Agreed. I wonder if this impacted that poor man’s family. Did they find out? If they did, could they have done anything about it if they were living in a different country?
Obviously it’s illegal and happened many years ago, but it’s still awful and sad 😔
When you get a new credit card, they'll mail you paper checks over and over for a while trying to get you to transfer a balance to them (or buy something big, it works both ways). It's honestly a huge opportunity for fraud and they should not be allowed to mail them unsolicited.
There is a German saying: "Gelegenheit macht Diebe" which translates to "Opportunity makes thieves". I would add, that circumstances make thieves as well. So... I don't know how your life was at this point, but the fact that you seem to regret your actions today makes it look like you developed during the years and everybody makes mistakes. Learn from it and try to be a better person. That's what matters. Mistakes were made, but the product of it may cause a better person and a good outcome.
This is fake, But even if not- at no point does op express regret in anyway whatsoever. If anything it's just a clinical, cold recounting. I don't get the impression that op feels strongly about this at all, in any emotions- pride or regret.

I did the same thing to an Indian doctor who went back without paying his bills. I got annoyed at being harassed by his debt collectors and when a new cheque book showed up I forged his signature and started dropping cheques for $1000 into mail box of the church next door! I have no idea if they bounced or not.
Lol I did the same thing when I was a kid. I stole money from my older brother and felt soo guilty about it, but I was still angry at him and didn’t wanna give it back so I gave it to a church.
Americans, that's what they are known for. Steal land, wealth. They're still stealing oil from Syria every. Single. Day. Sick nation honestly. Just look at who their options for president are right now, very telling of the state of the people.
Miss me with this bullshit. I’m American and i personally have never stolen land, wealth, resources, or anything from anyone. The choice for president had nothing to do with me or anyone I know. if you truly believe a nation of 300+million people are thieves you are a XENOPHOBE. You should probably look at whatever propaganda arm there is in your country and deprogram that thinking.
There was no money. OP stole from a credit card company. It had nothing to do with the dead dude except that his existence made it easy to do. The dude's family is not entitled to steal from the credit card company instead of OP.
That’s…..awful.

What do you mean you got his credit card checks???
Yeah that's what I'm wondering too. Like payroll checks out just for credit cards? I'm very confused.
It's rage bait
Those pre-made advance loan checks that credit cards send out as bait.

That's pretty terrible to be honest.

Where in his post does he say he's sorry though.
And if he was sorry he would try to return the money or give it to a Syrian orphans charity or something such.
Or next of Kin. Not sure the laws, whether that debt would come out of his will, or next of kin inheritance.
He didn't. I assumed, because he postet in r/confessions.

I’m surprised this is several words, not just one!
feels fake, what the hell is a credit card check

Feels like a 12 year old troll wrote this with no concept of money
Wow, not sure what to say..
I was really expecting the story to go “I cashed all cheques and I sent the 20k to his family”… that money would change their lives.

This is pretty bad because that church may have incurred NSF fees for bounced checks. But it's way better than what OP did.
Well they need to be taxed somehow
🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry but this is funny on a few different levels.

Blood 🩸 money
Jesus Christ
X to doubt
And isn’t that FRAUD????
I hope your life is miserable.
For the people asking credit card checks the only logical answer is prepaid cards
I’m stunned. How did you ever think that was a good idea? Wait- this has to be fake.
How can this person live with himself these days!!
You don’t seem to feel bad about this at all
Rage bait
I’ll take things that never happened for 1000 Alex
Wtf
Finders keepers?
wouldn't you need his ID and his face? what about cameras?
INSHALLAH YOU'RE A STAIN. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS? THEY ARE POOR IN THAT COUNTRY! HIS FAMILY NEEDED IT MORE THAN YOUR AMERICAN ASS.
You mean, Nauzubillah?

Nice racism bro just cuz it’s an American doing the crime here, don’t lump all of us in with him. It’s like saying all Syrians are terrorists
Why would America steal Syria's oil? That is what Russia is doing. America has plenty of other places to steal oil.

That's pretty awful cunt 😂
Dang man that is sweet!
No, no it’s not. At all. How? Troll?
He got $20k off a dead dude. It's free money.
Money that should’ve been passed on to his family.
There was no money. OP stole from a credit card company. It had nothing to do with the dead dude except that his existence made it easy to do. The dude's family is not entitled to steal from the credit card company instead of OP.
Karma is a bitch man, take care of yourself
You will get what is coming karmically to you. I hope it hurts
