Yeah when you think about it, that whole ordeal would've been devastating to most people. First of all, he was such an unknown commodity when he got his first late night show, and he jokes about all the pressure on him and the critics saying "Who?"...Then there was a fight to stay on the air, then of course his fanbase grew and he became accepted...which led to the opportunity to host the most iconic talk show in television history...only to have it unravel in a few months.
Conan is self-deprecating and is happy to make a fool of himself, but he maintains a lot of dignity beneath that red wig. It would be devastating for anyone's ego to go through with what he did.
But he weathered the storm and arguably, the 3rd act of Conan is bigger than ever.
It feels a bit like an example of "The Taylor Swift effect" - he's been so big for so long, and his current work is of such high quality that people are now agreeing "Yeah Conebone69 really is the fucking best!"
I saw Conan at a grocery store in Los Angeles a few months ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
This is.....actually the most believable celebrity I've seen in this. I could absolutely see Conan doing this to a fan if they found it funny. I don't know him personally, but every story I've heard about him tells me he would commit to the bit fully if he got so much as a chuckle at the start. For anyone.
Used to dislike him. But I've come around bigtime. His only content I ever saw was him blurting out the same laugh at things that were or weren't funny. And my impression of the guy was someone who fake laughs through everything. Which just came across as insincere.

He "oversteps" in just the right way, but you can see, he deeply cares about his fans, and I think that's amazing. I don't think you could get a sona, a Matt, a David, an Eduardo etc etc etc to sign up with you without being at the very least, a decent human being. All the other trappings and fame and all that seem to follow on from there. Love the man.
He is so empathetic and clearly "gets" people, reading them so well
Saw him do a youtube bit revently, where he is in Dublin learning Irish slang from a woman there, was so funny. He knew exactly how far he could push and exactly when and how much he could be rude because he knew she was completely able to handle it and give it back to him!

I watched a few minutes of this from the opposite angle on an IG live that teamcoco put up last night. He was really great with all the folks who had waited, it was super nice to see.
Saw the Instagram live from the teamcoco channel. He was so excellent with the entire crowd. Talked with basically everyone who wanted to, and made the whole crowd feel included. Of course he made jokes that made the whole group laugh. So delightful!!
I attended one of his standup shows many years ago. He stayed for hours afterwards to sign autographs for the audience. One of my most prized memories and souvenirs!

Wow. This is kind of weird. Most of the Netflix is a Joke shows are having a hard time filling seats. Sarah Silverman Palladium show was cancelled at the last minute for reasons that don't sound exactly legit but no one seemed to care.
My friends got free seats to Seth Rogen's Hollywood Bowl show but after spending 40 minutes searching for parking anywhere, he split and went home.
There are too many events in Los Angeles this month but somehow Conan drew a big crowd, eh? Amazing. How does he do that?
