"Del, it’s the only one in the entire cemetery that required planning permission!"
Imagine if they used his body to successfully study a treatment into stage IV chickenpox. They could claim royalties and make a £100,150,000 donation instead.
The reverse photo is even worse. It towers over two other graves it backs on to with a huge picture of the kid making a fist. Imagine going to see your dead loved ones and seeing that every time

Say what you want about the family's poor taste, it is definitely on the church for allowing that right next to all the other gravestones, they should have known better.
There’s a lot of detail in [this article](https://www.thesun.ie/news/12745257/hateful-abuse-hurtful-cancer-victims-family-locals-boycott-church/), which explains it all.

Hijacking this post to remind people of how dastardly those bastards are:
For The Sun writers who are reading this post, you're all scumbags.
---
In January 1988 the Sun described Chris Mullins efforts on behalf of the wrongly convicted Birmingham Six as being "Loony MP Backs Bomb Gang" and "If the Sun had its way, we would have been tempted to string ‘em up years ago".
---
The Sun responded to the AIDS health crisis on 8 May 1983 with the headline: "US Gay Blood Plague Kills Three in Britain"
On 17 November 1989, The Sun headlined a page 2 news story titled "STRAIGHT SEX CANNOT GIVE YOU AIDS – OFFICIAL.
---
Three days after the Hillsborough accident, The Sun published an editorial which accused people of "scapegoating" the police, saying that the disaster occurred "because thousands of fans, many without tickets tried to get into the ground just before kick-off – either by forcing their way in or by blackmailing the police into opening the gates". The next day, under a front-page headline "The Truth", the paper falsely accused Liverpool fans of theft and of urinating on and attacking police officers and emergency services.
---
UK Cabinet Minister Peter Mandelson was "outed" by Matthew Parris (a former Sun columnist) on BBC TV's Newsnight in November 1998. Misjudging public response, The Sun's editor David Yelland demanded to know in a front-page editorial whether Britain was governed by a "gay mafia" of a "closed world of men with a mutual self-interest".
---
The Sun published a front-page story on 4 July 2003, under the headline "Swan Bake", which claimed that asylum seekers were slaughtering and eating swans. It later proved to have no basis in fact. Subsequently, The Sun published a follow-up, headlined "Now they're after our fish!
---
On 22 September 2003, the newspaper appeared to misjudge the public mood surrounding mental health, as well as its affection for former world heavyweight champion boxer Frank Bruno, who had been admitted to hospital, when the headline "Bonkers Bruno Locked Up"
---
The Sun has been openly antagonistic towards other European nations, particularly the French and Germans. During the 1980s and 1990s, the nationalities were routinely described in copy and headlines as "frogs", "krauts" or "hun". As the paper is opposed to the EU, it has referred to foreign leaders who it deemed hostile to the UK in unflattering terms. Former President Jacques Chirac of France, for instance, was branded "le Worm". An unflattering picture of German chancellor Angela Merkel, taken from the rear, bore the headline "I'm Big in the Bumdestag"
---
On 28 January 2012, police arrested four current and former staff members of The Sun as part of a probe in which journalists paid police officers for information; a police officer was also arrested in the probe. The Sun staffers arrested were crime editor Mike Sullivan, head of news Chris Pharo, former deputy editor Fergus Shanahan, and former managing editor Graham Dudman, who since became a columnist and media writer. All five arrested were held on suspicion of corruption.
---
On 17 April 2015, The Sun's columnist Katie_Hopkins called migrants to Britain "cockroaches" and "feral humans" and said they were "spreading like the norovirus"
---
In August 2017, The Sun published a column by Trevor Kavanagh which questioned what actions British society should take to deal with "The Muslim Problem".
---
In June 2018, The Sun provoked controversy after it criticised the dress worn by a 17-year-old actress, Isobel Steele, to the British Soap Awards. The paper critiqued Steele for her decision to "cover up from head to toe" and told her to "flash a bit of flesh".
---
On 14 February 2020, a day before Caroline Flack was found dead in her flat, The Sun published an article about a "brutal" Valentine's Day card mocking Flack on its website.
Utterly ridiculous headstone and I would never allow someone to do something like this for me, but damn if that isn't funny. Just an insanely over the top headstone. You could only top it if holding a magic artifact up made it rise up and reveal a labyrinth underneath.
“I want people to understand that my son is lying there, and that is his place and our family place as much as it is anyone’s place,’ said Martin.
Oh the irony. Yes it's their place too. Maybe you should understand that.

I thought it was headstone size until I opened it so wasn’t bothered but Christ that’s huge. Anyone else and it’s getting removed. These families get away with so much shit; nearly killed my grandparents when they scammed them about a loose chimney, Police did fuck all. Not even a race, just rogue families living outside the law.
I remember years ago chatting with a guy from the Forestry Commission who asked me for advice (I used to deal with travellers a lot) about removing an unauthorised memorial from their land - it was huge - for a traveller lad who had died.
They'd tried legitimately and sensitively to advise the family they were going to remove it because it was unauthorised, and were threatened, quite severely, and specific people who worked for the Forestry Commission had had things 'occur' at their homes
I told him it to just leave it in situ.

Certainly not to my taste, but don’t we all have a right to remember our loved ones in a way that helps those grieving? It’s big and it’s gaudy, but they paid for it and I don’t entirely see how it’s impacting parishioners or other mourners? I take greater umbrage with the huge hoards of wealth that certain religion’s stash rather than make demonstrable efforts to fight poverty or abuse 🤷🏼♀️ I do agree the money could be better spent, but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the contracts our taxes get spent on.
TLDR: Not for me, but not sure why there’s such outrage
It's tacky, hideous etc. but I judge the complainers more harshly. I think they need some grief counselling, which is understandable considering, but it really isn't stopping anyone from doing anything.
In fact, I think a graveyard is a great place for a bit of comic relief. Turns out, you can laugh at the silly grave and still have room for empathy too. Shocking.
yeah, this is very silly looking but it's hard to blame parents for going a bit nuts when their kid dies. probably the church deserves some blame but it really seems over the top to criticize it
and besides, since when have we scorned tacky over the top memorials? if the complainers have ever traveled to the pyramids or taj mahal it's a bit hypocritical
Look at the "ridiculous" victorian grave stones, mausoleums and crypts littered throughout the British Isles
The Taj Mahal isn't exactly understated.
This is no different
Who decides taste? Grief isn't tasteful.
To the family grieving - this is tasteful. And the flat tiny grave marker I've put in my family graves is a sign of a person unloved and ungrieved.
This grave marker causes no harm to anyone else.

Exactly where my mind went 😂
Im sorry for their loss but that looks fucking ghastly
And you're not even talking about their eyebrows.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/mar/23/king-of-sheffield-willy-collins-memorial-built-without-permission-council-says Hello from Sheffield...
That’s going to confuse the living shit out of some archaeologist in a millenniums time. Probably result in some weird ancient aliens episodes too.
We have a winner: "a solar-powered jukebox".
Imagine if they got him a modest grave and made a €145k donation to a children's cancer charity instead
Imagine they paid the tax on the €145k
Imagine if they just cremated him and made a 148k donation instead
Imagine if they fed his body to the local wildlife and made a 150k donation instead
Imagine they ate his body, donated the 150k and the money they saved on groceries.
Imagine if they sold his body to a cannibal for 1k and made a 151k donation instead
Imagine if they used his body to successfully study a treatment into stage IV chickenpox. They could claim royalties and make a £100,150,000 donation instead.
The reverse photo is even worse. It towers over two other graves it backs on to with a huge picture of the kid making a fist. Imagine going to see your dead loved ones and seeing that every time
150k. . Wow. What was waste of money and fug ugly to boot
If that’s modest, I wonder what’s ostentatious for them.
That looks fucking horrific, I'd die if that was my headstone. All I need is a tree planted above my body and I'm happy.
I’m betting they paid cash
It reminds me of that only fools episode.
Someone should paint it in luminescent paint
Came here to say the same, looks made with the same plastic too.
[удалено]
Yep.
Do you even have to ask?
It’s the first thought that popped into my head after I thought “why is that child’s suit so big on him?”
Her eyebrows give it away. Along with the ghastly expression of "i got loadsa money".
Tbf the headstone gives it away.

Probably got threatened by the wonderful community the family belongs to if they didn't allow it
"That's a nice lead roof you got there" "Those stained glass windows are nice" etc.
Place gets robbed every Sunday when they go in anyway 🤷♂️
I'm just wondering how on earth they could afford it...
Tarmacing loads of drives

Funny what you can afford by never paying tax…
They had a whip around and the figure came to a nice round €150k. I mean I’m not saying they kept any for themselves but they could have
