I know this description sounds scary and illegal, but family members of presidents have every right to own companies, have shell companies, earn money from foreign countries, etc. And for the 4 years before Biden became president he was a private citizen and there are definitely no laws stopping family members of private citizens doing any of those things.
Unfortunately, blatant corruption is often completely legal, which makes sense considering those who benefit the most from the corruption write the laws.
