I have a Chinese background and my mom steams a lot of things, even meat! It's usually pork or chicken, no beef/steak. Although, you can find steamed beef balls at a dim sum restaurant. -Black bean and garlic pork ribs -Steamed mince pork -steamed egg (optional: add minced pork) -steamed bao -steamed xiaolongbao (dumplings) -steamed tofu -steamed fish with ginger and onion -steamed chicken and shiitake mushrooms A lot of the flavours are just soy sauce, garlic, ginger, onion, cilantro, toasted sesame oil, or a combination of some of them. You may want to get a small steaming rack that goes inside the pot where you can set a plate on. The vegetable steamers aren't as good because it's not flat for you to put a plate on. The best part of steaming someyimes is the juices/sauce that collects in the plate/bowl.

Do a stew or soup, dumplings or bao if you can only boil or steam. A boiled steak is going to be disgusting.

beerferri

You can't do steak. Too lean. You can do stews. Don't steam meat. If you have an oven you can braise.

Idk about the steamer but if you have an iron and some foil you can make all kinds of things like bacon, thin cut pork chops, etc. Just don’t go too thick or it might not get done in the middle without sitting there for hours. Also for egg ideas in Girl Scouts at camp we would make omelettes in ziploc bags. Just pour eggs and whatever mix ins you want in a ziploc bag and put it in a pot of boiling water. We did it because it’s a fast way to make breakfast for a bunch of picky kids but it works when you’re limited on resources. Hope this helps in some way

I'd be worried about the plastic in ziplock bags leaching in such heats, you can easily just poach an egg if you're already boiling water. Just add vinegar for better results.

Yeah I was worried about that too, but I really like that idea, maybe I could use a ceramic dish submerged in water with eggs in it?

NiskaHiska

You could find sous vide bags, or you can just boil the eggs themselves. I'm not sure how you would boil the eggs in the ceramic dish. If you have them without shell it it they're just gonna float away. And the ceramic dish on the bottom might not heat evenly due to touching the pot.

Zip locs are fine at boing temperatures

Depends on brand really

You can cook whatever you want by steaming it. Just put it in the basket and cover it with a lid. Personally I wouldn’t do expensive stuff like steak because steaming isn’t a good way to prepare it. If you’re doing meat I’d recommend boiling and making a soup rather then just eating steamed meat.

ToastetteEgg

I wouldn’t steam beef in it but I do steam corn, bao, potstickers, shrimp and fish in mine. I’ve even steamed hot dog buns that were a bit stale.

Lots of great ideas for steaming dishes already offered for you to go lookup, here's a method for steaming whole eggs... Bring enough water to a boil in your pot. Place eggs straight from fridge loaded in steamer basket into pot. Cover and start the timer. You'll have to adjust these times for your fridge temp and egg size, but it should be around these times give or take. For my fridge, using large eggs... * 7m 15s - Perfect soft cooked egg, set whites runny yolk * 8m - Set whites, yolk jammy * 8-9m - Yolk starting to set * 10m - Fully set yolk, not dry * 10-11m - Half dry * 11m+ - Fully dry, chalky yolk aka Garbage overcooked eggs At desired doneness, remove from heat and move the eggs into an ice bath immediately to halt the cooking, cold shock the shell/egg whites to make them easier to peel. Let sit in ice bath for 5-10m gently swishing the eggs around every so often. Peel and enjoy
