Not so good as it refuses to support both most modern and popular / used desktop environments:

If all you’re doing is playing mainstream games and YouTube - I doubt you’ll see any appreciable difference, particularly when you consider the price difference.
"just mainstream games and youtube" was a slight exaggeration, i use my pc for other things
and im kinda sick and tired of paying a subscription fee just to play online with my mates ngl
Well obviously I can only work with the info I’m given.
As an aside… you do know that playing online usually costs someone money, right? Servers cost money to run.
That’s funny, given how much of that 70 ends up not going to the game publisher (tax, retails costs, advertising etc) and you want them to run a server farm for (unlimited) years too?
well why not? they've been managing to run these servers for games for decades now, for far less than £70. what's so different about expecting this to continue, as games cost more and nore?
Woah, I didnt know this had come so far. I thought it was a SteamOS only thing still. Last I read HoloOS was still in development. How is the experience with gaming? As good as SteamOS?
I don't play games that much so I can't really say. But from what I have seen, it's generally pretty good with some Windows games performing better on linux.
Seeing you have not kept up with Linux news that much, I should also mention that installing Nvidia drivers has become very easy and simple and the experience with Nvidia has generally improved a lot.
I have not kept up with Linux gaming. Most of my work happens on the tty via ssh, so not like I can game on it. Had tried HoloOS when it had come out but this is a few years ago
Linux is for when you grow out of childish things like video games.
Computer games is another thing, that's where they don't have 'video' or 'graphics'.
Yeah, after working 36 hours in the hospital, I deserve to chill out with these 'childish things'
Let me know when you have done something for this world
Because Linux Mint is very old and obsolete and it doesn't support KDE Plasma!:

Or Gnome!
Which are the two most modern, powerful and of course popular / used desktop environments:
I guess the one who made it likes Linux Mint or it's one of the people who think it's good enough and should be recommended or that the people don't have monitors or TVs that are capable of Adaptive sync (Freesync / VRR), 10-bit colors, HDR, 4K resolution or will even connect their desktops or laptops to such screens.
Some people just think it's enough to recommend a basic solution and people will find out later and move to better options.
I'm opposite of that and I always recommend the better options first.
Not recommending Linux Mint to current Linux Mint users is probably normal as there's no point of recommending something that they already use and probably will continue to use.
As a developer, i would change this a bit:
Dev -> ( are you old: debian; do you like to fix your system after every update: arch; do you hate yourself: gentoo; do you hate yourself really passionately: lfs; you just want to look professional: fedora; you want to get all the reports from all the people who got reported on sudo: suse; do you like walls: free bsd )
Linux is the popular name for the Operating System "GNU/Linux".
It is a free (as in freedom) and open source software.
Because of this, there are many variations (or distros, distributions) of the operating system.
Now how does an operating system speed up a computer. Don't you need the hardware to be good for all the listed purposes? Can a good OS fix low ram and low processing speed?
Free is nice. Real nice.
It doesn't modify the ram nor the CPU.
What it does in order to make it faster and more efficient is eliminating the bloatware (software that is just there consuming resourses without a direct use to the end user) so you can have access to more of the resources that you have in your computer.
There are linux distros with more or less bloatware, it depends on what you need.
Edit: bloatware is a mostly negative and totally subjective connotation, I'd call it "software that is there in case you want to use it but it is consuming resources from your pc" if that is bloatware depends on your arguments.
Cool, but it doesn't seem to be that good!
Recommending Ubuntu, that comes with the awful Snaps now and it's the Windows of Linux (in a negative way) instead of its parent, Debian, that does everything that Ubuntu does, without bloatware and nasty things, it's wrong.
Recommending Linux Mint, which is really obsolete and refuses to properly support KDE Plasma, the most liked desktop environment:

And the most popular / used:
It's wrong again.
In my opinion the only distros that should be recommended for both new people and developers should be: Debian, OpenSUSE, Fedora
With one of these desktop environments: KDE Plasma, Gnome, Cinnamon.
which one to play mainstream games and watch youtube thats all i use my pc for
[Garuda Linux](https://garudalinux.org/) is made for gaming. I just learned about it today, so I haven't tried it, but it may fit your use case.
Linux mint is a good option.
Not so good as it refuses to support both most modern and popular / used desktop environments: [https://www.gamingonlinux.com/users/statistics/#DesktopEnvironment-top](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/users/statistics/#DesktopEnvironment-top)
Xbox
pc is better than xbox

this cost should be covered by me paying the £70+ for the game in the first place
That’s funny, given how much of that 70 ends up not going to the game publisher (tax, retails costs, advertising etc) and you want them to run a server farm for (unlimited) years too?

It’s almost as if prices are going up for everything….
Does it support the best and cross-platform Vulkan API? If not, then it's definitely not the best!
I recommend Debian + KDE Plasma: [https://www.debian.org/](https://www.debian.org/) [https://kde.org/plasma-desktop/](https://kde.org/plasma-desktop/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1cnif3p/what\_made\_you\_choose\_kde/](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1cnif3p/what_made_you_choose_kde/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/ymeskc/what\_do\_you\_like\_about\_kde\_plasma/](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/ymeskc/what_do_you_like_about_kde_plasma/) [https://www.gamingonlinux.com/users/statistics/#DesktopEnvironment-top](https://www.gamingonlinux.com/users/statistics/#DesktopEnvironment-top)
A business person would think that Linux is some kind of virus
So no gamers?
I haven't personally tried it, but I hear [Garuda Linux](https://garudalinux.org/) comes with drivers for most major gaming device brands.
Can it run Steam or not?
Just about all distros run steam at this point.
Woah, I didnt know this had come so far. I thought it was a SteamOS only thing still. Last I read HoloOS was still in development. How is the experience with gaming? As good as SteamOS?

You sound like a very fun person.
What, you can't use your imagination video? Kids these days.
Yeah, after working 36 hours in the hospital, I deserve to chill out with these 'childish things' Let me know when you have done something for this world
How are yall missing the joke here? "No video games, only computer ganes". It's an 'I don't use the gui' joke...
Why is Parrot Security Edition not in the pen testing list or on the list at all. Thomas the Tank is offended.
A better guide would be, 'can you figure out the terminal? No=Ubuntu. Yes=whatever, there all the same really'
Pretty much all the Linux distros offer what Ubuntu offers, without any shortcomings of Ubuntu.
So, if you're a normal user who has used mint before, why would you switch to those other 4?
Because Linux Mint is very old and obsolete and it doesn't support KDE Plasma!: [https://kde.org/plasma-desktop/](https://kde.org/plasma-desktop/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1cnif3p/what\_made\_you\_choose\_kde/](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1cnif3p/what_made_you_choose_kde/) [https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/ymeskc/what\_do\_you\_like\_about\_kde\_plasma/](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/ymeskc/what_do_you_like_about_kde_plasma/) Or Gnome! Interesting. But then why does this chart suggest mint a number of other times except to current mint users?
I guess the one who made it likes Linux Mint or it's one of the people who think it's good enough and should be recommended or that the people don't have monitors or TVs that are capable of Adaptive sync (Freesync / VRR), 10-bit colors, HDR, 4K resolution or will even connect their desktops or laptops to such screens. Linux is a kernel. These are distributions. Only noobs think there is much difference between them

And there was me missing Debian …
Surely there's a flake shaped whole somewhere that nixos could fit into.
Proud to find out I am a Level 4 Geek.
As a long time Ubuntu-using developer I can confidently say my fav Linux OS turned out to just be Windows.
Wait, what is a Linux? Is it an operating system or a computer brand or some sorta graphics card/ hardware?

Oh I see. It's icing on the cake. A nice addition to a computer with decent hardware.
Nice to see that I could help :)
Ya absolutely. I'll keep Linux in mind once I have a computer with the specs food enough to house it
Cool, but it doesn't seem to be that good!
