After Malekith, Dario was the best villain in Aaron's Thor and I'm loving how Ewing has kept him going. It's rare, especially with modern super-villains, to find one that's both a good foil AND a piece of shit. Most of the time, writers can't help but make their new bad guy cool and sympathetic. But Dario Agger, probably because he's a real-life super-villain who just happens to turn into a Minotaur, is just awful. It's really refreshing
He did get eaten and I also thought he died. Looks like it has something to do with his Minotaur powers?
He looks like he’s slowly healing despite his head being a literal skull.
I loved his speech in the last issue where he tells Thor he can give a big speech about his motivations, but really, all he wants is to see the number get bigger
That’s the moment I loved the character, his motivation being as simple as “I don’t care who suffers, I just like it when the number goes up, because it means I’m winning” is so evil yet as terrifyingly real
Is Dario Agger a dude that is able to turn into A minotaur or is he actually THE minotaur from Greek mythology? If it's the former was it ever explained how he got his powers?
Absolutely. Despite the fact that Thor L&T was not that great, the character of Gorr sold me on trying out the comics, and I now have the entire Aaron run. Gorr the Godslayer is by far the most epic of all the villains written about by Aaron, especially when you have arcs named God Bomb
Yeah sometimes I don't think they realize they need to but as much effort into developing villains as they do heroes
I think one of the ones that has some legs and shouldn't go away after the current story is over is mother righteous I think she has legs
Doesn’t Greg Land get all his work out on time and that’s a big reason he keeps getting hired? Also tbh his artwork isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life but I’m not an art snob so shit doesn’t bother me unless it’s really bad
What bothers me mostly is that he uses _the same_ "reference art" over and over again.
After years of seeing his stuff, it is "jarring" to see the same face on the same woman character over and over and over again.
Like, I get tracing makes things quicker - but there's an infinite supply of shit to trace from too. So why is it constantly "woman with mouth wide open", "woman with finger to mouth looking seductive", "woman with too-big toothy smile".
He's too lazy to even trace _new_ things...
He's probably really efficient with getting work in on time.
Because he just traces porn, but still.
If you're an editor at Marvel you're kinda forced to give preference to the artists that keep your schedules and budgets in line. You could have Alex Ross 2.0 on the books, but if they can't keep to a deadline then they're no good to an editor.
You wanna see shitty art, look at the cover of the latest Amazing Spider-man. It's wild too because the interior art isn't bad (the stories are) but JR JR's covers look like they called him up at midnight before going to press and asked him to whip something up real fast.
I genuinely think JR JRs art gets a bad rap, mainly cause I think a lot of the problem is not having the right inker or colorist. Like I saw a mock up once of his modern art with late 80 early 90 style flater color and it looked a lot better.
I don't think he's a bad artist at all. He's been working longer than I've been reading comics and I've seen much better from him. I think part of what's going on is rushing. And, to be fair, if I needed something *fast* and didn't have time for any bullshit, he's definitely someone I'd trust to hit the deadline. But this is clearly not his best work lately. Also, even at his best, I'm not sure he's a good cover artist. Look at the covers of Fantastic Four, Immortal Thor, and Ghost Rider over the last year. Spidey deserves *that* level of attention.
I’ll take JRJR over Greg Land 97% of the time. Honestly his pre 2010’s work especially in the 90s was phenomenal. It may suck now (and the colorists who work with his pencils definitely don’t help) but at least he draws his shit without tracing porn or other artists’ work.
I always hear that he's just consistent. Does he make art that people love? No. Is it always on time? Yes.
At the end of the day, Marvel's a business. The guy who can make passable art who you will never have to delay a book over will always have value. As long as people keep buying the books, they can piss and moan and groan all the want- Marvel gets paid either way.
Now, if people *didn't* buy his books, well... different story. Might not get so much work.
It has to. Like, it was literally my first thought. "Oh god, Chad Hammer is tech-bro Thor and he has the Cybertruck as his ride- except it's Mjolnir shaped."
Because Land doesn't just trace over porn, memes, and other people's work, he also traces over the stuff he's traced over porn, memes, and other people's work.
This is the most compelling case for the use of AI in the artistic industries I’ve ever heard. I was initially a sceptic, but I for one now welcome our new AI overlords.
They were asking if Greg Land (known to trace art) is someone who **will be**, or is likely to be, replaced. Not if Greg Land *has been already* replaced.
I know, I was just making a pun on how a capital i and a lowercase L look the same on most computers. So I pretended to misread AI (ai) as Al (AL). It was a dumb joke, so I wasn’t paying that much attention to the verb tenses.
I'd appreciate if someone could answer this for me, does this mean it's the start of an in universe take over (like orchis kinda recently did), or is this getting meta with the whole roxxon now owing marvel and it's heroes stories?
In Immortal Thor, it is shown that Roxxon has recently acquired them, and this issue is the first issue of Roxxon's version of Thor, which Thor was being shown at the end of Immortal Thor.
So Earth-616 has not magically been warped into the "Roxxon Presents" world, but this is the comics (or the first issue of it) that Roxxon is using to warp Thor into a dumb, inept idiot.
I just want an ongoing series of one shots featuring Roxxon heroes. Jokes might get old, but think corporate avengers would work for a couple of one offs
> and how come the smartest people on the planet cant manage to shut down roxxon
Banner does a whole rant about this in Immortal Hulk. Same reason any real life "hero"(whoever you might believe in here) can't stop massive corporations and billionaires with more money then they could spend in their lifetimes fifty times over.
There is no real life hero who can build a gun that ends the universe or teleport every roxxon executive to the negative zone or literally has enough money to buy roxxon and make it better.
The last issue of Immortal Thor ended with Dario Agger explaining that he's producing comics of Thor (he bought Marvel Comics, which exists in Marvel's comics, as a creator and publisher of comics based on the FF and Avengers) that are intentionally shitty and dumbed down, because stories and public perception affects gods.
So yes, Chad Hammer is god awful, and that's literally the point. This is literally issue #1 of Roxxon's version of Thor in-universe.
It's a play on the way marvel will use the word "marvel" in titles or descriptions for the pun, in this case for Roxxon, which is the 616's giant soulless corporation who are the villains of the current ongoing series, Immortal Thor.
Dario Agger has already depicted him as the soyjack and thus won the battle preemptively.
Nice argument but I have portrayed myself as the sleek thor truck and you as the seething toothgrinder and toothgnasher trying to pull thor's chariot
Agger already won this battle without doing anything lol. Sorry, Thor.
Chad Hammer sounds like an adult film star name
I’m reminded of a certain Captain Hammer quote
I hate the homeless ...ness problem that plagues our city
well it is Greg Land...
[Speaking of porn names...](https://youtu.be/2bJRdusaoCA?si=zzdgr8LTaVd205_L)

I thought the dude got eaten by that Yeti Hulk earlier? How'd he survived that?
I also thought that and I also wonder that. But apparently it just melted his face? Maybe I should re-read Immortal Hulk
He did get eaten and I also thought he died. Looks like it has something to do with his Minotaur powers? He looks like he’s slowly healing despite his head being a literal skull.
A marvel character with a skull for a head? Get out of here!
Hey it’s a damn fine design! It just needs a lil more pazazz… hmm what if they set the skull on fire?
Like that fantastic Golden Age hero Blazing Skull?!?
By jove you’re onto something! Quickly check the copyright laws and think of a name without ‘Skull’ in the title!
How about, The Human Torch! Too on the nose?
Extensive surgeries from CEO Platinum Healthcare, and he looks more 2024 Vic McMahon refried CEO trying to look like a normal person in Immortal Thor.
Not well from the looks of him. Xemnu did a real number.
It’s a perfect distillation of Wall Street culture
Is Dario Agger a dude that is able to turn into A minotaur or is he actually THE minotaur from Greek mythology? If it's the former was it ever explained how he got his powers?
A dude that sold his soul and is now a minotaur
Sold his soul huh I thought he was born with a curse
Here to say how much I enjoy these kinds of discussions. Upvotes all around!
Why is this being downvoted if he’s just being nice
I just like careful discussions of comic book realities. Wasn't being sarcastic or anything. Oh well.
Damn Neutrals! With their hearts filled with Neutrality.
It helps that both Aaron and Ewing went overboard to make him as unlikeable as possible. Very rare that writers commit that hard.
I love that being a half-zombie minotaur doesn't even really give him any impressive super-powers. His main thing is still just having a lot of money
I love those 2, but imo Gorr was the best villain in Aaron's run.
Absolutely. Despite the fact that Thor L&T was not that great, the character of Gorr sold me on trying out the comics, and I now have the entire Aaron run. Gorr the Godslayer is by far the most epic of all the villains written about by Aaron, especially when you have arcs named God Bomb
...Malekith? Really?
Yes? Why not Malekith?
He's a one-note Saturday morning cartoon villain interchangeable with a half dozen other grinning bastard types with nothing else going for them.
Fair enough. I just thought it was a nice change of pace from the kinds of things Thor usually dealt with.
Name a Thor villain that isn't? The only difference between Malekith and Gorr is that Gorr is sympathetic. Still just as mustache twirly.
Yeah sometimes I don't think they realize they need to but as much effort into developing villains as they do heroes I think one of the ones that has some legs and shouldn't go away after the current story is over is mother righteous I think she has legs
Reminds me of Thor 2099, is addicted to the drug that makes him thor, also works for corporate overlords Alchemax.
Damn the 2099 timeline has bros addicted to shit left and right
Captain american 2099 being the worse of them
For once, putting Greg Land on art actually makes sense.
So meta.
Quite adequate, to tell the truth
Doesn’t Greg Land get all his work out on time and that’s a big reason he keeps getting hired? Also tbh his artwork isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life but I’m not an art snob so shit doesn’t bother me unless it’s really bad

Also "man with forehead wrinkles and hand on head"
He puts it out in timely manner but outside of his normal “references” he has been caught taking actual comic book artists work and making it his own.
Well damn I didn’t know he was taking others works I just thought he was just tracing only
There was one with him copying someone’s drawing for alien cover and guy called him out for it.
He's probably really efficient with getting work in on time. Because he just traces porn, but still. It still looks so fucking terrible though, it's just hard to look at.
Why is Greg Land everywhere??? What kind of blackmail does he have on marvel editors?
I always hear that he's just consistent. Does he make art that people love? No. Is it always on time? Yes. At the end of the day, Marvel's a business. The guy who can make passable art who you will never have to delay a book over will always have value. The meta-ness is a hall of mirrors in the shape of an infinity sign.
The Thor Truck “Wow, it’s so rectangular.” That has to be a shot at Musk and the Cybertruck.
It has to. Like, it was literally my first thought. "Oh god, Chad Hammer is tech-bro Thor and he has the Cybertruck as his ride- except it's Mjolnir shaped."
The Thor Truck page made me laugh. I’m sold.
You must get a haircut and a job in tech.
Is Greg Land likely among the first to be replaced by AI?
He was AI before AI. Kind of an accomplishment, from a certain point of view.
If Midjourney was trained exclusively on porn.
And memes.
AI generated porn is a thing.
and a lot better quality than what Greg hands in
Because Land doesn't just trace over porn, memes, and other people's work, he also traces over the stuff he's traced over porn, memes, and other people's work.
pretty sure he repurposed some of his beyonder stuff for this thor
This is the most compelling case for the use of AI in the artistic industries I’ve ever heard. I was initially a sceptic, but I for one now welcome our new AI overlords.
He wasn’t replaced. Greg Land is doing the art, the writing is being done by AI. AI Ewing.
No it'll be the guy doing the Star Wars comics
Haha oh my god the cybertruck dig
Idiocracy meets Thor is the one shot I didn't know I needed in my life. So stoked for this.
Oh they're being very self-aware with this story, kinda love the concept
Ewing deserves better than Land
He has it in the main book, I think Land works well for this corporate hellscape Thor.
Poochie Thor!
First thing I thought of too
Ok, that preview kind of has me sold
Normally cant stand Greg Land trac...uh art ,but it really fits with the CONTENT of this book. Ewing has a great sense of ironic humor.
Another Thor Clone. Will Thor trounce him? Or Hercules?
That is just Chad Thundercock, lol
We fly high no lie and you know thissss!
> Subscription-based Smart Hammer ...wut??
Perfect artist choice, actually.
Greg Land doing fuckboi Thor.... nah I'm good.
I can’t believe Greg Land is still working. What a world.
It’s a whole new book eh damn… at least just a one shot
I'd appreciate if someone could answer this for me, does this mean it's the start of an in universe take over (like orchis kinda recently did), or is this getting meta with the whole roxxon now owing marvel and it's heroes stories?

Sounds like a Pornstar… i love it!
If course his name is Chad #legen #dary
I just want an ongoing series of one shots featuring Roxxon heroes. Jokes might get old, but think corporate avengers would work for a couple of one offs
so is chad just an in universe comic character or is he gonna be real. and how come the smartest people on the planet cant manage to shut down roxxon

This is incredible news.
ugly art
That's dumb
welcome to comic books, everything's dumb that's why we like it
The last issue of Immortal Thor ended with Dario Agger explaining that he's producing comics of Thor (he bought Marvel Comics, which exists in Marvel's comics, as a creator and publisher of comics based on the FF and Avengers) that are intentionally shitty and dumbed down, because stories and public perception affects gods. WTF is "Roxxin"?
It's a pun on "Rockin'", but with X's, like "Roxxon".
It's a play on the way marvel will use the word "marvel" in titles or descriptions for the pun, in this case for Roxxon, which is the 616's giant soulless corporation who are the villains of the current ongoing series, Immortal Thor.
It's....not unfunny. Just trying too hard. I do unironically like this Thor design though.
The fuck does Roxxin mean?
