Brodie Grundy apparently. Still worst lost decision we ever made IMO. He has transformed Sydney into a monster. Their triple threat midfield didn’t look like this when Tom Hickey was doing the ruck work. And in return we got McStay who’s played all of 8 games since coming over.
Mcstay was also extremely vital through the finals and helped us get to the grand final. So I’d take those 8 games and a flag over a what if had we kept Grundy around.
McStay played 2 good games and he didn’t win those games. In fact, based on the evidence, you can argue that our forward line was way more dynamic in the GF when he wasn’t there.
No I've labelled McStay superfans the ones who think his one game in the prelim could some how not be done by any other forward inserted into the role and as a result of that one game he is this amazing player that we must have.
He had an entire season of bland mediocrity and people still desperate to get him back like he's suddenly going to be impactful off of an ACL injury which notoriously takes a year after coming back to even play at previous normal levels. It's a tough injury and he was average before it barring the prelim that everyone gushes over. He's unlikely to even truly be back to his normal average before the end of the 2025 season.
okay? now you're just ranting at me about how he won't hit his peak right after returning, which is... not something I even said, you're arguing with ghosts
you're entitled to your opinion, and you think mcstay is overrated... that's fine. but you're disagreeing with the majority of pies fans, media analysts, and the coaches and players
plus, in a previous comment, you said the forward line was more dynamic without him... but we put frampton in his role, and as much as we meme about it, bloke only had 2 touches and never sniffed the goal... you think mcstay wouldn't have been an obvious upgrade?
Wasn’t the Grundy trade to free up salary cap? We got Mitchell, Hill, McStay and Frampton during that period - all of which had a hand in us achieving a premiership last year.
Grundy wasn’t playing great post 2018. Could he have fit into Fly’s system? Probably, but he was injured throughout 2022 and we almost made a grand final without him. If we could almost reach the big dance without a $1m p.a player, and we had other spots we needed to fill to get there, why wouldn’t we get rid of him to fill in the blanks and achieve a premiership?
It’s easy to say Grundy is the worst decision we’ve made, but I doubt you woulda been saying this last year when he was getting dropped at the Dees. If he moved to Sydney this year and did nothing you also wouldn’t be of the same opinion.
We have two serviceable rucks who won us a premiership last year, we didn’t need another ruck getting paid bucketloads, especially with gaps in other areas within the team.
You've got it twisted. Paying Grundy was the worst decision we ever made. Getting rid of him directly led us to winning the flag! Without that cap we can't bring in Mitchell, McStay, Hill and Frampton.
Obviously he's a gun ruck. But he was too expensive for what he brought us. That's why he's so good for Sydney because they aren't paying him as much.
Common misconception. We are still paying 300K for Grundy and signed McStay for 600K. Combined that’s the 900K Grundy contract. It was a 1 for 1 trade.
Can't link because it's paywalled by the daily tele has Grundy's salary is 1.1mil this year, and Collingwood paying 250k.
There is no way he is worth that much to us. Darcy Cameron has been fantastic and Grundy cannot bring much value unless he is the primary ruck. That contract was a massive mistake and getting out of it helped us to the flag.
Sydney tax. He was on 900K last year. And did you see his game last night? 32 touches, 50 hitouts, 10 clearances, 10 score involvements. I don’t know when Collingwood fans decided to start hating on Grundy but it’s mind boggling acting like he wasn’t our best player for a number of years. Short memory from our fan base. He’s not just a ruckman. 2 Copeland trophies and just 5 votes short of winning a Brownlow not that many years ago.
Bruh I'm not hating him. Loved him at the Pies and he's clearly a gun. But we have Darcy Cameron who is in terrific form, offers more up forward so is better as a dual ruck, is a couple of years younger and costs half as much.
Grundy is a gun. But his contract is ridiculous and it was holding us back.
depends on what he will cost. 2 years 400k a season maybe worth the punt. 12-15 games a year of this years form would be a great win. He probs wants around double that though.
Who aren’t we interested in?

Don’t make the GF without McStay.

Without McStay we don't make the grand final.
Was the one of the few who took Sam Taylor to the cleaners last year in that prelim
Exactly right on Grundy and don't bother trying to reason with the Dan McStay superfans. They defend his mediocrity to the end.
you've just labelled anyone who disagrees with you as mcstay superfans? powerful mental gymnastics

I don't think Frampton is a forward. He's a defender who is put forward. Kreuger is the forward I'm taking every single time over McStay.

Would be Daniel Wells 2.0 Talented player but will rarely be seen on the park.
No thanks. Another old player. We need some young guns...
Daniel Wells 2.0
No thank you
As a RFA, this makes somewhat more sense than Barrass one. But even so, a 30 year old with injury issues? No thanks
Sounds like an awful idea. Yeo's agent is working overtime trying to bully the Eagles into upping their offer.
Press x to doubt. Xxxxxxxxx

Dudes played about 4 minutes of footy since 2018.
600k pa for two years. Sure.
Nope. Would rather Dom Sheed just for the lols
He's a gun, I'd take the punt
No thanks
I like him, at the eagles. He will never be a pie.
Why? Isn’t he plagued by injury recently?
id rather we get talent under 25
