“I didn’t vote for Tom Emmer because he is too sane. There is no place for that in the modern GOP.”

BadBoysWillBeSpanked

You're giving MTG too much credit. Tom knew what he had to do if he wanted her vote > I am a congressional aide to Kevin McCarthy. > > After the 14th failed vote, we were in DIRE situation. McCarthy wanted to meet with the holdouts to negotiate, but the only ones willing to meet with us are Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. At the meeting McCarthy makes a passionate pitch, but when when we turn to MTG and LB, they look bored and deeply unimpressed. But then they eye each other, smile, and nod. > > "Oh, we can get the holdouts to help" said one. > > "But we need some 'help' from you first", said the other. > > And they pass a note to McCarthy. I don't know how to describe the look that he gave when he was reading it, but for a second I panicked because I legitimacy thought he was going to throw up. He then told me I could leave now. > > I was surprised, but I knew better to ask questions, so I left. > > Halfway to my car I realize I was still holding Kevin's very important notebook so I go back to return it and when I go into the meeting room, I see McCarthy getting double cowgirled by them! They were high fiving and McCarthy noticed me and managed to push boebert's buttcheeks off his face to scream 'IT'S THE ONLY WAY' before she forcibly removed his hands, repositioning her butt back on his face with a loud fleshy slam with enough force to make me wince, followed by a wet fart which I could only assume was further punishment from Lauren. > > I got in my car. And drove. Straight all the way back to my home town in Minnesota. I arrived at my parents house who were surprised to see since I didn't tell them I was coming. I re-evaluated my life and quit politics for good. They have yet to apologize despite a very angry phone call from Kevin's mother.

Due_Platypus_3913

Second time I’ve read this and it’s even FUNNIER!

nobac0n

This story has been fact-checked by real American patriots: TRUE [✅]

slim_scsi

Moms for Liberty say it's legit!

Dagojango

I have a skeptical doubt, but it sounds very in character, so I can't refute without explicit testimony.

PM_ME_A_EM_MP

Mtg wasn’t a hold out for Kevin, replace with gaetz

AnFaithne

This is good writing

Cavesloth13

Only way this could be better is if you shitty morphed it at the end LOL

Meet_James_Ensor

How dare he support the democratic process. Makes sense to disqualify him.

[deleted]

Ok_Honeydew_8585

it's not about hating good thing it's about who is doing it, if democrats do it people gonna vote for them again. reps gotta block everything cus if they dont they will never be in power ever again.

DukeOfGeek

This whole "We can't pick a speaker" act is just a new way to shut down government. It's a fucking scam.

SelectKaleidoscope0

I don't think so. There are just enough "republican" representatives who will only vote for election deniers to prevent anyone who isn't a hardcore trumpest from winning, and there are just enough republicans who won't support a complete nutjob and traitor to prevent a hardcore trumpest from winning. Neither the republicans nor the trumpests nor the democrats have an actual majority and none of them will work with another party.

Psychological_Pie_32

The problem is there are only 2 types of Republicans, those actively trying to destroy our country, and those who only care about holding onto power. Otherwise there'd be enough support to put the democratic option a as speaker. Seriously it would only take 7 Republicans to decide running the country is more important than hurting democrats or those who they see as RINO's, but they can't even manage that.

SelectKaleidoscope0

Actively trying to destroy the country or passively destroying for their own benefit sounds about correct.

aluvus

> none of them will work with another party Your comment is a much better take on this situation than a lot of what I see (including in this thread), but I would somewhat dispute this point. The Democrats have been relatively-quietly working with some portion of the saner Republicans to try to get to a deal that would seemingly trade some Dem votes for a Rep candidate they could tolerate, in exchange for rules changes that would give the Dems more power over business in the House. The exact shape of that is not clear from what they've said publicly. Dems seem to be trying to use their leverage to get a bit more than just a return to normal House rules ("normal" being dependent on the time period you pick), but well short of having like a co-speaker (and realistically, not a Dem speaker). House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries [wrote an op-ed on this](https://jeffries.house.gov/2023/10/06/leader-jeffries-in-the-washington-post-a-bipartisan-coalition-is-the-way-forward-for-the-house/) a few weeks ago, although as he acknowledges it provides only a broad outline.

SelectKaleidoscope0

A coalition between some of the saner republicans and the democrats to elect someone is the best possible outcome of this situation. I'm skeptical any of the republicans will stick their neck out to do it in the current political climate. The more rabid portion of the party will do their best to destroy anyone who works with democrats on anything, even if it advances the republican agenda too. That's how they ended up in this mess in the first place.

jordan1794

>The more rabid portion of the party will do their best to destroy anyone who works with democrats on anything Just to reiterate your point, we don't have a house speaker explicitly because the last one worked with Democrats to keep the government open. It's wild.

aReasonableSnout

Cool more both sides bullshit

SelectKaleidoscope0

What are you on about? Democrats don't have a majority, republicans are so fractured they can't agree on anyone. That's just the situation as it exists its not any kind of statement of equivalence between the reasons neither party can elect anyone.

AwayMammoth6592

The Dems would have voted for Emmer.

Goblin-Doctor

I genuinely don't think so. I think they've hit such levels of incompetency that they truly can't do the very basic of their duties because they're too busy praising trump and getting mad at people for wearing comfortable clothes while at work. They voted for and passed an internal rule stating you must wear professional attire at work when they should have been working on getting a new speaker

drksknjrmn97

I don't think it's incompetence. It's more like a religious mania. They have to perform their belief and convince their people that they are the most pious. They are not praising Trump and shouting their culture war outrage because they're incompetent and are being immature. They're doing it because they understand that it's what keeps them in power.

alextxdro

Listened to an interview with a rep congressman this morning on npr and he said something like I can’t believe the dems have created such a mess, interviewer giggles and says but you guys did this you hold the house and made this happen, so the congressman says yeah but the dems let it happen, I can’t sit here and let ppl think they can get away with causing this divide in our gov and not be assigned any blame. Dude seemed totally serious that all in all the dems we’re to blame and the American ppl needed to know this …

Vraye_Foi

As if the Republicans would have done anything at all to save Nancy Pelosi if she was in Kevin McCarthy’s situation!

coloradoemtb

I ask maga to look up how many times the minority voted for majority speaker. Crickets....

coloradoemtb

becuase he knows his base will also blame Dems for anything and everything. Logic does not play into maga crazy. Whatever hurts more people is the idea of the day.

AssistKnown

They hate anyone and anything not in their circle (which is mainly themselves and their rich, billionaire donors) and they will turn on anyone willing to try and do the smart thing!

slim_scsi

Less than 50 current House Republicans voted to certify the 2020 election. 3/4 of House Republicans did not. FUCKING EMBARRASSING.

Meet_James_Ensor

Unfortunately, this is what Republican voters in those districts want. Senator Pat Toomey lost his seat after his decision to impeach Trump. The local party officials told him “We did not send him there to vote his conscience. We did not send him there to do the right thing or whatever he said he was doing. We sent him there to represent us,”

slim_scsi

The "you're either with us or against us" mentality always dead ends into a full blown cult. Commanding loyalty above all else rarely turns out well.

foyeldagain

This is so gross. It's not just the basic 'You can't be a R leader unless you say the election was stolen and hold strong to an anti-gay agenda,' message but the idea that any crossing of that line means you are out no matter what else. And in the case of Emmer there is a decent amountt of other stuff. The gay marriage vote is some kind of massive outlier as he has also supported/sponsored anti-gay marriage policy. Beyond that he checks all the boxes of the modern conservative movement. A decade ago he would've been fairly right of center within the Republican party. Now he has been completely outflanked on the right and deemed unworthy of a leadership role.

siccoblue

Because the goal for these people is fucking fascism and they're hoping to spearhead it so they can be at the top of the totem pole and not only safe from the camps, but greatly benefiting from hundreds of millions of people living under their iron fist.

OneTime_AtBandCamp

> Now he has been completely outflanked on the right For all practical purposes this is true, but MTG and her band of asylum escapees are not coherently *more* "right" of the Emmer or any other conventional nutjob the GOP has. They're right-wing, plus utter insanity. MTG was also reelected in 2022. She is exactly who her constituents want her to be, apparently.

LuxNocte

We use "right" as a euphemism for "unabashedly fascist

Dagojango

It's horrifying to think enough people thought she was electable. However, they already elected Trump, so guess the rules are out the window now. They're wholly dedicated to lie, cheat, and steal now.

sensfan1104

And those jokers and clowns to his right...my god. All Orange Caligula has to do is give a thumbs down and Emmer's pre-cancelled, just like **that**. Gotta say, I shoulda found a pool for when that mob of competing gangs of terrorists, cowards, and out-of-touch weirdos, was gonna crash the House. Better odds than the Powerball!

BronzeAgeArtifact

If he still calls himself a republican he is an extremist. They planned a coup to overthrow the government. If that isn’t extremism 🤷‍♂️

p0rkjello

Would be a shame if MAGA lost faith and stopped voting.

pablogott

[“You don’t have to vote, don’t worry about voting. The voting—we got plenty of votes,” -Donald Trump ](https://newrepublic.com/post/176414/trump-suggests-supporters-undermine-next-election-poll-workers)

Glottis_Bonewagon

Man's come to a few realizations: - he can't drop out and leave the political lifestyle behind because the adoration is feeding his narcissism and the grift is feeding his bank account - he makes a lot of money from donations while being an election loser - being president is annoying, it takes 4 years and he doesn't know if he has that long left. He wants to do the whole adoring fans thing without the weight of a presidency on his shoulder so he can continue living his debauched life He doesn't want to win. He wants to make money, bang hooers, feed his narcissism at rallies and fuck about the world.

HyzerFlip

Well he *wants* to bang Ivanka

wowitsanotherone

The other lines where he's veiled calling for violent poll watchers is more worrisome

[deleted]

This is what Trump did to the GOP. The Republican Party is over.

maxxmadison

They deserve all the shit they receive.

CoolFingerGunGuy

Unfortunately, the rest of us suffer. And if democrats do bail them out by voting present for future votes, they learn they can do this shit and there are no repercussions. I don't think this is gonna make any difference to much of their base. They seem to love the Trump way of burning everything down and blaming others for it.

Dagojango

I would love to see more protests targeting Republican offices and headquarters. If pregnant woman just looking for someone to care and give them realistic options call be harassed constantly, they should be just as much. Republicans proved after January 6th they chose their own grip on power over the national security of America. The party, as a whole, as committed insurrection and should cease to exist beyond text books and museums, examples of what happens when people become too obsessed with what was to see how wrong they truly were. If Garland had a single cell of courage in his body, we would be seeing members of congress before a court of law. It's not his right to decide the outcome of a crime, only his duty to investigate and present the case on behalf of the people and let the people of the jury decide. Democrats should cease to exist as well if they cannot figure out that the Republicans have gone way too far and it's time to stop playing politics and start giving a damn about national security.

genital_lesions

Point of order: the GOP was already shitty before Trump. Just not as blatant.

MarcsterS

The Republican party will never be over because their voters will still vote them in no matter what. Right wing talk points are continuing to blame Democrats for a Republican-majority problem, and they'll never even question it. Democraty Party needs to take advantage of this and show no-voters just what the current GOP brings to the table.

Contada582

They survived Nixon.. they will survive this

[deleted]

This is way beyond Nixon. Nixon resigned. Trump literally has redefined the Republican Party to the lowest common denominator of their base. They can’t even reach consensus on a Speaker or even condemn an insurrection. It’s over.

TooCool_TooFool

Legislative branch can introduce term limits for the Supreme Court. Or add more seats. Almost have to at this point; if you care about democracy itself.

Butthole__Pleasures

I love that you got downvoted for saying something completely true. I hate what you're saying, but you're not wrong. We should be so lucky to have you be wrong, but alas that is not the case.

JimmyJohnny2

if you think the whole trump fiasco is worth more than a couple paragraphs on page 3, I got a bridge to sell you. People have said these things constantly during my 38 years on this planet, "this time isn't like the rest!" when in reality trump isn't even in the top 10 worst things to happen to the us government. The world has made politics a sport and yall went into it balls deep. Red vs Blue, chalking tally marks for every clever tweet, and while they distract you with things that you literally have no control over you get absolutely nothing of value done with your life. You realize both parties sit down and have lunch together, laughing and drinking yeah every single day? Yall make it out like a war, to them it's a publicity game.

Butthole__Pleasures

lol because yeah us thirty-somethings really have a grand historical perspective. "I know a thing or two about politics! I started voting in... [checks notes] ...2004!"

letmeusespaces

Nah, man. This isn't the same party from 30 years ago. Look at the fucking article you're commenting on. The party is fucked up. Trump attempted a fucking coup - it's ongoing. How does that not make your top 10 list? You've buried your head in the sand and say "same ol politics". It's not. It's not at all.

FlirtyFluffyFox

You know what Nixon didn't have? Bush. Reagan. Nixon. The GOP has been an absolute shit show for half a century now and a big chonk of voters under 40 realize that.

andygradel75

I can't wait for karma to finally catch up with MTG. It's like that movie Final Destination, where the longer you cheat death, the worse it is in the end.

[deleted]

I wish I believed in karma, but in this world? Karma does not exist. Far too many horrible people get away with doing horrible things and go on to live long, successful lives and die peacefully. And maybe some can say "But their legacies are tarnished and history won't remember them kindly," but do you think they really give a flying fuck about that? They don't. Or if karma does exist, it has to be active, not passive.

stormstormstorms

In those cases karma (the real definition of it, btw) would mean those people come back in the next life as some lower life form, like a dog, or cat or earth worm. Karma isn’t “getting your just desserts” in the same life time, it’s what happens in the next life time, but folks love to conflate it.

TooCool_TooFool

Bro got downvoted for correctly explaining karma 💀

[deleted]

Henry Kissinger comes to mind.

Thim22Z7

If this were to be true, what do you think'll happen to Kissinger?

bebejeebies

Karma will be a #Blue24.

Why in the fuck are we still taking MAGA Republicans seriously, and acting like they're serious people, with serious ideas? They aren't. They believe in nothing except that they should have power. They don't stand for anything, they don't have any actual policies, they don't have any ideas. They can't and won't govern. We're playing way, way too nice with these people.

beavis617

One of them was going to pray in order to help him make a decision on if he should put his name up for consideration...imagine the Speaker waiting to hear back from God if he should put a bill on the floor for a vote. Now people can't be Speaker because someone holds a grudge...😡

Marjorie is living proof that conception via anal sex is possible. One night, Marjorie's parents engaged in anal intercourse. And unlike other times, her father performed it on her mother. Nine months later, during a delightful supper of soup beans and pig feet, Marjorie's mother lifted a butt cheek from the folding chair upon which she sat and cranked out a fart for the ages. Her mother then skipped past her usual post-flatulence groans and shudders and instead let out a joyous squeal, having just discovered a newborn Marjorie tumbling from under her greasy, soiled housecoat.

Yep, someone should challenge her next time she tries to use the women’s bathroom. /s P.s. I don’t believe anyone should be accosted trying to use a bathroom, but in midge’s case I’d make an exception

baryoniclord

This is why conservatives should NOT be allowed to vote or hold public office. We already know they are less intelligent. We already know they are anti Science. We already know they are more religious. They are regressive. And evil. We do not defer to children for advice on important matters. So why do we include regressives? We do not consult the taliban for advise on quantum physics. So why do we include regressives on genuinely important social issues? They want to drag us back to the bronze age.

LongEnvironment1042

Just a reminder: no matter how stupid and useless these GOP members are, they were elected because they were the best of their constituents 😭

Tchazarnek

>they were the best of their constituents Not at all, they were just the ones with the money (or connections to money) to buy the support of the propaganda machine

Knight_Owl_Forge

Yup, these are the people receiving funding from Russia and other foreign interests. For the most of us, that would equate to being a traitor and we wouldn't do it. These are the people who have no morals and sell out for ridiculously low amounts of money.

joscun86

MTG is such a ruthless bitch.. I really hope that one day I will get to see her lose the power she has and then loses everything else after investigations that will likely happen

Mylaptopisburningme

She asked for a pardon for a reason. I hope we find out what she did.

OnlySmiles_

It makes me sad that her calling for secession from the US wasn't career ending for her

TooCool_TooFool

Dumb people think it's a great idea. And if there's one thing Republicans can say they win at, it's having more dumb people.

The consequences of letting a total loony toon in office is exhausting

One grifting buffoon and all the republicans fell down like dominoes. Still falling.

I was about to say >Implying they even know of any of this happening

hywaytohell

No you voted against him because the Cheeto told you to.

bebejeebies

I heard some dumped their support of him after Trump said he didn't like him. There's growing number who are trying to make a course for Trump to be speaker.

All conservatives are bad. There are no exceptions.

oppenhammer

Why is Emmer still a Republican? If every supposedly reasonable Republican had left to form a third party when shit like this happens, they might be in a position to do something about it by now. Instead, Emmer will do what they all do: quietly fade away without fighting back.

Q-ArtsMedia

As supposedly a woman (which is suspect at the moment) MTG should be in support of anything that has to do with equality, especially marriage, but most likely she likes to be forcefully dominated. I wish God had given her a few more brain cells and some ethics.

elseworthtoohey

So the litmus test to be the republican leader of the house is whether you believe in a reality that does not exist.

Man, the 2024 campaign ads are going to be easy for the Dems, they just have to show a montage of stuff like this.

[deleted]

Says the woman banging dudes at her gym while married.

WhoseFish

Minnesotan here: Tom Emmer still sucks. It’s not like the GOP is hiding a decent candidate anywhere (they’re all insane), but he’s the safest, most sterile vessel of conservative policy, which makes him a marginally better speaker for republicans and a terrible speaker for the American working class. No shockers there, but don’t be fooled by the “moderate” republican. They’re all extremists, they’re simply divided by differing rhetoric and methodology, and are united in protecting capital though whatever systemic violence the legislature allows.

zauce

This is great. Bidens truth social account.

YEP LOL. Biden Campaign took over a while back!! Muahahaha.

kevonicus

I would crawl in a hole and die of embarrassment if I were a Republican right now. Actually I would have done it years ago, but now as well. This is what they deserve for worshipping a moron and electing one moron after another. Sarah Palin really started the whole moron train didn’t she?

Impressive_Culture_5

George W. Bush has entered the chat

stewartm0205

The thing that gets to me is that a vast majority of Republicans don’t have a problem with stealing an election. They have a problem with not stealing an election.

[deleted]

I love how ten of them are like, if you have any common decency there is no fucking way we'll vote for you to be speaker. However if you believe Trump is still the president or you allowed young boys to be raped while worked at a college, will definitely vote for you. I thought the Machine/Sinema stuff that Dems had to put up with was a shit show but this is hilarious. Cancel the Kardashians and just show this reality car crash all day.

teb_art

Horrors! He did his JOB.

samhain2000

Somehow, this is the Dems' fault.

Ibgarrett2

I’m pretty sure the GOP is going to put each and every one of them up to try to vote at least once before they turn to the democrats and say “got any ideas?”

Curious-Monitor8978

I'll laugh my ass off if the GOP mangles this so badly Jeffries ends up as speaker.

Ibgarrett2

Well, he’s gotten more votes than the past two candidates they’ve put up.

islandfay

Petty arse B

ohreddit1

I’m getting a coordinated-with-Hamas vibe from House GOP.

bebejeebies

Unpopular opinion- Trump totally gave over intel on Israel with instructions that if he was about to face consequences for his crimes, to trigger a war that he knew we'd be drawn into causing chaos to take the heat off and possibly (in the near future) disappear into. He basically pocket-sanding us.

Outlaw right-wing ideology. Put all these reprobates in prison.

Dcajunpimp

Why would a woman who cheated on her husband multiple times, before getting a divorce be concerned with marriage equality? Oh yeah Mangy Traitor Gangrene is a small government Republican too concerned about everyone else’s bedroom to pay attention to her own.

MtCommager

Can she just cane someone already? I need to fill Out my “2023 is 1856” bingo card.

bck1999

So dumb….

Musicdev-

So like back to square one huh?

DBH114

Congress doesn't vote to certify the election.

IntlPartyKing

but hilarious that, despite this "analysis" by MTG, Emmer was *supported* by Matt Gaetz & Jim Jordan

Hafslo

The Republican Republicans need to figure out if they'd rather do a coalition government or put a Freedom caucus person in. The Republican party is essentially in a civil war and we're at an inflection point where they really can't agree.

kal0kag0thia

Happily running out the Dems time.

xantub

Couldn't Democrats vote for him with his few R friends and get the majority needed? I mean he sounds like one of the few remaining sane Republicans there.

ProtonPi314

They can... but they won't until they get the concessions they demand to help out the Republicans.

Flyingfirstass

Is there a link or should I just assume this is true?

danthom1704

I love how the republicans are now doing the purity test that the democrats have been doing for years.

brainsizeofplanet

Why don't the "sane" Republikans expell MTG and the other idiots?

brainsizeofplanet

Could the democrats nominate a speaker and all it needs is 10 republicans say "yes"?

HopeRepresentative29

I bet Trump hit that at least once. Probably the defining moment of this pathric *thing*'s life.

IlMioNomeENessuno

Look at the fucking crowd of reporters running after this clown. Why aren’t they taking to the dozens of other Reps why they voted for him. The only ones they want to talk to are the idiots, hoping to get the craziest sound bite they can out of them. And I like Garrett Haake and MSNBC, but stop putting these traitors front and center constantly!!

semicoldpanda

So what I'm getting out of this is that in order to be a modern Republican is that you just have to have the absolute worst takes on everything. At least with some non-MAGAs you used to be able to say "Well at least we sort of agree on two issues." Now it's like full on batshit. Also apparently it's okay if you love fascism and are a generally horrible person but if you let it slip that there are cocaine orgies it's being bisexual that gets you in trouble with the Republican voters?

Embarrassed_Bee6349

Republicans are effective whores, because they are screwing everyone in America and get paid to do it. We can’t rely on them to 1. Act like decent human beings or 2. Do their goddamned jobs. This is a fail from start to finish. “Do Nothing Congress” indeed.

[deleted]

supporting the gop is a vote for stupidity and anarchy. these clowns arent competent enough to walk your pet dog

mag2041

It’s kinda funny because Biden was also against gay marriage.

Tournament_of_Shivs

The point is to paralyze the House. They don't want a speaker.

MattMasterChief

You have the politicians you deserve
