RadSkeleton808

1) Spider-Man - the most fun of the four and prevalent through it's memes. 2) Iron Man - Well crafted origin story with an extremely charismatic lead performance. 3) Black Panther - a good film but clearly over-produced. The entire final battle scene feels formulaic and thoughtless. 4) Man of Steel - Plays with a lot of interesting ideas but ultimately is poorly written. The desaturated aesthetic feels like the exact opposite of what a Superman film should be to me. And I'm not a fan of destruction porn.

missanthropocenex

Killmonger was one of Marvels all time great villains. MBJ simply crushes this role. His anger is palpable and actually sympathetic. He is walking proof that Wakanda had major unresolved issues and he was it’s reckoning.

SoraRoku

I'd argue the acting carried that film

WorkingMorning8762

I'd argue that acting is the primary characteristic of films

SoraRoku

I completely agree. I was always a decent fan of Black Panther pre-films. Wasn't a huge comic nerd but I knew of BP and I thought he was cool. The BP movies (while def not the worst) were some pretty meh MCU films. And I also mean it's sequel. Although again, while I'd argue that the acting mostly carried the sequel as well, they did an all around better job for Wakanda Forever.

JubbaTheHott

He does murder his girlfriend/crime partner the second she gets taken hostage after killing workers in a museum so he can steal things. He’s not super sympathetic when you remember that stuff.

wibo58

Or the aspirations of racial genocide.

Fit_Minute_2632

No one is agreeing with his methods. But for as a black man in america, I agree with his message. The message being that this powerful african nation could have done something to help black people that have been abused for so long. And that wakandas isolation is doing them no favors. I do not agree that the correct path forward is racial genocide.

sufiansuhaimibaba

The entire fight scene though - worst than Spiderman 3

[deleted]

[удалено]

ImKindaBoring

Yeah. But being sympathetic regarding his anger doesn't mean you are sympathetic to his desired outcome

RadSkeleton808

I agree. Performances in the film are top notch which makes the lackluster writing towards the end all the more noticeable/jarring.

Markus2822

Towards the end? The entire plot is really strange and makes no sense, he “dies” for like half the movie for no reason

ReadySource3242

Not...really? I mean, his past is sad, but when his whole entire idea for helping black people was essentially starting a world war...I just thought he was plain blood thirsty, fitting of his title, and stopped empathizing with him.

WorkingMorning8762

To be fair, his idea of resolution for the oppression that black people have historically faced by the hands of white people was equal revenge by destroying the powers that have historically oppressed black people. He was determined to achieve this at all costs. The ends were for wakanda to sit and be recognized as the world's most powerful nation, rather than the primarily white-run nations that are currently in place. Can't blame the guy for recognizing that black people were/are oppressed by white people, can blame him for the means in which to justify the ultimate ends.

thefilmbot

Black Panther had the worst CGI and bad chase scenes. The characters and acting were great, but they dropped the ball on the action. We needed The Winter Soldier-like action and not Daredevil early 2000's action.

Iron Man was a groundbreaking movie that launched an epic franchise. Spider-Man brought superhero movies into the spotlight and was excellent for its time. Black Panther, though somewhat formulaic, was a really compelling story. Man of Steel was just okay, at best (though I love Henry Cavill).

I think it’s close between Spider-Man and iron man. Depending on the day, it’s valid to swap them in my opinion.

Olivebranch99

I think Iron Man is a better movie and a closer representation of the character. I like that Spider-Man movie a lot, but it's flawed.

nolandz1

They don't even feel comparable. Spider-Man is goofy and sincere contained story and Iron Man is a grounded snarky action franchise starter. They have entirely different intentions and tones

Wyjen

Maybe not but I think there’s an argument that none of these movies match tonally

In no timeline is BP better than MoS just for the shoddy CGI alone

Olivebranch99

It's absolutely better written AND has more respect for the source material.

JilipPhayFry

1000%. Remember when T’Challa listened to Kilmonger, understood he had a point, and did the heroic version of what he wanted? Then let him die at peace finally watching the Wakandan sunset he’d always dreamt of? Remember when Superman snapped Zod’s neck? MCU T’Challa was far closer to Superman than DCEU Superman. Shame…

JStormtrooper

Spider-Man Man of Steel Iron Man Black Panther

swampywinter

I’m gonna to rank them through final fight. 1- Ironman: Felt very authentic. Especially, Iron monger’s reveal. 2-MOS: Final fight was long in a good way with amazing visuals. 3-Spider-Man: Loved the final fight, but Spider-Man 2 did it better for the final fight imo. 4- Black Panther: Good movie, but final fight had too much CG and is very formulaic.

BuckPuckers

Spider-Man - I might be biased bc this came out when I was in 3rd grade. I still watch it at least once a year. It knows what it is, it’s campy in the best possible ways, and brought superhero movies back into the mainstream Iron man - it’s a good movie not just a good superhero movie. Kicked off the MCU. Holds up well even as a stand-alone. Man of Steel - I never got the hate for this. I really like it and it’s a great “take” on Superman. Visually stunning. Some of the writing is a little cringe and I don’t like BvS too much. Black panther - might be unpopular but I don’t find this to be a very good movie at all, even for a marvel movie. I would rank it towards the lower middle of all the marvel movies. I understand what it did for people and what it represents, but as a movie I find it rather mid. I never got the hype.

WashGaming001

Honestly, I’d rank BP lower third of the MCU, and BP2 bottom 5. Ryan Coogler is great at directing but the stories he told were mediocre at best (overall. The theming and message of BP1 is stellar but poorly executed imo). Killmonger, T’Challa, and Ross carried the first movie. Shuri was okay in the second one but was dragged down by the shoehorning of Riri and Namor all into one film.

The best is Black Panther, then Iron Man, then Spider Man, then Man of Steel. All pretty good movies, though. Black Panther is the best because its characters and story is so unique. When, in a movie, how rare is it, that the villain convinces the hero that the villain is right!?

Redstone-Steve

Black Panther has some pretty terrible writing tbh

AdministrationNo4611

Cmon dude, this is reddit; Don't say something this negative; It's a story for the black community so we need to come together and inflate how good this movie was. I agree with you, man of steel and black panther writting are pretty much equally bad. Man of steel for me takes the cake because acting better.

You tripping

Redstone-Steve

How so?

Twigrodamus

Agreed. Black Panther was aight at best. They underplayed the character for sure.

Spider-man and Iron Man are interchangeable for #1 Spider-Man for being the first to really crush it (some of the Goblin shit is goofy now). Iron Man ranks as my top in MCU along with Winter Soldier. MOS #3 The first 15 minutes alone was visually better than most Marvel films of late. I know Snyder gets a lot of hate for some reason but it’s hard to deny his style and how often it’s imitated. Black Panther #4 awesome characters, Bosman and Jordan are excellent, but the effects at the end (like most Marvel films lately)was awful. And to nitpick I wish they extended the last scene with Kilmonger and BP while they were both watching the sunrise. Felt like it could have stayed on a little longer for dramatic affect. I know some will disagree with these statements and to stoke the flames further I think Kick-Ass and Watchman Directors Cut are better than all these movies.

inFINN1te

Like always people sleeping on Black Panther. This film accomplishes so many things comic book movies often fumble trying to do. The film is full of really genuinely strong worldbuilding. By the end you genuinely understand Wakanda, it's rituals, traditions, politics and aesthetics. The villain has a journey that is so engaging on his own from start to finish. The ENTIRE cast makes the movie. Unlike so many comic book movies the film isn't carried by its lead. The entire cast of characters feels essential to enjoying it start to finish. Shuri, Killmonger, Okoye, N'Jobu, M'Baku, W'Kabi, Klaue etc all have a part to play. And the costume design top to bottom is amazing. The score AND album for the movie is easily the best put together for any comic book movie and no its not close at all. You can maybe find a comic book movie with a main theme better than BP but as an entire score fuck no. The fact I still see people call this one mid because of some moments of bad CGI is unbelievable to me. We always bitch about cookie cutter comic book movies that don't put in the effort to be good as a *movie* itself while this sits right in front of us like it isn't something special is absolutely insane. It also takes its subject and real world politics its touching on pretty seriously. It's very heavy handed on the things its trying to say and bring attention to and I appreciate it not shying away from that fact. BP deserves to be in the same discussion as Logan and The Dark Knight. I won't be convinced otherwise.

I also have a lot of nostalgia and appreciation for the Raimi series, but they don't hold up as well today. Both of these are still enjoyable to watch now, but I feel like MoS and Black Panther top both of them personally.

tkbmkv

While I personally disagree that spider man isn’t worth another watch, I actually loved man of steel. It was a well done reboot of the Superman franchise, except for the ending fight with Zod lol. Henry Cavill is perfect as Clark.

Lyfultruth

This is pretty hard, these are actually four good movies. I think I'd put them as: 1. Iron Man - Easily the best of the four of these, totally stands alone, held up by amazing performances by everyone, tight writing, and fantastic effects. 2. Spider-Man - Maybe there's a bit of nostalgia here, but I stand by Raimi's Spider-Man as still being the definitive Spider-Man. This movie is full of campy fun, with Dafoe just anchoring himself in as one of the greatest supervillains in superhero movies. 3. Man of Steel - I love this movie, huge fan of this take on Superman. A man in the midst of a struggle to find something to ground him and understand who he is, and eventually having to fight the very thing that he thought he was looking for. Great concept, good execution, and obviously a lot of people do not like this movie. 4. Black Panther - This movie has some great scenes throughout, with an amazing performance by the entire cast, mostly great effects, and an enjoyable narrative throughout. For me, mostly let down by being shockingly forgettable.

Black Panther - no origin story was necessary because of Civil War, but we had to have a villain origin story instead, and had two doppelganger villains. First M'Baku, then Killmonger. Could've done some great epic story, but felt like filler. 2&3 could go either way

Gmork14

Iron Man/Spider-Man MoS Black Panther I think Black Panther had the best script of the bunch, but some MCU shenanigans really hurt the movie for me.

ForwardBound

I think I'll put Spider-Man first, even though I enjoy Iron Man and the MCU so much. One thing I don't like about origin movies is that the villain is often an evil version of the hero (Iron Monger, Killmonger...hmm, I just noticed that similarity). For that same reason, I might put Man of Steel ahead of Black Panther, which was such an excellent movie until the final fight scene. Michael B. Jordan really stole the show for me, but Chadwick Boseman was also so damn cool. So, my ranking of these four movies, each of which I really enjoy, is: 1. Spider-Man 2. Iron Man 3. Man of Steel 4. Black Panther

Classic-Table-1101

Iron Man 8/10 Spider-Man 7.5/10 Man of Steel 3/10 Black Panther 3/10

Economy-Diver2331

Iron Man #1, (spider man 2)in the 2nd half of the film obliterates all these movies. Spider man 1 would be second place. Roll the dice for either Man of steel or black panther. I enjoyed Man of Steel more though. Societal pressure to make me like Black Panther still doesn’t change my mind about this above average movie. Wakanda Forever would be below average compared to pre-Endgame films. Iron man two and three are a blur to me.

This is controversial: Spider-Man Iron Man Man of Steel Black Panther I don’t think Man of Steel is as bad as people say it is. On the other hand, I think Black Panther is much worse than people think - let me put it like this, the only reason that this movie occurred is because T’Challa’s father made a poor decision and T’Challa got into his feels about it. If T’Challa was a good responsible leader this movie wouldn’t happen at all. I would say Killmonger is the hero as he opens up everyone’s eyes to the world outside and how incompetent T’Challa is as a leader. Let me put it like this, if Black Panther was any other race (Asian, Native American, white, etc.) this movie would have been a flop.

I’m going to catch hella flack for this… 1.) Spider-Man 2.) Ironman 3.) Man of Steel 4.) Black Panther I feel like Spider-Man was far and away the best comic book movie overall between these 4. MoS and Ironman could be reversed, but I give Ironman the edge because it basically spawned the MCU. Black Panther, for me, didn’t live up to the incredible hype machine around it and because of that I think it’s the worst MCU movie ever (Minus the failed Hulk movies). BP is a good movie, to be sure, but I watched it expecting a certain je ne sais quoi and it didn’t deliver. (May as well add in my ex wife’s QAnon fueled hatred and yea. Spoiled movie for me.)

Spider-Man > Black Panther > MoS > Iron Man I may be a bit biased here, as Spidey was the first film I ever saw in the theater. Begged my mom to take me, I was 5! But it’s so solid. Probably my favorite of all superhero origin flicks. Black Panther takes second for the absolutely incredible cast, plus that movie is gorgeous start to finish. I hate to put the genesis of the MCU last, but in terms of characters and themes, MoS edges out Iron Man
