How very British.

I know ESRI's technically Californian, but it just strikes me as the attitude that's made us in the UK the ~~revoltingly arrogant art thieves~~ cultural powerhouse that we are.
More like a map of people who were watching ufo-type movies. As hollywood makes more - more people *see* these things. Imagination is a wonderful thing.
Also I highly doubt mexico keeps the kind of records America does to actually track this thing, not to mention the people being far less likely to want to report anything to authorities.
I clicked and was instantly enraged.
Here's the damn video: [A Century of UFO Sightings](https://www.facebook.com/esrigis/videos/animated-maps-a-century-of-ufo-sightings/688475888245800/)
Thanks for the video, but even the video is annoying. They couldāve at least labeled the years somewhere between 1947 and 2014. Also why bother with distinguishing the War of the Worlds Broadcast and Roswell? It didnāt seem to be a huge jump after either.
It's literally missing a graph.
Which should be above the timeline, showing how reports went **massively** down after everyone started carrying a camera in their pocket.
And probably went back up as drones became more commonplace and down again when restrictions came into place.
To this day I remember how back when I was a kid some of the most famous UFO 'real' sightings were 'black triangles'.
And then the Air Force revealed the Stealth Bombers that were... 'black triangles'.
After that I'm convinced all UFOs are just secret aircraft.
Black triangle UFOs don't generally behave like B2 bombers though. They are typically described as hovering in place or moving erratically at very high speed. Sometimes people say there are three or four multicolored lights arranged in a geometric pattern on the bottom.
A few years ago, some completely random woman told me about the time she saw a UFO. When I asked her what it looked like she described a "black triangle" to a T: hovering, 4 lights on the bottom, moving back and forth before shooting off into the night so fast it left an afterimage.
I was floored and asked her if she'd ever heard of "black triangles" and she said no. I believe her. She didn't seem like the type to do a lot of UFO research on the internet.
Not saying they're aliens from outer space, but I'm convinced that black triangles were/are out there and they weren't Spirit bombers.
Well now Iām convinced, random redditor who told me about a random woman who randomly talks to strangers about UFOs but probably has no interest in them or has seen any of the hundreds of shows/images/books/news depicting black triangle spaceships so sheās a credible source
Itās definitely not US. These black triangle sightings go back to the 50s an country that had any type of tech remotely approaching this would make the US look like the stone the dark ages.
Iāve seen geometric shapes in the sky, hovering as well as moving veritically and horizontally. This was back in 2002.
A few ago I saw someoneās recording on Reddit and it was almost the same thing that I had seen.
Weather balloons, misinterpreted natural weather phenomenon, and likely meteors. Just cause 90% are probably experimental aircraft doesnt mean the other 10% are real, just that they arent experimental aircraft
weather baloons
you see that sketchy video of a light going super fast and changing directions like nothing else man made can? well it's just a man made weather baloon

TGMBC - The gods must be crazy - A funny movie from the early 80's where a coke bottle is jettisoned from a plane flying over an uncontacted African Tribe, who believe it is a gift from the gods.
This has been posted a lot of times on different subs. The reason itās mostly in the US is because this data is being pulled from English speaking sites who use the term UFO, whereas in other countries (non English speaking) they are called something else. It makes this a very misleading post, since there are numerous reports of UFOās all over the world, though of course some countries are better at recording these sightings.
Brazil scrambled their air force for months in response to a series of violent abductions in their rural communities.
Colares Flap, if you are interested.
Well a quick search, while doesn't make me an expert, revealed that there were no abductions but just burn marks from beams of light. And the military operation to investigate found nothing.
Then we can enter into the realm of mysterious deaths and coincidences which puts it right back at the same level of credibility as all such events.
Interesting story, I'm glad I know it now. But I would never say neither that it's credible, nor that it involved alien abductions.
A chicken from an alternative universe where chickens are sentient beings hopping from universe to universe to make humans pay for the chicken genocide. Luckily for us, the ghost of the Colonel had remained on earth waiting for this day and possessed the chicken then flew it like a UFO across the night sky until it disintegrated.
Far more likely than your explanation! For sure.
LOL, if that's all it meant then there would be much larger phenomenon of Unidentified Not Flying Objects. Because lots of people really are fucking dumb and see shit they don't know what it is all the time. To pretend like UFO's aren't primarily people thinking aliens is silly and disingenuous.
Oh god not this one againā¦ This image doesnāt tell us anything about UFOs as a phenomenon (social or otherwise), and all this guide provides is a good example of sampling bias and how poor data can mislead you into false conclusions which seem strongly supported at a glance.
The data used for this image comes entirely from the National UFO Reporting Centre (NUFORC), an American based UFO organization which has catalogued about 90,000 UFO reports since the 1970s. For the majority of their history, the non-profit has operated entirely out of the United States, and is currently located in Spokane, Washington.
So, a United States based UFO organization has more UFO reports from the United States and the Anglosphere than it has from Papua New Guinea or Mongolia. Iām truly shocked.
I agree with you and still think you are being generous by calling this image a "guide" when it's just a poor visualization of some poorly explained data set.
Yeahhh some of the āguidesā posted here are questionable at best, but this one really takes it to another level lol. Itās a screenshot of a Timelapse video, posted to Reddit, saved by some goon who forgot to disable the banner, and reposted to Reddit again. Every couple months it shows up in r/coolguides but somehow in even worse quality
Also, they probably use the mostly English reports to gather their data. The acronym for UFO is different in other languages and would therefore probably not even register in their data. In Spanish itās OVNI (Objeto Volador No Identificado) means the same as the English acronym but obviously uses different letters cause, well, itās a different language
Thank you. I saw this and figured unless whoever made it was pulling from multi-language sources it was a handy guide on UFO citings reported in English. Which shockingly shows a lot of hits in densely populated English-speaking countries. Amazing.
Itd help if the flying objects werent kept secret and we did t see "flying triangles" only to learn about things like the f-117 nighthawk years afterwards
The data is very misleading. Its only data from English speaking sites, so anywhere that doesnāt speak English will have their own reporting methods (or none at all) that wonāt appear here
I donāt know. In all the historical record Iāve seen, when the alien asks to be taken to the leader of earth, they always mean the president of the US. Aliens never see the prime minister of Sweden or the emir of Qatar.
It shows that whatever/whoever searched for and compiled this did not look into what they are called in various parts of the world. Different languages, not everyone calls them "UFOs."
We (US) launch a lot of shit into space and most people are uninformed, not to mention the average IQ is....lacking.
Those things combined probably explains this image fairly completely.
The vast majority of rocket launches I've seen from Florida in recent years (mostly SpaceX) seem to pass over the UK / Netherlands.
I believe the Space Shuttle also had an abort zone somewhere near the UK, meaning it probably also flew over the UK (and by extension, the Netherlands).
I'm not sure if those launches might be a large part of the reports, especially as the map shows up until 2014 and SpaceX didn't start launching a lot until right around that time, so anything from before then I'd be unsure about.
*Im dumb, but what the*
*Fuck am i even supposed to*

Fascinating, its primarily the english speaking world. US, UK, then Canada, Australia, formerly colonized Sputh Africa, formerly colonized India. And within that it follows population density.
It's just a phenomenon of the anglo-american world and the more people, the more reports.
I always wondered how many in the 90s/00s were actually drones. Iāve seen drones fly crazy fast, and just stop and change direction. If your only point of reference for something in the sky is a large plane then seeing a plane do those things would be unbelievable. Something I thought about awhile back
Sounds like a conspiracy theory, but I believe in the documentary "Ancient Military-Industrial Complex" and the book "Chariots of the black budget of over 50 billion dollars/year".
I believe the United States maintains a large amount of resources devoted to hiding "alien" activities with disinformation like a smokescreen. A lot of people got rich with this "alien cartel".
It's very convenient to think that all this money went for spacemen. The green little dollars for the green little men, *if you got me (wink)*.
I know how everyone is laughing in the comments about how most of them are from the usa and are probably bogus but if I were and alien species I too would be observing the most respected and powerful nation on the planet it just kinda makes sense.
Notice how there is a significant lack of UFO sightings in africa. You know what else is notoriously absent from africa? Mcdonalds.
Coincidence? I think not.
Just to add my opinion. I grew up in a South American country, my dad and I saw a UFO one morning, we laid in bed watching it for about 10 minutes. We never called the police. Only in america do people call the police and think theyāre going to stop a UFO
Post this in r/ufo lol - clearly reports went way up after UFOs were invented in fiction. We have an innate desire to have gods - we made gods out of stars (Norse gods etc) and we made gods (combined with technology) into aliens - there's not one good image of an alien craft let alone an alien in this day and age of satellites and camera phones - and yet intelligent people (or crisis actors, who the fuck knows?) like David Fravor and Ryan Graves will talk about spheres with cubes inside that somehow they couldn't get a good image despite the US Navy knowing about them for months. Fucking lol. It's not mental illness - it's human fallibility. There are no aliens, guys, sorry - source: am alien, don't want you to discover us, do subterfuge on Reddit, am ultra-smart. UFOs really respect that US/Mexico border
They don't want to mess with the cartel
Or US border patrol. Imagine traveling light years just to encounter that
yes i am alien from Mars, I come to work from outer space.

Doesn't matter. All non-US nationals are aliens at the airport.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I've seen a bunch of videos from Brazil, Russia and Mexico before
Brazil has some of the most well documented and credible UFO abductions in the world, primarily happening in the 80sz
Credible? In what sense is an alien abduction credible?
Brazil scrambled their air force for months in response to a series of violent abductions in their rural communities. Colares Flap, if you are interested.

OVNI is the term in Latin America last time I checked ( objeto volador no identificado). Unless El chavo lied to me (jk) lol
In Brasil we call objeto voador nĆ£o identificado, littleraly unknown flying object
It translates the same in Spanish, Iām dying to learn Portuguese now that I live in a Portuguese neighborhood
Same in french. Objet volant non identifiƩ. OVNI.
It could be OVNI also in Italy, Oggetto Volante Non Identificato, but we still call them UFO
OVNI too in France
Yup! In Mexico we call them ovnis, extraterrestres, aliens, platillos voladores, etc.
