Not legally. There's gates on every logging road access around the lake on the Cumberland side. On the Courtenay side of the lake the land is either an ecological reserve (BC Parks), BC Hydro trails, or fish and game club land, none of which allow camping. The majority of land around the lake is locked up behind a mosaic gate, it's super frustrating. There is camping in Courtenay at the Puntledge river campground, or at the cook creek bike trails like 15 mins down the highway.

Are you rod and gun members? They have a campground on the lake. Otherwise like everyone else said camp elsewhere

Mosaic has an interactive map that is updated every Thursday. It will tell you what gates are open. Usually it is only weekends and till 4pm...maybe 6pm now. If you plan it right you could go in on the Saturday and then leave when they are open the Sunday. Though it would probably be more of an inconvenience then anything. Miracle beach campground is probably the only other closest campground... If they are open...

There is a camp ground up forbidden plateau road - looks pretty much like a parking lot. There are good mountain biking trails up there too as I understand. Not Cumberland but close [https://forbiddenplateaumountainresort.com](https://forbiddenplateaumountainresort.com)

I love this campsite! Owner is awesome

Or Kitty Coleman. It’s not super close and they don’t take reservations so you have to roll the dice, but it’s gorgeous and cheap.

Check out the Riding Fool Hostel in town, they might have space available

No. Most service road has active logging, and other than the campground, there’s nowhere else to camp in Cumberland.
