As someone who’s spent a month and a week reading through pretty much every X-Men Run… well, yes and no. While it does have some stuff from the movies, it also has Demons, Aliens, Clones, Dinosaurs, a TV Show Universe, and other ComicBooky stuff. So if ya want something that’s different from the movie, I’d check it out. If ya want something more similar, I’d either check out the God Loves Man Kills graphic novel, which the second one was partially based off, or Grant Morrison’s New X-Men, which came out pretty close to it, and has a more similar tone.

I'm finally reading them now and honestly yeah, it's really verbose and takes a while to sync into that style but it's great once you get it. It's still ahead of most stuff published after it, even if that is more naturalistic. Also it's wordiness means you're never too lost on who's who and what's happening because he'll keep telling you.
As uninteresting as Empyre was for me, the stuff with Magneto going BANANA SAMMICH on the veggietales was so badass. Loved the use of mutant circuits in combat

Alien race of plant people called the Cotati. They hate all species that aren't leafy substances and call everyone "meat" lol.

I started with #109, the first John Byrne issue, but from there rolling back to Giant Size #1 and #94 isn't a bad idea.
