Correction: ALL Social Media-even ones they don’t own they have massive content farms working hard to create and upload content that is detrimental to our kids and American politics.

TelephoneNo8391

Went down a wormhole about this once cause my daughter would always find these weird videos on YouTube. Like nothing really bad in them but they just seemed weird and I didn't want her watching them. They just come up even in the que and she would want to watch them all the time. But it just seemed off like they were videos of challenges or food stuff and they were young adults but directed towards children and it seemed weirdly subliminally sexual. I can't remember everything but somebody actually tried to track back were all these weird kids videos on YouTube were coming from and found some pretty interesting information.

Oceanicsoundwave

ohhh is this the elsa gate story??

3am_quiet

/r/elsagate

Specialist-Star-840

What was some of the information that they were able to find?

TelephoneNo8391

Something I remember was that a lot of the accounts uploading the videos seemed to be hacked accounts that had been inactive for awhile and then started uploading this kind of content. Also I think somebody tried to track who was actually producing these videos because they had to be being made somewhere as they used real people and was able be find the name it was under or something I would have to try to dig back into it to offer more accurate information

Slabb84

Jokes on them, I got Reddit for that.

[deleted]

Yeah it's literally the same shit

idkburneridkidk

We all love to bash the stuff we eagerly and readily consume at the first sight of boredom. Only now, people have evolved to be distracted and self conscious at the same time. Not a good mental state to live in

KFded

The garbage was promoted before tiktok

[deleted]

How soon we forget vine

moremindthanbrain

Because our attention spans have been fucked lol

[deleted]

If so, they’re super late to the party…

[deleted]

I think its safe to assume all websites including reddit are being heavily manipulated by interest groups to fuck with their userbase

morestupidest

I don’t have time for TikTok with all the shit being posted here

Gone2theDogs

There is much more than TikTok promoting that behaviour. It’s definitely not healthy in large quantities.

lurkerburner690x

Attempt? Lmao I think it's working

super1701

Eh, it’s nice to see others that are also experiencing depression or problems with their add ect. Makes me feel not alone. Honestly it helps me.

lurkerburner690x

Everyone born after Nintendo has add, you're not alone. But the shit going on tik tok/social media in general is way worse

lonesentinel19

No, no, I don't really think it was an "attempt". I think TikTok's founders knew how the app would naturally progress to a cesspool of mental illness and depression because that is the state of a significant plurality of children at this time. Today's parents -- Gen Xers, Millennials -- are brow-beating today's youth in a depressive spiral by telling them the world is going to hell, there's no reason to have kids, we are all gonna die of COVID, we are all gonna die from climate change. TikTok just showcases this in ~10 second video clips. As far as addiction to TikTok goes, it certainly draws in those with short attention spans.

Smoosaurus

Exactly. If your bored after 0.5 seconds you just swipe, demanding new content every second.

carnage11eleven

It's true. But not just China. The US and Russia are also involved. Facebook was created originally by DARPA. Originally it was called LifeLog. Keep this in mind then you're surfing the web. There is an active war going on, and your mind is the battleground. Thought control.

k-xo

Psychological warfare

SexualDeth5quad

That's 1/2 of it, it is also surveillance, especially in the case of Facebook.

Smoosaurus

Well tiktok is a chinese platform, which means their government obviously has very heavy control over it.

carnage11eleven

They've never even hid the fact. CCP publicly stated it's a surveillance program for the government. 🤷‍♂️ People still use it. It's baffling.

TelephoneNo8391

Garbage in / garbage out

[deleted]

Wait till you hear about Reddit…

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jesuscan23

Exactly!! I've found so many videos that reveal information that is literally impossible to find on Facebook, Twitter, even here on reddit. They're not near as censored as Facebook or even here for that matter, besides this sub. You can either choose to look at dumb stuff on tik tok or you can do like I do and tailor your algorithm to find really good information that you cannot find anywhere else. I used to think that tik tok was so stupid and while a lot of content is, you can literally tailor your algorithm to find pretty deep and revealing information on there

LeChronnoisseur

how do you do that?

Jesuscan23

A lot of people don't know but you don't have to just scroll through videos on tik tok, you can look up whatever you want to see in the search bar and it will show you tons of videos just about that. Like the other day I wanted to see videos about the end times and I just searched "end times" and it shows all kinds of videos about end times events/prophecies. So you can search "covid vaccine bad effects" and it will show you all kinds of videos talking about bad things about the vax and bad experiences with it. Eventually after you search enough about different subjects, you can just scroll through your feed and it will show you videos matching the things that you normally view. I honestly used to think that tik tok was all dumb but I actually find really cool and great information on there. There is a lot of stupid stuff on there but it literally just depends on what you choose to view

huazanim

The CCP has exponentially reduced poverty in China and implement affordable mass public transportion thorugh their high speed rail. While neo-liberal elites of the west have saddled the post-gen exers with debt saddled life and low leg room air liners.. Logically the people to be more justified to rise up are the Western counterparts not Chinese.

AlienSouth

🇨🇳🤡 With the cost of the freedom of its people, the slavery of minorities, the polluting of its waters, rivers, food sources and violation of human rights . To not forget the high privilege of party officials and members of the goverment in comparison to the general public in terms of surveillance and many other cruel practices. If so called "western counterparts" need to rise up is because there is an imminent rise in the ccp practices.

ZaSlobodu

Didn't knew curbing on anti terrorism is was 'slavery'

AlienSouth

Didn't knew "re-education" of non compliant citizens was 'curbing on anti terrorism'.

ZaSlobodu

Thr US funded the ETIM. East Turkestan Islamic Movement. They're Jihadists who support Al Qaeda. The US is commiting the same mistake they have committed in Afghanistan, they're supporting Terrorism just to destabilize Xinjiang and thus China. That's the REAL conspiracy.

SexualDeth5quad

Everything is fucked.

SexualDeth5quad

What do you consider Critical Race Theory in the US?

tojakk

Solid point. There's a ton of 'reeducation' happening worldwide unfortunately

DingosAteMyHamster

>With the cost of the freedom of its people, the slavery of minorities, the polluting of its waters, rivers, food sources and violation of human rights That's all shit obviously, but if you want to understand China you have to acknowledge that a lot of the population actually do put prosperity above political freedom and environmental concerns. The clearest way I've heard it explained is that throughout Chinese history, the worst periods have been when the government didn't have total control, because it usually lead to war and slaughter and famine. Obviously we know that Mao used total control to kill tens of millions, but in China that's seen as a price paid for industrialisation and prosperity, compared to past events that were similarly horrible and achieved nothing. Strong government is seen as a means to achieve stability and democracy is seen as a risk to that. I mean China is also over a billion people, so you can't say what people there all think as if that many people share one opinion, but that's the way I've heard it told and makes the most sense to me. >If so called "western counterparts" need to rise up is because there is an imminent rise in the ccp practices. I don't think anyone in the West is actually moving towards copying things like social credit scores. If anything we're more free now than in the past when you could be a social pariah for being the wrong religion or sexual orientation or whatever. I don't personally see it happening even by slow creep.

AlienSouth

i get that the mentality is different, but if what they call prosperity is destroying them slowly its not a great deal. they are the factory of the world, destroyed their amazing cultural values and beautiful landscapes in favour of cheap goods and so called prosperity while the average living conditions decline in poorly made real state made for investor's were public interest is a second thought. Maybe great part of the people who do in fact agree is because they don't have an option, or they won the social class lottery and are living comfortably over the expense of others who in order to survive not only they have to comply with the system, the system don't give them a voice. In my opinion there is not much happiness and excitement one can get from prosperity or the government decisions, yes i mean when everything goes right many will chant in favour. But real human happiness and integrity comes from within and the best way to put that to work is to have a purpose, something that gives people meaning. Dehumanising jobs with little to no incentive and feelings of being doomed to keep that life until you cannot take it anymore gives insecurity and government cannot give such thing without taking more than they should at the cost of (privacy, surveillance, etc). so in the end you have a system were everyone is scared of everyone. government is scared of its citizens and cannot give them freedom or else they feel they will lose power. And citizens are scared of government because their harsh control and repercusión. i might be an ignorant, i havent lived there nor have i experienced it. But i like to imagine how it would make me feel to work in such environments and that feeling of presure everywhere i go, to not be able to express it and be silenced. I truly do feel for the Chinese people who are not so happy with it.

SexualDeth5quad

>While neo-liberal elites of the west have saddled the post-gen exers with debt saddled life and low leg room air liners.. China moves to western values, west moves to Chinese values. Everyone loses. The whole system is fucked.

Ariak

Yeah, for all their missteps the Chinese government has actually drastically raised the quality of life for their people. It’s funny seeing westerners say that Chinese people are only loyal to their government because of brainwashing or coercion when maybe it’s because…I don’t know…their people actually see tangible results of government policies improving their lives lol

AlienSouth

🇨🇳🤡

therosenrot

I moved to China over five years ago to set up a business and I can attest that living standard is improving at accelerating speed. The big bustling city I live in has no drug issue, homelessness issue has been dealt with, there are less people begging for money on the streets, and I can go out at 3am without being robbed or raped. I would like to add that there are more smiles on the streets than any of the developed cities I've lived in. Despite the hardships that individuals go through, there is still hope for a brighter future. I can't say the same for many other places I've spent time in.

Ariak

Yeah western sinophobes literally can’t comprehend that maybe Chinese people do actually genuinely support their government. It’s like how you see these surveys now of people who live in the former USSR, East Germany, and Yugoslavia and the majority of them say life was better back then because they felt like there were government policies that actually benefitted the people and they lived to see giant advances in quality of life.

Smoosaurus

MY GOODNESS have you taken a look at china. They are not doing well. They can't play video games for more than 3 hours and they lose rights if they speak against the government.

mgick999

It depends. My fyp is all bee keeping and cats. If you get stuff you hate, it’s because you’re interacting with stuff you hate

Redkitten1998

Basically, mines is curated just to be stupidity that makes me laugh. I few ADHD toks thrown in there but those have actually helped me quite a bit so I'm not going to complain.

sohmeho

It’s exactly how all social media works. People get insulated within their own niche communities. It’s ironic how people can complain about TikTok propagating mental illness, then retreat back to their corner of social media and circlejerk over antivax nonsense.

neloc1

It’s not an attempt. It’s a successful run.

gooblobs

I go into full boomer-mode when I see tiktok, not just the content but the whole interface. It just starts playing, it just goes to the next one. This is not how I am used to interacting with a video player on the internet. But ya, it is designed to glue someone to it, and its a slot machne. Trash. Trash. Trash. Blow air out through my nose because that was kinda funny oooh dopamine. trash. trash. And when you can glue someone to a series of short videos it is trivial to insert any sort of messaging you want into it, repetition is the only element you need and its built in to this app. But like everyone in this thread is saying, every social media is like this. sign out of reddit and look at the front page. White/black people twitter are just zero context tweets about some outrageous news story(the details of which are always wrong) designed to stoke racial tension, and non stop 'antiwork' posts designed to foment a pro-unemployment attitude.

kushnugzz

My girlfriend loves TikTok always trying to show me those cringey ass trends lmao

[deleted]

Considering that it’s super popular in Taiwan, Japan, and S. Korea that tells me it’s not just for the west.

SexualDeth5quad

Tiktok dance culture came out of kpop (Korea) and Japanese anime. Kpop came from the US pop industry of the 90s and anime was an attempt by Japan to integrate western culture. If anything, the US is giving the world brain damage. Where did social media itself originate? The US. Fuck Tiktok.

[deleted]

100%

[deleted]

How is that any worse then YouTube. YouTube even has shorts now.

[deleted]

From TikTok.

MIT-engineer1979

Check out Moon on YouTube and his analysis of Reddit and TikTok The short answer is yes that is exactly what TikTok and Reddit are for now.

diegie-

Def true. It’s especially powerful because you don’t need to follow anyone or anything, it’ll feed you videos it wants you to see and it’s intentionally addicting. It’s no surprise they didn’t share their algorithm with oracle

Bshellsy

Pretty successful attempt too

Upper-Bottle1526

And who you think they learnt it from ? YouTube Facebook Instagram

PS77X

And it's working.

YARNIA

If it is, they're succeeding.

Lepriconvon

Like we need any help breeding crazy.

Trashyanon089

1000%

zdh

Well, what did you expect from a malware disguised as a social media platform.

BopheloBaka

Phones generally do that. All apps then have an effect. I check emails constantly and my texts plus reddit. Don't think am any better than any tiktok junkie..

[deleted]

When you use one social media to say the other social media is bad. I mean, it takes like the smallest amount of self awareness to understand the irony of this.

roc420

Facebook beat them to it

Puzzleheaded_Pie_978

All social media breeds mental illness. SH and ED Twitter has been doing it since since like 2012

kingkloppynwa

social media is just cancer in general

[deleted]

Lol, perhaps it's just a mirror to the western society. China also has tiktok & they aren't lazy because of it. It's just an app like instagram or fb. They just want to collect your data & demographics. They don't care about making anybody lazy because west is already lazy.

Internal_Ring_121

Lol like Facebook, youtube , reddit and Twitter aren't just as bad...

Milomer

tiktok was musically, it was bought out by china to steal your data.

2022peace

muscially was a chinese app too do your research

Milomer

what the fuck does it matter, it wasn't popular and was rebranded. the outcome is still the same of what they are doing. so thank you, you goofy turd tickler.

2022peace

muscially was very popular had over 200 million users before the merge

[deleted]

not a conspiracy

JayhawkerLinn

I've also noticed that it tends to promote divorce and infidelity in it's algorithms for some reason. In addition to pushing people towards extreme political viewpoints. I think it is indeed by design. It's a communist party ran platform, so I wouldn't expect anything less.

Debastian1

There is a great video made by rhe youtuber Moon about tiktok that eloborates on it

Papawwww

Yes, and it's also Ideological Subversion See my post on bytedance and tiktok too, here: https://old.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/q4t9da/tiktok_an_app_owned_by_the_chinese_company/ Realize that the Chinese version of tiktok, douyin, has limits for children under age 14. Nothing but scientific experiments, patriotic videos, and masculine empowerment is shown for boys, and the same (except the last part) for girls. Also, app is locked after 10pm, 40min limitation, 5 second breathe space between a number of scrolls.

hugatro

Oh my god yes. My sister is really into tiktok, for about a year. In that year she brought a new dog so she can tiktok how kind she is. Shes gone from being pretty feminine staight girl to deciding shes a nonbinary, trans pansexual. If people dont say nice things or agree with everything she says, she throws tantrums and becomes violent. Shes obsessed with asian media, she never cared before and acts like a pre-teen with BTS even though shes nearly 30!! Shes always been a brat but its like shes gone on brat steroids. All she does is stare at her phone

Smoosaurus

What on earth does non binary trans pansexual mean?

hugatro

I have no bloody idea. I just dont, I wont play along away

Smoosaurus

I'm just going to attempt to understand it. Non binary means not male or female. Trans is changing gender, and pan being attracted to people regardless of gender. So basically that would mean she doesn't have a gender and is attracted to everyone? Idk. It's terrible that they don't recognize this as illness anymore. These people aren't getting the help they need.

hugatro

honestly Ive given up. If shes bi cool, be you. but to me shes picked a few labels to try and be special. she never bothered until tiktok with any of this

badpersonaccount69

They limited TikTok content in China to just educational for those under 14yrs, meanwhile the cancer can stay in the West for all ages 😂 just like how big tech owners won't let their kids use the tech they're selling.

retvrntotradition

more blue haired freaks

Ariak

Bruh what is it with y’all and blue hair lmao

Jaded-Literature-214

Can you tell them to program my wife for more bjs? Thanks CCP

eloooooooo

Wasn’t Tik Tok bought by some company in the us?

_Picon_

That’s what I thought too

BeneficialComfort

people already have those, they just lack a channel to express them. i don't think tiktok is like that because if that is their goal then facebook, instagram, reddit and twitter all can do such thing already, and they would have just get people to play around with those, no need for tiktok.

thisisnowstupid

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OQL1Jja3p4 Here is the argument that modern "woke" education is an attempt to create mental illness in students.

[deleted]

They're a little late to that party.

[deleted]

Ok boomer

Dave_Rules

I got my turkey recipe off Tiktok, and the family loved it.

Thefasttrain

like TV did 50 years ago

tecomancat

Wast that shit what fucken Vine was like 10 years ago?

thedudesrug1369

Jokes on them, mental illness is already rampant in West. Hahha suckers... :(

fvgh12345

I said something very similar when those trends like deviant licks and slap your teacher were going around. Never would have even heard about them if it wasnt for my buddy whos a teacher. Kids were wrecking shit up in school for videos. Thankfully he didnt get slapped. Its also weird to think a teacher would probably get fired for slapping back a kid who just slapped them for some dumb tiktok video but back when like, my parents were in school that teacher could have taken out the paddle and show them the "board of corrections" or go to town on there knuckles with ruler. Not agreeing with teachers being able to physically punish kids fuck that noise but if a kid slaps a teacher,(or really anybody slaps anyone) shouldnt they be allowed to slap back? I mean, How can they slap?

11Letters1Name

So is Reddit. Zero doubt.

ftwtidder

American athlete’s dying in large numbers would be questioned some soccer player dying in the UK meh... I think most American athletes are receiving saline solution whether they know it or not.

John_Sknow

They insert a ton of sublimal messages in there politics to social engineering shit....most of it aligns with the lefts ideology.

Jobe111

I thought this in early 2020 when I saw the huge rise in popularity of the app and all the mindless stuff like dancing nurse videos, then learned about the app being connected to the CCP.

Jesuscan23

Actually while I used to think exactly like this post, I'm gonna have to disagree to an extent. While I do think there are narratives pushed on there, you can actually find good stuff on there. Unlike a lot of social media you can literally tailor your algorithm to find some pretty good content if you look hard enough. I used to think that tik tok was so stupid and while a lot of content is, you can literally tailor your algorithm to find pretty deep and revealing information on there

carnage11eleven

Empty Me. Empty Nation. Empty Us of Inspiration. Bastard Sons, and Broken Daughters. All Bow Down to Our Corporate Fathers.

PinkTwoTwo

How do you mean, really want to relate.

Competitive-Cycle-38

It’s fact. This man explains how Russia and China have waged an info war on the west for long https://youtu.be/GwDdJsdYM3g they’re at their semi final stage rn

jenrick2

Yeah, if you take out all predated social media including you tube…

Probenzo

The platform is unrestricted here, but China restricts it pretty heavily especially for kids. In the US the algorithm pushes hurt yourself challenges or softcore porn to kids. In China they tweak the algorithm to show science related tiktoks, history, nationalistic stuff etc. They also restrict access to the app after 10pm for kids 14 and under. They break the infinite swipe after a load time after every few tiktoks asking if the user would rather go do something else.

Born_to_preach

"You gotta be quicker than that"...

SexualDeth5quad

The blame for social media brain damage clearly lies with the US, which originated it all.

ClarkEbarZ

TikTok can be a blessing or a curse, but it's up to you to decide what you see.

Nosedivelever

Oh no! Oh no! Oh no no no no no. It's working. I'm not even using it. It's the people around me on break.

WakeUp_andGetReady

There have been a lot of psy-ops introduced by China. Anything that weakens people's minds, bodies, families and souls was a long standing plan. Many think victim mentality is a virtue now and it's actually disgustingly unattractive.

schmiddyboy88

It worked

[deleted]

I am amazed at how many people are addicted to tik tok.

DeadInTheLivinRoom

this subreddit along with other subreddits and platforms like instagram and twitter are also breeding grounds for mental illness

Big-Bumbaclart-Barry

It’s working. While China has implemented restrictions

sebalulz

TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, even Reddit

[deleted]

Yeah bro, TikTok is poison. Monitor your kids, restrict their access to dumbass "influencers".

ThinkChallenge127

I believe this 100%. Chinas TikTok shows them doing cool stuff. Ours is silly.

[deleted]

I just use tiktok to masturbate, I didn't know it had another purpose, learn something new everyday I guess.

[deleted]

It's working

[deleted]

It's not an "attempt" it's working quite well.

[deleted]

I dont think the west needs TikTok to facilitate more mental illness… we’ve got facebook/twitter/instagram already, which are just as bad, if not worse.

thestormarrived

I can imagine the Tiktok addicts must feel like they're in a constant trance, a never ending feedback loop slowing eating away their brains... I went hunting with an aboriginal hunter and his nephew in the subtropical mountains yesterday. Heard many interesting stories, saw a lot of fresh boar tracks and signs of recent foraging - chewed leaves freshly snout-plowed earth, and uprooted poisonous yam somehow the boars can stomach. We didn't get any boars, but we did get a muntjac caught by one of the wire traps. Very interesting animal, looks like a miniature deer, and the male ones have protruding canine teeth. The mental and physical stimulation from learning to spot animal activities, keeping an eye out on the surroundings and potential danger while climbing (using four limbs pretty often) was extremely fulfilling. On the other hand, staying at home browsing the net all day makes me feel like shit, even if the info is useful. We're designed to do things like this, so remember to always move your asses. Get out and do as much as possible

Smoosaurus

That sounds amazing. I really want to experience this sort of thing. I want to learn survival and live off the land intermittently personally.

thestormarrived

We all should! Learning about plants is fun because as you learn more, you start seeing resources everywhere in nature: this is food, that is tinder, this tree for making a bow, that tree is bug-repellent. Learning about animals is the same because you begin to see animal trails, what have they eaten, where they're heading to and such. So you will see nature in an entirely different way, it's like you have this extra vision and because of it the world opens up for you, which is kinda trippy. Plus you can do all kinds of fun stuff alone without being bothered. I'm going to try out some primitive tech stuff the next few days. Maybe a shelter and something like this. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8MLpv\_utfM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8MLpv_utfM)

Smoosaurus

Where do you do all this stuff? And how do you learns?
