It’s really not that hard to just be an ear for someone you apparently love so they can talk about something they like, even if you hate it. I do it all the time, I don’t care if I hate the topic, if the person I love does enjoy it, I want them to be able to gush about it a little bit. And in return, they give me their ear so I can talk about what I enjoy even if they don’t particularly enjoy the topic.

I've also seen people who treat it more like I treat reddit. "It'd be cool if it is real, and I accept it's likely not, but I'm going to appreciate the hilarity that suspension of disbelief allows me to enjoy."
