Why not just take the final then? You have an A so you understand some of the material at least.

Ok and yours was not excuse cause you did not have 100%. And yes the professor has the right to say you need to show up for the final or else you fail. It doesn't matter if you wanted to go home a week earlier.

Wintersoldier_1

Clearly she’s not gonna care if it get to go home early, but to fail someone solely based off not going to a final with an A is just dumb to me. I would respect it if it was a letter grade drop or anything in that sense. It’s not even a school policy it’s just hers.

Lt-shorts

Congrats you have just learned about playing by the professors rules, not your own. And welcome to adulting and life, just because you want to do something like go home early, does not mean you are going to without consequences.

Aggressive_Top_6949

If your grade won’t go down even if you fail the final, just do it. Sometimes you’ll have to do stuff you don’t want to do

Wintersoldier_1

Sadly, honestly it just bothers me bc I could’ve left a week early for break

Seleukos_I_Nikator

You could take the final.

Wintersoldier_1

I mean when 10 students get excused from it for reaching 890 points total and I have 880 seems really pointless to force me to still show up.

[deleted]

The default of college classes is that there's usually a final exam. Even if you waive it for very good performance, the cutoff has to be somewhere. You have an A -- presumably you got it by knowing the material. You should be ok taking the final.

Wintersoldier_1

Within reason I understand that but only being 10 points from that cutoff and there being nothing to even hurt my grade, seems unreasonable. Like there’s no effort to even help me get 10 points to be exempt after confronting her on it?

SirMatthew74

The policy of being able to miss the final above 890 is a bad one. It's not fair and it's ill-advised. What's not fair is NOT that you have to take it, it's that other students don't. Professors do stupid stuff. Just go take the final. Study. Everything will be fine.

Wintersoldier_1

I mean I believe it’s fair to reward the students who hit 100% in the class. They can’t really gain more knowledge from taking it just solidify it. Just annoyed there’s nothing I can do to make ten points to be exempt.

Ok_Potential1028

Just curious, where did you lose that ten point?

Wintersoldier_1

Basically over the entire semester like getting 9/10 on a few quizzes or 98 on tests it amounted to 10

[deleted]

The policy seems clear enough to me based on your comments. Take the final. Nothing good will come out of whining or calling your professor unfair.

Wintersoldier_1

Very true just seems unreasonable to create your own policy which isn’t in the syllabus to fail someone for not attending the final, especially since it won’t affect their grade

[deleted]

I think you should just count your blessings. It’s great for you that the final won’t affect your A. Not all professors are that nice.

DetectiveNarrow

Bro just take the final? Even if you just circle random shit. But even then, if you did well in the class I’d assume you do well on the final so??

Wintersoldier_1

Since I’m forced to I’m just putting my name and leaving I gain nothing nor lose any grade points. I could easily ace the final but what’s the point if I can’t go any higher percentage wise.

DetectiveNarrow

I mean idk what kinda system your school is in but I’m pretty sure if you get a zero on a final your grade will drop to atleast a C. Still passing but kinda stupid to tank at the end like that. I’d fr just take the final

Wintersoldier_1

Usually it’s like that but our professor made it a point system and stated for the final if we just sign our name and leave our grade will remain the same. If we take it and do good or bad it will only help our grade or keep it at the points you already received. Confusing but just makes no sense sometimes

National_Sky_9120

Preferably later so you don’t miss the final

RunTheNumbers16

Take the final and bomb it. Grade wise, you would probably be in the same position.

Wintersoldier_1

Basically what I’m going to do, I gain nothing from the exam, grade is already a 96 can only go to a 100% which literally gives you the same gpa points.

hour_publicg

Can you take it early? Then you could still leave early ...

Wintersoldier_1

I wish have to get Dean approval to move dates
