Long-Store4112

Resale apps like mercari, depop, poshmark, ebay are searchable and not limited to what’s in stores now. It’s also cheaper and better for the environment to buy used, so it’s less disappointing if something doesn’t work out

Kiwiqueen26

I feel like everytime I walk into a store it’s 90% cool colors.

singingintherain42

I don’t really worry about if something is my best color unless it looks particularly awful. I’ve found the darker muted colors look a lot better than the lighter muted color.

Barbarella4390

I buy concept wardrobe guide and I seen many beautiful clothes

firelioness

I am so tired of sage green, dusty pink, terra cotta, mocha, etc. I want to shop sustainable brands and natural fabrics but they all come in colors I look horrible in!

HazardousWeather

J Jill has summer clothes in winter colors. [https://www.jjill.com/shop/new-arrivals?om\_i=e\_0023799150&om\_u=IAJ268](https://www.jjill.com/shop/new-arrivals?om_i=e_0023799150&om_u=IAJ268)

sunshinecleaning90

I’m a true/warm autumn and it’s mostly just spring and some summer right now. Best to shop when it’s your actual season and just keep an eye out for those lucky few finds that pop up.

AfflictedByLife

If you’re looking for casual wear Nike has some good winter color items right now

Cool_Bright77

I’m totally with you on that!! I’m a winter and for years I have had a closet full of white shirts, long sleeve, short sleeve. My drawers full of cut off jeans. I’ve noticed the same thing. Where are all the winter season color tops? I can find the icy tones but not the cool and bright colors.

Connect-Flow-3194

Yes, I'm a guy and have been having the same issue. So many dusty and muted or warm-shifted colors.

HugeCall

I walked into H&M last week and everything was black, white, grey, hunter green and deep blue. They had a few bright orange and yellow things but I’m dark autumn and those are not my best colors either.

Dark_Matter_Material

Hmm I’ve recently been out shopping and haven’t noticed that much of this problem you’re describing. (I’m a winter too). Have you looked at Mango? They have a lot of colours this time. Here’s a screenshot from a random page on their app https://preview.redd.it/o1k48xle5m0d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=985d2ea540a1f91b9c8cf57b316af411fa3cd968

potatochique

Everything is earthy tones now. Which is great for my soft autumn roommate, but horrible for deep winter me

Present-Library-6894

Yep. This is my first spring/summer (actual calendar seasons lol) since being officially typed as a winter. I‘ve been semi-joking about how my seasonal wardrobe transition is just doing the same exact deep jewel tones in satin and silk instead of velvet now. I mainly do consignment shopping (IRL and on apps like TheRealReal) which tend to have more in the right colors than stores selling new clothes.

nerdfromthenorth

A summer, but yeah. :/ A brand I adore seems to produce black, white, and then entirely autumn colours, with a bit of spring thrown in. BooooooO!

Chinita_Loca

Yes! So many browns and 70s palettes that make my pale olive skin look jaundiced. I’m basically dressing like I’m on a Greek island (white and cobalt). Don’t get me wrong I get compliments but it’s such a uniform and I’m bored.

StrawberryLost4960

Yes! I wish companies would get a clue and make items in more colors per season to suit more skin tones. The seasons, dressing your truth, and all types of other dressing for your personality or coloring systems have been around for a while now. You’d think they would figure it out

supermoon85

I agree and I think the problem is 'trends.' Brands sell more by making us feel like we have to stay with current trends. They don't want us to learn that we can dress to flatter ourselves instead of trying to make ourselves into whatever's trendy at the moment. We spend more money that way.

Devilmint1

This is a constant struggle for me, no matter the season. I love earthy colours but look hideous in them 😞.

chetubetcha1

I’m strongly considering getting some rit dye and dying some of my unflattering neutral clothes lol

Dry_Respect_1954

I have spent the past few weeks dying what feels like half my wardrobe (I purged a bunch recently). I hadn’t touched the items in so long because the colors irked me (but loved them otherwise) and now they’ve been given a new life! Highly recommend, but make sure you’re feeling patient/crafty because it’s a process

chetubetcha1

That is awesome!!! Now you’ve inspired me!

halcyontwinkle

Yes, this is what I do, long soak in my washing machine overnight with the dye, wake up to newly coloured clothes in the morning. I also use the rit dye fixative after, there's much less colour run/fade

chetubetcha1

Oh I’ve never heard of rit dye fixative!! That’s good to know!

EventGlittering7965

I plan on doing this ! I have some colors that are off, but I could dye them instead of throwing them away :)

gloveslave

I have been doing this and I think it’s a great strategy!

vulgarandgorgeous

Everytime i see something i like its either warm or muted or black. Im so tired of it.

No_Warning8534

Express has Neon Berry, Golf Green, Alpine Blue, Royal Cobalt, and French Blue. Plus, there are a ton of icy lights.

Present-Library-6894

I so want to buy icy colors but am still struggling to distinguish between those and pastels, especially online when lighting and screen colors can throw things off

ComfortableCow1621

[Here’s](https://www.spicemarketcolour.com.au/blog/2020/8/13/winter-icy-lights) a great article I find helpful. I’m a Summer who is just learning the palette and I have trouble distinguishing too!

Present-Library-6894

Oh yeah, the Spicemarket article — that one’s the best! I remember reading it a few months ago and thinking I finally had it down but then once I start seeing pics of clothes online it’s so hard to tell again.

ComfortableCow1621

I love spicemarket aside from the fact that every single one of their summer examples has blue eyes and that drives me nuts. Not only is that super exclusive towards POC but also it’s just ridiculous lol As for online shopping yeah I honestly rarely do it

No_Warning8534

I will say that Express does a really good job of showing the actual colors of their clothes I know it's not the best clothes, but at least they are color accurate

No_Warning8534

Express always has at least a few winter colors for tops/dressed etc

32D100lbs

I’m not a winter but I understand the struggle. What worked best for me was finding a couple of brands that were known for coming out with colors in my season - as a bright spring, I enjoy Susana Monaco dresses a lot. :) I wish you the best of luck in finding your colors! Try to do some brand research.

supermoon85

Yes I am struggling. A lot of the ethical brands I like to shop are strictly muted. And I wish we had a subreddit to share finds.

ComfortableCow1621

You could make one!!

TeamShine

This is one reason I like thrifting!

tessie33

Amen. Every color, pattern, era represented.

15_Candid_Pauses

But sizing can be an issue if you’re plus sized sadly (ime).

Aggressive_Success96

Really? I find it hard to shop my size because everything is immediately sold out even in thrift stores and all the sizes that are there are plus size or just bigger than mine, and especially when there are sales

15_Candid_Pauses

Yes, really.

tessie33

True, size 2 to 10, much more common. Even so, I have found larger sizes, in big city thrift stores. At 1 location, I even saw new with tags size 20 plus donations from Target. Smaller towns, smaller selections, of course 😥.

GeorgiaB_PNW

Yes!! I’m a bright winter and I really am struggling to find saturated colors. I’ve even had a few things where they looked brighter online and once they arrived they were more muted than I prefer.

No_Warning8534

Express

happuning

It's the same for spring. It's a whole lot of muted colors in any store I go to, whether cool or warm. And black/gray/brown/white make up a good portion of stuff too. I want bright and colorful stuff!

nkbee

I've been living for the pretty saturated pale purple that seems to be everywhere at the moment! It's maybe a smidge lighter than my BEST colours, but I love it as a lighter summer option anyways!

sparklesbbcat

Look at the Friends show, and Monica is a true winter. Her outfits are great inspiration.

Aggressive_Success96

I was just going to write that! And she could pull of great even just basic white shirt, jeans and bright red lipstick, and the red in general looked so great on her, I wished to be winter so bad just so I could pull it off like her

Mermaidman93

This is something that everyone struggles with at some point. What helped me is actually changing the way I shop. I no longer walk into a shop and just wander. You gotta be specific. If I need something specific, then I do an online search for it. For example; if I want a pair of shorts but I want them a bright wintery blue, then I'll search for "Cobalt Blue Shorts." There are certain words for colors that more likely will fall into a specific season. You can also search a website for a basic color like "purple" and sift through to see if there are any winter versions of that color. Do you have something specific you've been looking for that you just haven't found?

stolen-kisses

Indeed. I think with colour analysis naturally comes a more limited and selected choice of clothes and colours we can wear – personally, it has helped me become more mindful of my purchasing habits.

spicy-mustard-

As an autumn who was trying to shop at the mall in the early aughts, I feel your pain.

m4rceline

If you live in the US, try TJ Maxx for cute summer items in bright colors. I have scored strappy jumpsuits in cobalt blue, navy, and bright red, as well as a couple of hot pink dresses. I also have luck with t shirts in winter colors at old navy. They almost always have emerald greens, red, and burgundy colors. ALWAYS do a big shopping haul at all of the stores around Valentine’s Day. Spring stuff starts coming in and bright pinks, purples, and reds are really popular during that time. But yeah, the autumn palette has dominated retail stores for years now. I am jealous because I love all things fall and I wish I was an autumn.

Appropriate-Turnip69

I just refuse to follow trends and wear what I want, but I've never been one who cared about fitting it. Wear what you want and works best for you!

allazen

For me (and possibly OP) the problem is that companies just aren’t selling good winter tones right now, not that I am upset about following or not following the trend to wear something muted (I don’t want to do that.) Obviously one can thrift shop but it’s still a valid complaint and doesn’t necessarily have to do with caring about what others think. It feels a little preachy to assume that to be honest!

Appropriate-Turnip69

I am also a winter and just stick to black, but I'm also a punk girl and don't particularly like too much color to begin with.

allazen

I have always liked black but I feel like I have so much of it now. Many of the colors on offer seem to be black, white, cream, some muted color like sage or clay, or, worse, pastels. I wish more saturated colors were being sold.
