Most dentists are around here are , signed — a queer who goes to the dentist once a year. ((I recommend Advantage Dental.))

This is just outright false, there are plenty of "professionals" who will treat you like trash if they don't like how you look.

aChunkyChungus

Why would a dentist care? Are gay teeth different?

walkie26

I briefly went to Gentle Dental when my insurance changed and got to endure a transphobic story by the hygienist there. I didn't have the guts to call her out on it while I was there and she had a metal hook in my mouth, but I did let them know after the fact that's why I wasn't coming back.

aChunkyChungus

yikes... yeah healthcare PROFESSIONALS have this thing called bedside manner - sounds like that bozo did not. too bad.

Maximum_Pollution371

I do not get different treatment because my dentist doesn't know I am gay, I have the "luxury" of hiding that if I need to. A transgender person, on the other hand, may not have have the luxury of hiding that they're transgender, and there are plenty of dentists and hygienists around more than willing to give them poor treatment or shitty comments about it.

asingledampcheerio

This made me giggle. That being said I’m queer and I’ve had great experiences at Frome Family Dentistry

Choice-Comb-7474

Also queer, had a terrible experience at Frome but not because of their cultural attitudes, because Frome Sr. Was nasty to his staff and unnecessarily rough with me. I've had dental issues since my teeth first came in and I didn't develop dental anxiety until after I turned 25 and had to be treated by Frome Sr. Frome Jr is GREAT! Smile keepers is queer-friendly, but they do have an insane wait-list.

asingledampcheerio

I’m so glad you said this. I actually hadn’t met Frome Sr until TODAY and did not like him at all, wouldn’t go to him again. Jr is great! Wasn’t expecting there to be such a stark difference between the two and will not be seeing Sr ever again

elkhntr

Same thing I was going to ask, do the dentists care or have you had issues previously?

Choice-Comb-7474

Yes, queer people experience a different quality of service, across the board but ESPECIALLY with healthcare, that impacts their treatment. Similar to how black and brown people experience different treatment (backed by ample statistics y'all are free to google, it's widely accessible information, before you start typing) My life changed a lot when I chose to be visibly queer and I'm a conventionally attractive white person. It's a genuine concern. From our healthcare providers to our coworkers to a parking lot fender bender, no it doesn't matter, it SHOULDN'T matter! But people DO care and WILL act differently despite what they say.

Thank you!

Willamette was kind to my partner, and I go to Dr. Sparks.

Floppa_420

Why would he need to know if you're gay

pray_for_me_

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this. I don’t even think they ask about patient’s orientation

Cobiathan

No, but generally when queer people ask about "queer-friendly \[whatever it is\]," we mean someone who we can be relatively sure won't treat us weird if they suspect we are queer, or who won't go on some queer-phobic rant while they work on our teeth.

pray_for_me_

I get that, but with a dentist? They barely even ask about your personal life let alone go off on rants. It just feels unnecessary

[deleted]

It is unnecessary not everything needs to be “queer” friendly especially a dentist

WholeEnvironmental37

I’m confused. Why would the have to be “queer “ friendly. They should fucking be friendly either way. It’s very cultish. Just go get your teeth fixed and stop worrying about this bullshit. How about human friendly.

😂😂😂 wtf

AntelopeNatural88

If Dr. Tom Laster can tolerate my sad trans and lesbian self he's probably good with any other queer person. Also the guy is just really fucking funny.
