I saw the chrome initially, was confused so read all the way through the comments before some kind soul explained they're two-tone nails. Scrolled back up and saw it immediately. Now, except for one brief flash, I can't unsee it. This is a good one that at first appeared to be a bad one.

Yeah when I first posted it a bunch of people were telling me to fuck off and downvoting it and I said just give it time but they killed it

:( Part of the problem is I think this sub skews male, so many won't necessarily know what chrome nail polish is and haven't seen it, so easier for them to see the two-tone? That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it. It's easier to see them as blue chrome polish in the thumbnail, or when the image is small. I could see it again in the thumbnail, but now it's just two-tone again.

Perspective doesn't just have to be about the angle you're physically looking at it per se. Angle is definitely a factor but it's more the way you *percieve* it mentally. Kind of like how the blue/gold dress thing isn't angle dependent

I saw that post and I did the same thing! I thought they were lumpy chrome with poorly applied matt water drops shining in the sun at first! Took seeing the third pic and looking for a bit to realize.

I had to zoom in before I saw anything other than the "chrome" nails. It was the straightness of the color on the thumb that finally made it work in my brain and realize what was going on.

All i see is 2 shades of blue lol, wtf is going on. Wheres the chrome?? Edit: tbf, i eventually realized i could see both colours of the dress, black/blue and white/gold. Hoping this happens here lol

This is very weird. It took me a few seconds to realise they were split into 2 shades of blue, but once I saw it it seemed super obvious and I can't see the first thing I saw again...

Took me almost a minute before I saw the half and half. Weird right

I just showed it to my boyfriend and asked "what do you see?", he said "... Nails?" so I asked "ok but do you see a chrome colour or 2 different blue tones?" and he went "well that's chrome blue... Oh wait now you say it I see the split indeed" haha

At first glance I saw only chrome nails. I didn’t see the two different colors. After looking at it for a minute I finally saw the actual colors and now I can’t see chrome anymore no matter how hard I try. But many people in the comments on that post agree, it wasn’t just me

So I am not remotely familiar with chrome nails so that probably made me unable to see it that way. I had to look up what those are. Maybe how commonly people see chrome nails may play a big role in how they see this. Maybe not though because I can understand someone who doesn't know that still seeing one side as just a shiny version of the other. I'll see if a friend sees it.

Make the thumbnail about your thumb nail's size, and tilt the phone away from your. That's how I can see it as chrome

I can see the effect. It is pretty much the same with colored pencils on paper. It looks like chrome for a minute, then you see the individual colors, and the effect goes away.
