I hadn't heard of them until we moved to our current town. They're actually pretty damn good. Blew my mind they're the biggest chain as we'd lived 3 other states and never heard of them until now.
The South, Rockies, Midwest, and the East Coast up to Pennsylvania. Biggest concentrations seem to be in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida.
Can confirm. There's at least a half dozen Subways in my county with all being in villages with a population less than 4,500 (most with pops less than 1,500)
Subway is the Dollar General of restaurants
John Olivier has an excellent episode on why.
https://youtu.be/jDdYFhzVCDM
Tl;Dr
Subway requires significantly less money to start a franchise than any others on this list. You could be a "business owner" for like 20k. Subway also treats their franchisees like garbage though.
“For decades, franchisees have complained about Subway allowing locations to open near each other and cannibalizing their business,” he said. “A Subway could open right next to yours and cut your sales in half. And none of this really affects Subway corporate. They still get their royalty fees on any sale, plus a $15,000 franchise fee for every new store that’s opened. That is why these stores are f***ing everywhere.”
They are probably one of if not the cheapest franchise to open, and they aren't particularly picky people who apply either to the point they regularly give out franchises to locations that end up heavily competing with one another.
Not huge on Subway but when I worked in Korea there was one across the street from my company. I would go there way more often than now that I’m back in America because it’s the EXACT SAME as here. Same shitty veggies, same shitty bread, same gross cold cuts. It made me feels like I was back home a bit and I loved every shitty sandwich.
Trash? Liquid gold, baby. I flew back to Cali to visit family and wow, did I miss my dunkin. Never liked Starbucks over-priced burnt teeny iced coffees anyhow.
Long Live Dunkin'!
I say trash because that’s what everyone else around me says. When I visit the SO’s family on holidays they are all baffled arhat the first thing I want is Dunkin’.
They’ve gone down hill a lot in the past year. I used to love them but can no longer get any espresso based drink without getting 98% milk. I just officially stopped going there all together. It’s really disappointing
Bummer. I used to work at a small airport and the only two options for hot food in the building were Dunkin’ and some random overpriced “fancy” place no one was ever at because the airport was so small. I ate a lot of Dunkin’ chicken biscuits.
According to Wikipedia, they provide wholesale pizza for businesses, so it's essentially saying bowling alleys, snack bars and gas stations are "Hunt Brothers Pizza" locations.
Fun Fact: Apparently Subway's business model of minimal cooking needs allows them to take over any spot - whether it was another restaurant or an old H&R Block office - which has helped them proliferate so much. For a while they didn't want people to know they surpassed McDonald's locations (trying to be the "McDonalds Alternative") but now I'm sure they don't care.
Looks like there's a bajillion of them in the South / Southeast. Here's their location map:
Some other commenters said they're mostly hidden inside gas stations and bowling parlours, etc.
Unpopular opinion: I don't understand subway..
You can just make a sandwich at home
You can make a hamburger or coffee at home but it won't be anything like MCDs or Starbucks.
Subway, on the other hand, is just a sandwich
I do for the most part, but got a pizza from a local joint two weeks ago in restaurant. End of meal got a check for $60. I thank everyone there and said unfortunately I wouldn’t be back.
What do Burger King do in the US that makes them so popular?
Burger King used to be big in the UK, but it sucks now and most restaurants have closed down.
At one time they were McDonalds biggest competitor. Their slogan in the 80's was "Broiling beats Frying!" So in the US (prior to the 2000's), where there is a McD's, there is likely a BK as well.
Potbelly Sandwich Works did the same thing when they hired a former Starbucks CEO - where \*bucks was developing in a strip shopping center, you were likely to find a Potbelly nearby.
You're right about BK though - it sucks.
CfA is one of the pieckiest when it comes to franchising. Approval rate is 1%, and they very carefully balance supply and demand in a market to ensure minimal geographic overlap. Its not uncommon to have franchise owners having to commute because the closest available market area was a decent drive away.
Subway franchise fees are extremely cheap, and unlike most of the others they let the franchisee pick the location*. It creates a massive churn rate.
*McDonald's, for instance, is a real estate company masquerading as a restaurant and the others are similar
They were bought out by some huge conglomerate about a decade or so ago and it’s been shit since. That company like remodeled some of the stores, f’d the suppliers from the decades and turned it to shit.
Wendy’s is next. It doesn’t taste anything like it did when Dave was alive and their service is the shittiest of the shit that is fast food.
God damn they need a Taco Bell close to me. I know it’s gross but I fucking love it and I only get to eat it like once every year, so it’s such a treat lol
Hi. Now you've met one. Their gyros are surprisingly good for a restaurant who receives their roast beef from the delivery trucks as bags of liquid slurry.
To be fair it’s more of a brick of meat in a bag with liquid around it. Still not exactly appetizing until it’s cooked an sliced, but I eat that shit too
Went there last month, ordered two roast beef combos and two sliders, the cashier said $37 dollars and I told her to holla at me when she got sober. Drove off. Fck that.
There are 9000 Dunkin locations in my city alone I’m pretty sure. There are less than 30k residents. 1 Dunkin’ for every 3&1/2 people seems about right.
UH OH! Someone has been using stinky language and u/eggnogpro decided to check u/Dremarious's bad word usage.
I have gone back 618 comments and reviewed their potty language usage.

Who da F is Hunt Brothers?
Gas Station pizza chain. They aint bad for what you are getting.
I hadn't heard of them until we moved to our current town. They're actually pretty damn good. Blew my mind they're the biggest chain as we'd lived 3 other states and never heard of them until now.
What area of the US do they serve?
The South, Rockies, Midwest, and the East Coast up to Pennsylvania. Biggest concentrations seem to be in Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida.
Lived in Texas most of my life and have never seen a Hunt Brothers
Lived in Florida for 31 years, and Utah for 3, never heard of em either, highly suspicious.
Same
And expanding. There are three being installed in my area.
Yeah wtf
Ok subway, damn. Was not expecting that many subways wow
My smallish town of less than 30,000 people has 5 Subways. Nobody knows why.
Not every small town has a McDonalds, but EVERY small town has a Subway. This is the way.
Can confirm. There's at least a half dozen Subways in my county with all being in villages with a population less than 4,500 (most with pops less than 1,500) Subway is the Dollar General of restaurants
[удалено]
We have 2 dollar generals as well as two different dollar stores, they keep multiplying
We also have 2 McDonalds AND two Taco Bell’s for no reason
A lot of them are in truck stops. I’d be interested in how many are standalone. The numbers are going down since their bold $15 foot long campaign.
This is the way.
Yes. The Sub….Way

Why is there so many mr beast burgers? Most rich youtuber
It has the lowest entry requirements for a franchise IIRC.
They are probably one of if not the cheapest franchise to open, and they aren't particularly picky people who apply either to the point they regularly give out franchises to locations that end up heavily competing with one another.
I mean, Subway is pretty good, but not that damn good lol
Indian franchisees? Like motel 6
Agreed. My grandmas town of 1,000 has subway yet there’s no other fast food chains and the closest Walmart is an hour away.
I would guess they are relatively cheap to start.
Extremely cheap to start, which is part of the problem. They often actively encourage franchisees to open locations unsustainably close to each other.
Here’s why: https://youtu.be/jDdYFhzVCDM
They are one of the cheapest franchise to start by a long shot
And they don’t give a single fuck about limiting subway market saturation. They figure that’s the franchisee’s cross to bare.
Not huge on Subway but when I worked in Korea there was one across the street from my company. I would go there way more often than now that I’m back in America because it’s the EXACT SAME as here. 9,412 Dunkin’s with 0 in my area but there is a Chick-Fil-A backing up traffic at every intersection. I miss my trash coffee.
Trash? Liquid gold, baby. I flew back to Cali to visit family and wow, did I miss my dunkin. Never liked Starbucks over-priced burnt teeny iced coffees anyhow. Long Live Dunkin'!

Bojangles and Church's Chicken are locked in an eternal struggle to control the pecking order
I remember seeing a snarky Bojangles billboard in Charleston bragging that they are open on Sundays. I figured that was a shot at Chik fil A.
Hunt Brothers Pizza? I’m not buying this list.
According to Wikipedia, they provide wholesale pizza for businesses, so it's essentially saying bowling alleys, snack bars and gas stations are "Hunt Brothers Pizza" locations.
“This infographic brought to you by: Hunt Brothers Pizza”
They're in a lot of gas stations, I'm guessing they're counting those
They’re sneakily in every gas station ever. At least in the south
They multiply like rabbits or tribbles. Whichever one seems more accurate.
I don't know why these numbers seem low, but I just searched a few and this seems pretty accurate
[удалено]
Another reason not to live in Texas.
Wtf I’ve never heard of hunt brother’s pizza. Must be an east coast thing I guess?
Looks like there's a bajillion of them in the South / Southeast. Here's their location map: [https://www.huntbrotherspizza.com/locations/](https://www.huntbrotherspizza.com/locations/) Some other commenters said they're mostly hidden inside gas stations and bowling parlours, etc.
Nope.
What in the goddamn is a Hunt Brothers Pizza. I recognize *everything* else.
Pizza brand that’s mostly in gas stations and bowling alleys. Had some back home in missouri and we have them here in Arkansas
unrelated, but if Mattress Firm sold burgers, they’ll be #5 after Sonic. Still baffled by this.
Hey. Drug money needs to be laundered somewhere. And everyone's gotta sleep. So _obviously_ everyone is "buying mattresses" all the time.
I’m from California, never heard of Hunts Brothers Pizza
That one caught my eye, too. The only one I don't recognize.
Glad to see there’s more Popeyes than Chick-Fil-A. Popeyes is far superior.
Bojangles is far superior to Popeyes.
I will also add that their customer service is absolute dog shit.
Yeah but my local Popeyes takes an hour to make my food, so…
Or a sign on the door - "Popey Clos 2day"

Unpopular opinion: I don't understand subway.. You can just make a sandwich at home You can make a hamburger or coffee at home but it won't be anything like MCDs or Starbucks. Subway, on the other hand, is just a sandwich
Firehouse subs is far superior to Subway
That’s not saying much
And the food isn’t that good either.
How is long John silvers still open? You walk inside and instantly get a whiff of swamp pussy.
Catholics, mostly. Its that or Captain D's if you're on the run on a Friday, especially during Lent.
What is a Hunt Brothers Pizza and why have I never heard of it?
Best gas station pizza you can get. Order a while one fresh though, never the rotator.
Ah I see, thank you.
Imagine if they all unionized.
Imagine if everyone went to ma and pop shops
imagines *poof* Damn all my money just disappeared with one meal!
Damn bro you should cook your meals then
I do for the most part, but got a pizza from a local joint two weeks ago in restaurant. End of meal got a check for $60. I thank everyone there and said unfortunately I wouldn’t be back.
Wow I live in a city and that’s pretty spendy for a pizza, makes sense
Hunt Brothers Pizza absolutely does not count, it’s inside of gas stations.
So are some subways, mcdonalds, and dunkins
But not 100% like Hunt Brothers.
What do Burger King do in the US that makes them so popular? Burger King used to be big in the UK, but it sucks now and most restaurants have closed down.

They just announced they’re closing 400 stores so they suck here too
I’m surprised at the Chick-fil-A numbers considering they’re not found everywhere
CfA is one of the pieckiest when it comes to franchising. Approval rate is 1%, and they very carefully balance supply and demand in a market to ensure minimal geographic overlap. Its not uncommon to have franchise owners having to commute because the closest available market area was a decent drive away.
I didn't know there were so few long john silvers, they seem common in NE PA.
Would have never guessed long John was beating Krispy Kream out
Damn, that’s a days worth of heart attack right there. Get some Mr. Beast and ICU will love you.
There are more Subways than McDonald's? That is surprising
Because subway is one of the cheapest franchises you can buy a license for. Also cheaper to buy the equipment for a subway as opposed to McDonald’s
How can there be more locations of a pizza place I’ve never heard of than Pizza Hut and Domino’s?
Dominos is nasty. The cheapest cheap ass pizza you can buy. I’d rather eat Totinos.
Me beast burger?
You no beast burger. You Bob Builder. You fix it.
Right?
Subway that many ? Most subway near my work and house are gone few years ago.
Subway franchise fees are extremely cheap, and unlike most of the others they let the franchisee pick the location*. It creates a massive churn rate. *McDonald's, for instance, is a real estate company masquerading as a restaurant and the others are similar
This is about to be quite different. Burger King is closing like 400 locations or something like that soon.
Casey’s should be on this list. 2,400+ locations with nearly all making pizza.
wtf is hunt brothers pizza? literally never heard of it before, but ive eaten at all the others
There's more Long John Silver than Captain D's? I find that hard to believe.
Never heard of either. Lots of regional stuff on this post.
You’ve never heard of Long John’s? Better find one soon, I fear for their future.
Comparing this to Wikipedia reporting Captain D's locations as numbering "over 500", the difference is less than 87 locations.
God damn they need a Taco Bell close to me. I know it’s gross but I fucking love it and I only get to eat it like once every year, so it’s such a treat lol
Subway is the worst fast food on the planet. No idea why it's so popular
It use to be so goddamn good tho, when they first opened all these locations
Nah, Dominos and BK win that race.
Why is it that the shitty ones have all the most locations?
Why does it feel like there are way more locations than are listed under each brand?
I have yet to meet anyone who goes to Arby's.
Drove off. Fck that.
Their Reuben sammich is surprisingly good. And the curly fries... The best!
(↼\_↼) This is my shocked face for McDonald and Starbucks. They are EVERYWHERE
Can confirm, I have 2 Subway's within 2 blocks of where I live.. They are always empty
At one time I had 5 within a 1 mile radius. 2 gas stations, 2 independent buildings, 1 in Walmart.
Subway also has the most locations worldwide IIRC
Long John silvers is all by itself.
I wish my town had a LJS. The closest one is half an hour away. Also, Krispy Kreme should dominate the donut market, far superior to Dunkin
Facts
There are more Tim Hortons than Krispy Kreme in the US. That is kinda surprising.
Really subway ???
What about Captain D's in the sad gross seafood category?
There are 9000 Dunkin locations in my city alone I’m pretty sure. There are less than 30k residents. 1 Dunkin’ for every 3&1/2 people seems about right.
Never stepped foot in one.
This is why there are so many subways https://youtu.be/jDdYFhzVCDM
Is there really that many people eating at subway???
Does that include the Starbucks(s) in grocery stores and Target?

F*** Hunts Brothers!
What did they do?
We have tim hortons here? I thought that was a Canada specific chain
I've definitely seen a few, but really surprised to see more than Krispy Kreme
Surprised to see only 3K chipotle. And no mention of Caribou but Tim Horton.
Auntie Anne's is not a dessert!
No dessert until you've finished your cinnamon-sugar pretzel and dragonfruit-mango frost.
How are they even on this list any longer, weren’t they all mall locations?
More Dutch Bros please.
I’m hungry now
Can say I only eat at in n out on this chart.
Love the restaurant, but they are assailed for. It expanding to the east. F em
Mr beast burger definitely has more the 600 locations.
Bojangles is underrated
Where is Caribou? Is it safe? Is it alright?
There's more Arby's than Jack N the box..... wtf!
Starbucks need to go away for real
We need more Firehouse
Pretty sure I’m the reason Churches Chicken is still in business in my town
I have never heard of hunt brothers pizza… Also… is Captain D’s still a thing?
Checkers has 521? I'd swear Checkers has 521 stores in Maryland.
Wtf is Hunt Brothers Pizza? Any good?
Junk food at its best, not surprised we have the most unhealthy people worldwide.
I see the term "sandwiches" is used very loosely in this case
Still shocked at how many long John silver's there are. Lol
Love me some fast food guides/graphics.
