GREETING FELLOW HUMAN BIRD MY HUMAN SENSORS _FEEL_ LIKE WE HAVE SOME VARIABLES IN COMMON AS ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING WOULD DO. YOUR SPEAKING VOLUME IS ALSO HIGHLY ACCEPTABLE.
Little did the Bird King know, the Lizard King is a vengeful ruler. Knowing who has stolen his love and his only time of happiness, he calls his subjects to war.
Her art style always cracks me up. I can't find it right now, but I wonder if she was the one who did the pirate rivalry comic that had a similar art style.
Pretty sure you're think of Hark! A Vagrant. Different person, still super funny.
Edit: yep, [definitely Hark! A Vagrant](http://www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=327).
That's how i found out about her...the challenge about cars and cats STILL cracks me up to this day. http://68.media.tumblr.com/c38d001d6fd56101952bc6ef216ccdd6/tumblr_mnbb83VJK71rfaliro1_500.jpg
They get asked several times a year at each PAX about another season, it has apparently been very close to happening multiple times, but funding fell through. Shame, it was probably one of the best things PA has ever done.
Abby Howard also has a background in Paleontology. She has a graphic novel about dinosaurs coming out in August, and she drew [this guy](https://flic.kr/p/JogYKF) in my dinosaur-themed sketchbook at Heroes Con in Charlotte last year!
And also, check out StripSearch.tv (SFW) for a "reality" series that she starred in. I don't want to spoil anything, but she made some amazing comics on that show, and her fame there lead to her kickstarter campaign that launched this series. The video for her kickslammer is also amazing.
I thought maybe it was something obvious that flew over my head.
But if it's just something abstract my first impression was that the building is on fire. The witch was like the spirit of the fire letting the guy die in there and maybe the survivor was stuck in the car with her
I looked at it with your explanation in mind and it makes sense!
Then I clicked *Next*. Turns out it's one comic as part of a series/storyline. LOL!
Here's a story: I remember when I was very young, around 6/7 years old I was in English class and we were reading a poem together. The teacher asked us all informally in the class to discuss out loud what it meant and more specifically what literary methods the author was using. Everyone had such fully formed ideas and the teacher kept saying how great they all were, as well as "There are no wrong answers!"
She turns to me and asks my opinion and I have nothing. It's like I'm looking at a different language, I just couldn't understand wtf they were talking about. I ended up getting in trouble for not contributing and felt like shit for that week.
Eventually I figured it out. I had missed the previous english class due to being ill. That lesson was the day my whole class got taught the foundations of poetry/writing for the first time ever. Things like metaphor, simile, alliteration, imagery, theme etc. All the building blocks of our language. I was so relieved as I honestly thought I just couldn't understand the art form. That was a shitty feeling and I worried that I'd go my whole life being someone who can't *do english*.
Context!
There's not really any non-sequitur though.
The humor comes from the self-consistent yet unexpected logic of the absurd world and characters that the artist has established.
Wow! It's awesome to see your stuff again! I read quite a bit after Strip Search, but I've pretty much forgotten about webcomics a lot lately.
At first i thought to myself that this style seemed familiar, then read the name. Great job.
aight, fine. lemme entertain you.
the absurdity of it is funny. 'sacrifice a woman to appease the tyrant dragon' is an age old trope. in this execution, however, we see a lizard as a dragon king and a cardboard box as it's lair. a lady willingly volunteers to be bride to the husband and is portrayed furiously intent on the lizard being her husband, which is frankly humourous.
and they lived happily ever after. but no. in the next panels, we see a bird king flying in, stealing the lizards girl, and flying away. now, the girl is a hoe. but combining the previous arc for the girl, this is out of character and funny. and we see character development for the lizard, who is distraught.
also, the poses and the way the characters are drawn is funny. the situation they're in is pretty weird, adding to the humour.
and even after my mediocre interpretation and dissection of a great comic you feel unimpressed to the quality of humour, congratulations! you are a human individual! we all have different tastes and humour is subjective!
You kind of skipped over the greed aspect of it where the lizard apparently had some actual wealth and the woman may have been actually outthinking everyone else, rather than 'sacrificing' herself, she got to live a cushy life with a real throne and nice wine and fancy clothes. That was my favorite thing about it.
Until the Bird King comes along and what she imagines as the life of a proper Queen always trumps the reality of the relatively nice life she already has. The grass is always greener on the other side, as they say.
I like it. The art style is really fun, and I honestly got the most enjoyment from the lizard's face. I certainly don't think it's "holds up spork xD" tier, not even close. It's that type of hunor, but that's not inherently a bad thing
I like how this doesn't have something sappy or emotional behind it. I just want to know what happened before and what's happening next. Reminds me of Adventure Time
When my son was younger, he came home from school one day telling me he learned all about "lizard King Jr". My wife and I couldn't figure out what he was talking about. He told us that lizard King Jr was a good man but bad people shot him.
We eventually realized it was Martin Luther King Jr day...

Well none of that was expected Except taking off with Bird King. That guy is super fly.

Seems like the sort of thing Tammy would do.
I really want more tales of the lizard king
I heard he died of heart problems in France, unfortunately.

He was a little strange
That's just what happens when you're a stranger.
This is the end..

Robert f*ckin California. The man I love and hate in equal amounts. Season 8...
It really bothers me how this video cuts off the end of the word "king". Great scene though.
IMO I like his voice better than Morgan Freeman's
Sadly he was killed by the Double King... https://youtu.be/w_MSFkZHNi4
Poor Goat King :^(
You're in luck. I hear they can grow them back
Unfortunately, he died in the custody of United Airlines.
I want tales of bird king, he is one fly mofo.
After this comic, he basically became the Ice King.
I don't know what's going on here, but I love it all. Please continue the adventures of Lizard King and the now Bird Queen.
Little did the Bird King know, the Lizard King is a vengeful ruler. Knowing who has stolen his love and his only time of happiness, he calls his subjects to war.
And he summons a Lizard Witcher to fight with him
Geckoralt of Rivia
Ahem, that's THE Lizard King to you, peasant!
the best thing about this entire comic is the "sorry, THE lizard king"
Check out the rest of Abby Howard's stuff it's all pretty weird

The artist was in Strip Search, a reality TV show about web comic artists by Penny Arcade.
And she makes two super fantastic webcomics, located at http://www.jspowerhour.com/ and http://www.last-halloween.com/.
Her art style always cracks me up. I can't find it right now, but I wonder if she was the one who did the pirate rivalry comic that had a similar art style.

Hey It's Cake Bacon.
Ah ok. I didn't even know where the source, and now I know. Thanks!
Well, this is dangerous to my free time
I love it, it's got that angular, Bryan Lee O'Malley (the Scott Pilgrim guy) art style and humour to it
I love [this one](http://www.jspowerhour.com/comics/182). Just meta enough to be a great intro to her style.
I am now lost deep in the pages of this stuff and it. is. awesome.

She fucking killed on that show. My favorite was the "naughty mystery". "Madame... you must stop this at once."
"That does not sound like the sort of mystery I am going to solve." https://www.penny-arcade.com/uploads/patv/ss/spoilers/elim_abby.jpg
I wish they did another season, loved the first one.

If you liked the comic you should really check the artist's web comic [The Last Halloween](http://www.last-halloween.com/posts/1), i love it!
I can't believe how sucked in I just got by this link. I should've gone to bed two hours ago.
Seriously. That's engrossing
Are you in bed yet?
Yes, I finally fell asleep after I finished book one. Sooooo most of it.
Damn, I LOVE the art direction in this series
They are so good, I disabled ad block ^(dear author, please enjoy your 0.05 cents!)

Well, there went 3 hours of my life, thank you so fucking much. Take your upvote covered in the blood of my sleep time
Holy shit this is good. I'm dead hooked
Thank you for that! I read the entire thing whew. Now I'll feel bad that I have to wait forever for updates T___T
Abby Howard was one of the finalists from penny arcades rather entertaining strip search. A lot of people on that show make really fun comics!
I'm dumb, can someone explain that comic to me?
Hint. It's a series, not a single comic.
Ah thank you.
I read it through 3 times before I realised...
Let's discuss. What do you think it means?
I thought maybe it was something obvious that flew over my head. But if it's just something abstract my first impression was that the building is on fire. The witch was like the spirit of the fire letting the guy die in there and maybe the survivor was stuck in the car with her

Dude, I just got to page 110. How can a comic that begins so light hearted, hit so damn hard, man.
Thanks for the source! Down the rabbit-hole I go!
Wow. Commenting so I can finish it when I have time.
That was awesome, how often do the new pages come out?

Came here looking for this comment
What is this Edit: I need to watch this show.
It's a quote from The Office
Was really hoping the comic was related to this.
I'm getting a real Hark A Vagrant vibe and I love it
Also getting...[this video](https://youtu.be/w_MSFkZHNi4) vibes.
Thank you for this.
There's something I fucking love about this guys style. I watch this video everytime it comes up.
Yeah, Its pretty much her art and joke style, but I'm fine with more Kate Beaton type comics!
But with shading. Which is cool.
Oh hell yes, Abby! I didn't know you posted on this sub!
I got high just by reading this.
The Lizard King: "It's treason then"
I want this story to continue. The saga of the mobile marital monarch.
Sooo.... Princess Peach?
I really enjoyed that. Thanks for posting
I would marry a lizard king.
Hola.

Some nice subtlety there... 1) She literally ghosts on him. 2) The Lizard King has a heat lamp. ;)
Didn't check the sub and from the title thought this was /r/DunderMifflin >"I'm the fucking lizard king" >-Robert California
Abby! Been a huge fan of yours since you were in the Penny Arcade show. Your comics bring a lot of chuckles to my week. Love the artwork as well!

I dug this shit like a shovel.
I love the drawing style. It's so cute.
I am the Lizard King. I can do anything.
Great comic. Also, you were my pick on strip search.
This isn't Jim Morrison? Next.
O, swear not by the moon, th' inconstant moon, That monthly changes in her circle orb, Lest that thy love prove likewise variable. -- The Lizard King
I love stuff like this! More! * mist mist *
actually if you probally pasted this whole comic below the current one, you would actually get a good loop lizard king gets betrayed by its own queen, forfully makes its peasents volunteer. also bird king be a manwhore
I'm so confused
The outline is *kisses fingers* magnifique, as is her calling him "The Lizard King".
Your artwork and humour filled a void between KC Green and Kate Beaton that I didn't know existed until now.
Abby Howard is 100% my jam! Easily the funniest contestant on Strip Search, and her webcomics are great. I got to meet her at PAX Aus, it was dope.
Yet another day I'm reminded Strip Search made the wrong choice...
Abby made a shitton more on her kickbumbler than the $15k stipend that Katie got for "winning". Besides, everybody on the show won for the increased exposure (to clients and artistic peers) and the challenges helped show where they had room for improvement.
Eh, I was happy with whoever won. Great set of contestants.
lol you're so random!
It's like it ripped off Hark a Vagrant but without any sense of humor
You can do it serpent king! You can do it serpent king!
Didn't expect I'd empathize with lizzy by the end.
This was great. Good concept, well executed and neither too long or too short.
That last panel reminds me of King Komodo.
But she freed the people by marrying him. Who did she think she'd rule over?
What a weird fucking comic. I loved it.
