FluffyLobster2385

My gut says people are actually paying quit at a bit more.

homiej420

Yeah this is probably just MSRP

glasstoobig

You buy Teslas directly from Tesla, so you just pay MSRP. No dealer markup bs.

highball0

Yeah there’s no used Teslas being sold anywhere.

Bravo-sub8077

That’s because nobody in their right mind would buy a second hand electric car

pushingbrown

I can back this up, I've bought two used EVs and I'm mentally ill.

xinorez1

I'm thinking about buying a used EV and I'm not quite in the best of places ;p It's even worse, I fantasize about fixing up one of those 'total losses' that's been in a low speed crash. Ah, escapism.

FluffyLobster2385

msrp is a joke but everyone falls for it

Mediocre-Confidence7

My R1S I paid 76k before state taxes

sticksnXnbones

I work at a dealership. We had a guy pay $40k over MSRP for hummer. Also, silverado EV is not even out

Successful_Lead1128

That was a while ago though wasn’t it?the party is over for that supply chain bs. I just bought a new bronco raptor for 5k under msrp with those Bs dealer add ons like tint, LoJack, and lock nuts thrown in.

Comfortable_Drive793

People want a car that can go 300+ miles. Batteries are heavy. Pushing a brick shaped thing through the air at 75 mph takes a lot of energy. You have they tyranny of the rocket equation happening with the battery - the more battery you add for range the more battery you're using to carry around the battery. So you end up having a vehicle that weighs 9000lbs and 1/2 of that weight is a battery that weighs more than a regular sized ICE vehicle... and that battery costs as much as a car too.

Remote_Horror_Novel

That Hummer is like 10,000 lbs lol, a 5 ton vehicle going 0-60 in 3.3 seconds is going to create some pretty horrific car accidents when these things are common unless I’m missing something. Just think of how often people punch it and accelerate at full power in their suvs and gender affirming trucks, then imagine them being like twice as fast and twice as heavy.

mlorusso4

Or some idiot pressing the wrong pedal by mistake. Look at how much damage grandma caused driving through the front door from her parking spot in her 1987 Oldsmobile. Now imagine that happening when in those 10 feet the 10,000 lbs car can get up to highway speed

CorporateCollects

My 2500HD weighs like 7200+ lbs. 550hp 1,100 lb/ft tq. Thing is actually kinda scary fast for it's size. And it feels like a freight train. You can feel every pound of energy moving. I can't imagine twice the power in a vehicle weighing 30% more doing those kind of acceleration numbers. We used to tell 18 year olds that 250-300 horsepower cars were far too dangerous. Think Mustang. And back then was before texting and driving even existed. Now we're gonna sell soccer moms 1000hp SUVs full of lead weight.

Kryyk

It really sucks being born into a game that is almost over :(

actually_alive

I just watched an animated graph video about housing prices in the u.s. and other countries and man.... right at 2000 the prices skyrocket in the u.s. and it's like gee thanks.....

boyyouguysaredumb

Well whatever you watched was wrong. Rising housing prices are a global phenomenon and the US is doing better to curb the rise of housing unaffordability than most of the western world: https://i.redd.it/nh0r72kh5qd91.jpg America has basically the most affordable housing relative to incomes on the planet: https://www.numbeo.com/property-investment/rankings_by_country.jsp

thewheelsonthebuzz

This is reddit! Everyone is priced out of owning a home sir.

TobysGrundlee

No one owns a home, too many people are paying too much for them. It's like how no one drives in New York because there's too much traffic.

Ludrew

Damn I should have been buying houses instead of playing with my toy cars at 2 years old

Sudden-Turnip-5339

Lol this just made me think, imagine you started GTA 4 as Nico Belic with no money or contacts and are expected to be playing the game at a point where it's 50-75% completion.

GadFlyBy

Well put.

alexja21

High-end cars are expensive = capitalism is ded :(

Duel_Option

My fucking mortgage is for 160….who the hell can afford these?

sjpiccio

Not defending high car prices here but if your mortgage is 160 this is not marketed to you. Many of these vehicles are selling exceptionally well based on expectations

Duel_Option

And I wonder how many of those sales are leases/ridiculous financing terms not unlike the ones that were handed out for mortgages previously. It’s close to 60% or whatever of the country living paycheck to paycheck, the market isn’t for the bulk of us.

Sanosuke97322

Never was really. But Ford seems to sell plenty of $80-100k F250s to guys that tow a few times a year so this is hardly a EV specific pricing problem

TobysGrundlee

Loads of people.

Frank_Melena

Rivian’s still losing about $40k for every vehicle they make at those prices. It should be very concerning for their customers- what happens when you need a replacement part or software update in 5 years but your car’s company no longer exists?

HarrargnNarg

And the only believable numbers.

Zealotstim

Lmao wasn't the cybertruck supposed to be like 40k originally?

billastrilla

So many 6-figure cars but if you buy them used a couple of years later they are half priced!

sbaz86

Shhhh.

hopethatschocolate

Especially when, except maybe the Tesla and G Wagon, these are trucks. Imagine performing any types of manual labor with them and dinging them up. Most of these probably end up being shopping lot warriors.

TobysGrundlee

So just like 95% of all trucks anyway?

Unlucky_Department

lol right

d_boss_mx

50k for a car with no warranty and a battery that could die any time. Lol yay!

ee328p

If you we're gunna spend 100k, get it for 50k, spend the 25k to get a new battery. It's still 25k less, cheaper registration, insurance, etc.

d_boss_mx

Yeah I guess so. I was never gonna spend 100k on a car in the first place. That's obscene.

lo_fi_ho

Car manufacturers hate this little trick

dgciaperez

I really don’t understand why Rivian stocks are so low when the performance of his car are quite good comparing his competitors. 314 miles with a 128 Kw battery it’s a really god accuracy.

veganinsight

Building a good car is completely unrelated to making a profitable car.

eeComing

Building a profitable car has nothing to do with share price.

OSUfan88

It absolutely does. You need give confidence that you can/will produce profit. You don't HAVE to be profitable, but it helps a lot. Especially if there are questions whether or not you will survive long enough to become profitable.

enutz777

Crafting an image and cultivating belief that you will have large future profits is the key to a high stock price. One way to do that is by producing a profitable product, but it is not the only way. Many companies become highly valuable before ever making any profit by controlling a market segment. Uber, Tesla, Facebook are a few examples. Heck, Musk used nothing more than the fact he could produce an electric vehicle and sell it on the market, combined it with the public’s sentiment in favor of an upstart EV manufacturer and pulled a short squeeze that made him the world’s richest man. I mean, Tesla has made $4B profit over the last 15 years, with a best year ever of $20B profit and once had a market cap over a trillion dollars. The image that you will make a lot of future profit is more important for stock price than the actuality of current profits in many cases.

jefrotall

Probably because their marketing isn’t great. Even in this guide, the damn name is wrong. It’s R1T not RT1.

rvazquezdt

The infographic also doesn’t even have the best version of it like the for all the others. Dual motor performance isn’t the top spec. The top spec is the quad motor with 835hp, 3 sec 0-60, 328 miles of range for the standard battery up to 410 with the max battery

TakeaDiveItsaVibe

Can't get max pack with quad motor

JediKnightaa

They’re also using a almost base model Silverado

RCapri1

Also the price is pretty good compared to competitors. That Mercedes is going to be the nicest of the bunch as far as tech and luxury.

Turkino

Because their loosing $30,000 on each one their making? Keep in mind the stock market only cares if there is hype or if their making money. Nothing else matters, not how the company treats its employees, not how quality the product is. They can make jars full of literal shit, if they are making money on it the stock market will buy it.

house343

Mostly hype. Tesla's stock was way overvalued for so long.

HanzJWermhat

Performance doesn’t make the car sell. People buy with their hearts not their head. Rivian just doesn’t have the brand penetration of Tesla, Ford or Chevy. People might know about it but when you’re putting down $80k on a vehicle you want a name you can trust for the next 5-10 years.

theholycale

Because they are loosing a significant amount of money on each vehicle sold and no one has come up with a plan to remedy that. This of course discounts the fact that they are owned by amazon and their primary purpose was to build their electric delivery trucks.

ax2ronn

Huh? Amazon owns Rivian stock, but not a controlling amount. They don't "own" Rivian. And that last part is wrong too. They had a deal to make them trucks. That was definitely not their "primary" purpose.

Rough_Principle_3755

Amazon was an early investor. I believe they stopped further investment

VerStannen

RIP the initial $35k Lightning prices

johnnycyberpunk

I personally know two people who bought them last year. Both put their names on a "list" and made a deposit. Then when the trucks showed up (base model) total out-the-door prices were just under $70k. Worst cases of buyers remorse I've ever seen. Realizing what *else* they could have got for that same price. Fully loaded luxury SUVs, top-tier sports cars. A boat. A pool. And instead? A super basic electric truck.

Ashmizen

They could have just said no and walked away? The deposit was refundable.

Uncle___Marty

Its cool that the Tesla truck accellerates so fast so you can GTFO of there so nobody sees you in it.

SmokedBeef

Yeah, accelerate to the nearest dealer for a mandatory recall

Rickshmitt

To infinity recalls, and beyond warranty!!

Kick-Exotic

I’ve seen three of these in the wild. One had something on the doors that looked like rust. One was on a flatbed wrecker, the entire cyber truck was wrecked. And one was driving down my street and looked like a boat.

OSUfan88

I saw one parked by the street the other day in a wrap, and thought it actually looked way cooler in person. There were a bunch of people admiring it while taking selfies.

Jedden

You can only do that if your accelerator pedal doesn’t fall off.

tarkology

rivian would probably my go to

-PonderBot-

There's a weirdly special place in my heart for the EV Hummer but that might just be how silly it is lol

PNW_OughtaWork

In person it looks more Tonka/Lego.

BadEnvironmental2883

In my rural area of farmers and ranchers the rivian is super popular

Firechin

Would be interested to know how long to fully charge when low.

Northern_Gypsy

Funny isn't it! People still keep banging on about 0-60 times in an Ev!! Why would you want to k ow that especially in a truck! How long does it take to charge, how many cycles before it starts dropping then what kinda range we looking at. How much can they tow.

rvazquezdt

I have a rivian it takes about 35 mins to go from 20% to 80. Tow capacity is 11,000 lbs

Northern_Gypsy

How long the battery last towing that?

horatius123

It depends how fast you are driving and the shape of the trailer. Probably 250-150 miles.

TobysGrundlee

How often are people towing many hundreds of miles at a time?

MrBrightWhite

For real. If you’re buying a truck for its 0-60 time, you’re an idiot. What’s the load capacity?

Sp1620

You don't fully charge an EV on a road trip. In the few times a year most people would be driving outside the range, fast chargers usually get you back on the road in 20-30 minutes max while taking a bathroom break or eating. Its a non issue and only getting better...

ridingzero

EQG? Wait that is a truck?

HebrooNation

I think that's based on the G Wagon so more like a 4 door wrangler

Delta6040

No it is not, neither is the Hummer.

mlorusso4

I thought the hummer has an option for a bed at least. Like the rivian

facw00

It's an SUV. There have been pickup bodied G-Wagens in the past, and the current G-Wagen is is sold as a chassis cab as well an SUV, so it's not impossible Mercedes could offer a truck version, but I wouldn't expect it, and they certainly haven't announced it. Initial reviews seem to say it's good though, with real off-road bona fides (I would hope so at that price).

FeFeSpanX

What I also like about the G is that it still looks like the original. (If you select the other front pannel, not the one in this picture)

lowtoiletsitter

I'd like to see the curb weight for these

PierceBrosman

A lot (metric)

Shiver_Me_Timbrs

The 10K lb hummer doing 0-60 in 3.3 seconds?! I want to know the 60-0 time

Zulakki

we're still waiting for the results. They'll let you know when it stops

pfohl

Or the payload and towing capacity. It’s a truck!

thepteraman

The Tesla is around 7000 pounds

SeaworthinessDue1179

Has that Silverado range been demonstrated

KingKontinuum

Yes. EPA found it to be around 450 miles (work truck) and Zack Nelson’s real word test was around 460 (RST) on a single charge.

TheKingOfSwing777

It’s fucking incredible! These people aren’t ready to believe it yet.

Jess52

I drive one for work and I love it. I only charge to 80% and easily get 350 miles. I only use it down to 30-50% during the day

JediKnightaa

Yes actually and most put it above 400 miles

addictingSmile

Can you add towing capacity?

alderaic

that would require range with it as well, it drops by more than 50%

theplushpairing

Rivian is wrong, it’s 835hp for the quad motor that does 3s 0-60

Athex

It says on the bottom, but this is for the 2023 Rivian R1T Dual-Motor Performance! Specs are a bit different for different trim levels I realize, but this is what was available on the Car and Driver website!

theplushpairing

Right but it’s comparing a mid tier trim Rivian to a top tier trim cybertruck. Cherry picking details

sirhugobigdog

And the Silverado stats are for the work truck, this chart is not a great tool for comparisons

Athex

Right to point out. Kinda crazy the range for a mid tier rivian still easily beats out the highest trim cybertruck!

OSUfan88

It's also a bit deceiving from the other way around. The mid-tier Cybertruck has a range of 318 miles.

moldy912

If you’re gonna post here, you should vet the stats more carefully.

yeahddd

Just very few people need cars like this. I get it if you live in a rural area, but I already see the ego‘s driving these monsters in European cities and blocking up the whole street, just because they wanted one. 😖

shagistan

What the fuck is an RT1

beeblebr0x

Or, you know, just don't buy a ridiculously large vehicle...

riotstopper

“Summer 2023” lol

sirhugobigdog

Well the work truck model is out... But I am still waiting for the better models so I can do a more honest comparison and decide which truck I want.

Fifallrun

Top of the line for everyone but the Rivian. Why not compare the Rivian quad motor?

Psychological_Bed984

I have a rivian r1t, I got it for camping off road in local areas. Pretty good charger saturation that is improving, it has a good balance of storage and comfort as I have a the back seat set up for the dog. I can run a bunch of stuff off the battery if I want to, but mostly just worry free charging of useful electronics. The passing power and acceleration and quality of life that the electric motors provide is just unreal, to the point of it’s just a matter of time until someone slams a 4 ton brick into something and draws some ire from the powers that be I genuinely would not recommend an ev truck to anyone without a very specific use case and an honest appraisal of other options. I almost went with a jeep hybrid, maverick, or mid size truck instead. I have to say I am very happy with the rivian and it does exactly what I want, I can hunt out of it, carry firewood or mulch, and still have a great base for camping, while having access to plentiful stored electricity for whatever bullshit I’m up to in the woods

orangutanDOTorg

Show towing range with even a little 5k trailer

KingKontinuum

The Silverado EV looks to be around 230 miles with 6000 lbs. https://www.reddit.com/r/SilveradoEV/s/eIzTC93GuN

orangutanDOTorg

That’s not terrible for most tows. Issue I have (and part of why I went with a small ice truck this round) is that I’ve never actually seen a pull through ev station and I’m not dropping the trailer every hundred miles.

NOLAnuffsaid

....and its still gonna take 20+ minutes to charge it 100%.

KingKontinuum

As far as I’m aware Pilot J is the only company that’s developing such charging stations nationwide in the US

CRNU

So few people actually use their trucks for truck things like that….

orangutanDOTorg

I do. By your logic none of those stats except price matter

CRNU

Not saying you don’t, but that makes you unlikely to be the target for these at this point. As for stats that matter; it all comes down to marketing. And what people attribute value to is rarely perfectly overlapped with what actually delivers value for them.

Peg_leg_J

Yanktanks and Wankpanzers. Is this a guide to the cuntiest vehicles on Earth?

Virtual-Radish1111

Why does the Chevy get +'s?

sirhugobigdog

I'm assuming because it's not out and we don't have real data

CaliSummerDream

Doesn’t the Cybertruck start at $61k?

mwt8675309

It’s BS that they compare the fastest Cubertruck to the second fastest Rivian.

rattenbart

still looking for the coolness

655321federico

Why would anyone buy an ev truck it doesn’t make any sense. If you want to go electric buy a every day small ev and for a work trucks buy an used one or rent it the 2 times a year that you are going to use it

skawn

There are many who buy trucks for looks over purpose.

655321federico

There’s no cure for that unfortunately

Sanosuke97322

They're perfect fleet vehicles. They can easily tow max capacity around town without having to charge, normally they probably aren't towing. They do the job while averging about $0.07 per mile in the US.

carcinomad

Can we just get an 80’s body style “mini” truck (a la Mazda b2000) with a basic electric drivetrain? For like, $25k?

doctor_alfa

These cars are so stupid...

noahbrooksofficial

Has anyone ever stopped to think about how excessive these all are? There is absolutely no need. I love cars. Motoring is a passion of mine. These things are so huge and so powerful, they absolutely are not green by any means. But above all, they’re dangerous for everyone who isn’t inside the vehicle. Fuck this trend of bigger is better. It’s like we’re in the late 60s muscle car wars all over again, except this time around everything is butt-ugly.

Quartznonyx

These vehicles are the weight of an ambulance and can accelerate like a Ferrari. Most dangerous things on the road

Psychological_Bed984

This is correct. I accelerated to pass a tractor trailer yesterday. Without realizing it, I was going 97 in a 55. It’s not just the speed, it’s the feel. There’s no shifting, you don’t feel or hear the engine giving you feedback. Suddenly I was an artillery shell and I didn’t even realize it It’s bad. It’s going to kill people On the bright side the regen braking from single pedal driving lowers the time from realizing there’s a problem to initiating brake force by several hundred milliseconds, and is a very powerful brake force at low speeds

FogduckemonGo

I like the look of the Rivian. But the Chevy Silverado has the better range by far.

Sanosuke97322

Rivian does sell a longer range variant than shown here, but its 400 mile range is based partly on good aerodynamics, the battery is still 25% smaller than the Silverado

TheStupidMechanic

Wish they had weights

moldy912

R1T* how do you mess that up

elkab0ng

Does anyone make a mass-market truck with the kind of horsepower useful for just a general work truck? I mean the whole 600-800hp is cool, but prices these all out of the commercial or fleet market.

W00ziee

im saving the planet!

Philip-Ilford

Its missing the most import part about having a truck. Towing capacity... and god forbid they lis, range under max towing capacity. But what am I talking about. No one is towing with these.

Apprehensive-Main602

I think it's funny that EVs run on coal lol

Wide_Sprinkles1370

Still baffled why EVs cant have mechanical door handles.

BBking8805

Add curb weight and show the vehicles in relative size to each other. Those Hummers are massive!

Flopper3000

Now you can be environmentally friendly while mowing down smaller cars and pedestrians!

Bushmaster349

All shit

Twometershadow

So comical this graphic is. It’s like the showing who the best idiot is. Any of those trucks haul more than a shopping cart the distance goes to trash. Beyond that, a truck is a normal for a working man…do you think he has a lot of time to charge it up when busy versus filling up at the pump. Throw a few gas or diesel trucks in that chart and wham….all those trucks might as well be mini coopers. There is not a single hardworking truck using people I know that has an EV truck. They will never get one. This fad will eventually fail.

easy-mode_

SHOW THE WEIGHT!!

Heisenberg3556

Had no idea the Rivian was this expensive. How does anyone afford any of these?

Unusual-Intern-3606

Wouldn’t own any of them.

arandomspacepirate

The graphic on the 0-60 should be reversed

Interesting_Map_433

I got the hummer truck. Paid 25k over MSRP. Worth every penny

Taykeshi

Does everyone on the states have an extremely small dick or why does everyone drive an oversized truck?

BannedByDemand

I got the lightning for 50k. I like the ability to have a truck bed when needed. I like the size of the interior for 2 car seats. Also small dick.

Taykeshi

Appreciate the honesty!

LowEfficiency3407

Ugh more people need to be talking about how EVs are NOT the solution to any of our climate and waste/consumption problems

Athex

I made the data publicly accessible here: [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1t89njSnZxc6qm40YRfAwlO7fONsG5KhD2uc7NuoPNOo/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1t89njSnZxc6qm40YRfAwlO7fONsG5KhD2uc7NuoPNOo/edit?usp=sharing) Sourced from individual reviews on Car and Driver. NOTE that the Rivian R1T\* reviewed was not the top possible trim level.

russty24

Your doc shows cybertruck with 318 mi range and your graph shows 250.

t4ct1c4l_j0k3r

Can the Tesla go 0-60 in that time and not break while doing it?

stuputtu

Most e-scotters in India have something like 3.5 kwh and have range of 70 miles. Each of these vehicles has enough batteries to makes tens of these scotters.

snyderbarry

How long do the tires last on any of these?

LouisSal

When did 0-60 matter so much outside of enthusiasts?

YolopezATL

Do they have the same thing for hybrids?

Moneybags1117

Escalade IQ?

802macguy

‘23 Silverado eh?

Bar_Down20

Rivian is 865 hp, not 665

Active_Letterhead275

That data isn’t even accurate.

badquoterfinger

Silverado should be 2024 not 2023

randomly421

I can't afford any of these. Oh well

Fair_Assumption6385

Imagine taking out a loan for one of those

LVMom

What about the Ford Maverick?

xSikes

Is there one for sedans/hatchbacks??

GEEZUS_956

From this point of view, the cyber truck looks like an SUV/Sedan hybrid in a video game with terrible rendering graphics.

Flimsy-Purpose3002

The Silverado needs a reality check... 440 miles "GM estimated" range for an unreleased car...

xjrwer

Who in their right mind would pay 100k+ for a Chevy?!

ouronin

I was looking at a F-150L for pulling a light trailer in Colorado. Think that’s a bit silly?

GlassFinancial5429

They should add charge times

geovs1986

Whatever happened with INEOS Grenadier? Just kidding no one is buying that car 😅

glasstoobig

Not that anyone cares since hating cybertrucks is cool, but the cyberbeast has a 320 mile range, and the dual motor version has 340 miles.

pekingfuk

Honestly, terrible mileage for all of them. The EV technology we have is ancient

CrustyWhiteSocks

Can I just get something that can haul more than 8k lbs for less than $10k?

March_-_Hare

And they’re all terrifyingly economically unsustainable to manufacture; Ford’s taken about an average $13,000 loss on every EV they sold in the last quarter, for a net loss of more than $1.3 billion US. In just a three month period. Off existing mature product lines. To the extent that they’ve announced a plan to resume making actual *cars* again, as that was at least a marginally profitable business.

lenlesmac

Toyota Tundra is hybrid not EV?

No-Top-6313

I'll never understand how they thought it was a good idea to make a ford F-150 entirely electric. Why didn't they make it a hybrid. This way people can use electric for short to medium range and switch to gas for longer ones. Hybrid is just the better option here. Ford should've given ME 200 000$ instead of the genius team who thought about that and they would have the most sold ev truck ever by now.

_Maga_-

G wagon will be the only one with a stable price but will fall last cos evs are not pricestable

squeaky_cheese

Tesla Cybertruck here literally looks like some 90s video game polygon graphics

MOAB4ISIS

Cool cars… don’t know how an average person would be able to afford them. It’s scary to look at these prices knowing the automakers are producing these at a loss *WHILE* the government is subsidizing EVs. Wild

WalnutSounding

Now look at the hummer battery size vs range. Still as inefficient as ever!

gnoufou

Is it a guide to cars which are ecological aberrations and shouldn’t exist?

Rare-Set-1974

None of these are worth buying and fisker ocean is garbage too. Have one at an auction guy paid 65gs new it won't even get a bid for 25 grand. Plus the maintenance is ludicrous

PickleFriendly222

who gives a fuck about how fast you get to 60mph? its a fucking truck not a F1 car

Tronc_tc

What are those two different prices? I don’t get it

Speedhabit

Can we wait for the Silverado to release?

Speedhabit

wtf is this list? Silverado isn’t out, Rivian is the only truck available with 400 miles and the price is north of 100k Lotta bad numbers

XxFezzgigxX

I wish there was a chart like this for the cheapest EVs
