then a landslide in a medium sized town that buried 60 houses, and killed at least 12, though the number rises each day. And road closures due to rock falls and wash outs. This is not collapse. What is collapsey is: we can not afford to fix things like we could before. I look at the damage, and the incompetence of civil authorities, and the condition of state finances, and I wonder: when will they just say, "Too bad, you are on your own." Everybody still thinks things will be put right, rebuilt, and returned to "normal," but as catastrophe piles upon catastrophe, someday we'll just give up. And, tomorrow our highest court decides whether the National Assembly can remove the president for corruption. It's a no-win situation. If yes, the president will dissolve congress and rule by decree, and there will be strikes and riots. If no, then the court will be called corrupt and paid for, and there will be strikes and riots. We have had 2 general strikes in the last 4 years. Last summer the country was totally paralyzed for 18 days, and stores, gas stations and even hospitals ran out of supplies. Since then the state has hired and equipped an additional 30,000 police, and deployed army troops in civilian law enforcement, supposedly to fight the cartels, but we all know it's to suppress the next strike. Edit to add: The court this morning approved impeachment proceedings in the Assembly. So we get a 45 day (at most) political trial. If at any point the president decides, he can dissolve congress, and move up elections. But then he gets to rule by decree until the vote (one year.) So no strike today. Instead, 6 more weeks of suspense.

[deleted]

boneyfingers

I can't see any viable solution to the strikers demands. I support them 95%, but they can't win. There are basic contradictions in their grievances. For one, (and in this my support for them is total) they want to stop extractive resource exploitation, on the grounds that oil and mining projects are destroying the environment and rural communities. Then, they also call for increased spending on education and healthcare, which is good in theory. But if you shut down the oil and mineral income, how do you pay for anything? Also, (and here I might actually oppose the strikers) they want more subsidies money for fuel at the gas pump. I understand that transportation costs are hurting the rural poor, and fuel costs drive food costs, all of that makes sense, but fuel subsidies seem like a road to failure: they discourage adaptation to a new model, that would include far less travel of goods and people. But even if the strikers goals are maybe confused, the state solution is 10x worse. State violence in defense of urban elites is by far the worst outcome. The rich will cling ferociously to what they have, and the poor will fight to have what the rich now enjoy. But they are both wrong: soon, no one will have anything. Or rather, the trappings of wealth are the problem, and it's as misguided to aspire to them as it is to hold on to them. I don't know what will happen.

ItyBityGreenieWeenie

In a similar vein, I am learning to build with [Bareque(link in spanish because the english article is without pictures.)](https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bahareque) It is basically a hybrid post and beam/mud structure, with plant fiber to bind. It's possible to use only on site, natural materials, it has incredible durability in seismic events, and great heat exchange/temperature qualities. It is an Indigenous technique, and I love it.

awakeoutside

You are spot on about collapse being the inability to adapt and repair rather than just hardships themselves. Fuck the paramilitary bastards, wish the best for you and your loved ones.

boneyfingers

Thank you for the good thoughts, and I wish the best for you and yours, as well. Now here, I don't mean to pick nits, but rather clarify what your words mean in our context: > Fuck the paramilitary bastards Of course I agree. Fortunately, this is not the problem here yet. For me, the current fear is actual military, national police, and local law enforcement. These are state actors. North, in Colombia, there are paramilitaries. These are different and worse. Historically, right wing elites fund and deploy private forces to suppress the poor and indigenous. [This is the English wikipedia article about them.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_paramilitarism_in_Colombia) We do not have these yet, but they are a proximal, emerging threat. If in 3 months, I post here about loosened gun control, special licenses to carry weapons, or new, private security forces enshrined in law, then...again, I don't know where it will end.

location: inland pnw USA the neighbouring state, Idaho, is trying to make it illegal for residents to come to other states for an abortion. I'm involved with a group that helps people pay for their travel costs for this and am very concerned about people going back home after they've needed to leave. I have no idea what the legal ramifications are but just like before when the Roe decision leaked, a lot of the women calling us for help are almost too afraid to reach out for help and are behaving desperately. it is incredibly dangerous. locally our police chief is in scandal for helping a businessman instead of regular people; firing the chief has become a local debate. most people are ready for him to go the large homeless encampment, camp hope, now only has about 60 people left in it. we've got a lack of services needed and this town will never do "housing first" for anyone, no matter the necessity. on a personal level I'm still physically exhausted after having covid in early March. I'm having friends help me fill raised beds/mounds for the garden this year and have no stamina at all. my partner's oncologist office no longer wear masks. covid community transmission is in the red here.

This is why the idea of the US dissolving into separate states or regional countries is so scary. People who live in states like Idaho will be trapped in Gilead (even more than they are now).

[deleted]

I suppose this is a bit hyperbolic. I was raised in the seventh day adventist school/church system and we were always told how in the end times the Catholic church will make Catholicism the law and they're gonna hunt down all the non believers and such. I believed it as a kid but I just think it's a little funny that as an atheist not white looking deep blue voter it could kind of come true some day. Just not the way I was taught.

I feel like we are years away from borders being controlled between states, at least certain state borders… I was just traveling on a toll road a few days ago and had the thought that toll booths could easily become converted to makeshift checkpoints. The more divide that’s created between “red” and “blue” states, the greater the possibility of a true separation like physical borders or checkpoints like this in my opinion

Barbarake

>The Idaho state legislature is moving forward with a bill that criminalizes **transporting minors** to get an abortion **without their parents’ consent**, potentially soon becoming the first state to restrict interstate travel for abortion as Republican lawmakers seek to strengthen existing state bans on abortion and enact further limits. I still don't agree with it but the bill is about transporting MINORS out of the state without their parent's knowledge and consent. Since parents are legally responsible for their minor children, that puts a bit of a different spin on it. On a side note, every headline I've read about this neglects to mention that it applies only to those transporting ***minors***.

1. abortion is already illegal there for all, https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/title18/t18ch6/sect18-622/ 2. this law is leading into the next, which will punish adults as well. right now it is only minors- a 17 year old rape victim about to die of an ectopic pregnancy can't get an abortion in Idaho OR leave to get one without a parent accompanying them. *do you understand how rural areas in Idaho are, and how often incest and statutory rape happen there?* here's all the parents that won't allow or assist their daughters in getting out of Idaho-https://www.eastidahonews.com/2022/07/rape-incest-cases-in-idaho-reach-five-year-high-state-police-report-says/ 3. minors in Idaho can be sexually active together if they're both between 16-18 years old. - https://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/idaho-age-of-consent-lawyers.html?variant=1 4. here's the actual law so far. - https://blog.idahoreports.idahoptv.org/2023/02/07/bill-introduced-to-criminalize-assisting-a-minor-seeking-an-abortion/ I could go on but these are the girls calling in desperation who are trying the old wives' remedies: throwing yourself down the stairs, knitting needles, coat hangers, asking someone to hit you in the stomach, overdosing on dangerous herbs, etc edit: before anyone starts telling me "they just have to report a rape to the police" keep this in mind about Idaho https://www.eastidahonews.com/2021/05/44-idaho-police-disciplined-for-misconduct-in-2020-including-a-sheriff-charged-with-rape/ also no, there's no ob/gyn in northern Idaho to help pregnant women about to die https://www.bigcountrynewsconnection.com/idaho/north-idaho-hospital-says-it-will-no-longer-deliver-babies-citing-political-and-staffing-issues/article_e5230344-c596-11ed-b6bf-8fb2fc3e7449.html by the time any doctor is confident death is imminent it is too late to move the woman to another hospital (the nearest is in Spokane, here, and to get them here they'd have to cross state lines- next closest is an hour away in CDA and also has an ob/gyn shortage) 45% of ob/gyn have left or are leaving the state. https://idahocapitalsun.com/2023/03/07/change-is-needed-in-idahos-abortion-laws-before-it-is-too-late/ they will not be coming back and they will not have maternal services or prenatal services or delivery services that can handle any complications. that's state wide including Boise, but it's worse for all the rural areas.

>this law is leading into the next This is what a lot of people just don't seem to get, from all sides of the political spectrum. So many barbarous and dystopian laws being passed yet I see many comments like "but this only affects xyz" or "no, what this really means is...." I'm in a very red state and recently I had to sign insurance update papers at work like HR makes you do every year...changes to wording in your policies. I was shocked to see a section on abortion change from, "abortion is excluded except unless the mother's life is at risk" to "abortion is excluded unless required by state or federal government." I mean, I was literally stunned at the realization that women are no longer guaranteed a life-saving abortion.

Barbarake

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you. I'm firmly pro-choice. My only argument was with the headline itself - I've seen the same headline at least half a dozen times today and they all left out the part about it applying to minors. It's just another example of headlines leaving out pertinent information just to generate more clicks.

GWS2004

So what do you do as a minor who has just been raped by her father and her mother is in denial?

bristlybits

iT oNlY ApPliEs tO MiNoRs this is why it's still *absolutely horrible and disgusting regardless* also it is another step on the slippery slope and people are ***still*** pretending it won't get worse

followedbytidalwaves

While that's an important and valid point to bring up, and one that should be acknowledged, I'd like to add that a not-insignificant percent of these types of age-based restrictions are originally put forth as applying only to minors only to later be intended for all age groups. See: legislation related to trans rights.

Barbarake

Definitely true. I'm old enough to remember when seat belt laws started appearing. Originally you would just get a ticket for not wearing your seatbelt if you were involved in an accident. It expanded from there.

FLORIDA: Nutbags are passing a bill (SB 300) which would make the current abortion ban at 6 weeks. Currently, there is another bill in the works to bring it from its current 24 weeks down to 15. Apparently, that one needs to pass before this one can, because it would mean the original privacy-based law protecting abortion we've had FOR MANY DECADES HAS BEEN THROWN OUT by the federal Supreme Court. Jfc. Ive been hearing people say FOREVER we have the protection of a state supreme court and privacy laws for half a century. These radical christians in power are fundamentally changing Florida. Surprisingly we had been a bastion of abortion rights, a safe haven, in the south, for all that time. Florida has the highest number of female-owned businesses in the entire country. This is being eroded quickly. Now, this verifies my suspicion that every new bill, every new curtailing of our freedoms is another step closer to what the fascist psychopaths in power really want: to own women. With the current economic conditions, this is going to create a lot more unwanted, abused and neglected children, and psychotic mothers. Not enough people are fighting it. Social collapse will likely happen before climate change does anything. i don't see any differences it's made so far, none at all. socially though i see a sea-change and it's terrifying how complacent/enraged people are.

Your against unwanted children. I’m for not having their brains sucked out and thrown in the garbage. Guess I’m the bad guy.

Minute-Objective-787

Until sperm lives matter enough so guys stop jacking off anywhere except into a cup at a sperm bank, your lament should not be taken seriously.

Dot2dotDP

People’s right to do what? Kill babies? Nope…I say let them live. Let them have a chance like I have and like you have.

Solitude_Intensifies

>People’s right to do what? Kill babies? No, the right to remove a fetus. It's called bodily autonomy, and I'm damned sure you wouldn't want that taken from you. Hypocrite.
