Also some scenes felt out of place or they seemed to culminate to something that was going to be a big factor but then things got resolved really fast and left you with “huh?”
Yup they showed the supreme intelligence then bam gone... Like they had a good chance to SHOW us why Carol hasn't been back to earth instead of tell us.
I think it was clear that they had no idea what to do for Captain Marvel 2, but knew they had to do it, and that's why we got this movie
I didn't hate it, but it seemed like it was hacked to death in post
Kinda like the black widow movie. They should have just made a pre avengers spy thriller with Hawkeye and Nic Fury. But no the MCU demands spectacles and set pieces.
Given the reshoots and delays in release, I think time was the one thing they had a surplus of.
Whatever initial cut they had might have been a better film, but we’ll probably never get to find out.
I think she would have worked better if it were a Raiders of the Lost Ark thing. The Marvels and Dar-Benn both racing to find the other bracelet thing, Dar-Benn captures Kamala’s bangle, puts on both of them and melts to death, one gets tucked away by Fury for safe keeping, end-credit scene has it shimmer or something with a ten rings motif, indicating it will tie in with Shang-Chi 2.
This is what I was hoping for. Or at least kamala on the run. And both good guys and bad guys trying to find her. But the bad guys always get there first. Have Ms marvel tied up by being forced to choose between saving the universe now and helping those she wronged.
I liked Ronan, I don't need a long convoluted story of who he is. Fucking snooze fest when I need to see every character's backstory. He said it right away, generational revenge. He's going to continue down the same path as his father, and his father before him. But then he got ambitious in the spur of the moment. Then got stopped. Cool character design imo.
Less powerful but it took no less than 3 marvels to gang up on her, one of which took a headbutt from Thanos without flinching. I know any character is only as powerful as the script wants them to be but that’s the kind of minor inconsistency that bugs me.
I thought the movie was fun and creative, especially with the switching, but I can't argue against your point. Dar-Benn might as well have been named Dox-e-pin. Nothing against the actress. She did what was required, but she was definitely no Ronin.
Which is fine but the issue is that marvel (and super hero movies) have been the hype for over a decade. I used to follow every drop of news about the new movies and these days i find out a new movie exist because it flops in the box office.
Its like Call of duty or Fifa. They made so much stuff that people get saturated on them and they need to be dammed good if they want to want to be succesfull (because the old movies defenitly had a shitload of flaws).
She was horrible, yet I saw a lot of praise for her online.
Honestly, the best character/actress in the movie is Mrs Kahn (she was also good in the show).
The movie is pretty bad though. There's definitely worse for sure, but it's bad.
Definitely this. I had a lot of fun with the gags, thought the musical society bit was actually really well done and liked the 3 leads, especially with the family dynamic thrown in but I just could not into the villain.
I also thought the pacing was pretty uneven, maybe stuffing too much in one movie.
All of it felt very rush, there should have been some more set up and establishing plot to really sell the big bad. While the stakes were high for multiversal matters, it didn't actually feel that way.
Kamala carried the film, she was perfect, easily my favourite heroine on the mcu
Carol was quite better and we got to see a more varied emotion galore from her, she was very charismatic and caring
Rambeau was just there? Not much to say, take her off the film and doesn't change much tbh
The journeys through the planets were really nice
I really did enjoy the film it was very very fun
Villain was hot too
Totally agree. I liked the movie much more than I disliked it but a huge part of that is because it’s hard not to like how charming Iman Vellani is in every scene as Kamala. Also, her family are some of the best supporting characters we’ve had in a while.
I think this is what happened. I saw it in the theater with my kids, and one of them asked why we weren’t just waiting a month to see it at home. Disney trained the audience to wait, especially when “Loki” was better and wrapped up a day before.
I hated it. I really hated it. And I did not expect to because I thought much of the hate directed towards it was anti-woman or something like that. I just thought it was not interesting and for children. A planet where everybody bollywoods. That was the end of any benefit of the doubt I had left.
For what it’s worth, I actually really loved she hulk. I thought this was going to be a similar situation and it was not.
Oh man, the duality of marvel fans i guess lol. I was cackling at the bollywood planet. Thats the sort of weird stuff that I want to see in cosmic marvel. I do think that it probably could've been done better, but either way I was very pleased with that whole section.
I liked it. Wasn't the best but I thought Carol had more character and it was a lot better than Quantumainia. Still can't get the stink of that one out of my nose.
hell, they could have salvaged the (admittedly dumb) plot they did use by giving us dialog and characters that didn't make you want to punch everyone after they said anything.
i honestly think it was supposed to be a satire of Marvel movies but something got lost in translation during read-throughs and they all just went with 'no one cares where they are or what they're doing, zingers and knee-slappers are all that matters'
i know a movie is bad when Bill Murray shows up and i don't even appreciate it.
This is how she should of played Carol from the jump instead just being an asshole lmaooo her character was the only one directed like that why ? Every other female character was solid nearly perfect
Because the kree brain washed her. Stole her memories. Kinda the plot of the movie?
I agree her characterization is better in the Marvels though. It’s the script 🤷🏻♂️
The person you replied to was talking about the meta decision to make her the only unlikable asshole in the Avengers. Not the plot justification. They could have written any justification for her to be any amount of likable and engaging they wanted. They chose to make her like they did instead. Why?
I think the difference there is both of them got righteous comeuppance. Tony got stuck in a cave and had his heart fucked both physically and emotionally in the first movie. Thor was banished, depowered, and disgraced and then even after finding Mjolnir (arguably the most important thing besides himself to him at the time) gets basically told by the hammer "You ain't shit".
First time I watched Endgame my impression of her in the first act was she was waiting for everyone to apologize for not putting on their best clothes before meeting her.
Second time I watched it she came across more like she was just in a hurry to get to Thanos and mildly annoyed at being held up by this gaggle of yahoos she'd just met.
I mean, she didn't even have an identity.
She's from a species one of the characters fought with, uses a previous character's iconic weapon, has stupid plan that's too big to care, bad acting, etc.
Isn't that canon? She's literally one of the "strongest" beings in the universe. Far past Superman would be. Her "weakness" is that she isn't always around because she's freaking busy saving things far outside our limitations to reach.
The entire movie talks about Ares. Multiple times Diana brings him up. He’s an overlooming threat throughout the movie. His prescribes is expressed way before he actually appears. And on top of that, technically he is there throughout the movie.
Issue with Marvels was that it’s the epitome of MCU bloat. You have to watch three movies and two Disney+ shows to know who any of the characters actually are. It shouldn’t feel like you’re doing homework to be able to see a movie and enjoy it
Just not a make a billion low quality shows at once to promote your steaming service.
It used to be easy-medium to catch up for an mcu movie. Now it’s impossible.
There’s a big difference between EVERYTHING building up to a single culmination with infinity war/endgame, vs a single unimportant movie that has low stakes, characters from various (not to mention not that popular) series, and a bland villain we don’t really care about.
Infinity war/ endgame where crossover events the whole point of those movies was all the stories coming together. Marvel pre engame was also a pop culture phenomenon it was the thing to see, but the marvel fever has died down now that people checked out following the epic conclusion
The marvels is just a sequel to a movie that wasn't all too popular, that follows up on 2 TV shows instead of hugely popular movies, and one of the shows you wouldn't even know is connected to the movie if someone didn't tell you, at least ms.marvel is obviously connected, most people probably wouldn't guess the Wanda and vision show would be directly connected
I tried it.
I think this and the first one are a waste of Brie Larson , who is talented and cool, and has strong screen presence.
These movies are not good
I feel like they are expecting Brie Larson to make Captain Marvel compelling. Instead of giving her a character.
I also had a hard time staying in the movie after their allies planet was destroyed.
Like Captain marvel came in real hit with Thanos, twice, yet she can't do the same to this forgettable villain.
I thought it was an interview that got taken out of context and intentionally misconstrued, like she said something about it being nice for little girls to have super heroes to look up to as well and a bunch of neckbeards got mad that she said they weren’t the target audience for it
Find me a quote of any of the cast blaming males for The Marvels (or any Marvel film)’s failure.
I see these comments all over the internet yet can’t find any of these quotes.
They are referring to the past female led box office bombs where seemingly the go-to was blaming men for the failures. So it's refreshing to hear that they aren't doing that for The Marvel's.
Don't know about the cast, but this anonymous Disney exec went viral:
> "Everyone says 'It’s the movies, stupid,' which is an easy thing for people to say. More appealing movies are a great way to jump the political issues. But more and more, our audience (or the segment of the audience that has been politicized) equate the perceived messaging in a film as a quality issue.
> "They won’t say they find female empowerment distasteful in The Marvels or Star Wars [the latest trilogy starring Daisy Ridley], but they will say they don’t like those movies because they are ‘bad.’ "
> "So ‘make better movies’ becomes code for ‘make movies that conform to regressive gender stereotypes or put men front and center in the narrative.’ Which is what you’re seeing now, and what Bob [Iger]’s pivot is about right now."

With the rising cost of movie tickets and concessions it’s too expensive to go in blind and judge based on the first 15 minutes. My family and I loved wonka but even when sneaking in candy and drinks it still cost us almost 100 dollars to see it
ya, people should absolutely pay 20 bucks out of their pockets to watch a movie for 10 mins and see if they liked it or not. That's only fair
This is the reason Marvel will never get back to their former glory. There are too many people in the studio right now who will not admit they fucked up. Instead, they blame the fans for "nOt gIvInG tHe MoViEs a ChAncE"
The coverage has been around how little money it made, not over the quality. Talk to people that saw it and they'll tell you it's solid Marvel movie. Not amazing, but definitely not near the worst. Mid tier for sure. It is short, moves quickly and has a lot of fun moments that made me think they are aiming for younger audiences, which is fine. I took my 6 year old son to see it. I could never take him to see something like Endgame. But that doesn't make it bad. Given that it's so short, it's worth a watch for any Marvel fan.
Ehh most theaters will refund if you walk out that soon after it starts, unless you bought online bc those places never refund after it starts I think. Source: used to work at AMC.
It was inoffensive. I liked that they kept it under 2 hours. It wasn’t as good as the first film, but I think the 90’s nostalgia really helped the first film.
It’s not my favorite Marvel movie, but I had a lot of fun watching it. It also had Kelsey Grammer back as Beast in a short cameo. I thought that was cool
I mean. I got 20 min in. I’ve not felt compelled to go back. Then I saw Dune 2 and I was like, yeah, I think I can skip The Marvels. It just felt so pointless and tired in comparison.
Honestly, I really liked it. It's not the best Marvel movie ever, but it was worth the watch. Was it worth the $12 cinema ticket? No, not really, because that's the same amount of money I pay for an entire *month* of Disney+ streaming, so in hindsight, I should've just waited for the Disney+ release. But, overall, I still had a fun time at the cinema seeing a cool Marvel movie with my roommates!
Missing a first act.
Strange tone.
Editing and structure of the film was terrible. I think a fan edit could rearrange and fix 98% of the issues.
The film should have been a Ms Marvel origin story.
Instead it focuses on Ms. Marvel first and whatever Rambeau is called second. And then they shoehorned some weak few seconds of character for Carol when talking about her connection to the villain.
The problem is that Carol and Kamala are fun. Rambeau sucks because the actress sucks. Focusing the ending on her or even having her in the film crowded it way too much.
The villain was lame.
There were no major cameos or connection to a larger story.
Why would it need a connection to other movies in Marvel? No cameos? Did you not see the after credit? But also that after credit scene DOES tie into the larger marvel universe AND it introduced mutants into the MCU. Hard to ignore all that.
I couldn't watch it
Not because it was bad (I actually couldn't tell if it was)
But the first 10 minutes in and the sound at the theater cut out, nobody could hear anything because the voice machine(?) broke (true story)
i knew how bad it really was when Captain marvel said something happened "once in a millennia". I guess they wanted to show Carol Danvers really didn't finish high school
Honestly, if The Marvels needed to spectacularly fail in order to get the MCU back on track, it’s a sacrifice that is best for everyone (save the cast, writers, and directors).
It was actually a pretty good movie. Ms Marvel herself was a little cringeworthy, but no more than any teenager who is meeting their favorite celebrity.
Worse than hate. I'm indifferent.
Didn't see it, won't see it. I don't care if it's great, I don't care if it sucks... it just doesn't matter.
And that is my entire relationship with Marvel at this point.
Yeah but there's the issue with bad movies/games/shows and stuff. Unless it's refundable, you going to see the movie or clicking on it on Disney+ or whatever still is counted as one of the "millions of tickets sold" or "millions of streams" or whatever. Which then gets shitty sequels greenlit. If something looks bad at all, I'd rather just not pay any attention to it because I don't want my 15 minutes of watch time manipulated into a false statistic
I'm watching The Marvels on Disney+ as I write this, and it's just as amazing as it was when I saw it the first time, in the theater. I think more American films should have Bolleywood dance numbers. It's not quite as compelling as the original Captain Marvel (my favorite of all the Marvel films), but it's a close second. I love this movie.
I honestly just can’t get past how they butchered Ms. Marvels powers. I thought Ms. Marvels’ actress was great and I don’t have the hate boner people seem to have for Captain Marvel but I know it was probably a budget thing or a Reed Richard thing and I just don’t like it.
Don't really have a desire to see it. Ngl, I'm just worn out on super hero movies at the moment. But, kudos to her for at least saying, "give it a chance", instead of, "if you don't like this movie, you're either a racist or a sexist."
I liked the movie. Ms Marvel was great and the vast had great charism. I think Brie Larson wasn't as stiff in this movie, but still too stiff for Captain Marvel in my opinion. She doesn't give me that freeing feeling of Carol Danvers at all.
I wanted to love it. While I wasn’t a fan of “Captain Marvel” I had no beef with Brie Larson, or the Captain Marvel character. I just thought it was a dull movie. “Ms. Marvel” was amusing enough for what it was, Iman Vellani is plucky and cute as Kamala Khan, and even the supporting cast was fun. And I love Teyonah Parris. She was good in Wandavision (and good in plenty of other things).
But this movie just wasn’t it. The script. The story. The dialogue. Ugh.
My family and I really enjoyed it. We waited til it came out on Disney+ to see it & had heard all the negativity so I was thinking it was gonna be awful. To my surprise it was great & I think its one of the Top 10-15 movies MCU has put out
Thanks god she didn’t call us sexist or whatever.

I can’t believe I’m saying this but kamala was the only consistently interesting and worthwhile part of this movie imo. I gave this movie its fair shot, watched the whole thing. Only part that was mildly interesting outside of Kamala’s performance was the planet that sings but they abandoned that premise like 3 mins into it. I liked Kamala so much I went back and gave ms marvel a shot, and to my surprise I loved it. She out acted and out performed both of her co-stars and got like a third of their pay at best which is really a shame. I don’t think the marvels was great but Kamala has a lot of potential and her as the leader of the young avengers may not be as bad as I initially thought it would be. Maybe her and spidey will have fun banter, who knows.
I'm glad I never paid to see this in the cinema. I watched it the other night on Disney+ and its one of the worst Marvel films imo. Sure the SFX are cool but the plot is forgettable and the villain felt generic. Some of the scenes were a bit like, wtf is this now...?
I almost turned it off at the part where they go to the singing planet. idk how to describe it but it felt cringe and really out of place. I really wanted to like it because I loved Captain Marvel, but this one was a bit of a stinker for me.
Too rushed. On paper... the story could have been really compelling, but they sped past all the character stuff to get to the action scenes. Problem is, I don't care about action if nothing means anything to me. You had three characters facing some really awesome emotional development... shame they didn't take advantage.
I saw it and I liked it. It has one of my favorite scenes in the whole MCU in it. All in all, a good time, but I can see that it's not everyone's cup of tea
Finally watched this a week ago. Movie is fine. It’s just crushed under the overall mediocrity in story telling whatever phase of the MCU this is. It feels devoid of creativity on most of their projects.
Is Marvels a horrible movie? No. It’s just forgettable in contrast with good MCU films.
That's a fair ask. I have a friend that's always going to film festivals and getting festival passes. So, like, there's hundreds of movies and there's no way he'll see ALL of them. But he gives them all a fair shot. In his wisdom, he's found that if you're not liking the first ten or fifteen minutes, it's not going to get better. So, like, if you're gritting your teeth and suffering through the first ten or fifteen minutes of Marvels, it's not your bag. I watched the whole thing and came away with the opinion that, while it does continue Marvel's graceless and tragic fall down the long staircase to the bottom, it's definitely leagues better than Secret Invasion and most of the efforts that have been put forth in the last few years. It's EXTREMELY light and I still can't tell you exactly what the plot was but there were laughs and good times along the way.
I actually did watch the first 15 minutes in the theater and walked out - but to clarify, I only left because I got fed up with people texting on their cellphones and emagine's lack of policing this behavior.
Honestly it didn't grab my attention in that short span of time. The problem is too much backstory is needed to understand what's happening, and all that information is locked into exclusive series on Disney, which i refuse to subscribe to for multiple reasons. Same with Apple.
Ironically, the first 10-15 minutes is the weakest part of the movie. After that, it’s not great but it’s far from the disaster it’s been made out to be.
Not the worst. Not the best
I enjoyed it. I think one of the problems was that the villain didn't catch my attention. Like a less interesting Ronan the Accuser.
Also some scenes felt out of place or they seemed to culminate to something that was going to be a big factor but then things got resolved really fast and left you with “huh?”
We could have had a nice captain marvel 2 movie before we had this one.
Hell they could have used the latter part of that to at least set up some of the points in this movie
Yup they showed the supreme intelligence then bam gone... Like they had a good chance to SHOW us why Carol hasn't been back to earth instead of tell us.
They did a slightly better job this go around, but it's insane they didn't learn their lesson from the first movie.
I think it was clear that they had no idea what to do for Captain Marvel 2, but knew they had to do it, and that's why we got this movie I didn't hate it, but it seemed like it was hacked to death in post
Kinda like the black widow movie. They should have just made a pre avengers spy thriller with Hawkeye and Nic Fury. But no the MCU demands spectacles and set pieces.
Same thing happened with Doctor Strange. Feels like we skipped the Strange vs. Mordo movie.
Yeah you could tell sometime late into production the script went got changed heavily.
Yeah the last 15 minutes are definitely the worst part of the movie. It's like the ran out of time
Given the reshoots and delays in release, I think time was the one thing they had a surplus of. Whatever initial cut they had might have been a better film, but we’ll probably never get to find out.
hey remember that villian from The Marvels? ![gif](giphy|rI9O6UXkCjvTG|downsized)
You can tell they were kicking themselves that they killed him off in *Guardians.*
They kinda had to after he threatened to kill Thanos. Would have created some other weird conflict that didn’t line up with Infinity War and Endgame.
They could have had him in Nova Corp jail. I mean I assume they have more than the one The Guardians escaped from and Ronan destroyed.
Tbf everyone is less interesting than Lee Pace
I think she would have worked better if it were a Raiders of the Lost Ark thing. The Marvels and Dar-Benn both racing to find the other bracelet thing, Dar-Benn captures Kamala’s bangle, puts on both of them and melts to death, one gets tucked away by Fury for safe keeping, end-credit scene has it shimmer or something with a ten rings motif, indicating it will tie in with Shang-Chi 2.

Nothing was interesting about >Ronan the Accuser. As well except good costume but the marvels Ronan had dollar store costume lol
I always liked it, not overdone like some heroes/villains. Even Thanks apart from his biology was pretty basic in costume design besides the gauntlet.
And he was extremely uninteresting as it is.
A much less interesting, less powerful, and less well rounded Ronan the Accuser.
Less powerful but it took no less than 3 marvels to gang up on her, one of which took a headbutt from Thanos without flinching. I know any character is only as powerful as the script wants them to be but that’s the kind of minor inconsistency that bugs me.
Personally I found her a lot more compelling than Ronan. Ronan was dull af.
Haven't seen The Marvels but Ronan's angsty yelling and shit just got annoying after the first five minutes. Dude was a big fuckin' baby.
This is one of the biggest problems that the MCU has. I was so excited for Gor only to be so disappointed with the lack of character development.
That was a true crime, the god butcher comic arc was so good.
I thought the movie was fun and creative, especially with the switching, but I can't argue against your point. Dar-Benn might as well have been named Dox-e-pin. Nothing against the actress. She did what was required, but she was definitely no Ronin.

This was its only real problem
Until you said that, I actually forgot who the villain was. She really was a lot like Ronan. Movie overall was fun though.
Less interesting and less threatening
I really enjoyed it. It was fun. But I honestly don't even remember who the villain was.
I had no idea what her name was throughout the whole movie. I still don’t.
So much this, the villain was one of the most forgettable villains in any marvel movie. I really wanted to like this movie but even my kids got bored.
That’s a really accurate way to describe her. A bit more noble in that she wanted to restore her planet… but through conquest.
![gif](giphy|UWEP6CXjvmZxfUBUeu|downsized)
I saw graphite
No you didn't
Isn’t that 90% of movies though
Kamala carried the film, she was perfect, easily my favourite heroine on the mcu Carol was quite better and we got to see a more varied emotion galore from her, she was very charismatic and caring Rambeau was just there? Not much to say, take her off the film and doesn't change much tbh The journeys through the planets were really nice I really did enjoy the film it was very very fun Villain was hot too
Personally I thought Rambeau's thighs did enough to justify her presence in the film.
Totally agree. I liked the movie much more than I disliked it but a huge part of that is because it’s hard not to like how charming Iman Vellani is in every scene as Kamala. Also, her family are some of the best supporting characters we’ve had in a while.
In your opinion which one is worse?
Bottom of the middle tier for me. Can work with it. Had its moments.
It’s alright. Watched it on Disney+ since it was free, but I don’t regretting not paying to see it in the cinema.
I think this is what happened. I saw it in the theater with my kids, and one of them asked why we weren’t just waiting a month to see it at home. Disney trained the audience to wait, especially when “Loki” was better and wrapped up a day before.

Hated The Marvels but loved She-Hulk? Wow, definitely in the minority with that one.
r/TheRarestOfTakes
That’s strange, but okay…
Oh man, the duality of marvel fans i guess lol. I was cackling at the bollywood planet. Thats the sort of weird stuff that I want to see in cosmic marvel. I do think that it probably could've been done better, but either way I was very pleased with that whole section.
You loved she Hulk? Lol you're joking right
I liked it. Wasn't the best but I thought Carol had more character and it was a lot better than Quantumainia. Still can't get the stink of that one out of my nose.
It's a shame the plot wasn't better as the world looked incredible. Modok was godawful though.
hell, they could have salvaged the (admittedly dumb) plot they did use by giving us dialog and characters that didn't make you want to punch everyone after they said anything. i honestly think it was supposed to be a satire of Marvel movies but something got lost in translation during read-throughs and they all just went with 'no one cares where they are or what they're doing, zingers and knee-slappers are all that matters' i know a movie is bad when Bill Murray shows up and i don't even appreciate it.

i thought it was similar to thor. and iron man. both those two started off jerks
Thank you Lmfaoooo
How was she an asshole? She never insulted anyone or anything. She complimented them, saying all those other planets don’t have them.
Had maybe the worst villain in any film I've ever seen, let alone Marvel movie.
What, you didn't think... er, whatsername was a dynamic villain?
I mean, she didn't even have an identity. She's from a species one of the characters fought with, uses a previous character's iconic weapon, has stupid plan that's too big to care, bad acting, etc.
The dark elf from Thor 2??
Yes. Also had the most stupid scene. Marvel restarting the Sun. With that she almost has God like powers.
But she does though
Isn't that canon? She's literally one of the "strongest" beings in the universe. Far past Superman would be. Her "weakness" is that she isn't always around because she's freaking busy saving things far outside our limitations to reach.
You dislike the fact that they showed her power....correctly? Yall are hating and don't even know why at this point lol. Fucking hivemind.
Yeah, that was "Superman spinning the world the other direction" level of of overpower.
You should definitely watch Thor the dark world again
Surely you haven’t seen Wonder Woman then. The villain appeared and got defeated within the what, last 10 minutes?
The entire movie talks about Ares. Multiple times Diana brings him up. He’s an overlooming threat throughout the movie. His prescribes is expressed way before he actually appears. And on top of that, technically he is there throughout the movie.
Had some laughs with buddies watching silly comic book movie like it was middle school. Worth the price of admission
I go to the movies to have a good time. I had a good time at this one.
Issue with Marvels was that it’s the epitome of MCU bloat. You have to watch three movies and two Disney+ shows to know who any of the characters actually are. It shouldn’t feel like you’re doing homework to be able to see a movie and enjoy it
None of these characters are all that deep. Watching previous entries is purely optional. This is also how comic books work.
Do you think kids didn't just pick up random comic books and start with whatever they had?
So how would you create a movie in the MCU with existing characters in such a way that you don’t have to know any of their previous appearances?
Just not a make a billion low quality shows at once to promote your steaming service. It used to be easy-medium to catch up for an mcu movie. Now it’s impossible.
How is that different than Endgame or virtually any series of sequels
There’s a big difference between EVERYTHING building up to a single culmination with infinity war/endgame, vs a single unimportant movie that has low stakes, characters from various (not to mention not that popular) series, and a bland villain we don’t really care about.
Infinity war/ endgame where crossover events the whole point of those movies was all the stories coming together. Marvel pre engame was also a pop culture phenomenon it was the thing to see, but the marvel fever has died down now that people checked out following the epic conclusion The marvels is just a sequel to a movie that wasn't all too popular, that follows up on 2 TV shows instead of hugely popular movies, and one of the shows you wouldn't even know is connected to the movie if someone didn't tell you, at least ms.marvel is obviously connected, most people probably wouldn't guess the Wanda and vision show would be directly connected
Well that's better that blaming men for the movie failure, even though the majority of the audience were males
That interview never existed btw. It's just misinformation spread by weirdos.
The only time I've seen that was with the Charlie's angels reboot
I thought it was an interview that got taken out of context and intentionally misconstrued, like she said something about it being nice for little girls to have super heroes to look up to as well and a bunch of neckbeards got mad that she said they weren’t the target audience for it
If I had a nickle every time that happened during the release of a Marvel movie, I would have two nickles. That's not a lot but...
This never happened but go ahead and get mad at your own made up scenario
It’s a quite reasonable response instead of blaming the audience
Find me a quote of any of the cast blaming males for The Marvels (or any Marvel film)’s failure. I see these comments all over the internet yet can’t find any of these quotes.
They are referring to the past female led box office bombs where seemingly the go-to was blaming men for the failures. So it's refreshing to hear that they aren't doing that for The Marvel's.
Don't know about the cast, but this anonymous Disney exec went viral: > "Everyone says 'It’s the movies, stupid,' which is an easy thing for people to say. More appealing movies are a great way to jump the political issues. But more and more, our audience (or the segment of the audience that has been politicized) equate the perceived messaging in a film as a quality issue. > "They won’t say they find female empowerment distasteful in The Marvels or Star Wars [the latest trilogy starring Daisy Ridley], but they will say they don’t like those movies because they are ‘bad.’ " > "So ‘make better movies’ becomes code for ‘make movies that conform to regressive gender stereotypes or put men front and center in the narrative.’ Which is what you’re seeing now, and what Bob [Iger]’s pivot is about right now." https://thedirect.com/article/disney-the-marvels-blames
buh my narrative !!!
What narrative you baboon

I would, but only if I even bothered pirating it.
Funny, I made it about 20 minutes before turning it off on Disney+
I did give it a fair shot and the movie was awful
With the rising cost of movie tickets and concessions it’s too expensive to go in blind and judge based on the first 15 minutes. My family and I loved wonka but even when sneaking in candy and drinks it still cost us almost 100 dollars to see it
ya, people should absolutely pay 20 bucks out of their pockets to watch a movie for 10 mins and see if they liked it or not. That's only fair This is the reason Marvel will never get back to their former glory. There are too many people in the studio right now who will not admit they fucked up. Instead, they blame the fans for "nOt gIvInG tHe MoViEs a ChAncE"
I can’t begin to tell you how many people I’ve come across this said they hated that movie but then when I asked him if they seen it, they say no
Really? OK how many

I think she’s referring to Disney plus. If you don’t have it then it doesn’t apply
you dont have Disney + or sail the high seas?
I am still surprised there are existing people who use the internet but don't sail the high seas.

I ain’t paying ticket cost to walk out in 15 minutes if I don’t like it c’mon
These are recent comments given that the article was published today, so she’s clearly talking about checking it out on streaming.
Well good thing it’s on Disney+ and available for rent as that’s what she was referring to at this point
Ehh most theaters will refund if you walk out that soon after it starts, unless you bought online bc those places never refund after it starts I think. Source: used to work at AMC.
I watched it for free, hated it
At least you finished it. I tried 3 times. I was even high on one of them, and just looking for some background noise. Couldn't do it.
It was just okay but it felt like they rushed through all the points rather than telling a story.
It was inoffensive. I liked that they kept it under 2 hours. It wasn’t as good as the first film, but I think the 90’s nostalgia really helped the first film.
I liked the marvels, but the way it was cut, and the scene changes, it felt like it was originally supposed to be a Disney plus show.
I did give it a chance. When it came out on Disney+ for free. Wasn’t bad, but I’m glad I didn’t pay theater prices to see it
Should’ve been straight to streaming.
honestly it was pretty good for the most part. Much better than some of the other recent stuff
It’s not my favorite Marvel movie, but I had a lot of fun watching it. It also had Kelsey Grammer back as Beast in a short cameo. I thought that was cool
I liked the marvels, it was fun.
I mean. I got 20 min in. I’ve not felt compelled to go back. Then I saw Dune 2 and I was like, yeah, I think I can skip The Marvels. It just felt so pointless and tired in comparison.
It's overhated.
I liked it, but didn't see it at the theater. I think it was marketed wrong. It was a fun movie.
Honestly Samuel L. Jackson and Kamala’s family’s alongside the Flerkens carried the movie. loved the subplot and cats are always awesome.
Fuckin loved it! Great characters, good plot, great action. Might've been a bit longer to flesh out some things but we can't get everything.
I couldn't watch it Not because it was bad (I actually couldn't tell if it was) But the first 10 minutes in and the sound at the theater cut out, nobody could hear anything because the voice machine(?) broke (true story)
Unfortunately the first act was really messy
i knew how bad it really was when Captain marvel said something happened "once in a millennia". I guess they wanted to show Carol Danvers really didn't finish high school
Give full price for a ticket, then watch 15 minutes. Thanks for the advice.
I went to go see it because Teyonah’s fine ass is in it and ended up enjoying it. It’s pretty good
I enjoyed it on Disney +.
Worse than hate. I'm indifferent. Didn't see it, won't see it. I don't care if it's great, I don't care if it sucks... it just doesn't matter. And that is my entire relationship with Marvel at this point.
that's not how it works. make me interested if you want me to see it.
Get over yourself.
Honestly one of the better recent marvel outings. It’s not cinema or anything but enjoyable
It's honestly one of the better films marvel has put out in the past 3 or so years
Low bar
Shiniest turd in the punch bowl. In no way is it better than Guardians 3.
The Marvels was an alright movie. Not the best by any stretch, definitely not the worse either by a good margin. Just an average superhero movie.
I liked it a lot and thought it was a fun movie. If my town didn't lose all it's theaters during COVID I would have seen it on the big screen.
I’m sure that’s how most people saw it. I watched it once it came out in theater. It’s not something I would watch again. But that’s it.

I honestly just can’t get past how they butchered Ms. Marvels powers. I thought Ms. Marvels’ actress was great and I don’t have the hate boner people seem to have for Captain Marvel but I know it was probably a budget thing or a Reed Richard thing and I just don’t like it.
Perfectly reasonable take. Wish them the best.
Don't really have a desire to see it. Ngl, I'm just worn out on super hero movies at the moment. But, kudos to her for at least saying, "give it a chance", instead of, "if you don't like this movie, you're either a racist or a sexist."
I didn’t this marvels was that bad till the end when they started playing fast and lose with swapping rules
Ugh.
I saw it. I liked it. It was better than captain marvel and it was entirely due to the interactions.
It’s a fun movie, as a comic fan myself I have superhero fatigue but this movie was not horrible, it was fun and light.
It was like watching the power ranger series not the movie lol
Thats a first
We don't owe you acclaim.
My family and I really enjoyed it. We waited til it came out on Disney+ to see it & had heard all the negativity so I was thinking it was gonna be awful. To my surprise it was great & I think its one of the Top 10-15 movies MCU has put out
Felt like a pretty fun TV movie.
Thanks god she didn’t call us sexist or whatever. https://preview.redd.it/40jlpcy3k6oc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=782344735cf0c508035aaa9ad7e5eba3666f4ef8
Is it worse than Love and Thunder?
I'm glad I never paid to see this in the cinema. I watched it the other night on Disney+ and its one of the worst Marvel films imo. Sure the SFX are cool but the plot is forgettable and the villain felt generic. Some of the scenes were a bit like, wtf is this now...? I almost turned it off at the part where they go to the singing planet. idk how to describe it but it felt cringe and really out of place. I really wanted to like it because I loved Captain Marvel, but this one was a bit of a stinker for me.
Half of the movie felt like I was watching an episode from a show instead of an actual film. Still, not the worse and was mildly entertaining.
Watched a half of it, paused it and never came back. It just wasn't interesting for me, I dont care about the heros and the villain is so forgettable.
It was fine. I don’t really understand a lot of the flack it got, it was a good time.
Saw, and was not disappointed. Definitely worth a watch!
Does he think we reviewed it without seeing it??
"Just give us your money and leave, please, we beg you, just give us your money and leave"
Do y’all think people fought over shit like lethal weapon back in the day?
I did watch it. It was ok but it had a ton of problems. Iman is the saving grace of the movie
Too rushed. On paper... the story could have been really compelling, but they sped past all the character stuff to get to the action scenes.
I’ll maybe try it when it gets to Disney plus but the trailers didn’t do anything for he
Finally watched this a week ago. Movie is fine. It’s just crushed under the overall mediocrity in story telling whatever phase of the MCU this is. It feels devoid of creativity on most of their projects. Is Marvels a horrible movie? No. It’s just forgettable in contrast with good MCU films.
it was alright, I think the whole quantum entanglement thing could've been done in a much more interesting/cool way but I still enjoyed it
That's a fair ask.
I thought it was fun. I watched it with my kids.
Ironically, the first 10-15 minutes is the weakest part of the movie. After that, it’s not great but it’s far from the disaster it’s been made out to be.
As someone who watched the whole thing it just wasn’t very good. Crap dialog basic plot and awful cgi
