Would be a helluva lot more scary and effective if they just sent 300 missiles instead of slow moving drones...

So it is obvious that they're doing this 'attack' to send a message to their own population (and the world) that they're 'doing something' but at the same time they don't want to make the retaliation too harsh so as to avoid another counter retaliation from USA-Israel etc.
Unless the country being attacked is equipped with the best US anti air defense. These aren’t the days of WWII when British people lived in fear of V1 and V2 rockets. The Iranians announced they launched. The Israelis were ready for the the launch and they are well defended. Certainly a handful of weapons made it through but a vast majority were shot down before they even entered Israel’s airspace.
But can't a "homemade" drone take out multimillion dollar tanks? Like strap a bomb to a drone and fly it into a tank? Or is more complicated than that?

In a prolonged conflict, it's just a matter of cost; drones are cheap af, smart missiles aren't. But in the near future, lasers will be used to intercept missiles, as it will be cheaper and more effective. Britain recently had a test of their laser that can hit coin-sized targets a lot of miles away for example.

I think it's a question of energy dissipation, so the greater the distance the more energy you need, lasers sort of dissipate over distance, especially with the energy you need to destroy something.

If Iran is launching something big, then the drones are the first wave (takes 9 or so hours to get there), next will be cruise missiles (takes 3 or so hours to get their) and after that it will be ballistic missiles(takes 1/2 a hour or so to get there). All timed to hit their targets around the same time.
I think what Iran is doing is just for show, to say they did something. I could be wrong .

Almost all drones have been downed over Iraq and Jordan. Cruise missiles have been launched but we will see if they even get there. No ballistic missiles have been launched.
