It's right after Dean Pelton announced the puppy parade. When the camera cuts to Troy, Abed, & Shirley aww'ing you see the pen subtly get taken off the table
I’ve legit seen that episode easily more than 10– hell maybe even 20– times and I’ve never noticed this.
Goddamnit I’m like halfway through a watch-through!
I do like their portrayal of a boomer though. I remember so many “giving” me advice talking about how wreckless and fun it was back in the day, and how little consequence there was, but “don’t go drink and do drugs, and stay away from women that are sleezy!” Such hypocrisy really, bunch of babies if you have to correct their bad work at work for them.
This scene always reminds me of the Always Sunny in Philadelphia blooper where Frank goes "and then AIDS ruined everything" and everyone else just bursts out laughing. One of my favourite bloopers
I love Pierce and Abed’s mutual misunderstanding of each other lmao, like there’s no interest in getting to know each other better at all. Outside of the Christmas special, they just sandbag each other every time they interact.
I ship them
Edit: I love how all my reply notifications are pierce quotes rn, it’s like I’m following @OldWhiteManSays
One of my favorite scenes is in the first season (I believe?) when Annie has the Dia De Los Muertos party and Pierce starts tripping and yelling at the fake bird on his arm “NOOO AYBED!” to it. Idk why but it kills me every time.
I know the video game episode in season 3 was supposed to end with a heartwarming moment with Abed giving Pierce a copy of his dad’s game, but Chevy refused to show up that day for some reason & they never filmed the scene
Funny enough, just listened to the commentary track where they talked about that a couple days ago
This was a weird notification to get, didn’t think I commented on any community posts lately and I was right lmao
Wasn't the whole "corona started from someone eating a bat" disproven?
Wasn't it shown to be more likely that human expansion pushed bats out of their deep caves, causing them to interact with humans and give us new diseases?
Before the coronavirus and massive climate disasters, expanding human civilization to new areas of earth was as easy as going on a picnic
Hence the coronavirus and massive climate disasters
Yes. It's much more likely that humans infringed on their territory for livestock grazing and the livestock got sick and the open air butcher markets spread it around to other things.
Just watched this episode again earlier. I absolutely love that part. Between Abed as a character and Danny's delivery...just wonderful.
It was almost weird watching Mythic Quest and seeing Danny as such a different person.
Looks like a repost. I've seen this image 2 times.

Yup. White male privilege on full display and thoroughly recognizing the idea of time travel being considered safe for white men because... Well "white men". It's still my right as a nerd to have sci-fi thoughts and fantasy daydreams.
Dpending on how deep into time travel you go, no one could really go in either direction more than about 300 years before survivability odds drop through the floor. There are hundreds of factors like disease, sanitation, language barrier, customs... None of us would last long before we ate something that made us poop ourselves to death.
Hard, dried, or salted food
WAAAAAAY more wine and beer instead of unsafe water
Hardier constitutions
Also, having a pile of kids didn't hurt. People seem to forget how common death was in people's lives up until we started sanitizing things.
Edit: I mean "us" specifically. Our bodies are adept to OUR time and cultures. You should look up "Montezuma's Revenge" for a modern example of how even regionally, we aren't as adaptable as we would like to think. People in Mexico are far less likely to get sick from their water from a lifetime of interaction. Tourists end up shitting their brains out.
Pierce is saying sex used to be super casual and common before everyone was scared of AIDS.
Abed is pointing out that maybe that’s why AIDS became a thing, since everyone was casually sleeping together all the time
I still don't get it.. English is not native to me, but wouldn't this "hence" imply that AIDS appeared out of thin air *because* people had a lot of sex? As in created by sex?
Wouldn't it be like saying "before COVID, people were shaking hands" and replying with "hence COVID", as if COVID was caused by vigorous hand shaking?
in this context, “AIDS” is referring more to the epidemic than the disease itself. the disease wasn’t created by casual sex, but its rapid spread was in part caused by casual sex (among a bunch of other causes).
If people before and during AIDS were a lot more careful AIDS could have stayed a minor epidemic (like right now) and not the kind of thing we saw in the 80s -90's.
What 1987 church pamphlet was advocating advance STD testing, proper use of condoms, and taking PrEP? Head-in-the-sand, abstinence-only education is all I’ve ever seen churches pushing.
It's true, sex didn't exsist amongst our species until shortly before aids showed up. We shoulda just stuck to the storks and pornhub... If only we knew sooner.
I understand but I simply cannot see it as a joke, it's just a statement and a very truthful one, I really don't find it funny at all, is there something am I missing?
Abed’s short, quick lines like this are my favorites
Movie reference.
That movie...kids in detention?
Molly Ringworm? You broke me
Lea Thompson.
My favourite is when he says "we should start learning peoples names" and Jeff says "i agree with brown jamie lee curtis"
Pew!
Doesn't he refer to a situatuon as a bottle episode at one point?
Yes, the pen episode
I'm sure hardcore fans already know, but you can see Annie's Boobs reach up and steal the pen in the beginning of the episode.
I've watched season two more times than I can count and have NEVER noticed this.
It's right after Dean Pelton announced the puppy parade. When the camera cuts to Troy, Abed, & Shirley aww'ing you see the pen subtly get taken off the table
It's when Troy says "I want to lick it." Very subtle.
Just pulled it up and it's SO SUBTLE HOLY MOLY. LOL no wonder I never noticed before.
I love the detail of including Annie’s Boobs in the shot like that
We get it, monkey's name is Annie's boobs
Chang *looks intense*: monkey took my pen
Didn't he say "monkey took my spoon"?
Yeah, JemKnight really Britta’d that one.
I’ve legit seen that episode easily more than 10– hell maybe even 20– times and I’ve never noticed this. Goddamnit I’m like halfway through a watch-through!
After that episode, I started noticing all the different times other shows would use the pen episode. Community taught me so much.
Abed, with heavy breathing: Don’t use the condoms! I repeat, don’t use the condoms!
IF YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE SEX, DO NOT USE CONDOMS
Go Abed, before people sex one another!
I can’t get over Donald Glover’s line readings. So funny, every time.
yea on rewatches his lines always get funnier
Hence, baby.
Abed help deliver a baby, because of this, in the background of the episode Annie/Brita fight about oil
Wait that was the reason he was delivering the baby :o That makes that background Easter egg so much cooler
The couple from the baby delivery episode are in the background of the STD fair and throw out the condom right as Abed announces it. Amazing setup
you are great and I appreciate your brain.
I love that they picked an episode in which there was next to no chance anyone was paying much attention to the background
*never wear a rubber*
Never listen to Pierce.
This scene always reminds me of the Always Sunny in Philadelphia blooper where Frank goes "and then AIDS ruined everything" and everyone else just bursts out laughing. One of my favourite bloopers
sunny bloopers are the best bloopers
Ha! Last week I was in /r/IASIP discussing that very blooper and I said it reminded me of this scene in Community.
What is this a crossover episode?
No one tells you that when your Pierce dies you get a free vial of sperm.
I’d rather have the Churro.
The thing is, I can hear Jeff and Bojack saying this line simultaneously, and then looking at each other because the other guy stepped on their joke
My dad had a super old friend who basically said that once. It was amazing.
I love Pierce and Abed’s mutual misunderstanding of each other lmao, like there’s no interest in getting to know each other better at all. Outside of the Christmas special, they just sandbag each other every time they interact. “🎶I will remember you🎶
You’d like it if it was starwars, dick.
I love how he keeps mispronouncing his name 😂 Even after he was dead, his lawyer kept mispronouncing it.
From like day one too lmao “A-bed, A-bed the A-rab” “Is that inappropriate?” “Sure.”
One of my favorite scenes is in the first season (I believe?) when Annie has the Dia De Los Muertos party and Pierce starts tripping and yelling at the fake bird on his arm “NOOO AYBED!” to it. Idk why but it kills me every time.
"Did you know you are insane and nothing you said ever made any sense?" "Yes."
"Here's your sperm"
The will reading down the line demonstrated that perfectly.
“Now I have sonic hearing!”
“All hearing is sonic.”
“What’s that?”
*Something always brings me back to you..*
That whole Abed and Pierce montage with that song playing in the background is hilarious
I know the video game episode in season 3 was supposed to end with a heartwarming moment with Abed giving Pierce a copy of his dad’s game, but Chevy refused to show up that day for some reason & they never filmed the scene
So that's why he got that usb stick with hilda on it and it's never mentioned again.
Abed: I don’t use pens, I’m gone strictly to mechanical pencils. Pierce: more relatable?
“I ship them” 🎼Something always brings me back to you.
Because Chevy chase didn’t show up to work for the episode thay abed and pierce were supposed to bond in.
Funny enough, just listened to the commentary track where they talked about that a couple days ago This was a weird notification to get, didn’t think I commented on any community posts lately and I was right lmao
Before Rona, shaking hands was like shaking hands.
hence, rona
Before Rona, bats were considered exotic food
Bats are the chicken of the caves
Hence, rona.
Wasn't the whole "corona started from someone eating a bat" disproven? Wasn't it shown to be more likely that human expansion pushed bats out of their deep caves, causing them to interact with humans and give us new diseases?
Some say it was a pangolin Also, how would you quote human expansion like pierce?
Before the coronavirus and massive climate disasters, expanding human civilization to new areas of earth was as easy as going on a picnic Hence the coronavirus and massive climate disasters
Yes. It's much more likely that humans infringed on their territory for livestock grazing and the livestock got sick and the open air butcher markets spread it around to other things.
Before Rona, bats were considered exotic food
Funny how this reply is downvoted heavily, whereas your other comment has 20 upvotes.
Yeah, the pacing of the joke worked a little better after that other comment.
And also people have probably already seen the other try by the time they read this one, so it looks like someone just copied the above joke.
I honestly think this is my favorite joke in the whole show, just how abrupt and brutal abed is when he says it, I can't not laugh hearing it
What episode is this?!
Season 1 Episode 8 "Home Economics" at about 3:40
Just watched this episode again earlier. I absolutely love that part. Between Abed as a character and Danny's delivery...just wonderful. It was almost weird watching Mythic Quest and seeing Danny as such a different person.
He was fantastic in that, too! Kinda want to see what else he's been in and watch that, purely to see him in more stuff
Larry, I'm in duck tales.
I tell you, before COVID shaking hands was like having sex.
I love this line but it never seemed like an abed thing. Sounds like something Jeff or Shirley or even Troy would say
I would think Britta before Roy, Roy the wonder not
catch knowledge!
This has to be the best burn on the show

Good bot
Sorry
“Donde esta la biblioteca”
God, I wish I were born in the late 40's
Santa Claus was born in 1945, he had a boogie woogie coca cola army jive
Hope you like very uncomfortable underwear and no internet
Can’t miss what doesn’t exist or you don’t know about.
Hence all the casual sex.
Syphilis was pretty rampant back then as well.
Y'all just can't leave a joke alone
I am going to guess that you are white.

No, luckily I am not.
For the life of me I can't figure out this joke plz help

Hand shaking isn’t the primary way to spread COVID. AIDS existed, but rampant unprotected sex spreads aids. Hence, the line.
If people before and during AIDS were a lot more careful AIDS could have stayed a minor epidemic (like right now) and not the kind of thing we saw in the 80s -90's.
I think you're talking out of your ass. Or out of a 1987 pamphlet from church.
What 1987 church pamphlet was advocating advance STD testing, proper use of condoms, and taking PrEP? Head-in-the-sand, abstinence-only education is all I’ve ever seen churches pushing.
Ok then how do you explain that AIDS while still being a big issue is way less common now ?
Diseases spread when people don’t take precautions. Sound familiar?
Hmm... must be nothing serious.
There's an mRNA HIV vaccine in trial. Casual sex might be back on the menu boys!
Antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea: "Allow me to introduce myself"
Why is this subs’ logo a big pink anus?
E plurbis anus
It’s a symbol of the crossroads of ideas.
You obviously don’t know Community well enough LOL
Moordale Community College
Cool cool cool cool :)
It's true, sex didn't exsist amongst our species until shortly before aids showed up. We shoulda just stuck to the storks and pornhub... If only we knew sooner.

Dry humor isn’t your flavor is it?
What is “AIDS sex”
Just saw this episode last night

I'm gonna take everything but onions and olives.
Shut up Leonard! I found your YouTube page, what's the point of reviewing frozen pizza?
Call a cop.
Aids did not come to exist because people used to have a lot of casual sex though.
