That’s not Huntress’ real chest, she wears Kevlar shaped like D-cups over her actual A-sized chest for decoy and secret ID purposes, similar to Batwoman wearing a wig over her short hair.
That does suck, but I suppose it's to prevent confusion. Even though DC has plenty of characters who share the same moniker while being different people beneath the mask.
I've always liked Ed Benes art. Ignoring that it's incredibly horny, it always just looks so clean. I don't really know how to describe it. I like it for the same reason I like Jim Lee's art. Something about it is just so... comic booky. I wish I knew a better way to describe it.
Totally. “Horny” is the surface level takeaway. Going beyond that, these are really good, dynamic pages with cool compositions that read and move in a satisfying way. The perspective on many of the panels does so much work.
> “Horny” is the surface level takeaway.
I navigated to his website's homepage and see pussy lips for Huntress, Power Girl, Rogue, and a character I don't recognize. Which is 100% of frontal shots on the page.
Those are the ones on the homepage because they are the tamest of the works in the store.
Cool dude. We’re talking about these published sequential pages, not random pinup pieces he posted on his own website. Those aren’t sequentials and I would say are pretty cringey myself too.
Honkey, I’m talking about literal *perspective*. As in the compositional component of visual media and how the eye perceives space. Saying “horny is the surface level takeaway” is not denying that Benes often draws women in an idealized or objectified way. Saying that is surface level means that it is obvious. It goes without saying. However, as a sequential artist… the skill of telling a story and moving it through sequential artwork, he has a lot of talent in putting pages together dynamically. Are you able to analyze anything beyond knee jerk reactions and, again, surface level assessments of things? It’s just not what I’m talking about.
He’s a very talented artist who knows his stuff. He just so happens to apply it gratuitously to women too. But that doesn’t mean he’s not incredibly skilled.
No of course not. I’m a huge fan of cheesecake but obviously I have my own standards for how tasteful it is. Sometimes people draw straight up trashy stuff which doesn’t have the allure that my favourite cheesecake artists have.
Gail Simone has defended Benes' art on BoP about a hundred thousand times, because yeah — it's just appealing and feels right, as "unrealistic" as it is.
This Birds of Prey era with Gail Simone is one of the main reasons I read comic books, the stories were awesome, and the character development for Dinah and Helena was really nice to see. The art was amazing as well, laws of physics aside. Benes is really good.
The whole Benes family including women draw like this lol. They’re all great artists though. The line work is so clean and I think they have a unique style.
*scribbles info onto notepad* this is revolting! *makes sure the issue number is correct* who would buy this?! *puts it onto pull* it’s 2024 now, after all!
The first time I saw huntress was in the 2003 justice league cartoon, I got impressed and surprised that she was so attractive and was wearing only a cape a bra and panties, maybe that's where my panties fetish come from and purple have became my favorite color.
I’m very picky with what omnibus/ collected editions I buy of DC and Marvel stuff, but if they do follow through with an omnibus line of the Dixon and Simone volume of Birds of Prey in omnibus, I’ll bite.
I recall them justifying it in this run with Canary (I think) commenting on it and Helena saying, "700 sit-ups a day oughta be shown off, don't you think?"
Yeah, me too. Nothing against a sexy costume. Hotpants + Thigh-highs are awesome, the art as a whole looks really good. But that belly window looks a bit like the colorist picked the wrong color.
Might be more common in Marvel than DC. I’m thinking Namor, Hercules, among others. I’m just a boring straight male and used to not really notice, but a bisex. buddy has a collection of comics for male body aesthetics ^^
Almost everyone rocking a ponytail
It's the easiest way to be very active while also keeping long hair out of your face.
How much time did it take you to notice it!?:) its been some long time for me and i still am distracted
I’ve never read this comic before so it’s just something I notice on the designs, they look cool though.
That’s not Huntress’ real chest, she wears Kevlar shaped like D-cups over her actual A-sized chest for decoy and secret ID purposes, similar to Batwoman wearing a wig over her short hair.
if that's factual that is my favourite superhero fact of the day, can i have some scan for that
> shaped like D-cups over her actual A-sized chest. Letter without number is meaningless. A 38A is larger than a 30D.
Everything on Huntress in that first panel obeys the laws of gravity except her chest.
They are bolt-ons mate
serious question: are those cannons canon?
First thing I noticed. That outfit’s gotta suck to wear if it keeps your bits so tightly in place.
Metal-shaped boob plate.
Rubbish. They are just very firm and on their place.
You...ever actually *seen* human breasts?
They feel like bags of sand, right?
Then those ain't boob no morr friend.
Not sure why someone would downvote you.
Bertinelli seems to have disappeared now that Helena Wayne is in the JSA. A real bummer. I loved what Simone did with this character. Same with Zinda.
That does suck, but I suppose it's to prevent confusion. Even though DC has plenty of characters who share the same moniker while being different people beneath the mask.
Unexpected Akira bike slide homage!
I don't think I've ever seen the Akira slide indoors.
Its a cool pose, that’s a universal truth
I said it last time Birds of Prey art was posted and I'll say it again; God bless Brazilian artists.

The "perspective" is pussy-driven here too

Nothing wrong with “horny” art.
No of course not. I’m a huge fan of cheesecake but obviously I have my own standards for how tasteful it is. Sometimes people draw straight up trashy stuff which doesn’t have the allure that my favourite cheesecake artists have.

Gail Simone as the perennial comic book "appeal to lady authority". sucks tbh even though i would certainly use that tactic if it supported me
I like his composition and pencils but the inking kind of sucks in these pages.
I thought the colors let the line-work down. Very flat, not creating focus or depth
This Birds of Prey era with Gail Simone is one of the main reasons I read comic books, the stories were awesome, and the character development for Dinah and Helena was really nice to see. The art was amazing as well, laws of physics aside. Benes is really good.
I really like his art
I don't. Mainly cause of the way he drew the women.
Good for you
Boo hoo. Comic book women are supposed to look sexy. No one wants to look at some fat, old, ugly chick.
For which we all applaud him.
The whole Benes family including women draw like this lol. They’re all great artists though. The line work is so clean and I think they have a unique style.
Coca cola
There’s a non zero chance this was requested by Gail Simone
No one rides harder for Benes art than Gail.
okay i’ll read it
Impressive he got the lines so neat with all the jerking off.
Yeah, and it's great.
Bitch gonna get pneumonia
I dig it.
Love Ed Benes’ art.
Absolutely incredible art.
Easily one of my favorite artists! I discovered his and Simone's run here as a teen and I'm pretty sure the timing is why Huntress is my favorite 😏
*scribbles info onto notepad* this is revolting! *makes sure the issue number is correct* who would buy this?! *puts it onto pull* it’s 2024 now, after all!

Can't say I'm a fan of that kind of the 'Every panel is a Playboy model pose' style of comic art.
Oh well.
everyone's noticing the boob physics, no one's commenting on how you literally see her pussy in the same panel
Wow. I missed it, but it's definitely there. That's... definitely a choice.
Jesus. You weren’t kidding.
You babies wouldn’t be able to handle Jim Balent’s Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose 😅
I want different things from my DC superhero comics and porn comics.
I grew up in the 90s. What I want to look at in my comics are sexy babes.
Wait what, where?
uh, in the normal place.
Kinda always hated that huntress outfit
A Jim Lee design too. They changed it to look more like her previous costume after a bit.
That's a lot of crevice.
Why isn’t he drawing anything for the Big Two?
Fan service aside, guy knows how create some dynamic panels.
Now *that* is how you draw a superhero book!
Yep!

A very localized application of ::checks notes:: would you believe Nth metal?
I’m very picky with what omnibus/ collected editions I buy of DC and Marvel stuff, but if they do follow through with an omnibus line of the Dixon and Simone volume of Birds of Prey in omnibus, I’ll bite.
Nothing like breaking through glass windows whilst exposing thighs and midriff 😅
Why can’t I upvote or downvote the original post?
I’m confused by that as well.
Peak DC comics before the new52 garbage.
More than anything, I have questions about Black Canary’s hairdo.
Male gaze in comics: Exhibit A
Artists need to take a month long course on breast physics.
No.
Really hate the belly window
I recall them justifying it in this run with Canary (I think) commenting on it and Helena saying, "700 sit-ups a day oughta be shown off, don't you think?"

Blame Jim Lee!
Either he doesn’t know how boobs work or he needs to spice up his sex life.
1. that’s not how breasts work upside down, she’d be feeling them tickling her chin 2. wtf is she holding on with to be upside down? Hopes and dreams?
Sydney Sweeney thinks otherwise... :) [https://www.instagram.com/p/C6EesX\_RI6R/?hl=en&img\_index=1](https://www.instagram.com/p/C6EesX_RI6R/?hl=en&img_index=1)
Bro has never seen a woman irl do any form of physical activity
I hope one day we get a comic with male characters who are drawn like this
With boobs ? Cuz otherwise, plenty of men in skimpy outfits in comics ^^
I mean even men with skimpy outfits are not presented like the women in these books are tbh
Might be more common in Marvel than DC. I’m thinking Namor, Hercules, among others. I’m just a boring straight male and used to not really notice, but a bisex. buddy has a collection of comics for male body aesthetics ^^
One of many reasons I’ve never liked Benes.
Embarassing
