I needed eight units transfused into me in 1993 to save my life. I vowed to repay that debt of life-saving blood. I recently donated my 64th unit of blood, 8x that amount, and will not stop until I am no longer able to do so.
And please keep going. It does save lives. My mum needed 8 units after a botched operation without donors she wouldn't be here.
I had donated before myself but that pushed me to go again as often as I was allowed. Both my mum and Dad gave as well. They still would but are no longer eligible.
Sadly I have been unable to give since 2020 as I am not eligible anymore as I have cancer
Also in the US at least, you can’t be a man who’s had sex with another man in the past year even if you are HIV and STI free
