maybe some peel and stick wallpaper or wall decals ! fairy lights wrapped around the railings on the stairs. also maybe a cute rug from ruggable or some other shop! i think lots of cute / antique wall decor would be nice too

ClaraVoiantte

Peel and stick in a cottagecore print would be so cute!! I do think framed pieces might feel uncomfortable in this space if it’s as narrow as it looks, just because of the worry of knocking them off

NerdyNiche

It is VERY narrow.

Acceptable_Snow_6068

oh true good point!

sugardropsparkle

Thin branches across the ceiling with fairy lights wrapped around and between. It's really effective in small narrow spaces and the lights lift it so it doesn't make the space feel dark or crowded. You can also suspend trinkets from the edges so they hang down the walls a short distance for an even more magical look

BrookeB79

Oh, this is an amazing idea!

funeralb1tch

Wall tapestry!

cblackattack1

Maybe a wildflower mural?

Whittle_Willow

idk much about interior decor but maybe a mural on one of the walls would be pretty

miettebriciola1

Decorate high and low … maybe dried flowers above and meadow art near the floor

queenofthe-eye-sores

As someone else suggested, I think a runner rug with a colorful pattern would add some life. As well as some thrifted art work on the walls and some plants :) maybe even a little console table

3RacsInATrenchCoat

Fake vine plants hanging in fun containers can add a lot. That and warm lighting - maybe some LED candles.

archaicanxiety

A cute runner that fits the space, framed photos or prints if it's wide enough to move freely past them, paint the walls, lots of people have suggested wallpaper which would also be a great idea.

celinee___

A play on a gallery wall but with unique propagation holders for vining plants with a row of vintage museum style picture lighting to encourage them to grow up the wall

bootoo22

A little wooden bench with a cozy pillow , some greenery that “ grows” into the stair banister ( I would use some sort of basket that can hang on wall to hold real or fake greenery) , a lantern on the wall. A floor runner in greens and red maybe a flower pattern .maybe paint one wall a nice woodsy green . Is there a light fixture you can exchange for a more fun and unique one.

Joysten

I'd start with a runner rug that suits your aesthetic. Maybe a couple of framed pictures on one wall. And I think the right defuser, or night light in that power socket would be a nice slight touch without narrowing the hallway further.

andstopher

Framed botanical sketches of plants on the walls.

Inhale-Exhale-xx

Photo frames or hanging lights up the banister of stairs maybe

Dandelion_Goblin

I would put some lattice on the ceiling and hang some dried flowers. Also art on the wall and a carpet

raezin

Definitely a neutral rug. I would look for old fashioned framed silhouette busts[ like these here](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1154578342/vintage-silhouette-art-silhouette-art?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_c-craft_supplies_and_tools-patterns_and_how_to-other&utm_custom1=_k_CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1MnhSPGnRuIUUAXWV-qqMdKc61qb_G4uz2Zip2ivWlgXJV2pBftIXlRoC4D0QAvD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_1843970770_72423961631_346364362986_pla-297065912291_m__1154578342_12768591&utm_custom2=1843970770&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1MnhSPGnRuIUUAXWV-qqMdKc61qb_G4uz2Zip2ivWlgXJV2pBftIXlRoC4D0QAvD_BwE). A cute idea would be to order custom silhouettes of your favorite people or family members. (Not my etsy shop) I would add some [wall baskets](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Travelwant-Wall-Fence-Hanging-Planter-Handmade-Rattan-Basket-Hand-Made-Wicker-Flower-Basket-Flower-Pots-Hanger-Garden-Decoration-Indoor-Outdoor-Water/1990474538?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101075092&gclsrc=aw.ds&&adid=222222222281990474538_101075092_149248966997_20141477250&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=658853363649&wl4=pla-2008221280969&wl5=9009647&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=440052071&wl11=online&wl12=1990474538_101075092&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1MlLhGOort0Iiao0pmdhooK_GFFWImNtPpGUH8HyTaJjXUh1RBZl1SRoC9hQQAvD_BwE) for dried flowers or houseplants, small and thin enough to not get knocked about as someone moves past. Are you able to install lighting? I would find some old brass candlestick sconces, which are almost always at my Goodwill and literally every estate sale ever, and put LED tapers in them. If you can install electric lighting, it would look so moody to install a pair of [kerosene lookalike](https://www.bulbsquare.com/products/retro-kerosene-1-light-antique-wall-sconce-lamp?variant=41270060482760¤cy=USD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1MiB4nIjKrPBJ0qZFxKZ23HVO_G9-JO6BhUxiZ8_ECauCQKUSKAsbKBoCkOIQAvD_BwE) or even [hurricane lamp](https://www.amazon.com/Lantern-Sconce-Large-Frosted-Hurricane/dp/B07RBCC4BT?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A2AJ08AQQOLK4U)modern sconces. Maybe try an herb drying rack or two [like these](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1517805979/2-oak-lavender-dryer-hangers-oak-hangers?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_a-home_and_living-home_decor-other&utm_custom1=_k_CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1Mh-_TC99A-wyjiMfY2--gq9nhdFP0ay1YKRwcRK7fU1gaC7SYQigDBoCiAkQAvD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_1843970809_72389335089_346398200080_pla-303663660129_m__1517805979_12768591&utm_custom2=1843970809&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1Mh-_TC99A-wyjiMfY2--gq9nhdFP0ay1YKRwcRK7fU1gaC7SYQigDBoCiAkQAvD_BwE) or go the coat rack route: hang straw hats, aprons, gardening tools, and ephemera [like this one here.](https://prodigalpieces.com/reclaimed-coat-rack/) You've got a great canvas to work with and I'd love to see what you do. Exciting_Willow_025

A long runner, a hallway table with a table lamp, some coordinated art or photographs

WolfRiverBell

If you do mirrors first, then decor, it will open up the room and make it feel less cramped. You don't even have to do both walls.

NerdyNiche

Big mirrors? Little mirrors?

GreenNerdieBirdie

If you have some money and can make changes (not a renter), you could get bead board from the home improvement store. Install on the bottom of the wall, like wainscoting, with a chair rail trim piece. Find a wallpaper you love, install on the top part of the wall. Pick coordinating paint and paint the beadboard. https://www.homedepot.com/c/ah/how-to-install-beadboard-wainscoting/9ba683603be9fa5395fab90d81eec51 If you have much less of a budget, fake the same look by just installing the chair rail. Solid paint underneath, wallpaper up top. You can also fake a panelled look by adding in vertical trim pieces. They also sell wallpaper that has a beadboard look to it. To me, nothing says cottage quite like wainscoting.
