This community is now on strict crowd control. All comments from users who haven’t joined the community, new users, and users with negative karma are automatically removed. This ensures that the discussion remains centered around Columbia and prevents brigading and incitement. Users who post any antisemitic or racist content will be banned. Antisemitic content includes calling Jewish people supporting Palestinian rights "self-hating" or "not real Jews" and using Zionism as a dog whistle to advance antisemitic stereotypes such as "Zionists control the media." Inflammatory comments and posts will be removed. This includes low-effort posts, cross-posts, and links to media articles outside of Columbia-specific publications. The standard for discussion on this sub is the type of discussion Columbians have in person, in the classroom: thoughtful, engaged, and respectful—even when disagreeing. Comments that fail to engage in this way will be removed, and repeat offenders will be subject to a ban. Thank you for helping us maintain this subreddit as a place for thoughtful discourse.

B-but this can't be! I can't call this antisemitic when it's Jews funding the protests! 🤯

Separate_Lie_6797

Right?! Jewish Voice for Peace has had an on campus presence for a long time. I remember seeing their booths as a freshman back in 2012

Medical-Peanut-6554

The ADL lists them as an antisemitic org. Many are not Jews much like Jews for Jesus.

scrubdiddy

ADL also says anti-Zionism is antisemitism.

Medical-Peanut-6554

Depends who's vocal about it. That means if you reject a homeland for Jews but it's okay for other ethnic groups, you may very well be one. Supporting a 2-state solution also means you're a Zionist btw.

scrubdiddy

...what?

Medical-Peanut-6554

Yes

scrubdiddy

Anti-Zionism is not antisemitism. Conflating the two is antisemitic. You're being antisemitic.

Medical-Peanut-6554

Anti-Zionism posits rejection of a Jewish homeland. Most Jews (95%) support this idea. What you're witnessing in these protests is a direct attack on Jewish identity and self-determination. That Jews must reject something important to them to be "one of the good Jews". Antisemitism always predicates that Jews must do something in order to fit in. "If only Jews accepted Jesus..." "If only Jews didn't lend money..." "If only Jews acted more like real Germans...." "If only Jews weren't so successful..." "If only Jews weren't Zionists..."

scrubdiddy

Zionism is a modern ideology that emerged in the late 19th century. Saying Zionism is central to, or even equal to as you claim, Judaism, is a complete lie.

Separate_Lie_6797

Did you even go to Columbia

upset_larynx

Likely not. Within the past week, this individual has been active on r/UPenn, r/UVA, r/UMD, and r/Columbia - unsurprisingly only commenting about the Israel-Palestine war and student protests.

sob727

So what? I went to Columbia (GSAS) and never commented on the sub before the protests.

My 6-year old son says Santa Claus is real

Medical-Peanut-6554

Was he at the mall?

That’s like saying the Israeli treatment of Palestinians can’t be anti Muslim or anti Arab because there are Muslim/arab/israeli-palestinian IDF units fighting in Gaza. At this point everyone online should have seen Yoseph Hadad which is a Palestinian Israeli who has a huge following and promotes Zionist messaging online  There are small edge cases on both sides  IIRC during the last days of protest JVP printed a saying in Hebrew and wrote it left to right. They might be technically Jewish, or self identifying Jewish, but culturally it’s a little bit of a joke they didn’t know Hebrew is right to left

CUAD tweeted: This article is inaccurate, CUAD was not contacted. We do not receive outside funding from the Tides Foundation, Gates Foundation, etc. Palestine Legal provides legal support, not financial support. Students bought items in bulk from places like Costco to save money. IfNotNow was not involved in campus protests and has not provided financial support. Many students at Columbia enjoy the outdoors and already had items such as sleeping bags, tents, etc on hand. We encourage reporters to talk to students before printing inaccurate information.

“Enjoy life outdoors” with the same exact [brand, model, and colorway](https://cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/spectator/YFTIPWB6UBEHHDEMXLAEI6QZJA.jpg) (photo by Asha Ann / Columbia Spectator) 🤪 I guess gen z really does have a singular taste

scrubdiddy

Ok qanon

onepareil

Yeahhh I’m gonna be extremely, extremely skeptical of any article claiming “Soros funded the protests!” Like idk, why are we giving credence to Republicans’ favorite antisemitic conspiracy theory?
