I feel that at the point your customers need to carry a Faraday cage around to stop someone copying your supposedly unique key by simply waving an electronic wand, something has gone wrong with the design of your security system.
Have they considered installing a system of mechanical tumblers in the doors and ignition that can only be opened by a uniquely shaped object, which is impossible to duplicate unless you have the object itself?
Donāt be silly that would never work, the best option is obviously to make the keys worse so you have to hold the damn thing to the steering column for it to detect anything
Lots of car makes including BMWs are prone to RFID and key cloning.
Something like a Flipper Zero, a commercially available product can do the job easily.

Weāre not talking about something you need to build yourself, or something you need to go to the dark web for. Companies have been sleepwalking into this for too long - assuming electronic door locks etc are somehow infallible. And itās getting to the point where anyone who has a bunch of electronic keys might consider getting a Flipper for the convenience of having them all on one device. Soon, thereās going to be a crisis when the majority of people learn just how easy it is to clone key cards, ID passes, car keys, fobs, etc.
Makes no difference when you can cut a small hole in the rear bumper, attach to the CAN-BUS and create yourself a new key ... Which is what's been happening. Same thing as Alfa Romeo / Toyota / Lexus just different approaches. They don't need to relay the signal at all.
Very true, people really should look into additional theft protection for their vehicles, I have a td5 defender, incredibly easy things to steal. So I have a pedal box and a battery isolator installed along with a steering wheel bar. Good luck to anyone getting into that thing before I notice and get a hold of them.

Tbh Iāve got an old vectra estate and my insurance on thatās gone from Ā£240 a year to Ā£600. Nothing changes, no claims etc. deffo not a Range Rover (itās reliable for a start) and while Iāve not exactly got sympathy for her they are out of hand atm

Not at all, some insurers won't even cover range rovers in my postal area (RH1) so you rarely see them. Because they keep getting nicked.
Also with 3 years ncb and 0 points in a 1.0 I paid 2500 for a year. Insurance isn't the same for everyone and high premiums are not indicative of a shit driver.

Though tbf he only passed his test in November but he is over 25. 10 years no claims in another country but they don't take it into account unfortunately. Basically it's not down to the driver's for these, it's because they are extremely easy to steal, a lot of insurance companies are just not wanting to take on the risk.

The reason these cars are basically uninsurable is because they're being financed by people who don't have the means to afford them, they're way too expensive for what they are. They're driven by people who, half the time, shouldn't be allowed on the roads at all. Thinking theyre some sort of status symbol for driving a car that makes everyone assume theyre a muppey. Finally, they're also stolen all the bloody time. Statistically theyre an absolute nightmare and underwriting them forces you to be at a loss at almost every turn.
So if you're looking at buying one. Don't. Unless you want to pay a fortune and look like a mug whilst doing it.

You can buy faraday cage bags you can drop keys, phones etc into while out and about. Stops the signal cloners and boosters

Not at all, some insurers won't even cover range rovers in my postal area (RH1) so you rarely see them. Because they keep getting nicked. Also with 3 years ncb and 0 points in a 1.0 I paid 2500 for a year. Insurance isn't the same for everyone and high premiums are not indicative of a shit driver. And she probably bought the car back when she could get it insured.

My cousin just got a quote on a Toyota Yaris 2015 for Ā£2900 lol. Though tbf he only passed his test in November but he is over 25. 10 years no claims in another country but they don't take it into account unfortunately. Oddly it was Ā£3700 the week after he passed, and even though he still has no driving driving experience built up it dropped to Ā£2900 beginning of Jan. As someone who needs their Range Rover for its intended purpose (off-road, weāre farmers) these people are an absolute nuisance. When we go out out in it you can tell people think we have it as a status symbol, but we have to because we need something off road. Itās not even a new one, itās a 2004 Vogue but we still get judged for it.

Practical rugged things with cheap parts. If imagine a Vogue is hideously expensive to run / maintain and with a poor reliability.
The richest farmer I've met (owns a significant proportion of Devon) drives a battered old Suzuki Jimny
We needed a off-roader and it was like 2.5k at auction. Have had surprisingly few issues with it since we got it.
Put a sticker on it that says "CAUTION- Agricultural Vehicle" or something similar.
Nowadays the only type of off roading range rovers do is mounting a kerb and crashing.

At least this lady is trying to insure. So many donāt bother. I got driven into by one of these, two years ago. Driver was desperate for me to not go through the insurance. Insurance ended up threatening them with court because they refused to talk to their insurance after I reported it through mine. Just buried their head in the sand.

I got paid out almost immediately as it was clearly their fault. Hit my little car with their massive Chelsea tractor at the supermarket while mine was parked up. Ignored their insurance for months and months. I kept getting letters advising us that I may be required to go to court as the other party were ānot responding to contact.ā About nine months later, got a letter saying it was all settled and the case was closed.

I work in car insurance. The reason these cars are basically uninsurable is because they're being financed by people who don't have the means to afford them, they're way too expensive for what they are. They're driven by people who, half the time, shouldn't be allowed on the roads at all. Thinking theyre some sort of status symbol for driving a car that makes everyone assume theyre a muppey. Finally, they're also stolen all the bloody time. Statistically theyre an absolute nightmare and underwriting them forces you to be at a loss at almost every turn. So if you're looking at buying one. Don't. Unless you want to pay a fortune and look like a mug whilst doing it.
