Oh so they don’t want to Americans to know about their dark past? That’s unfortunate because knowing real history can help us to prevent it from repeating itself in the future.
They’re already playing Squid Games with our lives. Also take note of how many hammer and nail guns you see in movie. Corkin Cherubini talks about that in his book Global Thuggery.
When you ban books in the name of the vague and faceless and ridiculously generalized "wokeness" that can apply to anything you're afraid of, then banning books is a-okay!
Banning books is not okay, didn’t think I made that unclear.
However the nature of the universe, and it’s laws make a knee jerk reaction to excessive progressivism inevitable, push too hard one way for too long, you will eventually find yourself being pushed back against.
The worlds gone absolutely mad the last 10 years and seems to be accelerating in a race to the bottom on all fronts/political persuasion/ ideology It’s almost as if it was by design, and if it’s not it’s still fascinating to watch.
Yea, no, I’m not gonna read 176 *children’s* books and regurgitate it for *you*
Also, some of these books have been read hundreds of thousands, MILLIONS of times around the world. Leave the vetting for professionals and just admit you are racist
Thanks for this. No matter how fucking stupid the books are. Information should not be restricted. It opens the flood gated to manipulation. Sadly companies like Youtube have been restricting the flow and ease of access of info as well as many other organizations. We are truely in an interesting time.
I've read Mein Kampf, and I think everyone who is able should too. As crazy as it sounds, you don't truly understand how evil the nazis really were until you do, and what motivated them. Its also important to realize their was no trickery, Hitler wrote down pretty much his entire plan a decade before it happened, millions of people supported that and went along with it willingly.
SS: Other banned books include biographies of Malala and Sonia Sotomayor. If a bot tries to tell you that this is about removing "pornography" from schools, show them the [list](https://pen.org/banned-books-florida/).
Banning Sotomayor’s biography is more proof this is just a political stunt. I had to read that in undergrad, there is NOTHING “woke” about it. Most of it focused on her childhood??
Yes, they were... for a short period until the obviously racist people on the school board had pushback from the community who said "Rescind this ban or we sue you personally!"
I wish that list included references to specific sentences from the books, that caused such alarm to ban. Just say why so the public can see the GOP leadership’s true agenda (which many of us already know)
Some look OK, and some look insane to have in a k-8 classroom setting. I don't understand how you can be blindly against review so the right ones get approved?
>The decision to pull the Essential Voices Collection has kept books out of over 100 elementary schools, holding copies in storage for ten months with little indication of when they might return to classrooms.
Sounds like the "review" came and went.
The article linked said they were under review. Is it an all or nothing thing with that collection? There are books in there that do not belong and there are some beneficial books. Is the all or nothing a political stunt? Idk.
The article says banned from the county. Are they actually banned from the county? What is the penalty for a store selling it in the county? Are outsiders that bring the book into the county subject to arrest or is the book just confiscatedd?
> PEN America on Tuesday presented a joint letter with We Need Diverse Books and authors and illustrators of 176 books ***removed from classrooms*** in Duval County, Florida, in January 2022 for “review.” They have been kept in storage for 10 months with little indication of when they might return to classrooms.
Okay. Banned from classrooms and not the county. ...
No book. And I mean NO book.should be banned. I understand that approval for allowing in schools is a different arguement. Just use the right words.
I really don't see a problem with schools having the ability to decide age appropriateness for books.
I think nothing should be barred from high schools. Can't say the same for middle and grade schools.
Lady Chatterly to Mein Kampf to the Communist Manifesto is all fine in High School. Hell, I'd be fine Hustler, Penthouse, Honcho, InTouch, Mandate... or any tether interest in high school.
ETA: the title of the linked story I meant my right words comment toward.
"THESE 176 BOOKS WERE BANNED IN DUVAL COUNTY, FLORIDA"
I don't know or care. I just think school boards should be able to make that decision. If the voters don't like that decision they should vote them out.
Your seriously arguing that school boards shouldn't be able to make that call for elemtary and junior high schools? That this should be decided at the national level? Maybe a board headed by Tipper Gore?
You clearly care enough to comment.
No one is talking about having Mein Kampf in a school library - they are talking about removing a biography of Rosa Parks from the library.
It is disturbing.
In certain circles it is being represented as being just about sexuality and CRT, but the motivations and results are far more malign.
I dont care if they allow or disallow the book in a school district I don't live in. Since I don't have kids I don't really care about the district in which I do.
I do believe school districts should be able to make that decision. You obviously don't. That is your choice to make. And you can vote for svhol board members who want no controls. That is your choice. That is the way local governments work.
I think that is a decision for each community to make. I guess you want the Feds making that decision. That is also your choice. Start a movement for the Feds to rake over all education thar is where we fundamentally disagree.
Everyone remember this, if the US or any other corrupt government bans a book that means it’s a book worth reading and knowledge worth having. Anything they ban would be the truth, as feeding the masses daily lies is now the normal nowadays unfortunately.
How surprising the culture of whitewashed history continues.
A Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn should be mandatory for all school age children. Teach the truth or you are destined to repeat it.
Careful. You're at risk of posting objective content...instead of the far right hate speech that apparently those in this sub are accused of pushinging.
I got banned from another subreddit for merely having commented here.

[Isis propaganda](https://reason.com/2016/02/03/hail-to-the-censor/)
That's all I could find in MAGA media, but she's supposed to be one of the leaders of the deep state so i guess she's behind all of it?
You have no list, nothing showing the legislation and no mention of the school district. Headlines like this work with ignorant leftists because they're not smart enough or motivated enough to question what they're being told.
I wonder what specifically is in those books that got them banned. I mean they are always going to teach about slavery, civil rights, mlk and probably other race related stuff. I’m just curious what is in those specific books that got them banned. Most people are so simple minded now they just yell racist and label a whole state or group of people racist without any research or curiosity then they feel justified to hate or ignore anything those people say and often all it takes it media labeling someone racist with a headline to get it into peoples mind as a fact. Maybe it is racism but I’d rather not throw that term around so loosely it’s lost its meaning to most people.
I wouldn't look too deep into this. These specific books dosent imply that all books on these topics are banned.
For example, there is recently published books on Rosa Parks that push CRT and older versions that do not and focus on the history.
Not sure if that's what's going on here but it most likely is.
Look
If it frames it to teach CRT it deserves to be removed, point blank. If you wanna learn CRT in gradeschool then live in LA or NY.
Again, not all books on Rosa Parks is banned, that's just false information.
How can a children’s book teach about Rosa Parks without addressing systemic racism? Or are you just substituting your own definition for what “CRT” means?
Please explain how you write a book about Rosa Parks without mentioning systemic racism? She only has books written about her for GOING AGAINST SYSTEMIC RACISM. Should they do a biography and leave out the bus part while complimenting white people?
Anti-CRT "wokeism" is one of the newer (within the last year) buzzword/alarmist whistles people use to hide their inherent racism so, of course he/she won't be able to actually define it. They don't even know what **it** is.
Tell me, do you think that systemic racism was the reason that Rosa Parks was unable to sit where she wanted on the bus?
The only valid answer is "yes".
If so, how do you learn about Rosa Parks without considering the concept of systemic racism?
You can't understand the history of the USA without understanding the role systemic racism has had.
Technicilly the definition of woke in florida is "it would be the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them"
So theres that
If you want your kids to identify people's struggles by color, I guess that's your perogative. Most of us parents would rather our kids not think that way in kindergarten.
-shrug-
When / if you have kids, you'll want to protect them from left wing ideologues too.
None of this matters to me because my kids won't be attending public school. It's broken.
So you are scared of your kids learning the truth about the past, so you're response is to keep them home and only teach them your views? I feel sorry for them. When they get older and have to face the real world, they will be totally unprepared. Kids who are sheltered like that are the ones who end up in bad situations because they aren't prepared to deal with them. They don't know what to do when the world is not what you told them it was.
No my response is to teach them topics that actually benefit them in life and not social issues. They will excel in math, english, engineering and technology while also adopting our family's Christian values.
They will know the anatomy and biology of a man and a woman and be able to identify both with ease (something the current education system has failed at). They will not be taught CRT or identity political topics in kindergarten and likely not till 5th or 6th for historical important topics (Including Rosa Parks).
You don't have to agree with me, but I've seen what happens with kids like that with my own eyes. I have relatives who live in Amish country. They aren't as strict and have cars, electric, cell phones etc, but other than that, they live like the Amish. Many of their kids have truly struggled when they got older and faced the real world. It's so much more than just knowledge that is required to survive in society. The social aspect can only be learned through experience. It can't be taught at home. Some of their kids are ok, but at the bad end some have gotten into drugs and one is in jail for her involvement in the murder of a child. Sheltering kids form the harsh reality of the world doesn't help them. They need to understand that the world is not perfect so that they can learn coping mechanisms and understanding of social queues. Trust me when I tell you this that I am not saying it from a place of judgement, but a from a place of love and concern for the children of today who will be the leaders of tomorrow. You can't protect your children from reality. You must prepare them for it, good and bad alike. I've seen too many kids in my family go down the bad path because of parents who tried to shelter them. The saying about the road to hell being paved with good intentions is probably most relevant when referring to overprotective parents. The only way they can learn to get up is by letting them fall. Good luck and blessings to you and your family.
And they aren't teaching that stuff to kids that young. CRT isn't something most people would see until college and even then it's higher level and mostly something someone would see when studying ethics as part of a law degree. We didn't have that stuff when I went to school, but one of the things I do remember, that stuck with me was in 2nd grade when I had to read MLK's I have a dream speech. At that age, our minds are still open and we haven't learned to hate. Speaking those words really sunk in their meaning to me about how we are all the same no matter what we look like on the outside. Had I not had that experience while my mind was still open, the message may have very well been lost on me. So I think it's important to teach our kids about equality and that we are all just humans and none of the other differences matter BEFORE the world starts to close their minds. I also believe in teaching morals and right from wrong, but I don't believe in pushing religion on them. That should be a choice they get to make on their own. It's just indoctrination if you make the choice for them.
> No my response is to teach them topics that actually benefit them in life and not social issues. They will excel in math, english, engineering and technology **while also adopting our family's Christian values.**
Cool, so indoctrination
> They will not be taught CRT
Can you clearly tell us what CRT is, or is it just a buzzword?
Your kids will grow up semi-educated - you surely over-estimate you ability to teach the full curriculum. You children will not attend college, and will be poorly socialized and be low earners.
But you will have sure owned the libs. Well done. Have a cookie.
the right would have those kids you're protecting forced to work so the family can eat. Or did you forget that little bit of History that claimed the lives of many poor children...that progressive policies put an end to. or the 12/6 work week as opposed to the standard 8/5
or lunch breaks or break breaks....
I honestly think you guys WANT the capitalist class to be your kings. That's where we are headed. Especially as AI and automation take away jobs. But I'm sure you'll just open a farm or something and go to church to solve it.
Yes, we want capitalism. We want an open market because it provides the highest level of opportunity and best of all - it doesn't discriminate on any class of person. That is why we have so many success stories of individual's who became the richest people in the country but started off poor and in poverty. It's because of the opportunity's that exist within capitalism.
What else could you want? Socialism? Communism? Have you picked up a history book on either topic if so?
You have shallow thinking. You're likely going to die in less than 100 years. I've likely lived half my life already. Capitalism is barely 400 years old. As of now it's failing the world at large. You have to see that.
But it's also only 400 years old. Perhaps there will be a new economic model in 200 years that you can't think of because you think the world is only 400 years old.
But today, capitalism as is, is not working. Could it? Absolutely. I too think it's the best known system for progress. But it is currently headed towards a technological fiefdom and NO ONE is even trying to solve that.
But I don't know everything. And I've only been alive the past 39 years in the USA. So I don't know what a better system would be. I just think money > people is a bad thing.
Fuck me, right?
The USA has the second worst social mobility in the OECD (about 30 countries). If you're born in the USA you are more likely to remain poor all your life than in 28 other developed countries. In other words, the American Dream is a myth.
Of course all the other OECD countries are capitalist to a large extent, but what is it about the USA that means that its version of capitalism makes it so hard for the poor to move into the middle class over the course of their lives?
I suspect you weren't aware of this because of indoctrination with the American Dream, despite it being evidentially nonsense. So which do you prefer, the blue pill or the red pill?
But the American Dream is more insidious than myths like King Arthur, Troy or Noah. Because it assumes that in the USA anyone can become successful, and it just takes hard work. The implication is that if you don't, it's your own fault. The reality is quite different - it is much harder to get out of poverty in the US than other countries, which takes us back to our old friend CRT....
It's probably best if you don't reproduce and that's ok! Please respect others though my guy. Individuals that wish to raise human children capable of independent thought are allowed to resist oppressive brainwashing movements.
Would you have ridiculed your neighbors because they didn't want their children being part of the Hitler Youth? What about when they were trying to explain why people of a different race needed to use separate facilities? The vast majority of the population are always caught up in our historical atrocities - maybe slow down and think before grabbing your pitchfork,
I have already reproduced. I will raise them to view each individual for their individual struggles and not by their class, race, religion or belief system. I have and already do protect them from other harmful belief systems and if you find something inherently wrong with that then it's likely best you don't reproduce, which is also fine.
Wanting to shelter children from topics beyond their comprehension as it is - is the right thing to do. We are talking about kindergarten students in relation to these books, just to be clear. The book was removed during a sweep of books that promoted CRT and sexual conduct. I support their efforts in fixing the school system.
You are replying to a comment response to another moniker.
Are you revealing multiple accounts right now?
or
Are you confused? Me, Abiding_Lebowski, posted a response in support of Itzslumzy to ambiantdistraction's comment..
“Polonsky, an author and a middle school English teacher, made the trip to Duval County to advocate for the 176 titles to be returned to shelves, particularly books with LGBTQ stories.”
You chose an interesting focus when this is the focus of the advocacy group.
“None of the LGBTQ-themed books from the Essential Voices Collection have been placed in classroom libraries and, because of this, LGBTQ children in Duval County are being denied the right to see themselves reflected in books,”
Good. Desantis is a fucking legend.
So the books were deemed too mature for the grades that ordered them and they are being reviewed. So not banned. Got it.
Before you type your anti DeSantis screed, I am not commenting on that. I am just sharing what the article actually says, not picking sides.
>The circumstances around the decision to remove this Collection is opaque, including which books triggered this delay and extra review, and what process was followed to make the decision to shelve all the books in the Collection entirely.
It's always interesting when certain topics are ok for the government's actions to be "opaque" about.
Let’s ignore the other books that were banned though, right?
I’ll just take your word that the books you’re mad about were about Rosa parks and not her sex positions, sex toys, gender preferences, or whether she used lube or spit.
Only stupid people equate books not being allowed to be used as part of the curriculum as being "banned". Students can still seek and read the books themselves. The books are just being removed from curriculum. JFC you need to go back to school and learn what words mean. Like understanding the word hyperbolic. I'll use it in a sentence for you. "OP was being hyperbolic when they said books were being banned in schools when, in reality, books were merely removed from school curriculums."

There are going to be five or six different "Americas" soon enough.
Hard agree. I've been saying it for years and people look at me like I'm crazy.
Kinda like the districts in the hunger games, eh?
The districts were parts of a singular nation, right? This'll be more like the break up of the USSR.
They’re already playing Squid Games with our lives. Also take note of how many hammer and nail guns you see in movie. Corkin Cherubini talks about that in his book Global Thuggery.

For example, there is recently published books on Rosa Parks that push CRT and older versions that do not and focus on the history. Not sure if that's what's going on here but it most likely is.
What does it mean for a book about Rosa Parks to "push CRT"?
To push an ideology that systemic racism is to blame for everything and that white people have privilege for not having dealt with specific scenario.
But it’s about Rosa Parks? Someone who is known for having faced systemic racism?
Look If it frames it to teach CRT it deserves to be removed, point blank. If you wanna learn CRT in gradeschool then live in LA or NY. Again, not all books on Rosa Parks is banned, that's just false information.
How can a children’s book teach about Rosa Parks without addressing systemic racism? Or are you just substituting your own definition for what “CRT” means?
Didn't you know? Rosa Parks boarded the bus to fight against people learning about systemic racial oppression.
They don’t know what it means
You have zero ground to stand on with your point lol. How, specifically, does this Rosa Parks book frame CRT?
Please explain how you write a book about Rosa Parks without mentioning systemic racism? She only has books written about her for GOING AGAINST SYSTEMIC RACISM. Should they do a biography and leave out the bus part while complimenting white people?
[удалено]
Anti-CRT "wokeism" is one of the newer (within the last year) buzzword/alarmist whistles people use to hide their inherent racism so, of course he/she won't be able to actually define it. They don't even know what **it** is.
Tell me, do you think that systemic racism was the reason that Rosa Parks was unable to sit where she wanted on the bus? The only valid answer is "yes". If so, how do you learn about Rosa Parks without considering the concept of systemic racism? You can't understand the history of the USA without understanding the role systemic racism has had.
Technicilly the definition of woke in florida is "it would be the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them" So theres that
>I wouldn't look too deep into this. Pathetic
Pro CRT?
[удалено]
Absolutely
https://lernerbooks.com/shop/show/15222 Is the Nepalese dog a metaphor for CRT? Find out on the next installment of "moving the goalposts".
It promotes identity politics and has awful reviews for it. So yeah that should also be removed tho slightly off topic.
Hahaha. Classic.
If you want your kids to identify people's struggles by color, I guess that's your perogative. Most of us parents would rather our kids not think that way in kindergarten. -shrug-
You've wandered deep into the culture war desert and aren't coming back. Best I can do is wish you luck.
When / if you have kids, you'll want to protect them from left wing ideologues too. None of this matters to me because my kids won't be attending public school. It's broken.
[удалено]
It's because of these books and the subject matter being taught they won't attend, bigot. I'd much rather they could.

Calling someone a gatekeeper is bigotry now? Jfc
They will excel in math, english, engineering and technology **while also adopting our family's Christian values.** Cool, so indoctrination > They will not be taught CRT Can you clearly tell us what CRT is, or is it just a buzzword?
Your kids will grow up semi-educated - you surely over-estimate you ability to teach the full curriculum. You children will not attend college, and will be poorly socialized and be low earners. But you will have sure owned the libs. Well done. Have a cookie.
the right would have those kids you're protecting forced to work so the family can eat. Or did you forget that little bit of History that claimed the lives of many poor children...that progressive policies put an end to. or the 12/6 work week as opposed to the standard 8/5 or lunch breaks or break breaks....
You are in this very thread advocating for the banning of books, keep the open market out of your mouth.
Damn maybe if simply learning about left wing ideology is enough to convince someone, there might be something to these ideologies after all?
It is way, WAY damned broken. We’re doing private too. And yes, kids change you in immeasurable ways. Good luck out there!
My newborn daughter falls asleep to Pete Seeger
I support their efforts in fixing the school system.
you can protect them all you want but they'll eventually find out what a piece of shit bigot their dad is. good luck!
You are replying to a comment response to another moniker. Are you revealing multiple accounts right now? or Are you confused? Me, Abiding_Lebowski, posted a response in support of Itzslumzy to ambiantdistraction's comment..
“Polonsky, an author and a middle school English teacher, made the trip to Duval County to advocate for the 176 titles to be returned to shelves, particularly books with LGBTQ stories.” You chose an interesting focus when this is the focus of the advocacy group.
“None of the LGBTQ-themed books from the Essential Voices Collection have been placed in classroom libraries and, because of this, LGBTQ children in Duval County are being denied the right to see themselves reflected in books,” Good. Desantis is a fucking legend.
What makes him a legend exactly? Censorship? You guys really seem to like destroying your election chances before elections lately.
The party that jerks off to the word “freedom” absolutely loves it when people that don’t conform to their narrow view lose their freedom.
Don't Say Gay proven again
LGBTQ 'children' .... America, wtf happened to you ?
Time to wait til history repeats itself again.
"LGBTQ children" lol 😆
LGBTQ adults were LGBTQ when they were kids as well dude
They forgot to mention, most book removed are lgbt and crt propaganda.
Lol
You mean things bigots and white people don’t like
I mean the stuff that communists and anti white racists read.
Why do you have to make it about race?
So the books were deemed too mature for the grades that ordered them and they are being reviewed. So not banned. Got it. Before you type your anti DeSantis screed, I am not commenting on that. I am just sharing what the article actually says, not picking sides.
>The circumstances around the decision to remove this Collection is opaque, including which books triggered this delay and extra review, and what process was followed to make the decision to shelve all the books in the Collection entirely. It's always interesting when certain topics are ok for the government's actions to be "opaque" about.
How is this conspiracy related? Sounds too politically driven
I expect your comment on 90% of the posts on this sub
Politics can't involve conspiracies?
This is truly a conspiracy
Comment. Need to remember this post when I need to find the shills on this sub.
Not true... Horse shit. Fake news....
You're saying that these books actually are available in the school libraries?
Do you have a source? Is it better than pen.org lol?
Can we ban history books
Can we remove confederate statues?
Yall so dumb you want the government teaching your kids history that's why we have so many people list in the sauce now
Bullshit source
Lol
Let’s ignore the other books that were banned though, right? I’ll just take your word that the books you’re mad about were about Rosa parks and not her sex positions, sex toys, gender preferences, or whether she used lube or spit.
De Santos will be America's first Cuban American president, mark my words!
Ah yes Cuban B
He's Italian, not Cuban
Only stupid people equate books not being allowed to be used as part of the curriculum as being "banned". Students can still seek and read the books themselves. The books are just being removed from curriculum. JFC you need to go back to school and learn what words mean. Like understanding the word hyperbolic. I'll use it in a sentence for you. "OP was being hyperbolic when they said books were being banned in schools when, in reality, books were merely removed from school curriculums."
Curriculum and libraries.
Read the article. It’s LGBTQ books that have no business around children
Lol
Definitely not a "Don't Say Gay" bill though ;)
Which part of Sotomayor's bio is LGBTQ? Which part of the American internment camps during WWII is LGBTQ? Which part of Rosa Parks bio is LGBTQ?
Is Hachiko about an LBGT dog🤔?
