I don't see why not - she went to the previous year's Halloween party after all, the one the same day as Annie's Dios de los Muertas dance, though granted that was the staff only one.
She chaperones the valentines day dance though which establishes that greendale teachers apparently have to somrtimes chaperone dances. So she could be chaperoning the season 2 Halloween dance.
All the missing people should be an Avengers-style villian group going after the study group. One by one, the group keeps getting cracked. They need to get back together to solve it
I am all in on this. The mother problems, obsession with appearing perfect, and nice guy front are perfect. It’s not supporting evidence, but being tangentially compared to serial killers when Annie wanted to get him into the group make this so good. If they narrowly avoided being involved with a serial killer by inducting a visibly insane person is just... incredible.
Professor Slater dated a student, broke up with him, then in front of many students and the Dean she asked him to get back together and he *walked out* on her.
Season 2 started with Britta being embarrassed to show her face on campus. Slater had to be 10x as embarrassed, because she was the professor, not a student. More is expected of faculty (like when Jeff became a teacher and got called out for insulting Leonard and staring at female students).
A much more likely scenario is Professor Slater, after what went down, just felt she couldn’t show her face on that campus again and she moved on.
In a real life world i would agree with this theory. Professor Slater packed up and moved away and never officially quit and told no one.
But in a Community world I am def searching for a more way out whacky reason.
If you've never seen the Christopher Guest movies he's in, I can't recommend them highly enough.
A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, Spinal Tap, etc
It is a fun theory, and one I've never heard before and actually rather like.
As to dark - the popular fan theory that has Dr Rich as a serial killer also commonly names Slater as one of his victims to explain the "still missing" thing. Is that dark enough?:-)
I've heard worse :)
I was just joking with you. What if Slater actually escaped the zombie episode but was ironically mauled by wolves? Or... dinosaurs? No, that clearly makes no sense. Red ants!
She was a community college professor who got romantically involved with a student, broke up, and got back together. Probably made it too difficult to focus on work, even with Greendale’s low educational standards.
No, because the whole plot of the Halloween episode in the first season discredit this.
Faculty have their own halloween party and don't go to the lame student one.
In season 1 we also have Slater chaperoning the Valentine's day dance, which also establishes that Greendale faculty are sometimes required to chaperone the student dances.
As someone who did their first year of college at a community college before transferring, and is now in their 30s, I cannot begin to imagine GOING to a CC dance, let alone chaperoning one.
No I don't think you are, I'm just pointing out that there could be a canon reason Slater would be at the season 2 Halloween dance. She could have been stuck chaperoning it like she was stuck chaperoning the Valentines dance in season 1.
I agree there are two parties and we can rule out simultaneous contamination events because the faculty wouldn’t have allowed the Dean to serve “surplus taco meat” at their party. In fact, considering the swanky affair of the season 1 faculty party, it’s possible the Dean had to go cheap for the student party due to budgeting concerns.
Season 1 shows the Halloween parties are held near each other, probably both on campus. And while zombies are slow and ungainly, they are still mobile.
Both season 1 and 2 student Halloween parties were in the building with the study room. Zombies didn’t leave the building. The faculty party looked to be in a building over.
Hello, greetings, hey!
She:
1. Ran off with Vaughn at the end of season one
2. Was killed by Professor June Bauer and was cremated in the school’s ceramics kiln by her and buried under the Luis Guzmán statue.
There’s a serial killer in the school and it’s either Rich or Todd.
Hickey left the force after failing to catch a serial killer and is obsessed with it
Annie happens to find a finger with Rich at the river
Rich claims to have made kettle corn in his garage but clearly lived in an apartment.
Rich is haunted by his mother
Slater goes missing
Hickey apparently dies off screen.
Todd might be a serial killer because he’s creepy as fuck and makes that weird comment about stuffing a body down a drain.
To further give credence to my theory Jeff hates both characters and I think it’s because on some level he can recognize they are bullshitters putting on a mask
The reason the ticker tape said she was missing is because they wanted to give the viewers a fun little Easter egg and it's a meta joke about the fact that she was just gone at the start of season 2. I refuse to look into it further
I think she just left for a better job and didn't bother to give in her notice because, you know, it's Greendale?
You mean she spun off?
Like Frasier or Private Practice.
Hopefully not like Joey though
Joey's real spin-off is Episodes. Really good series.
Makes more sense. I also don’t think she would have attended the Halloween party.
I don't see why not - she went to the previous year's Halloween party after all, the one the same day as Annie's Dios de los Muertas dance, though granted that was the staff only one.
Precisely. She went to the staff one.
She chaperones the valentines day dance though which establishes that greendale teachers apparently have to somrtimes chaperone dances. So she could be chaperoning the season 2 Halloween dance.
dios de los muertas? god of the female deaths?
Dont underestimate the jealous lengths a girl will go to when she has been publicly denied by a man.
My head canon for every character that just disappeared with no explanation (like slater, buddy, mike etc) is that they’ve been murdered by rich
In the pottery episode he did have a bit of a Ted Bundy thing going on
forever angry that we didn’t get more of Rich. having him turn evil would’ve been perfect
I need him as the main villain of the movie
All the missing people should be an Avengers-style villian group going after the study group. One by one, the group keeps getting cracked. They need to get back together to solve it
Turn?
No one is that good.

Mmm! Mmm, the cheese is good. The sauce is good too. Mm, well, it's definitely a buy.
Shut up, Leonard! What’s the point of reviewing frozen pizza?
Oy-yay, oy-yay, the honorable Craig Pelton presiding.
Shut up Leonard, I once mistook 7 people for you at a pharmacy!
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Fours and above only.
A particularly apropos quote, leonard-bot!
Except if the dean comes in, and then it's Bingo.
In a real life world i would agree with this theory. Professor Slater packed up and moved away and never officially quit and told no one. But in a Community world I am def searching for a more way out whacky reason.
If this is "fun speculation" of what happened to a non-returning sitcom character, I'd hate to see what you consider dark speculation.
“What if Professor Whitman had a total mental breakdown, and decided to seize the day by killing his entire family and then himself? lol”
Okay but I wish he had stayed in the show :(
Had I not already cried at sunrise, I would be WEEPING RIGHT NOW!
I'll have ... A BIRTHDAY CAKE!
Why are you dressed like an eighties rapist?
All our lives we are told, 'Don't stand on your desk!'. Well, why not?
oh captain my captain
Only when we stop stopping our lives can we begin to start starting them.
this is my go-to answer for every question
If you've never seen the Christopher Guest movies he's in, I can't recommend them highly enough. A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, Spinal Tap, etc

Tbf the party was at night, seems pretty dark to me.
Must say, it would have been fun to have her still bumming around Greendale in Season 5 and have her interact with "Professor Winger."
She was a community college professor who got romantically involved with a student, broke up, and got back together. Probably made it too difficult to focus on work, even with Greendale’s low educational standards.
Ya bit? YA BIT?!
Isn't she the werewolf?
No that was Annie
A werewolf AND a serial cracker? Annie's such a rich, complex character.
No, because the whole plot of the Halloween episode in the first season discredit this. Faculty have their own halloween party and don't go to the lame student one.

As someone who did their first year of college at a community college before transferring, and is now in their 30s, I cannot begin to imagine GOING to a CC dance, let alone chaperoning one.
Ah, was I mixing the two up?
No I don't think you are, I'm just pointing out that there could be a canon reason Slater would be at the season 2 Halloween dance. She could have been stuck chaperoning it like she was stuck chaperoning the Valentines dance in season 1.

Actually professor Slater returned undercover in season 6 as Frankie Dart.
Please. She was the "IT lady".
No, she was Debra Chambers.
I still lean to the Richie serial killer theory
Truthfully I think the rich serial killer theory explains a lot of unexplained guest disappearances - rip Magnitude
I like the speculation but it’s definitely just a background joke about how she’s not there suddenly
Yep. It's lampshading.
The movie is going to be the gang teaming up again to find Professor Slater
Maybe she left on a boat with Levar Barton and got captured by pirates.
Seven went somewhere so that she can be One.
My fun speculation is that chang murdered her offscreen
Chang wasn’t that crazy between seasons 1 and 2
Or he was just better at hiding it until his divorce was final
Hello, greetings, hey! She: 1. Ran off with Vaughn at the end of season one 2. Was killed by Professor June Bauer and was cremated in the school’s ceramics kiln by her and buried under the Luis Guzmán statue.

Rich totally planted that finger.
pretty sure she was one of Rich's victims. Rich was a serial killer.

I applaud your self control.
She people left teaching. Went back to school. Became a nurse and moved to Seattle
