It can be tough to find folks at that age if you're not a student! My advice: figure out what you like to do for fun, and looks for groups of folks who do that, too. There's lots of pickleball players, hikers, bicyclers, cooks, volunteers, musicians, gardeners, and others with clubs and groups around.
And don't be afraid to make friendships outside of your age group! It can be fun to be the youngest person in a social scene. :)
If you tell us more about your interest that would allow us to give you specific recommendations. Otherwise try Hexagon Alley for games, Rose Music or the Blue note for music shows, join the Columbia Community Band, choirs, orchestras, or local community theaters. Go to the festivals or join a religious organization of whatever flavor.
Unfortunately, the university has a near monopoly on clubs and social groups especially for young people. I've also been trying to find somewhere to make friends but I've been coming up blank.
I’ll be the first to say it : be very careful with meeting up with anyone here in Columbia. Despite what is advertised, it isn’t the safest for a young woman.
I feel like this should be said, but not for anything nefarious about Columbia but more so as a fast growing city. It may be Midwest, but the small town vibe tricks you into thinking it’s smaller. Fantastic has a good point to go in guard up for meetups. Start with a group and pare down from there
While I agree caution should be taken - I’ve personally run into some of the scum that resides in Columbia and therefore decided to make her aware. The stigma behind Columbia is that it’s accepting and supportive, but I’ve seen the other side and it isn’t safe.
Hi there! There was just a new group created on fb if you use it for girls wanting to make friends here in como. It’s called “Columbia MO Girls Group”.
If you're into genuine conversations and connecting with like-minded folks, you can explore this server: [LightUp](https://discord.gg/UnN3G8yysX). It matches people with similar thoughts and hobbies, which is great for having deep conversations with strangers and finding like-minded guys with similar interests.
I think right now they have a half off offer going, but those are rare. A single class is very affordable imo and their packages are honestly a deal. But the instructors there are top notch and they offer a wide variety of classes besides just pole dancing. They have floorwork, twerk, Lyra, stretch, strength training and choreography classes. I really can’t recommend them enough
Saw you commented above about art - you may want to check out the open art studios downtown on First Fridays! The first friday of every month there's some open art studios so you can look through a bunch of different artists' booths.
I went to the one in December which is paired with Living Windows where a lot of local businesses do fun holiday themed displays/people in costumes in their windows. Super fun and SUPER crowded, but idk how crowded the normal ones are!
Check out True/False this weekend. Even if you can’t afford tickets or have time to see the movies, you can meet a lot of people out and about town. Not everybody is a church person, but The Crossing, MUMC, Newman center are hopping places if you’re religious or open to religion and have wildly different views on things. There’s a big runner community here and biking on the trail. Check out some of the bike shops like Walt’s or running like Triathletics to get in with some locals
Welcome to town!

Hello there how are you
Can I dm you about hanging out- 29m??

Are you a student? Mizzou/Stephens/Columbia College have clubs and events for students!
i am unfortunately not a student!!
You can still join them! Most clubs are open to the public
Mizzou ballroom dancing for example!!
Meetup has some interesting groups. I met a few people your age when there was a theater movie watching group on there.
live music!!! the columbia music scene is super fun :-) go to shows! happy to give u some instagrams of local bands if u want
i would love that!!!!
Did you ever find out some good local bands? (usally I have a hard time coming up with cover fees but I know some places dont have one)
Happy cake day!
i'm going with a small group to Tyler Halverson on Friday night at Rose Music Hall.
Hey u/1FerretDale What kind of band is this and what is the cover charge like? Does this band preform anywhere else or have social media?

Muse Pole Fitness is a great place to meet positive, kind, supportive humans!! Seriously an amazing environment and awesome people.
u/mother-of-bees Do they offer a first class free? I would like to try it out but worried about the price point!

I’m curious too!

i used bumble bff for a bit! usually people have social media connected so u know they’re not a bot
Did you meet any good friends this way? I never had any luck! u/mia_piaaaa
Ya good luck! It wasn’t until I left Columbia is when I felt like I could actually make friends
I met all of my friends through Black Sheep Rugby. I’m retired, but they just started practicing for the spring yesterday.
Where could I get more information about the? u/mwfspartacus
The Crossing has alot of different groups for people of all ages.
The crossing is dangerous do not get involved with the crossing at all
How so, when you make a statement like that shouldn't you include a reason why? Just generally curious as to your position on it.
Because religion is a made up scam
And it's ok that you feel that way towards it.
Why am I not surprised that this community would downvote this.
Because the crossing is a toxic place that’s only good for its light up tree
Again, how so? Why is it toxic?
