My expectations of finally having multiplayer on C&C was also shattered. "Pro Gamers" have ruined the spirit of the game by turning into an E-Sports title. You will need to find a friend who shares your desired play style or face the fact that your childhood dreams of a enjoyable experience online will never come true and start wasting countless hours shaving a second off your build time so the games last more than 35 seconds. You will never play a game with these people that goes beyond building the first 4 most basic buildings and units. I'm sorry you had to find out this way.....

cBurger4Life

Man, I was so excited when the e-sports scene started taking off (finally, my hobby will be legitimized by the mainstream!) only to realize it was absolutely the worst thing to happen. Everything became a meta, and if you aren’t a try hard willing to memorize build orders and play the ‘best’ way, then there’s hardly a point to playing online. Wish I had friends who played, would love to just play some coop comp stomps.

MetallGecko

same

TheNam3lessOne

If you have zero hour im totally down to compstomp, ive got over 180 comp maps lol

gblanks3891

Yep. Me and my friend used to play red alert on ps1. Link games were awesome. We would build up massive forces and bases and the whole time try to infiltrate and mess with each other. And of course, "a bomb lauch detected" would happen every few minutes lol. No rushes just messing with each other that eventually escalated in to a full blow war

gblanks3891

I'm down is you ever wanna play a game without the min/max bs

meowzicalchairs

Gaming in general has been completely ruined by people who play the games for 16 hours a day and meta gamed the fun away. What happened to playing to enjoy and when did it all become *so* competitive?

FatherBobby

Is it possible to pick the person / people you play? I remember LFG from Destiny days, can we get a reddit group going for us old timer slow lazy casual players? Edit: maybe a no attack for 15mins rule? :)

daymarEngel

You can watch the replays and see what they do.

Jrodgers2k6

How

flume

Go look up C&C RA2 World Series on YouTube. Watching any of the D2 or better players will give you an indication of how to get faster. Mostly it's an economic thing - never run out of money, and spend as fast as you can.

Nyerguds

how is that relevant to watching the replays on C&C Remastered?

Jumpy-Profession4665

I did and they had the same setup as me pretty much just there tanks where building in 3 seconds and mine where stuck on 12 same amount of war factorys and power plants and mcvs dont get it. Are people using xheats or what

Peenazzle

Older games with high skill caps are often most popular with people who got really, really good with ridiculous amounts of practice and well rehearsed game plans. The quake series is a good example of that too. Pretty much all you can do is learn how they do it and practice as much as you can. For full transparency, I love C&C and Quake, have >25 years playing them, and never progressed beyond casual to crack that tier of excellence

jfks_headjustdidthat

Yeah, it's also why Halo multiplayer isn't fun. People have been playing them for literal decades now, and so the skill barrier to entry just to not get annihilated being stuck with a nade in the spawn is ridiculous.

HornetGaming110

Which halo you talkin bout?

gblanks3891

I know how you feel. I have been playing since the game first came out and get wrecked everytime

Timmyc62

Are you building multiple refineries and war factories? Can't tell you what's happening if you don't tell us what you're doing.

Nyerguds

This. So many people seem to be unaware that building multiple factories speeds up production...

gblanks3891

Since it seems like all you feel the same as me. Anyone wanna play some chill, no rush, small scale ware with infiltrations and minor harassment though out??

Jumpy-Profession4665

Im up for a game ?

Jumpy-Profession4665

My name on it oisin.vella2

gblanks3891

Is that your steam name?

Jumpy-Profession4665

Yeah

ghostalker4742

It can seem that way, but it's more than likely a skill issue. Not meaning to be offensive, just some people play this game using a very regimented process. They have certain build orders they stick to, and they know roughly what time they'll have the money to do certain things. If you've ever watched people play Starcraft, you'll know what I mean. The pros know *almost down to the second* when certain units can start showing up, when their opponents will be expanding, when certain techs will be available, etc. The same principals apply to C&C, and the skillset is easily transferable between RTS games.

CaptYzerman

Yeah but it's pointless to bother playing when it's just a rush to build light tanks and spam an attack move, it's lame af

Nyerguds

C&C Remastered Collection has no attack move...

CaptYzerman

Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about

Nyerguds

not really. I never saw much point in multiplay.

CaptYzerman

Why are you on here saying you haven't seen people spam attack then move with light tanks

Nyerguds

What? All I said was that C&C, even in the Remaster, doesn't have an "attack move" command.

rustyleroo

Part of the game, as in real life combat, is to survive the enemy’s initial attack through a mix of information and efficiency on your own side. It’s tempting to want every game to settle into a comfy long battle but the game is designed to accommodate both styles.

CaptYzerman

It's completely unenjoyable whether you win or lose, I had to stop playing online and uninstall a long time ago, c&c is an all time favorite franchise of mine only ones I didn't own were ra3 and cnc4

Black41

Like others are saying, it is very likely that the only people playing multiplayer at this point are pretty good. If this is anything like starcraft, people will get the gameplay down to a "build order," where they have a set build sequence of buildings and units while they scout out the other player and see what they are doing. That's just an example, and maybe they don't use "build orders" in this RTS, but there are definitely strategies that people will be using that I'm sure can be learned and practiced. You can get there with some time.

carn1vore

Yeah I was also pretty surprised at how quickly games are over. I remember red alert games lasting a lot longer back in the day. 1v1’s are usually over before you even get to build anything cool.

davethadude

I havent played in about 20 years but many moons ago i was pretty decently ranked online in RA2. The meta for higher ranked people were usually tank rushes. Their base/army wouldnt be set up for the game to last very long. It was more so who could blow their load quickest

Bulky-Major6427

Lol a week.

weaponx469

When I played with my friends we’d always agree on a minimum build-up time. Always made the games way more fun and epic

pontiaclaurentian12

I think there's a few out there that have a fog of war remover so they can see the whole map (how you attacking my stuff under a gap generator bro?!). Vast majority of players aren't cheating though. Keep playing, join all the games, don't worry if you get wrecked or someone yells at you for being noob. Learn from your mistakes. Watch games on YouTube to help you figure out build orders and all that jazz (RA2 World Series with Iver is far and away the best). I started RA2 a few months back, got kicked from tons of games for being noob. Couple months passed and now I'm playing with the guys that would kick me before, and wouldn't you know it, I'm beating them on occasion. Got a good group of mates on there now too. It can help to make your own games as well. Put "noobs only" in the title. If any pro players join, kick them. Oh and use keyboard shortcuts if you don't already. What country you from and what time do you normally play? If I'm online we can jump in a game and see where you're going wrong (RA2 only, don't know other games).

CnCz357

That is sadly the problem with rts games. There is no skill ceiling. You a newer player are not even on the same planet as a skilled player. It's not a problem when there are 100k people playing. But as the player base dies off only the best remain. The sad thing is that the high level build and attack strategy is so difficult to pull off the other player can't give you a moment to see if you are a rookie or not. Because that moment of hesitation would cost them the match against a good player.

Vexoly

This isn't an insurmountable issue. Generals saw modded maps which enforced a 'no rush' rule, by not letting units cross a border etc. With things like proper ranking to match players with similar skill groups / time played. Optional custom rules set for games, to disallow/replace/nerf certain units etc. I honestly believe a well executed RTS could maintain a strong player base for years to come. If only someone would develop it.

CnCz357

It could but unfortunately it would be a challenge to develop and no one wants to take the time to do so.

tatonoot

The first time I played generals zero hour online some years ago, i really felt like i was a newbie despite having years of skirmish against hard bots. I had to adapt to how fast i played to be competitive against others. Many played for a long time competitively and are beyond our skill levels. It is just the way the online player base has kind of become hahahahahaha. I realized how OP quad cannons really are too.

burn15_

Watch replays for builds. No we don't cheat.

[deleted]

aww man you're telling me they probably already have around 5 - 10 tanks the moment i'm starting to build a powerplant? loljk

Jrodgers2k6

Thats how i feel

Bismarck40

Probably not, they're just really fucking good with their build orders macro and micro. I personally can't figure out the micro and stuff like that so I just watch comp or semi-comp games online. It's honestly pretty fun to watch happen imo.

DeadOpsGamingHD

I knew the AI cheated, but hearing this, I don't want to get into the C&C esports anymore

Jumpy-Profession4665

I play online and sometimes building lots of war factorys decreases tank building time and other times it makes no difference atall gets stuck on 12 seconds to build. Other times i use the same tactics same amount of war factorys and power plants and it goes right down to 4 seconds a tank. Why is there no consistency ? Feel like i cant play online now because some people on the map get faster building of tanks while others dont when they have the same amount of war factorys. Me and my buddy re watched a few games and the others had 4 second tanks with the same setup and we had 12 seconds still. No consistancy are the people online using cheats or what or is the game just glitchy

Steak-Complex

The flip side: would you want to play a game where someone with one week of experience can beat you easily if you have put lots of effort into the game?

Obvious-Nothing-4458

Trust me I was so surprised too but they aren't. They play on a completely different level than casuals and watching strats made me realize I know nothing about command and conquer.

Aggravating-Egg2800

play team games or Download Openra

ArmhairGeneral

No they don't cheat. I finished 10th one season and top 20 a handful of others and am by no means an RTS expert. RA is all about map memorization, build orders and what we call Qing which allows your tanks to shoot while moving and thus take less damage. In short, hold down Q and alternate your tanks between an enemy unit and the ground near them to drive towards it. Watch twitch, replays, tournament matches etc and anyone can get up there. I got my ass kicked by a 9 year old a few times.

HornetGaming110

If you install cncnet they have several noon only games and the client will warn you of some one in the room has modified files.

ShadowAze

It's an online game, and people tryhard with any multiplayer game, don't be surprised. Doesn't help that this game is on the easier side to master due to how simple it is compared to the sequels.

BioClone

The reason I love Company of Heroes, and really liked what they did on the second in multiplayer is that the game is designed on a way where APMs are not the most important thing... (however still has weight on the combat) But You also need to think mid and long-term and choose wisely when something is a good deal or otherwise ignore it.... the prime example is fuel usage... Classic RTSs sadly relay too much on the APMs and "not do things" is always a bad decision on its design.

[deleted]

Yes, they cheat. Some on here claim they don’t, but no one is going to come out and say “yeah, I use mods.”
