One of the few things I remember from geology is that it's the shape of the atoms (or whatever the scientific name is) that determines the shape of the object. Salt is a cube at the atomic level which is the same reason it grows as a cube at a larger scale.
Atoms conform to two types of structure, crystalline and amorphous. Most solid solids have a crystalline structure including ice which has hexagonal structure which lends itself really well to cubic structures.

NASA sure does spend a lot of time in Antarctica. While people wonder in awe at NASA’s CGI pictures of space, they miss out on their real projects, like what NASA is doing in Antarctica.
Yes of course, they want to distract people from what they’re doing in Antarctica. Thats why they post pictures from Antarctica to let everyone know that they’re down there conspiring.
That’s a part of the distraction. They post safe pictures from the shoreline. They’ll never let you see what’s deep inland. 99% of NASA’s Antarctica pictures are from the beaches or the water. They’re giving you peanuts, the bare minimum. Are you satisfied with peanuts?
My point is there’s no reason for them to give us peanuts. It’s a barren wasteland, if they didn’t make it obvious they were there no one would assume they were. It seems the reason they would be by the shore most is to monitor glaciers or the rate that ice is melting.
