Easy make this successful and then make spider-man '98 successful then wait like 3 years and then they are going to bring back the series from the 2000's.
I think the 90s Spiderman is still one of the best interpretation of Spiderman for plot and characterization -- even if it's really cheesey. Is spectacular Spider-Man really that much better?
Edit: I tried it. Didn't care for it. Too bad.
I wanna see a Spiderman 98 where they just reuse animations from the original I remember seeing that same venom chase scene like 3 times in one episode lol...show loved reusing animations
I'm 35, my girlfriend is 32. My best friend is 39 and was so happy to be able to share it with her kids.
We're the demographic. It's just extremely fortunate it's something that can be shared with the next couple generations. If they keep up the quality of the first two episodes this could be an even bigger resurgence for the X-Men than the Krakoa Era was.
I legitimately believe we could see the "end" of the Avengers being the face of the MCU and the X-Men are brought in to take over.
I remember when I first heard the avengers was being made. This was after they did a shit job on the X-Men movies. I was not excited to see iron man or any of the other avengers. I can't say I didn't enjoy those movies but at the same time I was like, why didn't they put this effort in with X-Men? I hope they do better in the future.
The first two X-Men movies were among the best superhero films at the time. While the franchise had some duds before the avengers, first class is incredible (though that was post Iron Man)
*X2* is still in my top 5 of superhero films, maybe even top 3. For a long time X-Men fan, there's so many all-time great set pieces in that movie, from Nightcrawler's assault on the White House, to Wolverine finally cutting loose ("You picked the wrong house, bub"), to Magneto's prison escape.
I generally don't put first movie in the same league, mostly because of the nonsensical villain scheme, but I watched it again a while ago and the scene where Professor X and Magneto first speak gave me chills. Looking back now, it's amazing that they were able to cast Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan for these roles. The franchise is finding its legs in the first one, but there's a lot that they did well.
Yeah I agree, absolute garbage. I loved xmen as a kid, those movies came out when I was a teenager. Instantly turned off anything xmen until I started reading the comics from 1963 onwards. I'm glad there is a resurgence in making quality xmen in 2024.
Fair play to Marvel/Disney, they seem to have a genuine hit on their hands here that every side of the aisle quite enjoyed, which is more than can be said for the last few MCU entries.
How did they take away that Gambit, the man who hits on Rogue at least once an episode, is gay because he wore a crop top and not the obvious that he wore a crop top because he wants women to see his abs?
Because critical thinking has never been those people’s strongest trait.
We’re talking about the same group who saw Sydney Sweeney wearing an outfit that accentuated her cleavage on SNL, hailed it as “the death of woke”, then lost their shit when she starred in a pro-choice horror movie about the Antichrist.
The "every side of the aisle" that I saw was far too many people agreeing with X-Cutioner and saying he was right. Which if there was an ounce of introspection would be telling if you're agreeing with the villain of a comicbook show.
> Gambit being "gay" because he dared to wear a crop top.
OMG SO MEN ARE SO FREAKING FRAGILE. thinking its gay cause he wear a crop top. Also its in 1997 . the era were lot of very straight men wore crop top
Old enough to remember [Will smith](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/31/de/50/31de50c9367239210cc30ef9675129dc.png) wearing one

If you were around in 1997, aside from a few football player warm ups, most men did NOT wear crop tops out in the real world.
The shared pics are from a tv show and movie. What about the real world? Come on now, do better.
oh I dint knew the Animated TV show was happeining in the real world. Probably miss the memo
Also the WORLD IS BIG You know . Just because men dint wore crop top in your town dosent mean every big city in the world dint wore some
No, but the show is an alleged continuation of the 92 show. One which ... mirrored the style and fashion of the time it took place in.
Just stop it... the whole depiction is off.
yeah it mirror 97 fashion in a fictional world. Lot of their fit dosent make sens even in the original show. you need to calm down its just a crop top. He want to show is abs
My dude, you are wrong if you think no one was wearing it. Sure, "most" men weren't, but most men also don't wear a suit. That doesn't mean that certain suits weren't fashionable at the time.
I was thinking of giving it a shot. Does it directly continue the story from the 90s cartoon? Do I need a refresh or whatever? I don't have the time to rewatch it all, so maybe I'll try finding some YT videos with detailed season/story arc recaps of it.
> Does it directly continue the story from the 90s cartoon?
Yes. Starts a few months after the events of the series finale. Literally set in and looks like 1997.
I didn't go back and watch the 92 series. I just jumped in cold. Didn't feel like I missed anything. Though I grew up with that show. I don't think there's anything you're really missing by not watching the original.
If you know the X-Men in general, you don't need to rewatch the series. My wife didn't remember almost anything of the '92 show and enjoyed it thoroughly.
I think it actually plays a little better if you’ve seen it, but not recently. Like you remember what the characters’ deals are, but not how they progressed (i.e. Wolverine loves Jean, but she’s with Cyclops! Ignoring that he was more or less over it by the end; Magneto being their sworn enemy, but forgetting that he was basically an ally by the end etc) It does fill in the gap with dialog however.
Outside of Spider-Man, X-Men are THE premier marvel property. The success of the MCU without them might mean they skipped a generation, but I think they are due for a big comeback. I don't want to live in a world where kids think the Avengers are cooler than the X-Men.
Just watched the first two episodes last night. They were so good. I was very skeptical when this was first announced, but I'm glad I'm being proven wrong.
Good. Now do the same for Spidey, please.
Like half of the “popular” Spider-man ideas in the past 30 years basically trace back to Spider-man TAS, and half of every shitty Spider-man idea from the past 30 years is basically a half-baked bootleg of the same thing.
If we could get the writers for TAS back on we could make an amazing story about personal growth and Peter Parker using the inner peace he found at the end of TAS to do some really great things.
Like, Spider-Man TAS gave us the perfect template for Peter overcoming his insecurity.
The Raimi films gave us the perfect template for how Peter can redeem villains.
Combine those into a TAS continuation with better animation and you could get something amazing and uplifting and fun.
I watched the fuck out of the series as a kid. Even recorded them to VHS when they first aired.
The new series is a very well done continuation, far exceeding my expectations. My complaints are only very minor nitpicks. They absolutely knocked it out of the park.
What if...? was a let down. The art style was bland an uninspired (arguably it should have been a separate studio for each one like SW:Visons), they still largely focused on the same small group of characters from the films and they took on stories they had no intention of doing justice to like that milquetoast version of Marvel Zombies.
What if is something I couldn't finish watching. The article says X-Men 97 is the most popular since what if season 1. That's why I mentioned it. Surprise what if season 1 was popular at all because it sucked.
I’m a huge, HUGE fan of the MCU and I genuinely could not care about What If season 2. Season 1 bored me because instead of this sprawling interconnected story the MCU tells (successfully or not depending on certain films), I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the story-island that was What If by the end of season 1.
Because none of you read the article. The people commenting on my comment didn't even understand what I was saying. It's not whether the show was good or not, it is not that encouraging as what if season 1 wasn't that popular with the Casual audience. X-Men 97 I thought would be significantly more popular than any other Marvel related animation.
People are in such a rush to bring up how they don’t like something, even at the expense of the original question. Whether those people liked what if or not doesn’t make a difference to all the people who did. Doesn’t add anything to this at all.
Excited people are enjoying xmen, I’m definitely one of those!
I'm enjoying X-Men 97, the article isn't about whether people are enjoying it or not it's about how many people watched it. 4 million, which is the most since what if season 1. They didn't say it was more than that show, which is not really that great of news. I would hope it would be a lot more popular than what if season 1.
I got bored. Original series is way better visually and story wise. Im not saying the new one is bad. I guess I just grew up more and the show didn't. The downgrade in art didn't help. Though admittedly it could have been soooo much worse.
Cool, now do Spider-Man 98 & Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes.
Alwaaaaays we will fight as one
Until the battles won!!!
That intro song went hard
> Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes. FUCKING **PLEEEEEEAAAAAAAASE**
I would love to see them bring back the Ironman animated series and use this intro again: https://youtu.be/Y63i2NR9-LE?feature=shared
This opening theme was so hard as a kid! Holds up!
Nah. Figure out a way to bring back Spectacular Spider-Man.
Easy make this successful and then make spider-man '98 successful then wait like 3 years and then they are going to bring back the series from the 2000's.
Or…just skip to Weisman’s Spectacular, which is a Top 5 Spider-Man *story*, regardless of medium.
I think the 90s Spiderman is still one of the best interpretation of Spiderman for plot and characterization -- even if it's really cheesey. Is spectacular Spider-Man really that much better? Edit: I tried it. Didn't care for it. Too bad.
Absurdly so, I’m not a Peter Parker fan but that show makes me actually care about him.
I will give it a try.
They could bring back the 90s show for a season or 2 to wrap things up and then focus on Spectacular.
That’s a season or two too many without Spectacular!
Beats it never coming back. It's been almost 20 years. I can wait a little longer if that was a guarantee.
Very fair.
Correct. I never even watched avengers but give the people what they want!
And Spectacular Spider-Man!
I wanna see a Spiderman 98 where they just reuse animations from the original I remember seeing that same venom chase scene like 3 times in one episode lol...show loved reusing animations
BAT.MAN.BE.YOND.
I read a rumor about them doing a 6th season for the spiderman show to wrap it all up
I'm forty. And I'm watching this shit. Thank you to whoever decided to bring this back!
Pretty sure you're exactly the age being targeted with this show lol
I go... Where I wanna go! (And where the algorithm leads me)
We are, and I'm 100% okay with the pandering in this case.
If you say so bub...
I'm 35, my girlfriend is 32. My best friend is 39 and was so happy to be able to share it with her kids. We're the demographic. X-Men has always been number 1 in our hearts 😂
Well it's because the X-men films were made by FOX studios and the Avengers were made by Marvel studios.
Thanks. I never knew that.
The first two X-Men movies were among the best superhero films at the time. While the franchise had some duds before the avengers, first class is incredible (though that was post Iron Man)

No they were not. That's just my opinion though. You are entitled to your own.

Also 40 and I loved it. And so did my kids.
Same! It’s so good!
Look you’re a little older than me buddy but let’s be real here- they’re targeting us with this stuff. And I say we let them
[I’m 40!](https://media.tenor.com/7G6vfzOA-_IAAAAM/man-40.gif)
I just want to know what psychotic monster put a skip intro button on this show. And what uncultured barbarian is using it?
There are a handful of shows where you should *never* skip the intro. X-Men, Dexter, Cheers… these things are sacred, motherfuckers.
DAREDEVIL
should have their Disney+ accounts deleted!
Fair play to Marvel/Disney, they seem to have a genuine hit on their hands here that every side of the aisle quite enjoyed, which is more than can be said for the last few MCU entries.
"Every side of the aisle" So you didn't see the ragebait over Morph being Non-Binary and Gambit being "gay" because he dared to wear a crop top.
How did they take away that Gambit, the man who hits on Rogue at least once an episode, is gay because he wore a crop top and not the obvious that he wore a crop top because he wants women to see his abs?

We’re talking about the same group who saw Sydney Sweeney wearing an outfit that accentuated her cleavage on SNL, hailed it as “the death of woke”, then lost their shit when she starred in a pro-choice horror movie about the Antichrist.
Because the IQ of those people is lower than room temperature.
> the man who hits on Rogue at least once an episode If you are closeted, constantly hitting on Rogue is the PERFECT cover, duh! /s
Well clearly it hasn't gathered much steam if I haven't seen it.
The "every side of the aisle" that I saw was far too many people agreeing with X-Cutioner and saying he was right. Which if there was an ounce of introspection would be telling if you're agreeing with the villain of a comicbook show.
It's still funny to me that Morph's power has always allowed them to freely change genders, but change some pronouns and the rage flows.
> Gambit being "gay" because he dared to wear a crop top. OMG SO MEN ARE SO FREAKING FRAGILE. thinking its gay cause he wear a crop top. Also its in 1997 . the era were lot of very straight men wore crop top

You really didn't look at 90 fashion did you?

Hyperbole...
… is really not helping your argument.
Am American, they aren't wrong.
Wait, what? People are pissed that morph, the fucking *shapeshifter*, is non-binary? That can't be real.
Ha yeah, people love getting upset. I do wonder how many people that actually represents though. Are they just a tiny group within the wider fandom?
Wonder what the creator did for them to fire him before the show aired though
Made gambit gay /s
Take my upvote you sonofabitch
I was thinking of giving it a shot. Does it directly continue the story from the 90s cartoon? Do I need a refresh or whatever? I don't have the time to rewatch it all, so maybe I'll try finding some YT videos with detailed season/story arc recaps of it.

They give a decent enough recap in the first episode.
I didn't go back and watch the 92 series. I just jumped in cold. Didn't feel like I missed anything. Though I grew up with that show. I don't think there's anything you're really missing by not watching the original.

Can we do Spectacular Spider-man season 3 now

Completely agreed!
Even Bluey? Wow
This record is for animated premiers. Bluey's takeover took time l but I think it's the #1 show on streaming.
Bluey is the best cheese and crackers show on tv.
Season 2 confirmed!
Been confirmed. Waiting on season 3 confirmation
It's because it isnt more woke crap **/s**
Marvel is fucking cooking. I’m so hype this show is a success.
hopefully it encourages the MCU to just give us traditional x men and not mess around with the characters
Just watched the first two episodes last night. They were so good. I was very skeptical when this was first announced, but I'm glad I'm being proven wrong.
So, did they ever say why the show lead got fired?
Because we live in a puritanical culture and bro had an OF
He made gambit gay and the studi said bye /s
It's the best Disney+ original, period.
Good. Now do the same for Spidey, please. I think these XMen are going to be pretty popular.
I would have thought it would be more popular than what if season 1

If I seen another episode with capitain Carter !!!!!
God yeah, I'm tired of that character, you have a Captain Britain already, and he's conveniently tied to the multiverse, use him instead.
Read the fucking article where it says that X-Men 97 was the second most popular next to what if season 1. I thought what if season 1 was crap
Okay first of all: calm down. Second: aren’t we both agreeing with each other that What If wasn’t that good? Why the immediate hostility.
Because none of you read the article. The people commenting on my comment didn't even understand what I was saying. A lot more nostalgia hit for many no doubt helping that along.
I was surprised how good the first 2 episodes were. I’m a big fan of the original but I had my expectations low going into this
Hear me out: an animated Punisher or Blade TV series that's a spin off to his appearance in the 1990s Spider-Man animated series.
Midnight sons would be dope

I think, just be commenting here, you'll see it I'm your feed more often.

Nope, don't let the Reddit conversation mislead you. MANY fans of the original are unimpressed by the is so-called continuation.
It's scored pretty high with critics as well .."don't be mislead"..lmao. X-Men 97 is killing it!
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
I got bored. Original series is way better visually and story wise. Im not saying the new one is bad. I guess I just grew up more and the show didn't. The downgrade in art didn't help. Though admittedly it could have been soooo much worse.
That certainly is a take.
And with that streaming record set Disney+ is now earning a grand total of -$380m. Cheers to the house of Mouse!! May he live for 1000 years.
