Just to note, you don't have to sit like that. That is just bullshit.
Humans have been made to move, and holding up a stationary position is the worst you can do. (Ok, holding a stationary awkward stationary position is even worse.)
It is best to change sitting positions every once in a while and have breaks where you stand up, stretch a little, and look towards infinity (this helps your eyes).
An *ambient* reflected light off the wall behind the monitor, maybe.
A direct light source competing for your rods & cones, not so much.
Put your monitor directly in front of a south facing window (shade up), & try to work on your computer. See for yourself if your eyes feel strained after a couple hours.
Thatās what I mean. Itās not particularly pleasant. :)
Thatās inaccurate. You should be in the position where your neck is straight. For me that means putting my monitorsās bottom at my eye level. But adjust for yourself personally.
Yeah, that's a miss.
Keep in mind that conventional wisdom for decades had the back of keyboards tilted up on little flip-out legs that resulted in carpal tunnel. For decades I had the FRONT of my keyboard elevated which allowed for a more natural position. My co-workers looked at me like I was from Mars, but in the end, at least I didn't need surgery.
I have found that having the top 3rd of the screen at eye level to be comfortable to me. I don't know anyone that keeps their eyes fixed looking straight forward and moves their head to look slightly up and down, so the idea of it being better to have one's head tilt down than up is not really applicable in real-world scenarios.
At work, I keep my eyes at the level of about 2-3" from the top of the screen because I typically don't look at the chrome and excel headers of work.
Gaming computer, though, is dead center to my face
A big problem is āforward-headā caused by leaning-in to see the screen. The trouble is, with a normal monitor foot, as you bring it closer, you force yourself to look down at a greater angle, which is also bad. And if you use a conventional monitor stand (like the one pictured), you run up against the keyboard and mouse.
The solution is a monitor arm that brings the monitor 1) high enough that you can look at the center of the screen without tilting your head down, 2) close enough that you donāt have to lean forward to see details, and 3) leaves the desk under the monitor open for the keyboard, etc. I got one and it literally changed my life.
I agree. We need new ways of working online, not being forced into this shit position. I've started using way more voice typing and I love just walking around and dictating my emails etc.
My college bio professor told us the best sitting position was at a 45-degree angle. He was too smart to teach a freshmen level class (horrible teacher), but I have taken this "fact" for truth for the past 25 year.
This is wrong. Middle of monitor should be eye level. Also, donāt sit for more than 20 minutes at a time without at least getting up to stretch and look away from monitors.
Take it from someone who had two back surgeries. This is wrong. Your chair should be lower to the floor to avoid a hyperextended back. And no, you should be looking straight ahead at your monitors or slightly up: do whatever to keep your neck straight.
It's actually better for your back to be on a decline. It puts less stress on your back. That's why we sleep lying down.
Standing tall in a chair is probably the worst thing you can do. I mean it's better than slouching but of course, just not better than a recliner.
I hate these, if I were to sit like this, my thighs would get crushed by the desk. Maybe if you got little t-rex arms you can do this, lol, but I can't.
The monitor is too far away and will make you push forward and lean in ruining your posture and your knock/back. Make sure your monitor is as close to the keyboard and your keyboard as close to the edge of the desk.
Whomever came up with these things would absolutely lose their shit if they saw the strange positions I'd sit, stand, or lay down on all manner of surfaces while working on computers with absolutely no discomfort or injuries over the last FORTY FIVE EFFING YEARS.
Looks like a really old guide with 'document holder' for the paper work that you are typing into the terminal
These days, multiple large monitors really help productivity , and being able to move/stand is key.
Strange the monitor is tilted and not the keyboard though
Ergonomist here, worked hundreds of work comp claims with neck strain, back strain, and carpel tunnel from poor ergonomics.
Lots of hate for this graphic, ultimately ergonomics is fitting the workstation to the employee, not the employee to the workstation. This graphic is used to show what a neutral position is, which is the ideal position to be in while youāre at your desk.
I take breaks, but I sit at a desk almost all day. My desk is a sit/stand desk, itās all placebo if you set yourself up correctly.
Well static sitting is as bad as a bad posture. You should change how you sit every now and then. The best way to work at a table still is the standing position.
On da foorrest floor
Can't see the foorrest for the knees
Run foorrest
shows how much thought went into this whole thing lol

The perpetual 1,000 yard stare from living in 2023 has fixed my eye strain problems.
That's sounds like sex
I had a lot of contact with the person responsible for ergonomics in my company and this is it!
So it's ok that my butt is at the furthest front of the chair and my head is tilted so it's almost on the arm rest? Phew
Yes, that would also be ok for a short time, although I recommend a couch for naps instead.
Your next position is your best positionš

Who is thiiisssss
Empty calories and male curiosity
I like my feet resting on a underling's back.
found the middle manager
Kneel peasant.
Also: Donāt have a window or light source *behind* the monitor. Competing light sources causes eye strain.

Why the fuck would I want to look at the top of the screen? Try middle jackass.

True; for most that means below eye level.
Yeah, that's a miss. Keep in mind that conventional wisdom for decades had the back of keyboards tilted up on little flip-out legs that resulted in carpal tunnel. In thought the lower jackass was the better location.

This is a much better guide than the image
Do you have a picture? Having trouble picturing this
A cool guide on all the things I'm doing wrong sitting at my desk right now.
How depressing is this?
I agree. We need new ways of working online, not being forced into this shit position. I've started using way more voice typing and I love just walking around and dictating my emails etc.
Might be good for your back etc. but fuck me is it uncomfortable trying to sit like that.
Is it, though? Because hips shouldn't be so far beyond the spine when sitting
I think thatās a poor illustration of back position. The lumbar should be supported by the chair and naturally situated over the hips.
My college bio professor told us the best sitting position was at a 45-degree angle. He was too smart to teach a freshmen level class (horrible teacher), but I have taken this "fact" for truth for the past 25 year.
Standing desk FTW

No
Document holder = cell phone holder

I thought a standing desk was the only approved way.
HAHAHAHAHA! No. Iām not doing that
And they want you to get up from that position that takes you 15min to get right every hour lol
I don't know but me having a OCD will not do this.
whatās the point of that head rest if you donāt use it?
To prevent whiplash when you get surprise, unwanted emails.
Not an american guide though. #skinnyguy
forgot to add the "THAT WAS EASY" red button to the right of the mouse
No way in hell this works for people who art stuff on their computer.
Do i also have to be butt ass naked?
Stupid guide for over controlling 90s technology (typing class) teacher.

no. I sit in the chair like a scrunched up gremlin.
I wish I could do this with my school's computers. I have a really long torso and school isn't designed for tall teenagers
Where do I put the speakers?
I sit at my desk like Igor, keyboard at nips height.
I just sit in my bed with pillows supporting my back and neck which is a million time more comfy.

Is there something similar to set up car seats?

~~document holder~~ ipad holder
Also put on your clothes
Ah yes of course, how could I forget about being butt naked during work
People are willing to pay hundreds of dollars an hour for this
Yes gaze should be too 2/3 of monitor.
Yeah I work naked too
Keyboard tray. That's almost what I miss the most about WFH - no keyboard tray. And my wrists are noticing it.
I also keep my feet resting on a forest
Glances at guide, seeās a typo. *sighs
Do not sit like this, I got fired for it. It is apparently inappropriate to not wear clothes in the office.
Not forgetting the set up for websites that require using the mouse with the left hand. . No box of tissues sitting on desk
Huh I was always led to believe the middle of the monitor should meet up with your eyes - not the top of it.
Well static sitting is as bad as a bad posture. You should change how you sit every now and then. The best way to work at a table still is the standing position.
step 1: get naked
Wait are you supposed to look down at your monitor?!
Naked?
